So we have survived week one, more or less intact Grin

There has been a lot of cheating along the way - either intentional or accidental - but most people seem to be getting on with it and embracing low carbing. And we have seen some spectacular results already!

As one of the cheaters, I can tell you what you will already have discovered for yourself:

This way of eating (WOE) is an unforgiving one. If you slip up or cheat, it will show up on the scales

I know it's hard. I drank wine on both Friday and Saturday night. But it really is up to you how strict you choose to be - and therefore hopefully you will understand that it is up to you how much weight you are losing.

I realise this sounds patronising. But it's the ultimate truth of this (or any) diet.

Having said all that, I also know that there are some people who are struggling, and for whom weight loss has been very slow.

Just remember, if you have less weight to lose, then your rate of loss will be slower than those who have more to lose. And any loss, even if it's only a pound or so, is still a loss. Visualisation is always helpful for me if I think I've only lost a pound this week. Remember, a pound loss is like two packets of lard! That's a lot of fat.

And if weight loss is slow, or you're not seeing the scales move, have a long look at what you have been eating and drinking, and be really honest with yourself. Have you been following the rules? Have you been allowing carby things into your diet? Have you being drinking enough water? Try keeping a food diary so you can record everything (and I mean everything) that you're eating and drinking, as this can help you identify what might be affecting your progress.

If you still can't work out why it's happening (or not happening!), post what you've been eating and drinking here, and others might be able to help and advise you.

Anyway. Lecture over! Welcome to Week 2. Hopefully you will all see significant loss this week as well. But those of you who have lost loads in week 1 - don't expect to see the same kind of loss in this week - it's inevitable that it will slow down. Remember that sustainable, long term weight loss is around 1-2lbs per week.

And those of you who are struggling, hopefully another strict week will get things going for you! And I also hope that everyone has got through their carb withdrawals by now, and you are all feeling fantastic!

Onwards and downwards ... Grin

What does IPD stand for, I'm sure it's not what wiki comes up with!

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 23/04/2012 14:09

IPD = Idiot Proof Diet

Yes, london - a lot of the main courses are also all pretty heavy on the cream!

But there are some really good ideas in there as well.

Idiot Proof Diet as in the book written by India Knight and Neris Thomas, that is.

ANTagony · 23/04/2012 14:13

Thank you. I'll have a look in the library for it.

Thegoddessblossom · 23/04/2012 14:19

So the question is....do I go to the gym this afternoon. Or not. Can I be arsed???????? Hmm

MariaCallous · 23/04/2012 14:23

Don't ask me goddess, my answer will be the wrong one...

Still feeling crap. This is beginning to annoy me, few more hours work, then a race round for a few hours with the smalls and bed as soon as DD can be shoe-horned into hers.

Water is going down more slowly than usual but probably at 1.5 litres (usually 2.5 by this time) and no food slips.

MNP · 23/04/2012 14:43

So I have joined My Fitness Pal so it doesn't seem to allow for reduced carbs so do people just ignore the % it shows and keep to 15-20g a day? What should I be aiming for in the fats % per day?

FiddleDeFat · 23/04/2012 15:00

MNP - If you click on the 'My Home' tab and then 'Goals' you can use the custom option to change the daily nutritional goals such as calories and % carbs, etc.

It took me a while to find this when I first started and I kept looking at it thinking 'You want me to eat how many carbs?!'

FiddleDeFat · 23/04/2012 15:04

Oops, sorry, I think you may have already found it. I have mine set at 1300 cals, 10% carbs = 33g, 35% protein = 114g and 55% fat = 79g.

This seemed to be the best balance I could make it. I don't very often go over the cals, never reach the the 33g of carbs and keep exceding the fat. If you find a better balance let me know.

vnmum · 23/04/2012 15:08

went to the gym this morning and did weights and then finished with a 20 min run on treadmill.
Breakfast was 2 scrambled eggs (without cream or milk) cooked in butter and 2 slices of ham.
Lunch was a chicken, ham and avocado salad with a bit of mayo and dressed in oil (ham needs eating up)
I am aiming for a complete dairy free week to see if it works.

Tonight we are supposed to be going to a bbq at DH work. I will just have meat and any salad veg they might have and hope that the burgers and sausages aren't too full with fillers. It might make for an interesting conversation when people notice we are both not eating the bread etc. It is the first time I will meet some of DH work colleagues.

I did start tracking on my fitness pal but got fed up with the carb counts not being accurate so just tracked myself

MNP · 23/04/2012 15:16

Fiddle i notice it does meat carbs, and can't see how to alter it but have set it for a 2lb weekly loss and it has allocated 1300 calories so will look at the carbs we are counting not the total.

Had lunch even tho I'm not hungry and am planning this weeks meals.

londonlottie · 23/04/2012 15:40

FiddleDeFat - does this apply to the website or to the iPhone app too? Struggling to find a way to adapt my goals on my phone...

londonlottie · 23/04/2012 15:42

Ah, just found the answer to my question - need to make the changes on the website and then sync to the phone.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 23/04/2012 15:43

Don't bother! Honestly - it's not worth the angst trying to track and count stuff

ohforfoxsake · 23/04/2012 15:56

But I like the pie chart which tells me that today my diet has been made up of 72% fat Shock 18% protein and 10% carbs. My lunch today was 1172 calories. probably a bit too much cheese & salami involved in my salad then Hmm

Pork stirfry for dinner to even it all up a bit.

MNP · 23/04/2012 15:56

I don't think I am eating enough carbs or fats BIWI so it is a way for me to monitor.

MNP · 23/04/2012 15:58

Wow foxsake mine was just over 500.

MNP · 23/04/2012 15:58

Tho trying a dairy free week.

mummyduff · 23/04/2012 16:06

Hi all,

I think everybody is doing fantastically and love this thread for keeping me motivated.

Well after 2 hours at the gym I ache all over, but had 3 people comment on weight loss before 9.30am wohoo!

Had egg for breakfast and omelette for lunch x

slowlyburningcalories · 23/04/2012 16:08

Ok. I think I have misunderstood. I thought the idea was to eat as few carbs as possible, I didn't realise that I could have 20g a day.

I am struggling to get enough water into me today. I am genuinely sloshing! Is it 3 litres on top of the odd coffee/tea and fruit tea or 3liters in total?

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 23/04/2012 16:08

mummyduff - where is your veg?! You can't just eat eggs at every meal with nothing else! Lovely though eggs are, and as nutritionally fabulous as they are, you have to eat some carbs as well.

OP posts:
ohforfoxsake · 23/04/2012 16:09

There was a whole avocado in there too. Grin may have to lay off the dairy for the rest of the week now!

heartstart · 23/04/2012 16:18

Hi not sure if anyone heard me earlier but can I join. Have eaten an oopsie roll, chicken and lettuce for breakfast smoke salmon salad with mayo for lunch 2 l water (inc 3 teas) is that ok???

ohforfoxsake · 23/04/2012 16:21

Welcome heartstart sorry to have missed you earlier. given what I've just had, I think that sounds just fine Grin

londonlottie · 23/04/2012 16:23

Hi heartstart - I've just started too :)

I'm not sure what a MiM is either - anyone?
