Here we are, a brand squeaky new thread Smile

Happy Shredding / Ripping / BFBM'ing / 6W6P'ing / Killing Hmm / NMTZ'ing

CHST · 19/07/2012 17:22

found this talking about p90x, insanity and turbo for anyone who is interested

Overreactionoftheweek · 19/07/2012 17:31

I'm moving up to l2 on 30DS tomorrow and am very nervous after reading what a big leap it is Confused I'll give it a go and maybe just move back down if I really can't handle it

gypsyfloss · 19/07/2012 18:25

You'll be fine Overreaction. Just give it time to get used to; personally I think not having to start with full on press ups is a good start!

Happy Jillianing everyone. I'm off to do L1 6w6p shortly. I introduced DD to the yoga one last night. It went down better than previous attempts although it's amazing how watching someone else wobble on one foot adds to your own wobbliness :)

threestepsforward · 19/07/2012 18:56

Hang on in there Schrodinger!!

Common side effects of the first days of Shred are feeling like you're going to dye, inability to walk downstairs and sit on the loo normally and aches a plenty! These are all completely normal Grin
Push through it and by day 3 or 4 you will be through them, I promise!

CHST thanks so much for posting that link. I watched that and a couple more and am definitely thinking Turbofire is the way to go for me. I have one more question though! They seem to talk a lot about the 'dance' element of turbofire. Now I am not a dancer in any shape or form apart from bee gees dancing when drunk . With that in mind, would this be an okay DVD for me do you think?

I'd usually hit 'buy' and see what happens but these are so expensive I want to make completely sure I don't get the wrong one!

I'm really grateful for your advice, thanks so much Smile

OP posts:
threestepsforward · 19/07/2012 18:57

Going to 'dye'??? (and I'm a proofreader by day Blush)

OP posts:
CHST · 19/07/2012 19:02

threesteps The workouts have "breakdown" workouts with them so you can practice the moves. I previewed the workouts before hand but just went with it. Obviously at first it took a while but there aren't that many moves to learn and once you learn it, it comes really easily, I would say it was more kickboxing inspired as there are punches and kicks. It is really really fun though, I love it and Chalene is so lovely and motivating.

threestepsforward · 19/07/2012 20:54

CHST I just ordered it!

You are right, I'm just going to get stuck in and at that price, I will be dancing whenever she wants Grin

If it arrives in time my plan is to start next week. Goodie! Haven't really had a 'project' since going all the way through Ripped so I'm very excited Smile

OP posts:
CHST · 19/07/2012 21:29

yay you are going to love it! PS you will spot Basheerah in it!!!

CHST · 20/07/2012 08:12

morning all! Haven't worked out yet but did a weekly weigh in and have lost again? I am down now to 8 stone 1lbs. I can't believe I have lost 18 lbs (1st 4) since January. I find that when I up my cardio, I lose weight. When is enough enough though? I was happy at first to get under 9st and I think I am at a great weight but am scared to go into maintenance mode incase I put it back on. Exercising 5/6 days a week has become normal for me.
Threesteps I lost the most weight doing turbofire by the way!

chicklitwriter · 20/07/2012 08:27

CHST That's a fantastic achievement, well done!

threestepsforward · 20/07/2012 10:40

Morning all Smile

Wow, CHST, that is really fantastic! Were you dieting too? I'm assuming you'd like to keep on with the exercise so maybe you could relax the diet a bit for maintaining? If you kept an eye on your weight and it crept up then you'd start getting an idea of how to balance diet/exercise to stay the same. I'm not sure how maintaining actually works, I guess the main thing is that weight gain would be surely very slow and give you enough time to nip it in the bud? Don't lose too much more though will you, you might fade away!

You've done really amazing stuff! As has everyone on here who has lost weight and seen measurements go down...

I will look out for Basheera in Turbofire (they get around don't they?!). I'm stupidly excited now I've done the deed and ordered it!

Today and over the weekend I'll be doing some Shred, some Ripped and maybe even a BFBM.

And it looks like the sun is coming out Smile
Have a great day everyone...

L3 shred day 3. Still madly difficult but I am getting there!

Seriously impressive results on this thread, very motivating.

Have made a random discovery this morning that if I epilate my legs after shredding I don't feel a thing! Think my body is just in total meltdown and just doesn't notice the pain. Grin

notyummy · 20/07/2012 15:47

Keep it up all- well done on some great results. CHST- I think I have found my happy weight, which is anywhere between 10-10 1/2 stone. That may sound a lot but I am 5ft 10, and I can stay at this weight and eat pretty much whatever I like as long as I exercise. Dress size 10/BMI 21 and body fat around 21%. For me, this is all maintainable and achieve able. If I go above this, it is usually because I have had a really good social life for a few weeks and eaten out/at friends a lot and been drinking. Couple of days low carbing gets me back to normal. Do you think you could maintain thus weight without thinking about what you eat? (by that I don't mean stuffing yourself with pizza and chips all the time- I just mean not always thinking about food choices and consciously restricting yourself.) If you can, the maybe it's the right weight. If not, then perhaps not.

Day 3 of Insanity today. Not that long- 40 minutes inc quite a bit of stretching and water breaks. Pretty tough though. I can keep up with them in most things, but just cannot do the press ups at the same pace as them!

JudysDreamHorse · 20/07/2012 20:01

Hello. Can I join/stop lurking and ask a question? I am on day 17 of the 30DS (woo hoo) but am still finding L2 really tough. To be fair after D14 I stopped for a week and a half as I had visitors staying and then got a bad cold. From circuit 2 I have to pause the dvd and drink water every so often and am still doing to easy version of most of the exercises. Is it worth moving onto L3 or should I stick with L2 for more than 10 days?
Also, can someone explain how to do the plank twists? I find them fairly easy so figure I must be doing them wrong Confused. I think I generally have bad form when I go into a plank position. Thanks ( have been lurking in awe of you ladies up until now).

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 20/07/2012 22:03

Have Shredded every day this week except Monday, so think I'm on day 5 of level 2 now. Have to say that now I've got used to level 2 I really enjoy it. I'm definitely toning up - my abs area feels firmer and I can see changes in my arms. They were getting a bit flabby but I can actually see some muscle definition now Smile.

I'm combining it with My Fitness Pal to ensure I'm not overeating/eating less crap. It was interesting to read a few posts back that Shred burns around 187 calories as I've been estimating it at 100-115 for logging on MFP, depending on the level I do. It might be less for me though as I'm quite petite so expect I'd burn off less, so might start logging it as 150 cals. Do you think that sounds about right?

threestepsforward · 20/07/2012 22:28

Softkitty I reckon 150 cals sounds about right ...depressingly! It feels like it should be an awful lot more. Great news on the toning Smile

Welcome Judys!

Tricky one. If it were me I'd stay on L2 for a bit longer, maybe until you can do the harder versions of some of the exercises? But, if you're going mad with boredom, go up to L3 for a bit of light relief! I think a fair few people, me included, think L3 is easier than L2 so you could go up for a bit for a break Grin L2 is I think by far the hardest level so don't be disheartened!

Re the plank twists, I didn't feel like they were doing anything for ages. You have to really twist and try and push your knee up towards the armpit if that makes sense? You should feel it in the sides of your abs. You could also try doing the twist but on all fours rather than in plank position. I did this for a bit and definitely felt it more in the abs.

Keep going, you're doing great!

L3 Shred for me today, with a mixture of weights. Amazon e-mailed to say that my TURBOFIRE has been dispatched, yay!

Notyummy I love hearing how you're doing with Insanity...I'm a bit hesitant about the dance element in Turbofire but who knows, I may unearth the undiscovered cheerleader in me Grin

Have a good weekend everyone...

All these new fitness packages sound like a day out at Alton Towers!

OP posts:
Happypiglet · 21/07/2012 07:18

I used to log Shred as 'circuit training' not aerobics. And I included the warm up time but not the cool down. But 150 ish sounds about right. I have stopped MFP because I kept eating more rubbish to hit my calories!
Just logging in to say bye for the week. We are off camping and I am leaving electronic devices behind (except my Kindle!) to really focus on the family!
Didn't manage to Jillian yesterday as period hit and I was in agonies of cramp and it was all I could do to pack the enormous amount of stuff my family seems to require on holiday ....
Back to it next Saturday. I will see how much damage a week of cooked breakfasts can do!

CHST · 21/07/2012 07:40

thanks threesteps and notyummy
I haven't been on a diet as such, I used to be a snacker where I would not eat lunch but snack away through the afternoon. I now eat three times a day and have my moments where I snack but usually round the time of month!
I switched white bread, potatoes etc for whole bread, wholewheat pasta, sub regular potatoes for sweet potatoes etc and generally eat smaller portions.
I think I am going to have to up the calories but need to work out how I can do that without eating crap. Think I can probably scale down the exercise a bit but need to try different things I guess to see what works

archfiend that is interesting regarding the epilator!
notyummy so glad you are doing well with insanity! I think you are going to get some great results and I will watch with great interest!
Judy I think a lot of people found level 2 harder than level 3 in shred so to be honest, I think I'd move on to level 3. With the plank twists, the lower you twist, the easier it will be so get your knee as far up near your arm pit as possible.
Softkitty well done on the changes! It is so satisfying to see things change like that and is a real big motivator to stick with it!
threesteps hope your Turbofire comes soon and seriously I wouldn't call it that dancy, you are going to be fine!!! Once you practice a bit, I promise the moves will come second nature!
Happy enjoy your holiday! It feels strangely good to be without technology! When it is there infront of us, we are addicted to it but when it is not, we realise that actually we don't really need it!

JudysDreamHorse · 21/07/2012 20:34

Thanks for the tips. Just did D8 of L2 of the shred. I think I might do L2 for a few extra days and then move onto L3. The plank twists felt a bit more difficult but I think I need to really work on a good starting plank pose. I am planning to start again once I reach the end anyway - I am a bridesmaid in 3 weeks (gulp) and then have my first beach holiday since having DS (who's nearly 20months). I can maybe work up to the more difficult moves 2nd time round.

I really hope I can keep it going long term (maybe with some other Jillian dvds). I really think I have changed shape a bit since starting though I still weigh the same. I have been trying to snack a bit less but haven't been too good. I normally shred just after DS has gone to bed and I think doing it in the evening makes me snack less as I can't eat just before and I feel less like eating crap after. I just managed to close a pair of jeans which were way too small a few months ago and I can definitely see some definition in my abs if I clench my stomach muscles - don't think I've ever had that before! Just wish I could lose the saggy pot belly now....

ILoveLemonCurd · 22/07/2012 09:24

Hello peeps, Jellibelli pointed me in the direction of this thread. I am a big Jillian fan Grin. I do run and cycle but never really worked my core and feel so much better for it. I am doing level 3 of the Shred at the mo, although I haven't done it for a couple of days, bad me. I'll move on to NMTZ and maybe Ripped to keep the interest going!

Right, level 3 here I come....

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 22/07/2012 09:28

I'm struggling with the pot belly too Judys. The only time it went completely was when I had a sickness bug a few weeks ago (not my recommended way to get a flat stomach Hmm) but it was back within a few days of eating normally again.

I had a rest day yesterday but will Shred later on. I've realised that I'm not good at exercising first thing because I have slightly low blood pressure so I need to eat and warm my body up before I exercise, if that makes sense. I sometimes feel a bit lightheaded just getting out of bed, so Shredding first thing is a no-no.

Hope everyone has a lovely Sunday.

notyummy · 22/07/2012 10:28

Well done on the results Judy and welcome Lemoncurd!

I am aching in all sorts of places... Did Insanity on Friday, NMTZ with DH yesterday and a 5 mile run this morning (in the sun!). I think the combination is tough on my body. Next Insanity tomorrow (which I think is going to be even tougher...) and a rest day on Tuesday. Thank goodness. Will finally do measurements today- should have done them on MObday when I started using Insanity but forgot...

gingercat12 · 22/07/2012 11:27

gypsy As promised I have done L2 6W6P. I must admit I always stop in the middle for a sip of water Judy. It is right in front of me, so we only talk about a 20 seconds stop. I have realised I actually missed 6W6P while Shredding (which I still find hard-going).

I also had a weigh-in. I am nowhere near as slim as you all are. I started from 85 kgs (13 st and 4.5 lbs) in January, and am 75 kgs (11 st 11.3lbs) now. Bit of a milestone there Grin. Another stone and a pot belly to go.

gypsyfloss · 22/07/2012 15:11

Argh I wrote a reply which has disappeared... But essentially it said...that's a great weight loss gingercat- you should be proud :)

Yoga this morning but my mind was elsewhere, full of pre holiday chores so I wasn't hugely dynamic. I have spent the day running up and down the stairs so that must make up for it a little bit and I still have the hounds to walk yet .

happy sunny Sunday to all
