How many of us are left from the original 84 BTW?

And how much weight have we collectively lost in the last seven weeks??!

vnmum · 08/06/2012 10:02

puffy I have read mark sissons primal blueprint book and I am sure if the IF had any impact on cortisol he would not recommend it, as he does mention living with stress is a bad idea due to cortisol release. He says that if your body is keto adapted then IF won't be a problem as you will just go into ketosis on your fasting days. I am sure there was mention in his book about adrenal fatigue too. If you want to borrow it PM me Smile.

well things are looking good for a milestone at WI so far (as my twitter friends might already know) but I am not jinxing myself by mentioning my actual weight on here till monday. Just got to keep DH on the straight and narrow over the weekend so he doesn't tempt me off track like he tried to do last night (had a curry with cauli rice but DH was telling me to have a naan as it was easier and less washing up Shock, naughty DH, I didn't have any naan though [virtuos emoticon])

Jacaqueen · 08/06/2012 11:19

I am one of the original 84.

This is the longest I have stuck to any plan for years.

I think I have lost 22lbs in the last seven weeks.

A massive thankyou to everyone who posts on this thread and especially BIWI for starting it all in the first place.

BIWItheBold · 08/06/2012 11:41
Thanks

I'm so glad that you've been able to stick with it Grin - but I think that's what makes this such a good way to eat - it's actually something that is sustainable in the long term, and much more so than trying to count calories or avoid fat.

My rate of loss has slowed right down, but actually I don't mind too much - I'm so much 'in the zone'! The scales showed 10.0 dead this morning, so I've avoided putting any on when in Rome (I was a bit up before I went), despite the amount of Prosecco I managed to put away! And I ate yummy food and didn't really feel deprived - I certainly wasn't choosing a compromise option. Yes, the pasta and pizza looked/smelled delicious, but my choices were equally delicious.

Jac - you are a shining example of how this can work for people, and I'm delighted that you have seen such a loss in such a short period of time!

DoUntoOtters · 08/06/2012 12:19

I woke up this morning to my third period in five weeks, and the second day of a thumping headache which has settled behind my eyes. Anyone know if this could be connected to this WOE or is something else going on?

WillieWaggledagger · 08/06/2012 12:22

wow jaq bravo!

and biwi - as you said yourself the average on hol is +7lb (I know you were only away a few days but still...). and Italian food is so varied beyond pizza and pasta. what did you do about breakfast? IME southern european breakfasts can sometimes be limited to pastries - did you have a better selection? we self-catered in Prague a couple of months ago

i had a MAJOR craving at the weekend when we went to a pub and dp had the best-looking plate of battered fish and hand-cut chips i have ever seen, but my chicken, bacon and avocado salad soon distracted me

FiddleDeFat · 08/06/2012 13:22

smokinaces There are 29 of us still on the spreadsheet who started Bootcamp on 16 April, and 16 new joiners since. Between us all (including folks who have dropped out) we have lost 391lbs which is very nearly 28 stone!

I don't think we are doing too badly. Grin

teaandthorazine · 08/06/2012 13:56

I'm very much still here, even if things have gone a bit wonky over the last week. Thegood news is it doesn't appear to have affected weightless too badly!

Never thought I was an emotional eater but it appears I may be! It's raining, TOTM and what's more a supposedly good friend appears to have stopped talking to me because I didn't go to her Jubilee street party Hmm. And I just want a hot chocate and a plate of brownies, really. Who cares if I'm fat if I've got no mates anyway?! (slightly OTT but ykwim!)

PostBellumBugsy · 08/06/2012 14:39

Dounto, there is something about this WOE that can disturb hormones. I have a theory that when you lose fat quickly, you release oestrogen that is stored in the fat & this messes with your cycles. This is only a theory from a bit of research that I did, when it happened to me. It could be utter bollox!

Last time I low-carbed I was on the pill & in the end I had to come off the pill because the WOE was messing so badly with the cycles. I'm not on the pill anymore & I've found that my periods have become completely regular since I started low-carbing again after Christmas & I've completely stopped getting the horrible hormonal acne spots on my jaw.

Don't know if that helps at all.

slowlyburningcalories · 08/06/2012 14:47

I have fallen off the path of righteousness in terms of not drinking enough water, a few too many choc ices and a tub of Ben & Jerrys. In my defence I had to have all the stitch's removed from my operation site - which was horrendously painful and a few have become stuck in the scabs which means I have to go back on Monday. It seems that having a toddler drop kick you on the operation site causes it to have complications Hmm

I am also planning a major research event, with thee weeks left to go I have less than 1% of the participants needed, another huge headache!

I have not however eaten sweets, pasta, bread, potatoes or got mad on snacking!

Dounto - how much water are you drinking? Thats my main cause of headaches

PostBellumBugsy · 08/06/2012 14:58

Fellow losers - food does not actually make anything better!!!!! A brownie won't cure PMT and nor will a tub of Ben & Jerry's make stitches less painful. Don't kid yourselves that these are good excuses. (PBB fixes the thread with a paddington stare.)

I wonder why we tend to turn to food for comfort.? I know I do it myself. I'm a bit bored or blue & for some reason I think something sweet is what I want / need. The only thing I can think of is that sugar stimulates similar receptors in the brain to drugs, so perhaps we are looking to fire up some kind of feeling of pleasure. The thing is that like drugs (& I've indulged in a few of those in my youth too!), is that the pleasure is so momentary and nothing changes.

slowlyburningcalories · 08/06/2012 15:17

The cold tub of icecream against affected area did in fact make me much much happier! And I know food doesn't fix everything but I like icecream :)

Why do we also turn to alcohol?

WillieWaggledagger · 08/06/2012 15:23

PBB i have been thinking about my response to situations in terms of food not just for myself but for other people too recently. e.g. if dp has had a bad day at work i have an urge to do something like make a cake as a treat to cheer him up, which although it's nice thing to do (and would cheer him up) it seems to be associating food with comfort and love so it must be problematic? (well it is at the moment because the only person eating cake in our house is him so he would eat the lot!)

BIWItheBold · 08/06/2012 15:36

Do I need to get my big stick out again?

NigellasGuest · 08/06/2012 15:42

I woke up feeling sick this morning, went back to sleep and didn't wake til 12.15! Unheard of for me. Don't feel so bad now, but I didn't eat til 2pm when I had lunch. Does this count as unintentional fasting and could it be a good thing or a bad thing? Confused

Talking of responses to situations in terms of food, I always have a relex desire for "something sweet" after eating a meal, even though I'm full. I wonder how to knock that one on the head.....

Thegoddessblossom · 08/06/2012 19:00

Today I have made:

a sausage casserole for DH and I tonight
a huge shepherds pie with potato and a smaller one for me with swede top, a pear and blackberry crumble, and 24 carrot cake mufffins with cream cheese icing (first 12 I used old brown sugar and they are spotted with dark bits, second 12 mixture was wetter so they look like they are about to fall apart any minute now they are iced but fuck it I'm not making any more) for tea at my dad's tomorrow night.

Then sausage, beans and courgettes with gravy followed by banana bread with banana custard for the DC's tea. I have spent the entire day in the kitchen (apart from the trip to Tescos and the mile I swam this morning), and for someone that doesn't even bloody cook I feel quite proud!

[Collapses on sofa with glass of red and some macadamia nuts]

LittleFrieda · 08/06/2012 19:55

DoUntoOtters That sounds like the perimenopause.

NigellasGuest · 08/06/2012 19:58

godess congratulations that sounds fantastic, hope everyone loves it! I'm sure they will! Wine

TinTinsSexySister · 08/06/2012 20:28

Just been looking at the veg carb count (to check the swede I am about to eat is OK) when I noticed how high the carb coins for cabbage is - nearly as bad as carrot.

Surely that can't be right? I thought green leafy things were good on the WOE? What's the explanation behind it, anyone know?

Thanks Confused

Thegoddessblossom · 08/06/2012 20:52

Tin tin I am surprised about alot of veg carb counts - swede for example. I thought it would be up there with a potato or parsnip as a root veg.... I eat loads of cabbage whoops...

TinTinsSexySister · 08/06/2012 21:21

Exactly Goddess. I suddenly had a panic that the swede I was cooking would be bad because it's so "rooty" & sweet but that's fine.

Yet cabbage, which I've been eating a fair bit of is high. Spinach is low - surely they are quite similar? Double Confused

MNP · 08/06/2012 21:39

I was an original.

Weight loss has been slowwww considering I have stones to lose to :(

Have had dogy tum all day so only one meal but over 3L of water.

heartstart · 08/06/2012 21:42

Hi this is what I have eaten today and according to MFP it's only 1200 calories the % fat protein card is ok. should I eat some more?

B total and flax - in a rush and needed to eat quick before meds
L tuna mayo salad
D lamb chops roast aubergine, Brussels and runners, Tzatziki

2 coffee with double cream

MmeLindor. · 08/06/2012 23:27

slowly
I think an infected wound site would cause me to reach for ice cream too.

I do wonder why it is, that we have this reaction, to "make things better" by eating something good.

Maybe I should try and train myself to regard other things as treats or I am trying to think of a word that conveys the meaning of the German word "trostpflaster" an elastoplast that makes it all better.

I need to find something that is a trostpflaster which doesn't involve chocolate or buttered toast.

We had stir fry tonight, and while I was cooking I suddenly thought that I hadn't looked up the bean sprouts. I hope they are not too high carb.

Jacaqueen · 09/06/2012 07:47

I went out for a posh lunch yeterday. I had liver and onions, I know that doesn't sound posh but it was amazing. I only had a little onion and a taste of potato. The rest of the veg was low carb. I did have pudding, 2 little 'taster' pots of heaven. One was a choc orange concoction and the other a mango affair.
