How does one stay motivated when at least 3 stone to lose?

Mummalish · 26/03/2012 18:24

I find the first 3 weeks easy, then I just want to pack it all in. I think its because it's more than just a few pounds I need to lose. I need to lose AT LEAST 3 stone, just to be in the healthy weight range.

I know it's going to take quite some time. I know there's no hurrying it, but I'm just so overwhelmed by it all.

:(

I'm in too! Three stone of baby weight to lose and a wavering determination to do it. I do exactly the same thing as the OP - try really hard for a couple of weeks, lose a few pounds then feel overcome by the work still to do and fall face first into the biscuit tin. I'm not following any diet plan but I'm eating less treats, walking more and I've started going to Zumba! This week I'm trying to drink more water and I'm picturing all the lovely summer clothes I'll be able to buy/get out of the loft when I'm nice and slim!

MsIngaFewmarbles · 29/03/2012 10:37

Hello everyone. Lets do this together. No guilt, no hassle just support :)

MsIngaFewmarbles · 29/03/2012 16:57

ooh pig to twig looks interesting, how are you finding it?

leakyR · 30/03/2012 11:26

Pig2Twig does look interesting. I love India knight's writing so maybe her diet might work.

BehindLockNumberNine · 30/03/2012 13:31

Definately up for a support group. When are we officially starting? And are we going to get Easter out of the way first?

Mummalish · 30/03/2012 20:09

No time like the present I say.

I am the worlds greediest person, however, I have forced myself to say no to nibbly bits at home in the afternoons and at picnics. It has suprised me how restrained I was, I kept thinking: You'll just feel bad if you eat that easter egg, sandwich, biscuit.

I am finding that willpower is the key. For me to say no to food is a miracle, if I can do it, so can you.

Wiilpower, willpower, willpower......!!!

It think it helps when some weight starts coming off, it just gives me a spark to continue. If I keep on at it, I will be slim again. I can do it, I can do it, I can do it!

Me too please! Marking my place for later...

piratecat · 30/03/2012 20:24

it is willpower, i have little but something just fell into place after xmas. I had put on weight last yr, half a stone, but i thought oops, if this is the way it's going it will be another half t his yr. I was already overweight.

Anyway, i have been using myfitnesspal, and it has made me realised what crap i was eating. I am a veggie, and have for yrs never eaten enough protein, until i started logging in.

I will not give up any food, sod that, but i am sticking to learning what i can and can't have.

Only two slices of wholemeal bread a day. I like bread, i like toast! I have lost 11lbs in as man weeks, and ok it's slow going but it's going! I have a cornetto after tea every day, that's my indulgence.

piratecat · 30/03/2012 20:30

porridge oats for breaky, if i want to have a sarnie for lunch but only 40g. now this looks piddly, but after a few days i got used to it. I put half a tsp of sugar in it, but dont log it in.

On the myfitnesspal you are also meant to log milk in your cups of tea/coffee, but again, sod that, i am not going depress myself and count my cuppa's!!

A great snack for me, esp as a veggie, if i've skipped lunch or not had breaky, is a peanut butter sarnie on wholemeal with sliced banana.

I honestly havent felt hungry on this plan, or deprived.

ssmile · 31/03/2012 20:07

I echo you piratecat I've been doing myfitnesspal since Jan and lost 1-2lb per week. I eat readybrek for breakfast only 30g serving with brown sugar, snack hot x bun or banana, small loaf bread for sandwich no cheese, normally marmite or ham salad, and 500c dinner, I love a crunchie bar for my treat plus I walk 1-2hrs everyday with the buggy. I've found it easy this time to lose weight as mentally I'm in the right place post baby no2. Plus I've had virtually no wine as its easy to load up on calories with a couple of glasses in the evening.

Good luck to all over Easter its really hard with SO much chocolate in the shops at the moment I set my next goal of 11lbs off by June 9th my hols :)

HipHopOpotomus · 02/04/2012 11:26

I'm using MFP too. Previously I had success (years ago just before falling PG with DD1) using Weight Loss resources which is a similar, but paid for, programme.

I eat proper food, not diet food, and I log it and try to work it all out to come in at the right number. Somedays it's hard and I fight the "sod it I'm not logging it" vibes. It was hard logging hot chips and 5 speckled M&S chocolate eggs yesterday, but I ATE THEM, therefore I log them.

Today or tomorrow I will weigh in at Boots.

Fairenuff · 02/04/2012 11:47

Hi everyone, I would like to join you too.

I have been on another thread which started in January but there are only a handful of us still going strong on that one, so looking for more motivation here Smile.

So far this year I've lost 23lb. I would like to lose another stone or two but am taking it slow and steady. I am aiming to stick to 1,000 cals a day so basically have gone very low fat, low sugar, smaller portions and steering clear of processed food.

I saw on the Food Hospital that if you overeat just 200 cals a day, over a week that could add a pound in weight which, over a year, added up to a three stone weight gain! Shocking isn't it. 200 cals is a couple of bags of crisps, or half a packet of biscuits. It's easy to see how it can all go back on if we go back to old habits.

Equally, though, undereating just 200 cals a day can lead to a three stone weight loss over the year, so that's what I'm aiming to do.

crikeybill · 02/04/2012 12:48

Hello everyone,
Can I please join.
Im 37 have 2 dc, 2 big girls and an 8 month old ds. I enjoyed every minute of my 9 month matenrity leave but am now paying the price !! I am now 14stone !!!!! I have never in my life been so fat !!!

I am going to try desperately to get down to 11stone. We are off to centre parcs next year with friends and all the children and the thought of spending 90% of the day in a swimming costume fills me with horror !! I am only 5ft 4 and I look massive !!!

SOoooo, today i joined MFP as well. I got a shock when i put my banana in, 89 cals !!! See I always assumed you could eat as much fruit as you wanted so its a shock to me to see how much I am overeating !!!
Portion size is also a problem for me. I am greedy Blush there are no two ways about it.

So, Im hoping this time I will do it. Would love to get some help from you ladies.

ronx · 02/04/2012 13:00

I've been doing pigtotwig for nearly three weeks. The first few days were unpleasant - I had a thumping headache, swollen glands and was knackered; but that's all part of the detox process. The book does warn you to make sure Days 5-7 are either on a weekend or when you are less busy.
Now I feel great - and never hungry.

Imnotaslimjim · 02/04/2012 13:13

Think I'll join in too, though I am cheating a little. I'm using slimmm shakes for 2 weeks to give me a kick-start. I've used them before and lost a stone in the 2 weeks. Then put my back out and was miserable so put it back on munching chocolate. I know its all about changing my eating habits, but I've found seeing the results from the shakes gives me to boost I need to stick with it

Imnotaslimjim · 02/04/2012 13:14

Oh, and I have about 7 stone to lose in total, but 3 is a good start. Aiming for about 12.5 stone (which will put me at a small 16)

Fairenuff · 02/04/2012 13:42

crikeybill I am greedy too Grin. I have managed to slowly reduce my portion sizes so now I have about half what I used to have on my plate for evening meal and I can honestly say it's enough. My stomach has definately shrunk because I feel full on smaller portions. I have trained myself to stop eating when I've had enough! Tricky, I know but I have a cup of peppermint tea after dinner (which aids digestion) and this puts a stop to eating.

crikeybill · 02/04/2012 13:53

ooh thanks fairenuff I might try that. Infact I WILL try it. I will pick some up on my way home.

My problem is I just dont stop. I can quite happily eat and eat even if I dont feel hungry. If I have started a huge bar of galaxy and start to feel sick halfway through I will keep going even though im clearly not enjoying it anymore !

I need to get a hobby too, do something of an evening rather then sit on my bum eating. If I could do something with my hands, crochet or something maybe that would help ?

HipHopOpotomus · 02/04/2012 14:04

like the peppermint tea = end of eating idea fairenuff.
I too overeat but I find sticking to 3 meals a day plus fruit or yoghurt for snacks keeps things on the level for me.

Not sure if I've lost anything yet but my belt has gone in a notch these last 3 days :)

Fairenuff · 02/04/2012 14:07

I'm like that, or at least I used to be. Now I would rather throw it in the bin than eat it. When you think about it, overeating is just using your own body as a bin for any old rubbish Sad. Once I realised that, I put the crap in the kitchen bin instead.

If it's actual food, it will keep for another meal, but often I will throw that away as well. I know it's a shameful waste of food and money and terrible for the environment but, for me, it was an interim strategy, until I could train myself to take smaller portions. Now I hardly ever eat chocolate or biscuits or cake so having them in the house doesn't bother me.

Now I take a smaller portion and tell myself, if I'm hungry later, I'll eat later, I do not need to stuff myself now. It seems to work Smile.

ssmile · 02/04/2012 20:31

I like a caramel snack a jack in the evening to give me a sweet crunch with out a calorie overload. I also weighed out everything in the first couple of weeks to readjust my portion sizes and my stomach has shrunk. I still have a sweet tooth but a crunchie bar has relative low calories compared to many chocolate bars so that's my treat after a long day with lots exercise. I struggle to eat less than 1800calories a day but I like exercising by walking lots and I'm still breastfeeding so its about 1400net.

Shall we have a weekly weigh in day?

I write my weight weekly on my kitchen calendar and my goal each week, for about 8wks in advance and its a nice feelin to see myself slowly getting to my target of 10stone. I was 13st6lb on 3rd Jan, I'm now 11st.10lbs. Over half way :)

Mummalish · 02/04/2012 21:19

Well, I'm pleased to announce that I've list 6 lbs in a week just by cutting out stuff. I haven't been starving either. Still daunted by the long way I have to go, but it has to all come off if I just keep going. So it's a waiting game now.

OP posts:
Fairenuff · 02/04/2012 21:34

Wow, well done Mummalish that's a great start. Try not to think of the long haul and just set yourself some small goals. So you just need to lose 1lb to reach that first half stone.

EmptyBotheredPocket · 03/04/2012 07:13

Hi all, I hope you don't mind if I join in! :)

I need to lose between 3-6 stone. Gulp.

My motivations are that I have pcos and would love to be able to conceive naturally one day and have regular periods. We're going camping in May, hopefully abroad in September (swimwear galore then!) and center parcs in December, and I want to look good and be healthy.

I've tried loads of diets. The best for me was slimming world where I lost 1 stone 7 in 5 weeks. So I'm hoping for the same with just eating healthier, cutting down portion size and cutting out all the rubbish and doing exercise every day.

I'm starting today and also going to do the 30 day shred this morning and at last 30 minutes on the wii fit tonight.

EmptyBotheredPocket · 03/04/2012 08:54

Oh my goodness, I've just completed day 1 of the 30 day shred. I think it's killed me Grin
