The only thing I could think of to rhyme with 'six' for a catchy thread title was 'ketostix'. But as I don't advocate those, I was stuck!

By now, hopefully you're in the sway of things. Weight loss each week may be less spectacular, but should be reasonably consistent if you stick to the knitting Smile

You may also be finding that it's not happening for you consistently. It is an odd thing - and I have no idea if it's unique to low carbing - but it's not uncommon to go for a couple of weeks without losing, and then for the scales to suddenly drop. However, don't be downhearted and whatever you do, don't use this as an excuse to drop off the wagon!

It's also a very good reason why you should take your measurements as well as weighing, and a very good idea to keep a food/drink/snack diary, so make sure that you're not allowing carb creep.

So. Keep on keeping on. Remember the water, and don't forget to make sure you're keeping the fat levels up.

Here's to next week!

Sharon - don't do it to yourself! You definitely need to find a way to cook just one meal that all of you can eat.

So back to Bootcamp for me to try and get this weight to start shifting again.

Yesterday:

B - 2 boiled eggs
L - 2 pork steaks, fried in coconut oil
D - Chicken breast fillets, marinated in olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and curry powder, fried Halloumi in lemon and coriander dressing, roasted Tenderstem broccoli with shallots and chilli flakes, braised fennel in butter and salad with vinaigrette

2 cups of coffee with milk (trying to keep this to 2 a day maximum)
3 litres of water

Biwi I know. The trouble is with timings for work we only eat together fri, sat and sun. Children have school lunches so more of a light tea for them

jan2011 · 22/05/2012 06:56

yesterday id
yoghurt &flaxseed bf
egg & cottage cheese snack
tuna wuth peppers tomatoes for lunch
cream cheese and sugar snap peas for snack
salmon and courgettes mushrooms peppers in olive oil for dinner
2 lattes skimmed milk too & an apple

this sound ok apart from the friut

MsRinky · 22/05/2012 08:04

The lattes could easily have 20g carbs in them, depending on how big they are. Cottage cheese is much carbier than proper cheese. Cream cheese and yoghurt on top seems like dairy overkill.

Peppers and tomatoes are really fruit, so much carbier than leaves or green veg. Peas are legumes.

So sorry, yes, along with the apple that would be way too many carbs for me. And it looks like your brain is still in low fat mode, with the cottage cheese and skim milk.

BIWItheBold · 22/05/2012 08:12

Sorry jan - I agree with MsRinky - way too much dairy and your veg is all a bit carby! There are loads of carbs in milk, so a latte is really OTT for Bootcamp.

Good to see you've introduced the olive oil, but if you're introducing fat and you're eating high carbs, your weight will go up rather than down.

Look to eat a bit more salad and green veg rather than tomatoes and peppers.

Make your lattes with Lacto free full cream milk or double cream watered down. Skimmed milk has loads of carbs.

BIWItheBold · 22/05/2012 09:20

Info re milk - carbs per 100ml:

Milk, Semi Skimmed
5
Milk, Skimmed
5
Milk, Whole
4.8

OP posts:
Jacaqueen · 22/05/2012 09:29

Lacto free semi skm 2.8g

Lacto free whole 2.7g

double cream 1.6g

BIWItheBold · 22/05/2012 09:48

Thanks, Jac!

I'm still having two cups of tea per day, it's vv weak and with vv little milk.

I could start the day with half a lemon's juice squeezed into a cup of hot water. How many carbs in half a lemon?

LittleFrieda · 22/05/2012 10:11

Being a very old lady compared with lots of you, I must say, this WOE has massively improved my peri-menopausal/menopausal symptoms.

BIWItheBold · 22/05/2012 10:14

Not as old as me, LF! And yes, low carb definitely helps to deal with the hot flushes.

Yesterday in the hair salon they asked me if I'd like a drink and I asked them if I could have a coffee with a tiny tiny amount of milk. They brought me a great big capuccino with chocolate sprinkles. Hmm

jan2011 · 22/05/2012 10:31

thank you everyone for your advice - obviously im way off with the diary! i am still getting used to all this, and for the minute i may keep to the changes ive already made which has been to cut out most carbs and add protein. ill leave adding fat for awhile, stick with this and then think about making more changes when im comfortable. too much change at once for me backfires. but i didn't realise i was so out - so thanks for helping me see whats going on! :)

NotMostPeople · 22/05/2012 10:37

Unsweetened soya milk 0.2g per 100ml

I went for a curry last night but was very good and had no rice or naan just ordered a salad as a side dish, which was nicer than it sounds.

I made loads of mistakes in the beginning eating things that I thought were low in carbs when they weren't. Now I'm adding all my food onto Food Focus, which is upsetting it as it's clearly designed for low fat/high carb but it does show me the nutritional values of everything I'm eating. Yesterday I had blueberries and greek yoghurt for breakfast and it made me realise just how carby the blueberries were, so I'll reserve them as a treat now.

BettyBathroom · 22/05/2012 10:52

I have swapped my hot drinks for green tea - thought I'd hate it but it's less bitter than black tea and tastes pretty ok, it also contains caffeine - so you still get a wee pick me up! And has been linked to fat burning - jury is out on that one...but hey it's worth a shot!

Still have one mug of coffee in the morning with milk though but that feels like a good compromise.

NigellasGuest · 22/05/2012 10:59

I must admit I do have on average 3 cups of coffee a day, with unwatered down double cream. I have cut out milk completely. I'm a bit of a dairy freak though and have been known to indulge in Total full fat yogurt with double cream Shock but I've still lost 3lb in my first week and my gardening trousers are falling down!

I have upped my veg intake and feel so full all the time. If I get what feels like a sugar low in the afternoons/evenings when I 'm tearing around London, I find that guzzling water sorts it out (as opposed to grabbing the nearest chocolate bar as before).

That's the end of my musings!

aussiegonewrong · 22/05/2012 10:59

Hi
I have been reading this with interest and would like to join you although I am down under so will have to start reading labels more thoroughly. So if something is under 3g per 100 g it is classed as low carb. Is there a total to aim for the day? I am very addicted to having a daily coffee at work from the coffee shop would soy be better f than regular milk , sorry if that is an ignorant question but I am learning. I joined WW online last week but it so hard counting points and all the food so boring where as what you are all eating sounds much more exciting and I am keen to try it

NigellasGuest · 22/05/2012 11:00

ps. I'm doing the Shred every morning as I believe resistance training works really well with this WOE. It's only 20 minutes first thing before I even get dressed.

Hepsibaaah · 22/05/2012 11:03

Black tea with lemon has become my fav. Work coffee is so vile tbh I dont miss it, although I do have a coffee with milk a and a glug of cream at home after supper as it seems to help with the sugar cravings (WHY do I still have these? It's like needing a ciggie)
food-wise: yesterday
B - scrambled egg
L - salad
S - lo-carb cottage pie with celeriac mash (love that stuff)

today so far is egg (again...)

Hepsibaaah · 22/05/2012 11:08

Hi aussie, welcome :)
I asked the same question re carbs, iirc the aim is for less than 4carb in any one food item, no overall total for the day, and you should be looking at the total number of carbs, not that which specifies sugars.
Have to say I've done WW, SL, cambridge blah blah, this by far and away works for me!

BIWItheBold · 22/05/2012 11:11

G'day and welcome, aussiegonewrong!

Have a read of the Bootcamp rules

Follow these and you will be fine. No need to count carbs (unless, if it's all new to you, you want an idea of what you're eating), and no daily amount. Just make sure that most of your veg/salad comes from the 3g and under part of the list.

Coffee with milk isn't brilliant (from the carb perspective - milk can become quite carby quite quickly), but is better if you can manage it with cream. Personally I can't bear cream in my coffee, so I still drink coffee with milk - but try and restrict it to 2 cups per day, max.

Have a look out for the Bootcamp recipe thread as well, where there are some fab recipes.

Good luck!

BIWI I've updated my "cry for help" thread and it looks like there may be a new recruit...

BIWItheBold · 22/05/2012 11:22

Yes I saw that - do you want to snaffle her or shall I? Grin
