So it's Friday. The start of the Dangerous Days, otherwise known as the weekend.

Can I remind everyone that there is to be no alcohol during bootcamp

I wrote agreat big long post earlier _ where did that go? Must have posted it into the ether. Anyway it was long a dull but (hugs) to ledkr - I didn't know about the waiting list, I hope you get soem good news soon.

I had a ploughman's lunch (yum) but feel very cheesed off as all colleagues were going to Browns in Bath (really lovely place) to drink cocktails after work. I would kill for a bellini, french cocktail, kir royale, cosmopolitan. But can't so cried off and am going home to laundry and grocery shopping.

French cocktail? I meant French martini. Anyway, I want one.

But posting twice makes up for the lost one :o

Sorry you are missing out on cocktails.

Happy birthday Shirty!

How did Daisy do with her interview, & BIWI , how did the presentation go?
How are you doing Ledkr?

Spent the day with friends and their 3 year old dd. She was so sweet, she kept offering me her sweets, her pizza, her chocolate eggs.....I told her I wasn't allowed to eat them because I had eaten too many and she was fine though kept offering, to be polite. I had the 'just one, who would know?' thought but resisted as for me there is no such thing as just one sweety!

Having dreadful problems on the poo-front. Still, when I finally manage something the weight loss should be considerable!

ANTagony · 20/04/2012 17:26

Just realised I'm out at a cheese and wine night, In a fortnight. If I don't eat too much cheese and have just a few tasters of wine it won't throw my weight loss for a week will it?

mummyduff · 20/04/2012 17:35

KeepOrf - I know what you mean a champaign cocktail would go down a teat Wink

However I have just had a prawn stir fry with a lovely drink of water and now off to do bath time with little ones. x

mummyduff · 20/04/2012 17:40

obviously meant treat not teat Grin

QueenStromba · 20/04/2012 17:46

This is a long post but it's one worth reading because it sums up my experience of low carbing since September.

For the people that are having trouble turning down food for politeness sake or because they are worried about people's reactions to saying you are low carbing, what I do in restaurants etc is say that I am coeliac (this might be true - I definitely have issues with wheat) and diabetic (this would be true if I continued to eat carbs - I was borderline pre-diabetic this time last year after eating mostly low GI carbs for many years). I used to just say that I was wheat intolerant and on a low carb diet and always found that people bent over backwards to accomodate me - I just say I'm coeliac and diabetic for simplicity's sake. It's a very British thing to not want to make a fuss but every place I've asked have been happy to do me a mix and match from the menu. If you see something like:

Steak, peas and chips
Salmon, broccoli and new potatoes
Chicken, spinach and pasta

Most places would be happy to give you Steak, broccoli and spinach if you just ask them.

As for depression and carbs. Last summer I had such bad depression that I was having a good day if the only constructive thing I did was have a shower - I managed this maybe twice a week. Citalopram made me better enough that I wanted to do something about the weight gain the depression had caused so I started low carbing and within about a month I had to halve my dose because I was bouncing off the walls.

My insomnia has also almost completely vanished. A good night for me used to be getting to sleep within an hour of lights out and now I get to sleep pretty much straight away most nights and an hour is a bad night. Previously a normal night was not getting to sleep until dawn and a bad night was not sleeping at all.

The other things that have improved are my flatulence, asthma and psoriasis which I think are all at least partly down to cutting out wheat. I used to be a very farty person which was quite embarrassing at times but now I only really fart if I've accidentally eaten something with wheat in it (it's very hard not to eat any wheat because it's in pretty much everything processed). My asthma has gone from me getting through a ventolin inhaler a month to not using it at all for several months. My psoriasis which is only around my nose has gone from being horribly red and inflamed the whole time to just when I'm stressed and even then not so bad.

There are probably other things that cutting out wheat/low carbing have helped that I just haven't put two and two together for yet.

LackaDAILYcarb · 20/04/2012 17:49

Ooooh, found you all. Posted on the other thread, but it was full already Shock It's like being back on a busy ante-natal thread excpet this time we are all waiting to rid ourselves of our food babies Grin

Forgive me LCers, but I have sinned Blush

the university had laid on a salad for me at lunch that was loaded with beans salad, potato salad and humous. I didn't eat the bean or potato salad, but I did have the humous (it had chunks of aubergine in and I thougt it was baba ganoush, honest guv!) some grated carrot and tomatoes othersie all I could have eaten was lettuce and cucumber Confused....oh and there was a bowl of fruit which tasted absolutely divine far too sweet Wink

I then had an hour to wait for my interview, and was flagging so had some coke and a bounty...I could not have got through the afternoon without it though!

Back on the straight and narrow tomorrow and I hope I haven't undone all my good work!

Off to try and catch up!

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 20/04/2012 17:51

I'm back! All went well, thankfully.

ledkr whilst I feel your pain, it's ridiculous to be eating the same thing every day! You wouldn't do that on any other diet, or if you were off a diet, so why would you choose to do that now?! And I absolutely take issue with this advice from greygirl:

add in some sensible carbs - like a proper salad with your chicken at lunchtime

WHAT THE JEFF IS A 'PROPER' SALAD?!

There's nothing about salad that means it can't be eaten on a low carb diet.

greygirl can you explain what you mean? I'm a bit worried you're not eating properly on this WOE either!

ledkr - I would definitely agree that if you can make extra for dinner, then take that for your lunch the next day. I know I'm luckier than most as I work mostly from home, so I have full access to everything that is in my cupboards/fridge/freezer - but there are times when I work at my business partner's house. Then, I take leftovers from home. Or - if you're near a Tesco/Sainsbury, go in and buy a rotisserie chicken/chicken pieces. (Just watch the flavoured ones as they use a lot of sugar in the coating/glaze/marinades).

queen stromba my insomnia has disappeared too - it's an amazing thing to sleep through the night after surviving for several years on next to no sleep. And lack of sleep releases more hunger hormones.

Jacaqueen · 20/04/2012 18:13

This is the thing I dont understand either. Up thread someone said that next week they would be having smoked salmon and that they were not too keen on it. Why have it then?

I had pork belly and cauli mash with garlic for lunch (at home today)

Just had Sainsbugs Ultimate Steak burger (0.1g carbs per burger) topped with a little Strathdon blue cheese served with baby leaf salad and lovely Delouis mayonnaise which is carb free. Yum Yum.

Jacaqueen · 20/04/2012 18:16

Great Post QueenStomba. Can I ask how much weight you have lost on low carb?

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 20/04/2012 18:17

greygirl why are you planning to eat smoked salmon, if you know you don't like it?

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever!

There are so many lovely foods that you can eat on this WOE, why would you do that to yourself? If you know you don't like it, or you restrict your choices, then the chances are very high that you will fall off the diet in a very spectacular way.

ledkr please can you post what you've eaten drunk over the last couple of days, to give us a chance to help you?

Also - I know there are a lot of happy people here in terms of weight loss, but can I just remind you all that we are only on day 5! Coming off the diet at this point in time is self-defeatist. We are not all the same. We're all different starting weights and we'll all be eating/doing different things, therefore it stands to reason that the rate at which we lose weight will differ.

OP posts:
ShirtyKnot · 20/04/2012 18:19

Jacqueline and BIWI. If there's one thing about this WOE it's that the variety available is enormous!

I love the food I can eat!

Also I feel drunk after 4 sips of booze! Cheap date!

I made one of those MiMs earlier - they're a bit interesting and mad! Do you think I could put CHEESE in one?

gothicmama · 20/04/2012 18:21

Oh lacka we can sit at the back together I too have sinned I blame long drive and tiredness I had crips and chocolate but did not have coffee and nicotine as per the old days

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 20/04/2012 18:26

Oooh - in my rantiness I didn't see your post, LackaDaisy - how did the interview go? glosses over rampant cheating

OP posts:
Jacaqueen · 20/04/2012 18:26

Yes you can put grated cheese in them. Maybe add some herbs too. I much prefer these as a savoury scone without any sweetner rather than a cake substitute.

LackaDAILYcarb · 20/04/2012 18:29

As a coeliac, I'm afraid I have to take issue with "just say you are coeliac" and non coeliacs using it as an excuse to avoid carbs. CD already gets lumped in with faddiness and is assumed (by sceptical sorts) to be part of the whole food intolerance "craze" rather than an actual medical condition that has serious consequences if not strictly adhered to. I have lost count of the number of times I've had this face Hmm a lot when trying to explain my dietary requirements.

By all means if you think you have CD ask your doctor for a test, please don't just bandy it around as it negates the seriousness of the condition. And I'm sure people wouldn't use having cancer, or MS or a host of other serious conditions as an excuse not to eat a potato.

That is all

TheGoddessBlossom · 20/04/2012 18:30

I sleep like the DEAD at the moment. I never had problems dropping off but used to stir about 4am and not get back to sleep. This week I have woken up still in the same position!!!!

Jacaqueen · 20/04/2012 18:31

In the coming weeks I'm planning to have lobster tails dipped in butter, king prawns with chilli, fillet steak, lamb curry, beef redang. OK I may have to take out a bank loan, but the best thing about this diet, apart from the fact it works, is the variety of food you can eat.

TheGoddessBlossom · 20/04/2012 18:32

Well said lacka, and understandable you feel that way. I guess it's similar to people claiming to have a slow metabolism to explain being overweight, which people who actually do have that condition would find annoying....

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 20/04/2012 18:38

I get your point, lackaDaisy, but Queen's post is very interesting too - why is it that if we're trying to lose weight it is seen as any less important? Obviously it isn't the same as suffering a life-long medical condition, but if it's still something that we feel is necessary, why is it that

a) we often feel unable to express our own needs/preferences because we're worried about how others will react?

b) when we do express them, others are so quick to dismiss them? You know the kind of thing - "go on, just one XXX won't hurt", etc

I know exactly where Queen is coming from on this one.
