So we have survived week one, more or less intact Grin

There has been a lot of cheating along the way - either intentional or accidental - but most people seem to be getting on with it and embracing low carbing. And we have seen some spectacular results already!

As one of the cheaters, I can tell you what you will already have discovered for yourself:

This way of eating (WOE) is an unforgiving one. If you slip up or cheat, it will show up on the scales

I know it's hard. I drank wine on both Friday and Saturday night. But it really is up to you how strict you choose to be - and therefore hopefully you will understand that it is up to you how much weight you are losing.

I realise this sounds patronising. But it's the ultimate truth of this (or any) diet.

Having said all that, I also know that there are some people who are struggling, and for whom weight loss has been very slow.

Just remember, if you have less weight to lose, then your rate of loss will be slower than those who have more to lose. And any loss, even if it's only a pound or so, is still a loss. Visualisation is always helpful for me if I think I've only lost a pound this week. Remember, a pound loss is like two packets of lard! That's a lot of fat.

And if weight loss is slow, or you're not seeing the scales move, have a long look at what you have been eating and drinking, and be really honest with yourself. Have you been following the rules? Have you been allowing carby things into your diet? Have you being drinking enough water? Try keeping a food diary so you can record everything (and I mean everything) that you're eating and drinking, as this can help you identify what might be affecting your progress.

If you still can't work out why it's happening (or not happening!), post what you've been eating and drinking here, and others might be able to help and advise you.

Anyway. Lecture over! Welcome to Week 2. Hopefully you will all see significant loss this week as well. But those of you who have lost loads in week 1 - don't expect to see the same kind of loss in this week - it's inevitable that it will slow down. Remember that sustainable, long term weight loss is around 1-2lbs per week.

And those of you who are struggling, hopefully another strict week will get things going for you! And I also hope that everyone has got through their carb withdrawals by now, and you are all feeling fantastic!

Onwards and downwards ... Grin

That cabbage does sound yummy BIWI, I grant you.

It's not that I don't like cabbage... just would've preferred chips n peas

FauxFox · 23/04/2012 19:08

godess why is a large glass of red showing as no carbs in your list? I thought the reason we were not supposed to be drinking it was the carb content?

Thegoddessblossom · 23/04/2012 19:09

MNP - 11!!!! Jeepers. I don't think I could ever get there!!!!

Thegoddessblossom · 23/04/2012 19:10

FauxFox - I have no idea - ask MyFitnessPal.com - that was a direct cut and paste....

SharonGless · 23/04/2012 19:16

B: salami rolled up with Philly in it
L: roast chicken salad wi dollop of mayo
D: mackerel salad with boiled eggs in it although DH is having some baby new potatoes with us so am slightly jealous.

When we come out of boot camp can we eat potatoes?

Am knackered today - busy weekend and up at 540.

DS birthday tomorrow so got presents to wrap and birthday cake to buy make

GreenEyesAndHam · 23/04/2012 19:22

I think (and I'm no expert) that potatoes are pretty much forbidden fruit as far as low carbing goes Sharon.

Bummer eh?

MrsNouveauRichards · 23/04/2012 19:24

How about sweet potatoes? They are much better aren't they?

MNP · 23/04/2012 19:25

Not an aim I have to say Goddess but not a huge veg eater per sa.

slowlyburningcalories · 23/04/2012 19:36

Ok.
breakfast was a salmon fillet leftover with a poached egg
Lunch was a baked rainbow trout with a HUGE green salad and a generous dollop of mayo
Dinner will be home made burgers (weight about 130g each and having two) with green salad and spinach and Mayo.

I'm not eating enough fat am I?

LackaDAILYcarb · 23/04/2012 20:10

Well after a slow start, today was good :)
Had leftover curry for my late breakfast.
Lunch was salad leaves, raw mushrooms, cucumber, w avocado and crispy Bacon and homemade viniagrette.
Dinner was black farmer bangers (just 2) The kids had chips, carrot and peas, and I had creamed leeks and spinach and buttered broccoli. I had about 6 thin carrot slices.
Mid afternoon snack was a handful of olives and I just polished off the rest of the broccoli.
Water has been 2plus litres.
I feel much more motivated tonight.

My Rocket and Ricotta Cheesecake was a success - even the dcs enjoyed it! Instead of using walnuts for the base as the recipe had suggested, I used MsRinky's pizza crust from the recipe thread, pre-baked it before adding the cheese mixture - it was a really good substitute for pastry, very firm and crunchy - will definitely use it again for quiches and or savory cheesecakes.

ANTagony · 23/04/2012 20:20

MrsNouveauRichards. Have you tried celeriac as a potato substitute?

So far I have made wild garlic crisps, butter chips, herby smashed cubes and mash. All have been gorgeous. I'm a complete convert and more importantly no longer miss my spuds

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 23/04/2012 20:23

Potatoes are out, really - and sweet potato isn't much better (there's a clue in the word 'sweet'!)

ohforfoxsake · 23/04/2012 20:42

I was thinking about you today Lacka - am so pleased you got through it without succumbing! Smile

MsRinky · 23/04/2012 20:46

Ooh, I'm going to make Delia's Roquefort cheesecake with a flax base as soon as I've been shopping. Cheese as a main ingredient rather than a random snack is allowed in my world.

flipflopflap · 23/04/2012 20:53

Wow thanks for the tip Betty I've been using walnuts in my cheesecakes but think I'll try that. Just googled Delia's Roquefort cheesecake and it looks delicious. All on shopping list for next week Wink

MrsNouveauRichards · 23/04/2012 21:04

I am going to get a celeriac tomorrow at the market!

Lovecat · 23/04/2012 21:16

Well, I'm back in the saddle after the weekend disaster... however, because the weekend was taken up with putting together furniture, I didn't get a chance to shop or cook soup for lunches.

So today's lunch/breakfast was whatever the Tesco at Bishopsgate could provide!

Breakfast - 1 sausage & egg muffin, packet of chedds (cubes of cathedral city)
Lunch - 3 stalks of celery filled with Ardennes pate with mushrooms (2.8g of carbs per 100g, I used about 70g)
Dinner - I had to take some stuff back to IKEA, DD had meatballs and chips there while I looked longingly at them bought some salmon fillets in the food market and had one at home with spinach, broccoli and philly cheese melted as a sauce. Yum. They're quite handy, actually, being frozen in individual packets, and only 15 mins in the oven from frozen.

I'll have to do a proper shop tomorrow night. I bought a celeriac last week but am fighting shy of it. It looks wrong ...

SharonGless · 23/04/2012 21:22

Tesco have failed me in my quest for celeriac Sad
Will try the local shops near work tomorriw

MNP · 23/04/2012 22:07

LoveCat DH liked the celeriac, for me it tasted too much like parsnips.

FourThousandHoles · 23/04/2012 22:23

Hello! Been offline for a couple of days, but have skimmed this thread and the old one

I have lost SIX POUNDS

woo hoo

and in other good news, I've been selected to do the Waitrose Cookery Thingy Grin

Celeriac is lovely, usually I mash it 50:50 with potato otherwise no-one else here will eat it. Treat it like a swede.

LackaDAILYcarb · 23/04/2012 23:17

Well done 4000holes Envy

I hope it will all be low carb :o

Just home from work, and inspite of a stop at the co-op (my sweet stop of choice) for bog roll, I sailed past the sweets and chocolate, and though I hovered at the chiller for ages, I didn't buy any diet Pepsi, I chose water instead. Go me!

Lovecat · 24/04/2012 00:02

Wow 4k holes, that's brilliant! :o

Thanks MNP - I quite like parsnips, so that has encouraged me. Perhaps try to roast chunks of it in goose fat... mmmm....

Right, bed! Goodngiht all :)

WizzyBizzy · 24/04/2012 06:35

Morning all.
Well last night was a bit tricky as I had a work function thingy and there was very little suitable food. Fortunately it was a buffet so I could load my plate with what was ok (sausages) and steer clear of what wasn't (pizza pieces, tomato salad loaded with dressing etc). Unfortunately the only salad was cous cous, which I'm pretty sure isn't allowed, but I did have some. However, I did not have: any wine or any of the amazing desserts. Funny thing is that I went over and had a good look at the dessert table to admire it, but wasn't at all tempted to take one. Weird!

So yesterday was:

B: 2 scrambled eggs with mushrooms fried in butter
L: bacon and goats cheese salad
S: kale chips
D: some small canape's Inc mackerel pâté and a goats cheese thing, then 2 sausages, a bit of cous cous salad and some grilled aubergine with halloumi. Did succumbe to 2 glasses of homemade lemonade as well. Oh well....

Havrn't thought about today yet but fridge is quite well stocked.

FauxFox · 24/04/2012 07:02

Food was OK yesterday, bit of a hungry day though - I added snacks of 2 x celery sticks with cream cheese, a sausage and a chunk of parmesan and I'm afraid I drank some red wine last night Blush in my defence it was already open, about half a bottle and DH was away with work o/n last night and I don't like it when he's not here and i have to lock up etc, it makes me anxious < pathetic emoticon >

Anyway, no more cheating and i'm not weighing til Friday morning now so should have a few days for damage limitation.

Today:
B: A sausage and some cherry toms
L: Mackerel pate and lettuce
D: Green Thai chicken curry and stirfried veg
S: Marinated tofu pieces
