Well done everyone!

Meg, could you put DH to good use over the next few days and get him to occupy DCs for 20 mins?

L2 Shred for me today. After long, weirdly exhausting weekend, am doing Ls 1, 2 and 3 and then who knows where Grin

I have checked out Insanity on amazon and then ebay. It's INSANELY expensive!! I'm currently in negotiations with someone who is selling multiple copies at modest prices - I'm checking whether or not the DVDs will work in UK format players...watch this space...

Does anyone know CHST which is the more hardcore between Insanity and the Turbo workout?

I'm definitely coasting and want to jump start the system, but just trying to work out which I'll be more likely to stick to in terms of length and severity!

Everyone is doing great! Keep at it Smile

Venetia ? that is awesome!! What is a crow push up? Sounds nasty!
Notyummy ? Insanity sounds?well, insane! You are going to have minus fat cells soon.

Gingercat12 ? yay, someone else who is doing 6W6P Level 2. I love it but find I am resisting it far more than Shred. I love it when it is over! Go on, do it tomorrow, I am too!

Shrodingers ? sorry about your DS, hope he feels better soon, kids are so inconvenient at times Wink. Let us know how you get on when you get to do it.

It is interesting what you are all saying about weight loss and Shred. I really thought that, going from doing no exercise at all to exercising 5-6 times a week, I would enjoy more obvious weight loss but have really seen more toning rather than weight loss. Still, I am happy with the results!

Been for a 3.5 mile run tonight, with a big hill in the middle, all those lunges and squats have paid off! Feeling suitably knackered. Glass of vino to celebrate!

CHST · 18/07/2012 21:57

threesteps Insanity is more hardcore but I think turbofire would be a great way to work into it. From what I have gathered about insanity, it is longer than turbo. Turbo you have days where you have hiit workouts that are 15, 2o, 25 and 30 mins, some days workouts are longer like 45 or 55, 60 mins. There is a yoga also so it's not hardcore every day. I think with insanity you could probably phone it in a bit, think you really need to push your boundaries or that is the idea? Notyummy I hope you will keep us updated. Turbo is a lot of fun. I really enjoyed it a lot while I was doing it. It really is a fun workout. I wonder if you google Turbofire vs Insanity you might get some opinions from people who have done both?

MegBusset · 18/07/2012 22:14

Yeah I'm definitely feeling and looking more toned, so it's worth it for that alone :)

Greedygirl · 19/07/2012 07:48

6W6P level 2 done! Happy shredding everyone.

chicklitwriter · 19/07/2012 08:20

Threestepsforward I was looking at the Insanity DVD's and the Zumba ones, but they're just too expensive. It's a pity, because they both look great. Guess I'm sticking with Jillian for the foreseeable. Wink

Overreactionoftheweek · 19/07/2012 08:31

world I don't really have time during the week, am already getting up at 6 to do 30DS but could try BFBM on the weekend. Thanks for the tip.

chick sorry but your description made me laugh! The neighbour behind me can see into my living room, I always worry when my top rides up and my belly flops out...lovely image for them first thing in the morning Grin

meg will your dh get a lunch break? He could take them out for a quick walk while you do it?

notyummy · 19/07/2012 08:41

Luckily I was given the Insanity discs by a friend, because they are pricey.

It sounds like time wise Insanity isn't that different to Turbofire - there is a range of length of workout from 25/30 up to over an hour (haven't done that one yet!) From the first two I have done I have noticed that the overall time includes a lot more stretching than Jillian (no bad thing, as they are tough work outs so it probably helps.) There is one lower intensity workout a week (gentle cardio and yoga/stretching.) The workouts are tough, and yes you could phone it in - but just like you could with any other DVD (Jillian) etc. The instructor is pretty motivational, albeit not as good as Jillian I think - he reminds me a bit of Billy Blanks. So far, I am impressed, and I particularly like the 'fit test' aspect of it, where you do the fit test every 15 days to see your progress. He gets you to do a minutes each of a series of exercises and see how many you can manage and hopefully you get to see an improvement. That, and measuring, would be great motivators I think.

worldgonecrazy · 19/07/2012 09:02

I looked at Insanity and I think it would be too hard on my knees - there don't seem to be alternative exercises available so I may just get the fit test of YouTube. Don't you also need to increase your calorie intake to ensure that you're getting enough calories in you to do the exercises? I'd probably go too far the other way and eat chocolate cake every day!

BFBM for me again this morning. Pretty feeble in places but I got through it.

I have three days off as I'm working in a physical environment over the weekend, then a couple of days back on it, then I'm off on holiday for a week and will be taking a break over August (my knees need it).

VenetiaLanyon · 19/07/2012 09:58

Penultimate day of L2RI30, and I'll be really glad to see the back of the plank cardio circuit for a whileSmile

Greedy, crow push ups are when you do a normal pushup but bring your knee up towards your head at the same time - I can do it but my form is massively week.

In fact my form is not great for a few things; have only just worked out that if I squat on my heels rather than my toes that it works my muscles more and doesn't hurt my knees as much; think we should have a whip-round to try to get Jillian over here to put us straight on a few things...

Happypiglet · 19/07/2012 10:27

Ooo i would love to meet Jillian sad groupie ...
Venetia I always try to lift my toes off the floor marginally whilst holding static squats and really focus on using my heels in moving ones. That and sticking my mole butt right back!!!
NMTZ today for first time in ages... Enjoyed it one I got past the middle! Although it is strength quite a few of the circuits get me huffing and puffing which is no bad thing! turbo and insanity sound a little too much for me. I haven't yet got to grips with L3 of Killer and I think L3&4 of Ripped could benefit from some further work!
But I will prob go for Extreme Shred and Shed when it is out in early sept.
Some form of Ripped for me tomorrow before packing for my hols in Devon.... 26 degrees is forecast for end next week. Hard to believe as it is currently tipping it down here.

Happypiglet · 19/07/2012 10:28

Ample butt not mole butt....do moles have ample butts? Grin

threestepsforward · 19/07/2012 11:09

Happypiglet I had to swallow my coffee quick before spitting it out when I read 'mole butt' Grin My mind was in overdrive trying to work out exactly what this was and what it must look like!

Venetia I think that's spot on to lean back slightly on your heels when squatting. I'm sure I remember her saying that for the chair squat. It still hurts though in a good muscular way!

Thanks CHST and Notyummy for the Turbo/Insanity info Smile Never heard back from dodgy ebay seller so will take some more time to read about them and have a look at snippets on you-tube. That's a good idea to try and find reviews from someone who has done both...

It's actually sunny here today, I feel a bit like a mole actually, squinting at the sunlight!

Hope everyone has a great day. Reading everyone's progress, we're all doing so well. And the weight loss / measurement reductions are fantastic!

Nolda · 19/07/2012 11:39

Shall we harrass MN HQ to get Jillian on for a web chat? Or has the thread already asked?

Very interesting info re Turbo and Insanity but I fear both would be too much for me.

I'm really struggling with motivation to get Ripped Level 4 done. Was hoping to do 10 days with 1 day off. So far have done 3 days, 2 days off and one wimp out to Level 2 Shred. Please kick my butt (ample but not moley) and make me do it tonight!

jellibelli · 19/07/2012 11:47

Mole butt Grin

Thanks for lovely comments re inch loss, Blush

Felt flakey yesterday so phoned it in with Ripped L1 but I did run today, on a hilly run, so that was less wimpy!

Having said that I would like to give Insanity a whirl but I am too stingy! Notyummy please keep us posted. Are you doing a before and after photo? Go on, you know you'd like to compare and share with us your progress....

chicklitwriter · 19/07/2012 12:03

overreactionoftheweek : Glad I'm not the only person who has the t-shirt riding up problem. I am so self-conscious that I do it in a room with the curtains closed and the door locked. Unfortunately the also has a big bookshelf which wobbles dangerously when I'm doing the jumping jack sections. Hoping I don't have a book related mishap.

Still, did 8 of L1 30DS. I'm planning on doing level one until I can do it all like Natalie before moving on. Hope to get to L3 before the Extreme shred and shed DVD comes out.

I did little exercise before bar walking the dog. Anyone else find the increased activity is having a positive effect on their libido? Tmi, I know. Wink

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 19/07/2012 12:10

Well I made the mistake of doing my Level 2 shred last night in just my workout bra.........mmm, the squat thrusts and plank jacks were interesting as I thought my boobs were trying to escape :)

Was day 2 of L2 for me, a bit better although I still have violent tendancies towards Jillian by circuit 3....will carry on for another week or so and then will gravitate to L3.

Personally I think the diff between L1 and L2 is massive!

notyummy · 19/07/2012 12:13

I'm going to do my measurements tonight Jelli! TBH, I am not sure I will get similar results to people on the website (although some of them are a bit scary and I am not sure I want to look like them Grin. I am doing a 'hybrid' programme because i am not prepared to give up running, which i think is good for my mood (outdoor activity etc.) Insanity is 6 days a week, with one of the workouts being a much lower tempo (recovery workout and stretch.) I am planning not to do this workout, and count my 5 mile average paced run and stretch as this workout. I will do 3/ 4 Insanity workouts, 2 runs and probably a NMTZ for strength, so I will get through all the Insanity workouts, but it will take me slightly longer.

notyummy · 19/07/2012 12:16

Betty - most people find a big difference between the two - and slightly less of a jump to l3....although using that imagery, there is a lot of jumping in L3.

threestepsforward · 19/07/2012 13:29

Be careful people! All this talk of book-related injury, runaway boobs, furry mole butts...JM'ing should come with a warning!

Notyummy, yes! I looked at the website and some of the before and after pics are frankly a bit scary! (particularly some of the women). I'm not sure I'd want to look like that. If anyone has done L2 Ripped (I think?), the abs are like the girl who stands in for that level, I forget her name, which are too defined for me. Someone on here said they look like they have been drawn on with a pen! Having said that, it is amazing that that kind of transformation is possible if you put the time and effort in.

I think I'm leaning towards turbofire - they are both the same price on Amazon so will have to look at my funds and see if and how I can manage it...

L3 of Shred for me later ...

Betty L1 to L2 Shred is considered the hardest leap in Shred so don't be disheartened. I did L2 last night and thankfully my mum turned up annanounced between the 2 v-raise sections so I had a break!

OP posts:
MegBusset · 19/07/2012 13:46

Shred L2 day er 4? - second with the weights though. V-fly with weights is a killer esp the second lot - everything else is going ok though. DS2 sat and watched Cbeebies while I shredded, only occasionally shouting "What ARE you doing Mummy?!"

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 19/07/2012 14:20

I've done body zone this morning and got 2 hours of pole later on so will have to forgego shred tonight...back on it tomorrow though for sure, dont want Jillian to be missing me too much Wink

I am intrigued to see what she has in store for us on level 3!

gingercat12 · 19/07/2012 14:25

Greedygirl I can only do 6W6P tomorrow, as I only have limited time on a Thursday. Although the excuse for tomorrow is that my DS is graduating from the nursery, so might not have the time. L2 is actually a super exercise routine, and it does work wonders for me. The compliments I got last weekend at a family party were fantastic.

I will have to look into Insanity and Turbofire.

MegBusset I feel for you. At my parents I have to exercise in front of my Mom and DS. It is great for your confidence though. Also Jillianing has my periods much lighter and less painful, so it is worth it. I suppose my body can only cope with so much pain after a Jillian-session.

SchrodingersMew · 19/07/2012 14:44

Just done lvl1 of 30DS, God, I feel like I am dying!

Greedygirl · 19/07/2012 14:52

Hi everyone

shrodinger well done!! It gets easier!

Just popping on quickly to let anyone with Sky know that on Fitness TV channel (never knew there was such a thing!) JM's Killer is on this Sat at 10 and Ripped in 30 is on about 5 on the same day. I have set the tape to record it! Only Level 1 but good for a taster.

I managed to hurt my back this morning. Pesky sideways obliques raise things. Going to alternate level 1 and level 2 from now on. Agree that level 1 6w seems to target abs more.

Ginger - enjoy your ds's graduation!
