BIWI's Bootcamp Banter - Day 5 in the Low Carb House

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 20/04/2012 07:40

So it's Friday. The start of the Dangerous Days, otherwise known as the weekend.

Can I remind everyone that there is to be no alcohol during bootcamp

I'm sorry LackaDAILYcarb. In my defence I do think that I probably am coeliac but in order to be tested I would have to start eating wheat again because otherwise I would fail the immunological test because I've been avoiding wheat for the last 6 months now. I'd then have to submit to the biopsy which doesn't sound particularly fun. I'm happy to avoid wheat for the rest of my life on the basis that it seriously screws with my digestive system and that it's actually bad for everyone. Apologies for suggesting that everyone just claims coeliac - I didn't think anything about that other than making people think about how horrible wheat is more common.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 20/04/2012 18:43

.... but I appreciate how you feel about it too

Oh, sorry Jacaqueen - I missed your post there. I've lost nearly three and a half stone by low carbing since last September. I've only got a stone or two left to go so it's slowed down a lot but at one point I was on steroids which made me hungry all the time and I was eating about 3000 low carb calories a day and I didn't gain an ounce.

Lovecat · 20/04/2012 18:49

How did it go, Lacka??

Happy Birthday, Shirl!

BIWI, you would have been proud of me today. Team lunch to celebrate a colleague passing her exams. Her choice.

Feckin' Wagamamas....

There were 2 salads on the menu - one had red peppers and edamame beans, the other had slices of mandarin orange in it (fgs, why?). I asked if I could have the chicken/mandarin salad without the mandarin, they said no Shock. Too much hassle for them to pick it out, as it comes ready done. So I had it, dressing on the side (also full of OJ), and spent 5 mins picking out every single piece of mandarin and dropping it in the dressing bowl. Put a bit of soy sauce on it instead. It tasted lovely :)

Then, on the way back, they were giving out free samples of the new Haagen Daz flavours. Chocolate Fondant and Creme Brulee. I turned it down

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 20/04/2012 19:08

I don't even like ice cream very much but I am joining in with the sobs at the thought of chocolate fondant and creme brulee. Grin

I am going out with DH tonight. Just saying ... Blush

I have not lost nuffin today. Not one ounce. I have had my low carb breakfast, I have drunk my three litres of water, I had a low carb lunch and will have a low carb dinner.

Shucks. It was all going so nicely as well. I think I may have to cut out the decaf tea and coffees.

Tomorrow will be difficult as it is my MiLs birthday and they are carb heavy family, I'm takin fish, and a spinich dish but even so it'll be hard.

NUFC69 · 20/04/2012 19:26

I lost over 50 lbs by following the IPD when it first came out (to my shame I put it all back on when we had family problems - and I restarted a few weeks ago). There are some really lovely recipes in the recipe book which came out later - some of you have already had the moussaka, - try the Salmon and Feta bake, too - wonderful. I just wanted to say that it is very easy to adapt lots of your normal recipes.

I have learnt all sorts of new things, though, from reading the threads since BIWI started, so thanks very much.

I also wanted to say that I was interested to read here that citrus fruits are recommended if you have night cramps; my sister suffers from them a lot and has recently read that in fact citrus fruits can cause them, so she avoids anything like that at all now. It is difficult, isn't it, all this conflicting advice?

Ah well, onwards and, hopefully, downwards.

Twit · 20/04/2012 19:35

Fucking bollocks I posted on t'other thread and it went poof!

Hope everyone is ok.

Ledkr I have felt just awful these last few days (in case you hadn't noticed Blush ) so I get it. I totally agree variety is the way forward.

ANyhoo. I did (sorry BIWI) have a teensy bit of porridge last night, (2 dessertspoons of oats and water). It didn't make me feel much better BUT (despite fecking BAbyTwit waking me up every 2 hrs) I felt fine this morning. STill a bit wobbly and tired, but I am happy to blame that on BF'ing a baby who won't let me sleep more than 2 hours at a time Angry Sad
I'm not one for weighing myself, but did so this morning and will do tomorrow just to make sure I am losing still.

breakfast: 2 rashers bacon, 1 egg, 1 beef tom, 1 flat mushroom - all fried in butter.
lunch: same minus the tom and mushroom plus a salad (before tescos)
tea: roasted chicken joint and cauliflower cheese

Drinking lots still but definately felt like I needed a snack (ham, soft cheese and bit of salad wrap) I blame it on the BF'ing again.
Alot of dairy I think, but we'll see if it's a problem.

MrsNouveauRichards · 20/04/2012 19:40

I am struggling with the urge for chocolate! I have some posh dark chocolates in the cupboard. Resisting so far....

Just been invited out for curry tomorrow night. Looking forward to being able to have a meal out, stick to the diet and enjoy it.

Twit · 20/04/2012 19:41

Oh and agree with LAcka. I am embarrassed to mention coeliacness because I get the feeling alot of people are Hmm at it being a fad etc etc. Yet if I do eat wheat I puff up all over (water) ache in my joints, get really itchy elbows and knees and if I'm really lucky spend a couple of days unable to get out of bed only managing peppermint tea (which is disgusting normally) in agony. Oh and I'm a right fucking bitch queen from hell grump.... oh....ah

Blush Grin

LackaDAILYcarb · 20/04/2012 19:55

Oh, I know BIWI, I am equally guilty of not telling people I am on a diet and accepting things offered and if I had a pound for overtime my inlaws have tried to feed me biscuits or sandwiches or asked can't you have one as a treat...or worse, invited us round for a meal and there has been nothing I can eat. At the last family gathering all I was offered was some birds eye frozen rice with peas in Hmm and I'm made to feel like I am being difficult and faddy.

So while I appreciate that accepting something because we are too soft to say we don't want/need/like/are choosing not to eat it is difficult, is a lot different from saying you have a health condition when you don't. It really trivialises the experience of the people who suffer from that health condition and, as In the case of being gluten free, find getting something to eat impossible sometimes, especially when eating out. Or worse, people feeding it to you regardless because they think they know better and being ill for days on end.

We should all just grow a pair and tell it like it is.

Am probably being very unreasonable. I'm blaming it on a carb crash after my bounty bar :o

vnmum · 20/04/2012 19:57

tea and ledkr you need one of these so you can still drink when out with work but without the worry of finding a loo in a hurry Grin

I made some oopsie rolls today. They are rather nice aren't they. Even DH said they were yummy. I had them instead of a wrap with chicken fajitas. You can also make a sponge cake out of them too by adding protein powder, sweetner and baking powder. Think I will be having a try of that after bootcamp. That is if I ever lose any bloody weight!!

At this rate I'll still be on bootcamp this time next year trying to get in the 9's! (slight exaggeration I know, but pissed off with not losing despite being strict)

LackaDAILYcarb · 20/04/2012 20:03

Oh, the interview was good :) Nerve cracking, but I enjoyed the whole process though I did lose my composure at one question and they had to drip feed me before I twigged what they were asking Blush. And there is more than one post, and only five candidates, so good odds. I will find out after the 2nd May, fingers crossed.

I feel I deserve wine for a job well done though Grin

MrsNouveauRichards · 20/04/2012 20:04

Lacka (and others) waitrose had some amazing recipes for cakes that were gluten free as made with vegetables and rice flour -chocolate aubergine was one. BIWI is going to kill me isn't she? :o

LackaDAILYcarb · 20/04/2012 20:07

Nerve cracking? Gotta love autocorrect :o

SharonGless · 20/04/2012 20:16

Quick question can I use white wine if cooking? Making creamy mushroom sauce and recipe says wine

TheGoddessBlossom · 20/04/2012 20:20

Sharon you KNOW what BIWI is going to say....

TheGoddessBlossom · 20/04/2012 20:21

Welldone lacka!!!!

WizzyBizzy · 20/04/2012 20:29

Shitty shitty shitty day, culminating in DS pooing in the bath this evening. I had to fish it all out piece by piece

Surely not even BIWI would begrudge me a glass of wine under the circumstances??!!

B / L: As previous
S: 3 slices of chorizo
D: Stir fry with prawns, various green veg and a wee bit of butternut squash. DH cooked and only cock up was that he 'helpfully' used low-cal spray oil instead of olive oil/butter (only told me afterwards) presuming that as I was on a diet that's what I'd want. Oh well... Yoghurt with a bit of cinammon for pudding. Have I mentioned that i've totally given up on the dairy?

Still drinking my water. But seriously, I'm not sure I can get through this evening without a teeny tiny wine

Glad presentations/interviews went well.

SharonGless · 20/04/2012 20:34

Lol but it is Friday....

Sure I read somewhere that it's ok on LC

Wishful thinking?

noddyholder · 20/04/2012 20:39

Ok I went out to an early dinner Steak green salad 2 glasses red wine coffee sorry!

cybbo · 20/04/2012 20:39

NODDY NODDY come and see my new shoes Ash rip offs

S and B thread black/Brown?

Lovecat · 20/04/2012 21:13

I have just eaten a gorgeous dinner and feel like I'm about to burst. Haddock Florentine with creamed swede mash and buttered broccoli. I was trying to recreate a low-carb version of one of my fave restaurant dishes - it wasn't the same, but it was bloody lovely :o

Need to drink more water. Have had too much (black) coffee today... too many meetings in Costa!

Glad it all went well, Lacka :)

Wine is ok on LC, but not in Bootcamp!

Twit · 20/04/2012 21:16

Have realised I sounded ranty, sorry. I agree with the rest of Queenstromba's thread.
Blush and sorry again.
