BIWI's Bootcamp - Week 3 Weigh In - New Starters Welcome!

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 29/04/2012 17:52

So our two weeks of Bootcamp seem to have gone well, with some spectacular losses. Between us I think we have lost enough to make 3 or 4 new MNetters!

It's up to you now how you want to proceed. If you have a lot of weight to lose, or you like the strictness of it, you can carry on with Bootcamp. New joiners should start with Bootcamp anyway.

If you are nearly at your target, or you were finding Bootcamp a bit too restrictive, then you can move to Bootcamp Light - or you could do a hybrid of the two, which is what I am doing - Bootcamp Monday to Thursday and Bootcamp Light Friday to Sunday (which means that you can include alcohol at the weekend!)

As a reminder, or for those who are new, these are the Bootcamp rules:

1.Eat three, proper meals a day
You must eat breakfast. It doesn?t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you?re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn?t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food, and focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs.
Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Maximise your fat intake.
Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food ? this is where your carbs should come from.
But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list (see below). You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

5.Minimal dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited).
If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but only in small amounts.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

7.No alcohol

8.No fruit

9.No nuts/seeds

10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

And this is the allowed list of veg:

Don?t eat any veg unless it?s on this list, and try and focus on eating those that are under 3g carbs per 100g:

I reckon so.

Is it a weekly weigh in from now on? Weigh ins on Mondays?

DoUntoOtters · 01/05/2012 16:24

Thanks GetOrf.

I love the percentages. Is Olivia going to give us all MN key-rings when we get to 10% like they do at Weightwatchers?

If you press a button can you work out what the average percentage is?

Don't do it if it's more than pressing a button.

londonone · 01/05/2012 17:07

Keeporf - Hope you are not feeling too bad, kidneys can be very uncomfortable. Look after yourself.

Joined the gym last week and just back from my first swim. Not too bad and stopped before I started hating the gym on my first visit!

B: Fry up with egg, bacon. mushrooms and half tomato,
S: 3 mini peperami and 3 mini babybel
L: 2 slices smoked salmon and spoon of cream cheese
D: Lasagne using aubergine instead of pasta and with a ricotta/cream/egg mix to replace the bechamel. Will report back.

Think I may be sufferinga little from carb creep! 30gms of carbs in a small carton of passata! Still it is between four.

Struggling a little because although I don't miss bread at all I am really missing baking and am really tempted to make the almond bread/cake just to see what it is like. But then I will just eat it.

Anyone able to give me some inspiration for bootcamp friendly dishes that are dairy free as I suspect I have too much dairy.

Off to Spain for the weekend with friends so will no doubt be tempted, will have to eat a lot of iberico ham and not too many churros.

I don't know about the rest of you but I really am thinking about this as a way of life rather than a diet and with regards to weekend away I am very much thinking I will eat sensibly but not deprive myself and that I will simply carry on. Previously I would have been madly dieting before the weekend then feeling guilty all weekend and then thinking it's not worth carrying on with the diet after the weekend? Bit rambly I know but does that ring a bell with anyone else?

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 01/05/2012 17:50

GetOrf - you forgot me?! Shock

Clearly I need to DO A BIT MORE SHOUTING Grin

Londonone - I too am off to Spain for the weekend Grin

Made the IPD moussaka tonight BLOODY LOVELY. Kids moaned about it, next time I won't share!

And Getorf, thanks again Smile

Off to catch up on this thread now.

londonone · 01/05/2012 18:16

Maybe I'll spot you ohforfoxsake, we'll be the people coming back through customs armed with giant hams! (not with arms like giant hams which is what I used to have Grin )

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 01/05/2012 18:17

78 of us! I'm amazed. I really thought we'd lose more along the way.

londonone - Plenty of dairy-free recipes here

Thanks BIWI that's great Grin. Must be stricter. Think I might print out recipe thread

Thanks GetOrf Thanks

Shock I got the gold star Shock

Well chuffed, feels rather gratifying after sticking to the bootcamp rules so rigidly (whilst every fibre of my being was craving a buttered crumpet)

Well done EVERYONE

LoopingLizards · 01/05/2012 18:37

HI everyone,
I forgot to weigh yesterday but did it this morning instead.
Current weight 124 so that's a total of 6lbs in bootcamp.
I don't get a chance to post much but I do try and catch up with the thread in the evenings. It is the first thing that has really worked as in I don't need to tell everyone I'm on a diet but it is really fantastic knowing everyone here is changing their way of eating and I find it such a great help.
And BIWI... you are truly amazing... thank you!!

Anyway on to bootcamp light for me!

heartstart · 01/05/2012 18:37

Getorf Please can you add me as a starter

NotMostPeople · 01/05/2012 18:46

Well I've realised that I've been getting something very wrong. I have had a couple of latte's thinking that milk was ok so as long as I didn't add my usual sugar it would be fine. Today I had a large one from Costa but decided to google how many carbs and to my horror found out it's 20.5g for a large. Then I googled how many carbs in semi skimmed milk and it's 4.8g per 100ml. The protein shake that's been saving me from another egg breakfast takes 300ml of milk, so I've been going way over the amount of carbs.

I'm so cross with myself.

I can give up the latte's and I'll have to give up the shake unless it taste ok made with water, which I guess I'll have to try.

londonone · 01/05/2012 18:50

try the shake with a little bit of coffee then it's like an iced coffee

smokinaces · 01/05/2012 18:50

I'm still here. Plodding on ok. Gave into a small piece of banana bread yesterday and two strawberries. Did the trick. Having to have coffee each morning (yuck) to get my bowels moving but so far so good. Roll on Monday for weigh in

GreenEyesAndHam · 01/05/2012 18:52

NotMost I make up my protein shake with water, and add a wee slosh of double cream.

Cream is also okay in your tea and coffee if you're that way inclined (blerk) as long as you dont go overboard.

Get0rfMoiLand · 01/05/2012 18:52

I will do the percentage overall and add newbies tomorrow.

Well done everyone. I have just been speaking to dd about this and she is IMPRESSED. Takes a lot to impress a 16 year old without spending any money Grin

teaandthorazine · 01/05/2012 18:54

NMP - I make my protein shake with water and then add a slug of double cream - it's lovely. Milk is just a no-no really - it's waaaaaay too high in carbs (as you've found out!) because of the lactose.

I thought I would never be able to shake the milk habit as I (used to) drink lots of tea and coffee - now it's herbal tea, water and americanos with double cream all the way Grin

I absentmindedly had a sip of ds's milk the other day and had to spit it out - it was so sweet! (shame I didn't spit out today's cake but there we go...)
