So we have survived week one, more or less intact Grin

There has been a lot of cheating along the way - either intentional or accidental - but most people seem to be getting on with it and embracing low carbing. And we have seen some spectacular results already!

As one of the cheaters, I can tell you what you will already have discovered for yourself:

This way of eating (WOE) is an unforgiving one. If you slip up or cheat, it will show up on the scales

I know it's hard. I drank wine on both Friday and Saturday night. But it really is up to you how strict you choose to be - and therefore hopefully you will understand that it is up to you how much weight you are losing.

I realise this sounds patronising. But it's the ultimate truth of this (or any) diet.

Having said all that, I also know that there are some people who are struggling, and for whom weight loss has been very slow.

Just remember, if you have less weight to lose, then your rate of loss will be slower than those who have more to lose. And any loss, even if it's only a pound or so, is still a loss. Visualisation is always helpful for me if I think I've only lost a pound this week. Remember, a pound loss is like two packets of lard! That's a lot of fat.

And if weight loss is slow, or you're not seeing the scales move, have a long look at what you have been eating and drinking, and be really honest with yourself. Have you been following the rules? Have you been allowing carby things into your diet? Have you being drinking enough water? Try keeping a food diary so you can record everything (and I mean everything) that you're eating and drinking, as this can help you identify what might be affecting your progress.

If you still can't work out why it's happening (or not happening!), post what you've been eating and drinking here, and others might be able to help and advise you.

Anyway. Lecture over! Welcome to Week 2. Hopefully you will all see significant loss this week as well. But those of you who have lost loads in week 1 - don't expect to see the same kind of loss in this week - it's inevitable that it will slow down. Remember that sustainable, long term weight loss is around 1-2lbs per week.

And those of you who are struggling, hopefully another strict week will get things going for you! And I also hope that everyone has got through their carb withdrawals by now, and you are all feeling fantastic!

Onwards and downwards ... Grin

Well done BIWI for getting into the 9s! And yy to Dr Briffa webchat.

I am rather ill at the moment. I have been sick and on the loo constantly since late last night, kidneys also playing up again, so am not dieting (not eating at all actually). Drs again next week to see what's what. I will carry on with the spreadsheet though (got to love those numbers!).

GreenEyesAndHam · 29/04/2012 18:17

Get well soon GetOrf and I would like to see the recipes for the muffins and truffles too please x x xx

Thegoddessblossom · 29/04/2012 19:45

Made cauliflowers cheese with loads of cheese and bacon for tea (added onion too as dh would have boycotted it otherwise) and then stirred loads of spinach through it. utterly lush.

Have done really well today. Think I'm finally getting the hang of it!

Thegoddessblossom · 29/04/2012 19:46

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well Getorf hope things improve soon.

smokinaces · 29/04/2012 20:10

I've just realised I'm going to chessington next week and planning a big picnic packed lunch thing. Argh. What can I have instead of sandwich/crisps/cake??

Get well soon getoff

WillieWaggledagger · 29/04/2012 20:11

sounds miserable goml - hope you feel better soon

i made a pizza quiche for supper (using this recipe more or less) and it was FAB. base was reasonably authentic, like a slightly soggy regular base. dp agreed it was v good

i made one and a quarter of it (about 5-6g carbs for those who are interested) was enough for supper. going to use the other three slices for lunch this week

BettyBathroom · 29/04/2012 20:12

Pumpkin was chopped and roasted in Olive oil - not Olives. Blush

BettyBathroom · 29/04/2012 20:22

smokinaces The savoury muffin I just posted on the recipe thread would work well for a picnic, or a crustless quiche - there's a recipe for one in the May Waitrose Illustrated it looks pretty good - add some ham or bacon if you need a meat fix. I'd also take a salad - Mozzarella, cherry tom & basil is quite robust for travelling and doesn't spoil too much when the dressing is added in the morning. Finish with some berries.

MNP · 29/04/2012 20:46

Own caught turbot roasted and served with leeks, button mushrooms, purple sprouting broccoli and a little roasted red pepper cooked in oil and butter and topped with grated cheese.

mummyduff · 30/04/2012 07:14

Morning all, the sun is out here, typical now the weekend is over, unfortunately my fence did not survive the wind and rain Angry.

I just wondered if a new thread was being started as off today?

BettyBathroom and BIWI just looked at your recipes and they are fab Smile

MrsNouveauRichards · 30/04/2012 07:24

Morning GetOrf sorry you are still feeling rough, hopefully the Dr can fix you.

Loving the sound of those muffins.

Dinner went well, the halloumi salad was amazing, I enjoyed the butternut squash and chickpeas with the belly pork but found I really wasn't hungry after the starter salad, then I ate a few mouthfuls of my pudding which again was lovely. Did have 2 glasses of champagne and 2 of red wine though....

Not expecting a loss this morning.

Thegoddessblossom · 30/04/2012 07:56

I know we are not counting calories but it's hard to get your head round MFP telling you you will be 1 billion pounds if you carry on eating this way, when you've actually had a low carb day. You can't configure MFP to predict weight loss on a LC plan can you?

WillieWaggledagger · 30/04/2012 08:05

hi goddess, no you can't, and you have to bear in mind too that mfp works on the basis ( i think) that a 3,500 kcal deficite = 1lb loss, which is too simplified for individual bodies, diets and lifestyles

ohforfoxsake · 30/04/2012 08:12

I use it for keeping an eye on carbs. Bear in mind a lot of the food from the database has been inputed with only the calories counted, so it's fairly useless for carb/nutrition counting. However, I like to track what I eat (control freak that I am) and to track my weight daily so it's a useful tool in that respect, but pretty useless for counting carbs.

'own caught turbot'. You have no idea how impressed I am by this Grin

vnmum · 30/04/2012 08:22

sorry your feeling rough getorf.
Will input my weight on official thread but have gained the 2lb I lost yesterday back overnight. Must be water weight. I was thirsty all day yesterday and woke up with a parched mouth so I am going to drink, drink, drink today.

BIWI Yes to Dr Briffa. That would be really good and maybe nudge a few of those Low callers to this healthier way of eating.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 30/04/2012 08:27

Don't bother using it, Goddess!!!

The whole idea of the allowed veg list, plus the instruction to focus on veg/salad that's only 3g carbs per 100g, as well as eating only pure/unprocessed protein, will mean that you are eating 'properly' from a low carb perspective. (Assuming you're also eating the fat ...)

mummyduff - there is a new weigh-in thread HERE

LittleFrieda · 30/04/2012 09:04

GetOrf - Sorry you are feeling unwell. Hope doc's appt goes well.

What is MFP?

Is it OK to eat Hellman's mayo, during bootcamp? I've been very good and have no cravings whatsoever. And my skin isn't dry any more, is this normal? Even the skin on my feet feels softer.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 30/04/2012 09:11

Absolutely, it's OK LF - as long as you check the carb count and know how many you're dolloping on your plate! The carb counts of different mayonnaises do vary, but obviously so does the taste - no point buying one you don't like the taste of just because it's lower carb.
