Here we are, a brand squeaky new thread Smile

Happy Shredding / Ripping / BFBM'ing / 6W6P'ing / Killing Hmm / NMTZ'ing

Level 2 Ripped just done.
Erm. Bit harder than level 1, eh? Phew!
Some moves I managed really well, others OK and others just killed me! I was dripping wet through afterwards.
I do prefer the 6 x 30sec strength intervals to the shred 4x ones, makes it easier to bear knowing the pain is almost over Grin

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 25/07/2012 23:27

Thanks for the support Smile Finally got back to it today - decided to do shred L1 to ease back in and was glad I did because it was so hard to start with! Felt fabulous by circuit 3 and managed to Natalie through most of it. Level 2 tomorrow, or maybe Killer if I have a bit more time.

cassgate · 26/07/2012 09:24

OK. Newbie here. Have been lurking in the background for a while now and it was from here that I found out about Jillian Michaels. Have been shreding for about a month and am a bit disappointed by the fact that my measurements have pretty much stayed the same. I have lost 7lbs. The only measurement that has decreased is my waist down from 83cm to 77cm. My hips, thighs and bust have all stayed the same so now I look a bit, well out of proportion. I have more defination in my arms but they were never a problem anyway. Not quite sure what to do now. Do I carry on or combine with something else. I always do 15 minutes on the running machine after shred. Any advise appreciated.

SpringGoddess · 26/07/2012 10:29

Thanks lizzie for the review on ripped level 2. I did shred level one this morning, day 4 and I really worked hard - was dripping with sweat at the end and it felt good, still not managing the push ups or side lunges very well...will do ripped level 1 on holiday. Bootcamp in the park tomorrow and then a run on Sunday if the hangover from a party on saturday doesn't get me first.

Cass I'm quite curvy and my weight loss journey has seen my waist hip ratio go from 10inches difference to 12 inches and then back down to 10 inches. I lose weight most easily from my waist and then my hips follow suit and lastly my thighs join the party in a very sluggish half hearted way.

It's frustrating but often our body shape doesn't change the way we want it, I'm still the same shape, just 2-3 sizes smaller. I don't think it's a shred thing.

gingercat12 · 26/07/2012 13:03

notyummy That is exactly the part of L2 6W6P I used to feel sick at.

I have completely forgotten that you only ever come out of plank in L3 Shred when it is absolutely necessary. Hard work. Much easier though since I can hold my abs Grin

cassgate I am not sure my bodyshape changed. Or my theory that on me it works dwonwards. My arms and boobs are in a better shape, and lost some fat from the top of my stomach - that it why my new swimsuit feels big-, but I am not pleased with my jellybelly and thighs. They shrank a little bit, but I have a long way to go.

Greedygirl Just enjoy yourself a little bit.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 26/07/2012 16:00

ginger my weightloss goes from top and bottom, so I get slimmer ankles and calves, and slimmer arms and shoulders. The parts I am really bothered about, tops of thighs/arse/belly/hips, remain stubbornly as they were. It is the snowdrift thing again, I try to keep telling myself that!

I have felt so much better today for having Shredded last night. Really looking forward to this evenings efforts!

threestepsforward · 26/07/2012 18:11

I wish I could have slimmer calves and ankles but unfortunately they ain't ever going to change!! (are they?!) All my family (mum, sister etc.) have beautiful calves and ankles apart from me! I don't know what happened when I was handed my leg genes Hmm

How's everyone doing in this beautiful weather?

I found a dusty pair of trainers in the cupboard I'd forgotten I'd bought (from the charity shop) and used them for my turbofire 30 session today. Was much better, even though I'm punching randomly at the air for much of it still! Found wearing the trainers really hard though, like I was wearing dinner plates on my feet or something! Suitably sweaty at the end which I was pleased about Smile

CHST I think I'm getting used to it, yay! Also skim-watched the 55 disc (which is tomorrow's treat) and saw there's a lot of similar stuff so will hopefully get up to speed before too long...

Thread has been brilliantly busy! Great work everyone, keep it up, woop woop yeah Grin

L2 shred done - I am dripping!

Wondering about when to go up to L3, but it being all plank puts me off because I find it incredibly hard and it gives me back pain. What could I graduate to instead?

threestepsforward · 26/07/2012 20:11

Well done Ali! It was hot today wasn't it? Am sure 90% of my sweating was down to the weather rather than my performance!

L3 Shred does have a lot of plank stuff. Does it help your back at all if you go on all fours? If that doesn't niggle your back, you could substitute all-fours for quite a lot of the plank stuff I think.

OP posts:
SpringGoddess · 26/07/2012 20:41

The heat is a killer - I have fans blowing on me from all sides while I shred. The sweat feels good though - makes me feel like I've achieved something.

I think the next time I do the shred I'm going to get dd to video me and then ill watch it back to assess how well I'm doing the moves, I suspect not as well as I could, hence why jillians DVDs give me backache. At Bootcamp the Instructor is always assessing my form and making sure i do the exercises properly.

Greedygirl · 26/07/2012 22:09

Hi everyone. Not so hot here Envy.

Ginger I will! I just felt a bit bloated after living on canteen food for two days. Plus fish and chips!

Threesteps - I am like you, I like to exercise barefoot but it is murder on the old knees in some of the DVDs. When i do wear trainers I find it really hard going. Maybe we need some indoor/yoga type training shoes?!

Cass I think that weight loss is brilliant. Ikwym about not always losing weight in proportion. I am relatively happy with my shoulders and bust now but I still have a big arse and thighs. Has anyone out there had success with Killer? I think the snow drift analogy is one that really makes sense for me. I am pear shaped so I will probably always be slightly out of proportion.

Well I did 6W6P Level 1 tonight and I really enjoyed it again. Weird as I didn't get on with it at all to begin with. Going to do BFBM tomorrow to push myself a bit. Feel like I am flailing around a bit at the moment, doing a bit of this and a bit of that. But better than nothing I suppose! Keep up the good work everyone.

Jimjamatron · 27/07/2012 00:01

Hello! I am new and have just finished my first 30DS workout. I am pretty hot and sweaty now but didn't find it totally awful (I need bigger weights). I am not fit in any way but am on a mission to get fitter and shed some baby weight.

Apologies- many questions follow...

For those of you who have seen good results from the 30DS, what kind of diet are you following/have you made changes to your diet as well as doing the DVD? Also are you doing extra exercise on top of the shred? For total beginners what weight should I use? I only have 1kgs in the house but can nip out to the shops tomorrow and get some heavier ones...just not sure how heavy.

Its a bit silly but I am looking forward to tomorrow's workout already - I have roped my husband in to doing the DVD with me to make it a bit more fun. He considers himself quite fit but he was really sweating by the end of it and struggled with the side lunges (I was secretly loving that after he had been all 'how hard can a girl's workout DVD be???)

I am feeling really motivated by this thread already!

Lizzylou · 27/07/2012 09:13

Morning
2nd day of Level 2 Ripped done last night. Was sweating soo much but definitely enjoyed it more, I prefer it when I know what is coming up next. Though that move where you are stood up one legged doing rows is sooo hard. I nearly fell through the TV!
Was pleased because 2 people said I was looking "trim" yesterday and I am back in a dress I couldn't get in 2 weeks ago.
Ali, I am definitely losing weight on shoulders/arms/chest, my bum and thighs are always the last to shift.
Jim, I am logging foods and exercise on Myfitnesspal, trying not to eat too many carbs and lots of veg/salad. The Shred is fab, after a few weeks you'll be well into it.

threestepsforward · 27/07/2012 09:54

Morning all!

Greedygirl, that's a really good idea! There are all sorts of really lightweight running/walking shoes about at the moment, I remember seeing them in Cotswolds. Perhaps not the ultimate best in terms of cushioning and support, but a happy compromise maybe? Good luck with BFBM today. I know what you mean about flailing around, I like a project (Ripped or Shred or Turbofire), helps keep me motivated.

Lizzy L3 Shred is always risky with me. When I do the cardio boxing with weights I'm always expecting a weight to fly out of my hand and through the TV screen!

Welcome Jimjam Smile Re the weights, I'd look at getting a set of weights so you can chop and change as you like (maybe between 2kg and 4kg?). There will be some exercises (those side lunges with arm raises) which will be harder to do with heavier weights but for others I think you'll quickly find you want to move up and go heavier. Happy Shredding!

A 55 minute Turbofire workout for me today, yikes!

My poor knees are suffering with the lunging.......I have always had dodgy knees but they have been ok lately. I do loads of exercise anyway with spinning and poling but my knee is twinging now which must be down to the shred...has anyone persevered and the twinges gone?

Greedygirl · 27/07/2012 18:28

Yes Betty, my knees ached sometimes after level 2 and 3 of shred, especially when I started running. But they are fine now and I am doing 6W6P which has quite a lot of lunging still.

Did 6W6P level 2 today, was a lovely shade if purple by the end! Definitely feel that my core strength has improved since starting JM DVDs. I could only do plank moves on my hands and knees to begin with. Just about mastered the T stand kicks today! Happy weekend everyone x

gingercat12 · 27/07/2012 19:14

I use shoes very similar to children's gym shoes, I do not know what they are called. They are very lightweight. I can't use proper trainers, that is just too much.

3monkeys · 27/07/2012 20:12

Can anyone reassure me that I will start to lose weight? been doing 30 day shred for 16 days, did level 3 for the first time tonight. Haven't lost a pound!! Although I do feel fitter. So want to lose my belly for holiday in less than 3 weeks :(

Greedygirl · 28/07/2012 09:03

3Monkeys - did you take any measurements or do your clothes feel any looser? Weight is only one measurement and not a great gauge of how toned you are. I noticed a difference in the last ten days of Shred, I would still like to lose some more weight but I feel much more confident in a swimming costume because I know I looked more toned, keep at it Smile.

Slightly hungover today so thinking today might be a rest day! The thought if JM with this headache is not good.

3monkeys · 28/07/2012 10:10

Thanks Greedy. Will measure today I think. Tried on the trousers I want to get in for holidays this morning, stil a bit tight so that should motivate me to carry on. I am impatient!! Going to iron this morning and then do Jillian before DS2's birthday party

threestepsforward · 28/07/2012 10:10

Morning all Smile

3monkeys I think I mentioned to greedygirl a while back that the positive changes only really happened for me after about 20 days (I think!). Wasn't that around the time you noticed changes too greedygirl? So...don't despair, stick with it and things will suddenly start happening!

Well I did my 55 mins of turbofire yesterday (I've clocked Basheera now CHST!).

It was fun and fast but there are still bits that are so fast and complicated foot-wise that I just stopped and was muttering 'ridiculous' under my breath! I did really enjoy it though and felt knackered afterwards. I don't think I'd be invited to join the on-screen class any time soon! I must look hilarious to an outside observer!

Hope everyone has a great day!

TheInvisiblePoster · 28/07/2012 13:52

Can I join you all? I ordered the 30 day shred from Amazon yesterday and could do with some motivation when it arrivesGrin

gingercat12 · 28/07/2012 18:26

Welcome Invisible Hope you'll enjoy it / or at least find it useful.

Threesteps I look ridiculous in all the work-outs. How can Basheerah and co look so graceful?!

I put some weight on this week thanks to my period, should not really weigh in every week. I did not pig out, put the effort in (no rest this week), so not bothered. While in plank I felt my abs being rock hard. Very pleased.

gingercat12 · 28/07/2012 18:32

I checked out Bob Harper on Fitness tv, or whatever it is called. He is "well fit" as youngsters would say. Everybody on his dvds look focus-grouped, and productionwise it looks a lot more professional than JM's dvds. I will try his dvds later on, but and I like Jillian and it works, and I will always be grateful for it.
