How does one stay motivated when at least 3 stone to lose?

Mummalish · 26/03/2012 18:24

I find the first 3 weeks easy, then I just want to pack it all in. I think its because it's more than just a few pounds I need to lose. I need to lose AT LEAST 3 stone, just to be in the healthy weight range.

I know it's going to take quite some time. I know there's no hurrying it, but I'm just so overwhelmed by it all.

:(

Can I join too please? I need to lose 3 stone exactly, after piling it on in pregnancy. I started C25k today and I'm really feeling it :o.

eggyblackett · 06/04/2012 13:56

That should have been Shock!

TwllBach · 06/04/2012 23:49

So today I had a yoghurt, a bowl of cereal and then a curry Blush but that's so much better than an average day, so I can't be too disappointed I suppose.

The scales are like a reward I find. I had a digital WW one and that did quarter pounds too, I think. It really helped spur me on when I lost the first three stone. Maybe I should buy some more!

DP also hasn't bought me an Easter egg this year, so that is a huge help Grin ----

I hope everyone else had a better day than me Smile

onelittlefish · 06/04/2012 23:56

About 15 years ago I needed to lose 2 1/2 stone. The thing that spurred me on initially was the thought of having a slim body and being able to wear what I liked. Whenever I dropped a dress size I would look at my body in the full length mirror - I felt so much more confident when I could actually see curves rather than chubbiness. Also my clothes fitted so much better and it is a great reward going into a shop and saying "size 14 please".

Once I lost the first 2 stone it became easier - I had made a permanent lifestyle change and that in itself was enough to keep me motivated.

Fairenuff · 09/04/2012 12:48

Right you lot, time to confess. How much chocolate have you consumed? Grin.

I'm back on the diet today but don't know how I will resist all the leftovers (dcs got loads of chocolate as usual and are more than happy to share).

I need a mantra - chocolate baaaaad, exercise gooooood - or something like that Grin

Maybe I will take a new starting weight from today. I have exactly one month and three days to lose as much as I can before a big family wedding. Half a stone maybe?

poppiesmom · 09/04/2012 14:59

TRy looking at the chocolate and imagine ... Maggots crawling over it....
I'm good at the theory... No to clever with the practice!!! hence needing to loose 2 stone...LOl

Mummalish · 09/04/2012 18:31

I swear I have not touched a thing. After my recent plateau I am determined to lose weight this week, so if I have not lost at least 2lbs this week, am going to throw an adult tantrum!

Fairenuff · 10/04/2012 11:56

Mummalish what day do you weigh in? You have seriously impressed me by resisting over Easter. I did end up eating more chocolate yesterday, dammit!! Normally, I hardly touch chocolate at all, don't even really like it that much but it was just there, looking at me, whispering, eat me, eat me . . . Grin.

I am going to resist today and tomorrow then I have friends coming to stay on Thursday so will probably go off diet then too, aaargh. Still, I have a plan B. I will start properly on Sunday and go a whole three weeks with not a single biscut, cake, glass of wine, piece of cheese, chocolate, whatever. I am determined to lose half a stone before this wedding.

If not, I will join you in that tantrum Grin.

Poppiesmum I tried the maggot thing, didn't work but now I can't get it out of my head and I do feel a bit nauseous Confused Grin

Mummalish · 10/04/2012 21:15

So today I just felt hungry, and headaches and just in the mood for something nice. I ended up eating, in addition to my regular meals: two large handfuls cashew nuts, a handful dried fruit, two fig rolls, a penguin biscuit and a large bowl if shreddies and milk. Now I know it doesn't seem like the end of the world, but I have been so good up till now, not a morsel besides my allocated calories for the day. I weigh in on Wednesdays.

I'm just in the mood for some fish n chips! But I know how it goes, with me I cheat once and it all flies out! How does one get the balance right, by having nice things but still steadily losing weight?

Can I join in, I am on week 6 having joined weight loss resources, have lost 13lbs, got 3 stone 11lbs to go. Very motivated, been at the gym walking or swimming 5 times a week. I am totally fed up tonight, want a big bag of crisps but going to bed instead :(

EmptyBotheredPocket · 11/04/2012 06:51

I've been baaaad Blush I had a few Easter eggs.

Back on it today though.

Fairenuff where did you get your scales from please?

I'm need to keep telling myself nothing tastes as good as being thin feels.

Have a great day everyone :)

Mummalish · 11/04/2012 07:49

Ok, so this morning I weighed in. Hadn't budged. Decided to have a cup of tea before throwing the tantrum.

Then I went to the loo (ahem, you know what I mean), and decided to weigh again. Lo and behold, almost 4 lbs gone in a week. WHAT???

So the little slip up last night didnt do damage. This has given me renewed energy, all I wanted to see was some continuous weight loss.

overthehillmum, well done to you, that's great loss, would love to know more about WW actually. May be interesting to mix things up a bit. I know on WW you can have some treats!

ssmile · 11/04/2012 09:25

Thats great mummalish well done.

I have treats all the time as I find if I deny myself something I just want it more, BUT I have a small portion and up my exercise so it balances out, I'm in this for a long term lifestyle change not a diet and that has really helped me this time stay focused. Over the weekend I had chocolate and pizza which I enjoyed at the time but later on it made me feel really sluggish and crap energy wise which I hadn't really realised before. So I'm back to the healthier stuff now :) I expect to maintain this week as during halfterm i find it really hard to get all my exercise in.

MsIngaFewmarbles · 11/04/2012 12:35

Hi all, day 2 of pigtotwig here. I reaaly feel like it can't possibly work as I'm so full. Would kill for a choc digestive though :)

HipHopOpotomus · 11/04/2012 14:14

Well Easter was a little crazy for me - lots of chocolate & eating out etc etc. I also got lots of walking in but walking with little kiddies doesn't really cut it does it???

Still I logged, logged, logged as best I could on MFP.

Weighed yesterday and 100 grammes on - nothing too tragic. Now I feel like I've got to shed these chocolate CRAVINGS I'm now having!!!! Where did they come from?

But back on track today. Drinking water, logging food, eating nicely, ho humm.

This is how I will do it - maintaining focus, little by little, getting back on the path if I wander off.

Hope Easter has been kind to y'all!!!

Mummalish well done on the 4 pounds ....... (Blush)

HipHopOpotomus · 11/04/2012 14:16

want a big bag of crisps but going to bed instead - sometimes that is what you've got to do though isn't it? NO more calories available & it's late - GO TO BED :)

Mummalish · 11/04/2012 20:25

Ok so want to know what I did? After a busy and trying day, u ate half a loaf of bread with butter and marmite, followed by a large Easter egg. Seriously, am I mad? Feel crap. Hope I haven't undone all my hard work.

ChoccyJules · 11/04/2012 22:36

Tomorrow is a new day so start again!

Hi All, I am joining you if that's OK, need to lose 3 stones and my weaknesses are wine and bread.

Am currently looking at longterm bootcamps for women, ie not the ones which try and break you over a weekend, but not plucked up courage to go yet! Also wondering abt WW online as have done WW in the olden days.

Thanks for a great support thread!

eightytwenty haven't had a chance to read back yet but just caught your 'SOS' Grin

So, what are you going to do to avoid temptation. Are you hungry? Have a cup of tea, coffee or glass of water before you consider eating and wait at least 20 minutes to see if you were just thirsty.

HipHopOpotomus · 12/04/2012 14:37

ah mummalish that's a bummer. Still today is a brand new shiny day. Get back on that horse lady!

I've been too "tired" too cook the last couple of night. Been eating "dinners" of easter eggs (still), toast and slices of roast lamb for dinner. Still I've been logging all I'm eating (I think) and not going too over my daily limit. I like to think that BF will take care of the little overage - but I know that is a "BAD WAY TO THINK" :)

These new scales are dodgy. This morning I weighed 2.4 kilos LESS than I did on Monday - 3 days ago. Shall I return them or persevere? Really I'd like to weigh myself weekly and ignore them the rest of the time.

Generals Tofu and broccoli - my favourite - for dinner tonight. YAY!

HipHopOpotomus · 12/04/2012 14:39

Eightytwenty give me 20 of what you fancy NOW (sergeant majors voice to distract you) - that's 20 star jumps, not 20 chocolate digestives!!!

Fairenuff · 12/04/2012 14:52

HipHop I would keep them for sure and count this as your wi day from now on.

Empty my scales are weightwatchers. I used to go but packed it in to save money. Now doing it on my own (and with you lovely lot of course Smile).

Mummalish don't do the '"I've blown it" diet!

One bad day won't affect your week if you get straight back on it. But giving up and carrying on eating crap will make you gain those pounds back and then you will feel really awful and so the cycle continues.

Why is it that weight goes on so much easier than it comes off? I haven't dared weigh myself since Easter yet. Will do a wi on Monday and use that as my starting weight, whatever it is.

I will also make a new chart and log the losses. I find that even if I gain a little or stay the same, seeing that chart with an overall downward trend really motivates me to keep trying.

Three months to go til summer holiday season, we could all be 21lbs lighter by then (one or two dress sizes). Bring it on . . .

Fairenuff · 12/04/2012 15:02

eighty I am having a mug of ww tomato soup. It's only 76 cals and tastes ok. I have it in a mug so it's like a hot drink. (If it's in a bowl I feel like I want bread with it Confused). Soup is usually a good option because it makes you feel full pretty quickly.
