Bootcamp Week 4 - Come Whine With Me

BIWItheBold · 07/05/2012 12:00

Welcome everyone!

Now we're into the difficult weeks - those of us who are actually in week 4. You may have found that your weight loss slowed down last week or even - as for me - has gone back up again.

Don't panic!

This is very common. Keep on keeping on (my mantra for this WOE) and things will start to happen for you again soon.

Don't think it's all falling apart and 'treat' yourself by cheating. That will only exacerbate things, and you will very definitely be reporting back here with a weight loss or - worse - disappearing altogether, thoroughly disenchanted with yourself and the whole low carb thang.

If you're gaining, or not seeing any weight loss, have a long, hard look at what you were eating last week. Did you relax too much, if you moved to Bootcamp Light? Have you allowed carb creep to happen?

If you're doing as I suggested and keeping a food/drink diary, compare last week with your first week. Why not go back to what you ate/drank in that first week - especially if it was a week when you definitely did see a loss?

And remember, weeks 1 and 2 are weeks where you are primarily losing fluid. From weeks 3 onwards, we are now dealing with the fat - and the going will, naturally, be a lot tougher.

Reasonable, long-term and sustainable weight loss is 1-2lbs per week. I know that doesn't sound a lot, but that's 2-4 packs of lard.

Come and share what's working for you - how are you feeling about this WOE now, now that you're a bit more used to it? What tips can you give to your fellow MN Bootcampers?

What's frustrating you? How can we help to make it better, or work more easily for you?

Hope everyone is ok this morning - sorry to hear about everyone's troubles Sad

I'm almost back to the same as I was last week (Pre-wedding food/drink fest) so am very happy. Another wedding today but no intention of wavering. Still very much in boot-camp mode. I like it.

Currently in coffee shop with decaf coffee for Brekkie after an early start and resisted sweet carby stuff because if I have it now that'll turn the whole day to shit.

Feeling very positive. Smile

BIWItheBold · 12/05/2012 09:27

Thegoddess - presumably you don't have much weight to lose? Weight loss does tail off as you get closer to your goal, and you do have to work a bit harder to get there, I believe.

And if you're drinking wine, eating nuts and chocolate every night, then yes this definitely will be preventing you from reaching your target! Sorry if that's unpalatable ... !

Scales are down a little bit for me, although still up overall. I'm hopeful that they are now going in the right direction. I would really like them to be starting with 9 again any day very soon Grin

Well I was coming on here to have a moan this morning, but reading about the real problems some of you are coping with, I think I will just give myself a good slap instead.

The scales are up by a good few pounds over the last couple of days. No real reason why, but I know that this can happen and you just have to keep the faith and get on with it.

I am going to up the water and stick to a really simple menu over the weekend. If I can get back down to last weeks weight by Monday I shall consider that a victory.

BettyBathroom · 12/05/2012 10:11

TheGoddess I am trying to maintain too - last week my weight increased by 4lbs - I was having huge wobbles about my long term relationship with this way of eating, was considering reducing food intake, reducing my fat intake...

I drink wine too - I love wine and in the long term I don't want to give it up even in pursuit of the body beautiful, it's just a step too far, as is giving up my morning coffee with milk - some things are just too ingrained, too enjoyable...too me!

This week I am back to target and measurements show that I am thinner than I was at target 2 weeks ago - go figure - as the Americans would say. Weight loss is voodoo as far as I'm concerned, there's a lot of science but there's also a massive amount of bullshit, even in the low carb fraternity (and I include you, Dr Briffa!). I've said it before dieting is like a religion - there's often no real proof and lots of blind faith.

My thoughts are as a daily weigher - my stats are recorded and graphed in MFP and I hope to see some sort of monthly cyclical pattern which will give me some comfort that an increase on the scales isn't a cause for panic.

BIWItheBold · 12/05/2012 10:16

How many weeks into this are you, Betty? Have you hit the 3/4/5 week 'hiatus' do you think?

That said, I know from my own charting that I definitely have spells where weight goes up and down without any real overall loss - for no apparent reason. Then it suddenly drops down again to a new low.

It's really tempting when it's yo yoing to start to worry it's not working, and to look for things to do to make it better/weight to drop again - but actually all you need to do is to keep on doing what you're doing. Make sure you haven't allowed carb creep/too many 'treats' - but the weight loss will get going again.

OMG BIWI I actually luff you. I saw an 11 this morning!!! 11.13 to be precise. Grin

Your articulate posts about this WOE have kept me coming back after each slip up and it really is paying off.

4 weeks I have been stuck at 12.3-12.0 and it was so nice to see a change...it may go up again tomorrow, but it has really spurred me on to keep at it.

BIWItheBold · 12/05/2012 10:26

Fantastic - very well done! It's lovely, isn't it, when you see the results of your efforts?

Morning all!

Started the day well, with a protein shake and then black coffee with cream once I got to work. AND I declined the gorgeous pains au chocolat my (skinny after 3 kids) student brought in for me! Feel pretty good even though I've noticed what a change in my body TOTM. brings, am definitely more bloated despite eating well yesterday.

Weird how this WOE seems to put me more 'in touch' with my h

teaandthorazine · 12/05/2012 10:30

Gah, iPhone!!

Was trying to say how this WOE puts me more in touch with my body! I feel the effects of carbs, of dehydration, of TOTM much more now.

Last night was Thai green curry with a pile of kale instead of rice. only 6g of carbs, not bad. And avoided the temptation of late night chocolate too! Fear I may be getting addicted to Lidl Greek yog though - it's even tastier than Total AND higher in fat - win win!

Thegoddessblossom · 12/05/2012 11:53

Tea I am going to get me some of this lidl yog of which you speaketh. Grin

BIWI - yes it's every night. They are my switch off indulgences. And I am not prepared to forego them so I guess I know my own answers and am stating the bleeding obvious! Grin

And no, I don't have weight to lose. So I shall stop moaning. And just enjoy!

Hmm, what to have for lunch....something involving spinach which must get eaten today.....just done a cracking workout at the gym and the sun is shining. Smile

Thegoddessblossom · 12/05/2012 13:19

Lunch: Stir fried in butter courgette, spinach and mushrooms with chorizo.

BettyBathroom · 12/05/2012 13:34

Dh made the Chilli Bake from IPD last night - he had a bit of trouble with the topping but finally produced a respectable looking dish. Topping tasted a bit like cornbread and when very well with the chilli - dcs loved it too!

Just had Onion Bhajis from IPD with homemade coconut chutney....really tasty - a nice change to the normal salad/soup for lunch and dcs gave it the thumbs up - although one was very suspicious of the coconut chutney and stayed well clear!

Can you tell? - I've just bought the IPD cookbook!Grin

LittleFrieda · 12/05/2012 15:29

Received my IPD book the other day and I've read about half of it. I also bought some Ketosis sticks and I'm deep deep purply red. It's nice to have it confirmed. I'm starting to feel really well now. Last night DH and I had rib steak in creamy peppercon sauce with brocolli, Asparugus and a watercress salad and we shared a bottle of NZ Sauvignon - first wine for three weeks. Was lovely.

Well done Kandinskysgirl.

BIWI, I hope you see that 9 again v soon.

Thegoddessblossom · 12/05/2012 16:04

Ok so I now have diohorrea (sp)..... Tmi sorry. Sad

NotMostPeople · 12/05/2012 17:06

Just checking in to strengthen my resolve before going out tonight. I've done lots of exercise this week and whilst I've had the odd glass of wine I'm largely still bootcamping.

BIWItheBold · 12/05/2012 17:06

Deeply purple ketostix mean you're not drinking enough water, LF!

OP posts:
LittleFrieda · 12/05/2012 17:42

BIWI - Boo hiss re deep purple. I did the test just after playing a long and arduous tennis match. So I was probably a bit dehydrated from exercise. Will up the water in any case.

What colour should it be?

LittleFrieda · 12/05/2012 17:43

Thegoddess - sorry about the trots.

BIWItheBold · 12/05/2012 17:46

Agree - you were dehydrated after tennis! They should be a pale pink at the most, if you're drinking enough.

Also, sorry Thegoddess - didn't see your earlier post. Do you think it was something you ate or a bug?

OP posts:
MNP · 12/05/2012 18:43

Tea is the Lidl Greek yog probiotic? I can't do pro yogs so am left with Greek yog from Tesco only...gah.

Sorry re trots TheGoddess

Am having a scales vacation but can defo pull my tummy in further than before so am pleased.

Problem is I am not getting hungry and trying to eat when not hungry increases my reflux Confused

B1: meds and 500ml
B2: shake made with cream
L: pâté with cucumber and yellow pepper
D: tikka masala paste and sour cream marinaded chicken breast which will be fried in butter and served with buttered leek, mushroom and savoy cabbage

Upto 2.5ltr so 1L more to go.

Livelongandprosper · 12/05/2012 19:33

I have been upping the carbs slightly this week and have added a couple of pounds - now weighing in at 9st 3lbs (I am 5ft 1ins.)

I think this is a good weight for me. I still have some extra padding in places but my neck isn't looking as scraggy as it did when I was 2lbs lighter. I'll keep my seal-pup thighs so I can have less of a turtle's neck.

I am still eating a much more varied diet than I did pre-BIWI bootcamp. Lots of salmon, prawns, chicken breast, bacon and a wider variety of veggies than before.

I tried a MIM the other day. At the start of this WOE I thought they would be my salvation - they tasted wonderful. What a shock - the MIM tasted terrible, far too sweet and I really didn't like it. I tried a Twix just as an experiment........ sadly I didn't have the same difficulty scoffing the Twix so will have to just leave them alone!

Thanks to everyone who posts on these threads. Whatever problem I've had with this WOE there has been someone else on here who has shared it.

And last of all a big special thankyou to BIWI for making this bootcamp happen.

Livelongandprosper · 12/05/2012 19:36
NigellasGuest · 12/05/2012 21:14

today:

Breakfast:coffee with cream
2 scrambled eggs with cream

Lunch (while out and about)
2 baby bel cheddar cheeses
1 small pot Total full-fat
Starbucks americano coffee with soya milk
Packet of almonds from Starbucks

Dinner
5 cherry tomatoes, various salad leaves, mayo, tiny bit of Feta cheese, some soya beans (not many) and tinned mackerel - all mixed up.
Followed by Total full-fat with some linseeds in it to add some texture.

Is this all ok?

BIWI thanks for your input on that other thread!

Theeverexpandingrodders · 12/05/2012 21:23

Hi I think I'm going to start this after doing my shopping on Monday , can you drink protein shakes for breakfast as I think I'd struggle to eat much to be honest.
