So we have survived week one, more or less intact Grin

There has been a lot of cheating along the way - either intentional or accidental - but most people seem to be getting on with it and embracing low carbing. And we have seen some spectacular results already!

As one of the cheaters, I can tell you what you will already have discovered for yourself:

This way of eating (WOE) is an unforgiving one. If you slip up or cheat, it will show up on the scales

I know it's hard. I drank wine on both Friday and Saturday night. But it really is up to you how strict you choose to be - and therefore hopefully you will understand that it is up to you how much weight you are losing.

I realise this sounds patronising. But it's the ultimate truth of this (or any) diet.

Having said all that, I also know that there are some people who are struggling, and for whom weight loss has been very slow.

Just remember, if you have less weight to lose, then your rate of loss will be slower than those who have more to lose. And any loss, even if it's only a pound or so, is still a loss. Visualisation is always helpful for me if I think I've only lost a pound this week. Remember, a pound loss is like two packets of lard! That's a lot of fat.

And if weight loss is slow, or you're not seeing the scales move, have a long look at what you have been eating and drinking, and be really honest with yourself. Have you been following the rules? Have you been allowing carby things into your diet? Have you being drinking enough water? Try keeping a food diary so you can record everything (and I mean everything) that you're eating and drinking, as this can help you identify what might be affecting your progress.

If you still can't work out why it's happening (or not happening!), post what you've been eating and drinking here, and others might be able to help and advise you.

Anyway. Lecture over! Welcome to Week 2. Hopefully you will all see significant loss this week as well. But those of you who have lost loads in week 1 - don't expect to see the same kind of loss in this week - it's inevitable that it will slow down. Remember that sustainable, long term weight loss is around 1-2lbs per week.

And those of you who are struggling, hopefully another strict week will get things going for you! And I also hope that everyone has got through their carb withdrawals by now, and you are all feeling fantastic!

Onwards and downwards ... Grin

Sorry BIWI, rushing all day, but am having bacon with loads of green salad later Smile

Also had gallons of water x

flipflopflap · 23/04/2012 16:29

Welcome heartstart of course you can join, what you've eaten sounds completely fine.

Thanks for the weightloss info spam I feel a bit better about my loss now.

Today looks like:

B: Soya Yogurt, Walnuts. Coffee with Soya milk.
L: Smoked cheese salad with a few butternut squash 'croutons' and mayo.
D: Spinach and Ricotta Gnocchi off recipe thread, with Garlic butter (couldn't get sage) and salad.
S: Maybe olives, probably nothing.

Just trialled a few gnocchi and they are very tasty. Also remembered I had a coffee with a bit of milk in, my friend was round and I forgot to use soya!

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 23/04/2012 16:29

Welcome, heartstart! Sorry I missed you earlier.

Personally I would say avoid the Oopsie rolls - some have reported that they impede weight loss.

Your food is OK, but not enough veg - what are you planning to eat for dinner?

slowlyburning - the idea is to restrict carbs but not to go as low as you can. 20g per day comes from Atkins. We haven't specified a daily limit, but if you only eat veg from the allowed list that I have posted, and you focus on veg that is 3g carbs per 100g, then you will be in the right region.

You must eat 3 meals a day, with veg/salad as a proportion of those meals.

A MiM is a Muffin in a Mug - see recipe on the recipe thread. Again, I'd counsel avoiding these, at least during this bootcamp period.

For two reasons. Like the Ooopsie roll, they can impede weight loss. Also because this two week phase is about helping you to 'break' your sweet tooth.

Welcome heartstart Sounds OK to me!

heartstart · 23/04/2012 16:29

Thanks biwi and hi london lottie

MrsNouveauRichards · 23/04/2012 16:37

Not having a great day. Feel lacking in energy and miserable, I had been feeling great. I want to eat bad things to cheer myself up, but would feel even worse afterwards.

I think it is just hitting home that this isn't going to work at the end of a week when we have run out of most things and would normally resort to freezer surprise - pizza/fish fingers - or pasta or jacket potatoes.

Sorry I am a miserable git today :o

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 23/04/2012 16:39

Eggs and tins of tuna could be your saviour! It's hard if you have a freezer of 'forbidden' stuff.

Can you try and make larger portions of main meals, so that you can freeze a portion for you each time? Then there's always something suitable in the freezer for you.

OP posts:
MrsNouveauRichards · 23/04/2012 16:59

Run out of eggs! I have tuna, cooked chicken, courgettes, 1 leek, tinned tomatoes, ham, cheese and mozzarella. That is pretty much it in terms of what I can eat!

MrsNouveauRichards · 23/04/2012 17:00

I have stuff in the freezer that I made pre-bootcamp so not bootcamp friendly.

BettyBathroom · 23/04/2012 17:34

Had a hungry morning - ate too early - dd insisted we ate our buttered eggs together ....usually I like to eat my breakie after the school run - when I can
have some peace and quiet.

No Exercise today Sad

B boiled eggs with butter
S handful of almonds and brazils
L leftovers small bowl of Tofu Stir Fry & a Caprese Salad
D Rocket & Ricotta Cheesecake with Braised Fennel & Pepper

Have hit target so happy just to maintain the weight loss from last week - although thighs could always be smaller Wink

MrsNouveauRichards · 23/04/2012 17:51

So, dinner (made from fridge remains) is as follows.....

Courgette gratin - 1 courgette sliced thinly in a dish, covered with a sauce made from cream cheese, milk, garlic and herbs, topped with cheese.

Leeks fried sauteed in butter, with chicken and some tinned tomatoes mixed in.

Not exactly a classic dish, and a bit dairy heavy, but it could have been chips :o

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 23/04/2012 17:51

Much better than chips!

OP posts:
MrsNouveauRichards · 23/04/2012 17:55

Going to get me some of that old celeriac tomorrow to pretend it is potato :o

doradoo · 23/04/2012 17:56

Evening all!

Not so hungry today (hurray!) but still thinking about food ALOT....

Today's menu has been:

B - 2 fried eggs, streaky bacon, fried tomato
L - left over pork fillet with carrot/celeriac rosti and cream sauce
S - few almonds
D - Belly pork, red cabbage, celeriac mash and gravy.

Going to try to keep the dairy down this week and avoid the wine for as long as possible.

heartstart · 23/04/2012 18:02

So Dh at tesco with list. Dinner fish asparagus and courgette

MrsNouveauRichards · 23/04/2012 18:31

Dinner was ok. The chicken/leek/tomato thing was very yummy, but the gratin was just ok, bit bland.

Drunk a pint of water too.

londonone · 23/04/2012 18:34

Am a bit confused by all the different threads at the moment! I am a day behind so weighed this morning and I and am down 6 pounds since beginning of bootcamp and 22 pounds down since beginning lc 6 weeks ago (including two weeks holiday abroad). Will try to find appropriate thread to post this on!

I have a lot of dairy and might try cutting down this week to see if it has an imopact. Also just joined gym today so will soon start swimming and maybe some walking.

Everyone is doing so well and this thread is so supportive. You guys are fab!

GreenEyesAndHam · 23/04/2012 18:35

My dinner was gammon steak, fried egg and

Cabbage Hmm cabbage ffs, everyone knows it should have been crinkly chips, peas and white bread and butter but I DID NOT CAVE.

Cabbage! I ask you

WillieWaggledagger · 23/04/2012 18:37

just realised I am going to a quiz and chips tomorrow night at work

I'm going to have to eat the fish without the batter

teaandthorazine · 23/04/2012 18:38

The butternut has just come out of the oven. Have cooked up the last of the low carb sossies for snacks. Made ds a scrummy looking prawn and spinach stirfry but with loads of rice for him; wish I'd saved a non-rice bit for me!

I love cooking this food. It's so satisfying. Have a big bit of pork belly in the fridge - have never cooked it before (would never have even thought of buying it before!) but am cooking it for my parents tomorrow night with celeriac mash and buttered garlic green beans.

Am hoping to gently persuade them to come over to this WOE - theyre both overweight, I think my mum is bordering on diabetic and my dads on statins for his 'high cholesterol' - but they're devoted to their low fat spreads and white bread....

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 23/04/2012 18:38

There are three key threads, londonone - this one for chat, KeepOrf's weigh-in one (which will be updated by the magnificent KeepOrf and her magical spreadsheet tomorrow, and the recipe one.

GreenEyes - I love cabbage! White cabbage, par boiled for a couple of minutes, then added to an onion which you have softened in butter for about 5 minutes. Add juice of a lemon and lots of black pepper. Lid on pan and stew for about 30 minutes. Absolutely gorgeous!
