How does one stay motivated when at least 3 stone to lose?

Mummalish · 26/03/2012 18:24

I find the first 3 weeks easy, then I just want to pack it all in. I think its because it's more than just a few pounds I need to lose. I need to lose AT LEAST 3 stone, just to be in the healthy weight range.

I know it's going to take quite some time. I know there's no hurrying it, but I'm just so overwhelmed by it all.

:(

Well I had my weigh in today, 4lbs off, I am ecstatic, moved down into the next stone, that's 19lbs since 6th march, I am completely motivated, two exercise classes today an an hours walk every night, and sticking to 1100 calories a day plus any additional calories from exercise...first time I've been this weight in 4 years.

Onwards and downwards

Gorgeousgirlie1 · 21/04/2012 23:25

Please count me in too... Xx

ssmile · 22/04/2012 07:46

overthehillmum that's Fab!

I've only lost a 1lb this week my weight loss has really slowed this month. Baby is now on 3meals a day so I think the extra 200calories I'd allowed myself for breastfeeding need to go now, see if that helps as I had been on track this week.

Mummalish · 22/04/2012 09:25

Ladies, ladies, ladies......I have been away, with shame. I have been in the kitchen cupboards and down the chippy, I have had my head shoved in pieces of cake.....

I tell you, one slip up for me leads to disaster. So hard to get back on the wagon again.

Yesterday I ate normal meals, then supplemented them with, wait for it....A whole large bag of kettle crisps, and a whole pot of sour cream dip, and an entire tub of haagen daz. Now, can you imagine the bloody calories.

I know I must get back into it, as don't like to fail. So am genuinely going to try again. Need to find that willpower from somewhere.

Well done for confessing Mummalish Grin

Now you are forgiven and can get back into it. If you find it difficult to cut right back on food how about stepping up the exercise so that you can make allowances for some 'treats' now and again?

overthehill that is fantastic, no wonder you are pleased. Seeing the weight come off is the best motivation, well done Smile

Mummalish · 22/04/2012 20:58

That confession felt good. Well tomorrow is another day, and come hell or high water I am going to be good.

Well, i was supposed to weigh today but forgot until I was having my dinner and I am not getting on the scales with a roast inside me.

I shall weigh in tomorrow. Aiming for 1lb a week but I would like to have lost two as i am hoping my body is in shock from the good eating.

MrsHerculePoirot · 23/04/2012 06:40

Well despite a spectacularly bad end o the week I lost 1.5 lbs this week. DH also joined MFP and going to do it too so
Hopefully that will help this week!
Hope everyone had nice/successful weeks!

crikeybill · 23/04/2012 09:24

Wow overthehillmum that's great. You do sound really motivated !
Mine is going a little which is what always happens !
I had a Chinese takeaway on Friday night and Omg it was heaven lol

fantagrape · 23/04/2012 09:36

Morning all!

Wasn't a good weekend - fish and chips, chocolate, roast chicken.. You name it!
Although, I didn't stuff myself with that horrible out of control compulsiveness like I did last weekend. So small silver lining there.

Feeling positive today!

HipHopOpotomus · 23/04/2012 09:53

Good morning everyone - good to see you mummalish and hi all the joiners!!! I'm inspired by your losses to date.

Well done MrsHP Overthehill ssmile (sorry if I missed anyone)

It's been a full on week, with quite a bit of wine, chocolate etc. Still I managed to stay in calories 4/7 days I think.

I weighed this morning & I have lost 500 grammes (1lb) which I am happy with. (Although I can't recall if I wore a towel last week or not so it could be that :))

RE lifestyle changes and achieving long term goals, I am now really eating smaller portion sizes and feeling happy about it. Also I've lost the craving aspect I get when sugar features more regularly in my diet. Plus the butter has gone - I swear I have BF DD2 on butter and toast - got that under control now. I have buttered toast with poached eggs ONE weekend breakfast and really enjoy it.

Not such a busy/social week this week, so I'm going hard out to lose 1 kilo - need to fit some exercise in somewhere.

MadameChinLegs · 23/04/2012 09:55

Think Thin everyone! I love food but at the moment an loving the thought of a skinny me more so am capitalising on that.

Ive been trying to think of it like ' credits' so as I knew id be having a few drinka on sat, I had to earn the redits to spend on the booze by going for a long walk.

Its my first week dieting and ive lost 3lb! Very chuffed as im aiming for 1lb a week. Probably just the shock of healthy food but its a great incentive boost

HipHopOpotomus · 23/04/2012 10:01

Madamchin we rarely eat takeaways - but have you looked at the supermarket ready meal ones? There are some quite good options out there and at least you can check the calorie content and know where you stand.

I LOVE spicy food - I make a really HOT version of this once a week and scoff myself: Generals Tofu I eat it with mega broccoli and courgette ribbons, but it also works with noodles/rice.

Last week I made a huge chilli con carne with lots of veggies and beans and froze it in lunch size portions, so lunch in the office today is chilli on microwaved sweet potato with some salad/tomatoes on the side.

Hi All

Can I join please? I'm currently 18st and never been this big before. DH and I are off on holiday next Feb/March and I cant stand a 7 hour flight with the arms of the seat digging in my sides again. It's so humiliating. And the worst thing is, I know I can lose weight, I lost 2 stone for my wedding in 2010.

Anyway, DH and I are hoping to TTC after our holiday and i'm not going to put me and potentially another person at risk because I cant control what I eat. I'd ideally like to reach my goal of 12 stone by this time next year, and hopefully 2lbs per week can get me there!

I'm using My fitness pal but I haven't got any scales yet so cant enter any weights. Will try and get some or get to boots soon. I've read through this thread and it seems really supportive! I'm actually quite excited! Smile

Ooh everyone sounds SO jolly and positive on this rainy wet Monday (well it is in the SW). Been to dentist this morn was nervous wreck even though only a check up came home had two skinny hotchocolates &two scones. But they were homemade no butter or jam so I calculated 260c for both using MFP receipe creator function so I don't feel too disheartened. I really need to Shred this morning but can't get motivated whilst baby is napping, I wonder how many calories I burnt pushing the huge trolley around Tesco just now :-)
soveryluckly I'd up your exercise if you want to boost loss. A half hr walk everyday will really help, it can be two x 15mins but it really will help. I also do shred DVD 3* a week its 22mins excellent toning. Gd luck

Welcome jellytots hope you do well this week, its hard to start but sounds like you got some great reasons to motivate you. I working towards a weekend (hopefully no kids) snowboarding for my 40th if I can lose 40lbs by next Feb. I'm 27lbs down so far but now its slowing down the olde loss.

Hi again!

Everyone still keeping to the Monday morning resolve to be good? I had a slight wobble when I spotted a left over Easter egg but I didn't cave.

I thought I'd share this soup recipe. It's low Gi, easy to make and so filling that you don't feel deprived if you don't have bread with it. I think it's around 300 cal for a generous bowl according to MFP.

400g tin of chopped tomato
1 white onion, chopped
1 chopped garlic clove
1 or 2 tbsps Harissa paste (according to taste)
1 litre veg stock
400g tin kidney beans
400g tin chick peas
100g cous cous
Salt/pepper to taste and fresh coriander leaves to garnish

Fry the onion slowly in a little oil, until softened. Then add the tomato, garlic and Harissa paste. After a few minutes, add the drained and rinsed kidney beans and chick peas. Add the stock, then simmer until the beans and peas are soft. Then blend until smooth with a hand blender
Add more liquid if needed and check seasoning. Add the couscous and cook a few minutes more. Scatter on your torn up coriander leaves and serve.

It keeps well too, although maybe need to add a bit of water before reheating as it thickens when cold.

Fairenuff · 23/04/2012 16:38

Afternoon all Smile

I lost 1.5lb and hoping for another good week this week.

soverylucky how many calories are you aiming for in a day? Make sure you are not going under much because that won't help the weight loss. Also, are you drinking plenty because this helps to flush it out too. Other than that I am sure you are doing fine and will see a good steady loss if you keep at it.

loveulots 6 stone in a year would be half a stone a month - 2lb a week, as you say. That is quite a lot to do every week but just about possible I would say. Give yourself some small goals to start with, like maybe work towards that first 7lb and treat yourself when you get there with a new nail polish or something? Also, if you don't have scales, take measurements because sometimes when the scales don't show a loss, the tape does and it can be quite motivating.

BonkeyMollocks · 23/04/2012 17:10

Hi all,
So back on it today.
Branflakes for brekkie, chicken salad for lunch, roast veg and pasta for dinner.
I am avoiding bread for a while, this is my downfall. I eat bread I maintain or gain. Would be fine apart from the fact I love bread

Feel ok, but the bloody weather doesn't help :( I wanted to have a long walk this morning to kick me off but the rain put a end to that idea.
Also haven't had enough water today.

Just weighed myself, I have put on 4lbs in a month Shock . I was ill and crept under 12st but back too 12st 3lbs.

It will be gone!!! [determined]

Well done on your loss Fairenuff .Good to see you are sticking at it!!!

soverylucky Thats a good start. Don't push it to much. Slowly off but off for life!

jellytots If you don't have some scales yet, a measuring tape is a good alternative :)

Everybody else, good luck and keep up the good work! :)

BonkeyMollocks · 23/04/2012 17:20

Well done fanta for resisting the dreaded easter egg! :)

I have a poorly baby so have pretty much sat snuggling her up. wanted a magazine though so walked to the shop furthest from my house (without driving) in order to do some exercise.

Still have resisted the snacks. Am staying strong.

Fairenuff · 24/04/2012 19:50

I've stuck to cals and been to pilates Smile
