Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

Well just done W2 R1! It nearly killed me!!! But really pleased with myself. Can't catch up as have to rush into town now and have a million things to do, hope everyone's feeling better...those who've been poorly.

ifink · 28/03/2012 11:21

Well done mamasunshine, it will get easier for sure. Just done wk8 run3...was my best long run by far so am stoked, roll on wk 9!

rusmum · 28/03/2012 20:32

Bit of a blip. On rest day 3 due to feeling crap and lifeless. Not sure if it's just pmt or this virus the kids have got?? Anyway back on tomorrow regardless!!!! Sad

cinnamongreyhound · 28/03/2012 22:10

Only managed 28 mins today for the first time, I think being hotter didn't help but also looking back at runkeeper I did some fast minutes so perhaps I just went off quicker than usual and couldnt finish at that pace. Was one of my hardest runs and I got a stitch too :(

cece · 28/03/2012 22:47

Hello all, just a quick check in to remark my place on this thread....

Been away with work, and only got back this evening. Despite taking my running gear I had absolutely no chance to slip away for 30 mins, so no run for 4 days now.

I have eaten far too much too so dreading my run scheduled for the morning. Think it will be a slow one with the aim to finish it. LOL

dotty2 · 29/03/2012 09:20

Welcome slotrightin - am sure you will! Go for it!

nomorecake - sorry to hear you've been poorly. Like cinnamon I've been finding the hot weather hard. Maybe if I wasn't so fat...

I was away at a conference yesterday and the day before and managed an early morning run of 28 mins enjoying the luxury of no children in the morning - but found it a real slog. Can't blame the heat as it was cool then. Why is it getting harder? I've been low-carbing and can't help feeling that's not really compatible with running, though I know people manage it. On the plus side, I've lost 4lbs in my first week so will persevere for a bit.

ManyMomentsOfMadness · 29/03/2012 10:37

Morning all :)

Well I have had a few days break - again!! No kids for a couple of hours this morning so took advantage BUT I can't run in the morning!!! Why? I assume not eaten and drunk enough. Anyway the run (supposed to be W8R3) was too tough and I gave up at 14mins Blush
Keep reminding myself I couldn't run at all at the start of the year, I will try to go out tomorrow night and try again.

Keep up the good work Grin

bigbadbarry · 29/03/2012 13:49

I did W4R5 (!) this morning - first time I have done it properly without needing extra walks. Of course it is Easter hols now for 2 weeks so I will struggle to get out - so I think I will stick w W4 now until afterwards, try to do a couple each week. And no it s not at all that I am scared of W5 with its 20 minute run! Honest guv.

cece · 29/03/2012 14:01

What a beautiful day. Went out along the canal and without realising it had done 5k! Just shows how some sunshine brightens the day. Smile

Well done jnice on the 8k - I am impressed.

mazzi2fly · 29/03/2012 20:48

Yay! I have just done my first 30min run! Week 9 run1 done and dusted. I haven't run for two weeks, and thought I'd hardly be able to do 20mins, but once I was out there, I was fine.
I ran a new route that I had measured out on google maps to be 5k, so made a nice change. I hadn't quite finished the route when the 30mins was up, so I just kept going a bit longer.

Now relaxing at home in my jammies.

dotty2 · 29/03/2012 22:36

Well done everyone - especially impressed by cece doing 5k without realising it!

rusmum · 29/03/2012 23:31

Back on it 25 min 3rd time (w7 r2) 1 week then have to have a week off si will still be awhile before I get anywhere near the end! Lol

slotrightin · 30/03/2012 09:27

Finally got off my ample backside and did W1 R1 this morning, am so unfit, think I might be on W1 for a few weeks Grin.

OrmIrian · 30/03/2012 10:00

Week 4 finished. Listened to the beginning of week 5 podcasts just to see what was in store....eeek!

Cheeseandbiscuits · 30/03/2012 11:11

Morning all. Just done w2r1. First time I've run outside, rather than on the treadmill. It was alright after the 1st 10min. Will do r2 on Sunday.

ifink · 30/03/2012 14:06

Wk 9 run 1 done this morning...but was my worst run ever, felt exhausted after 10 mins and practically limped the last 8 mins....why does that happen?? I thought I was getting better. Anyway, about to jump on plane back to the motherland ...looking forward to doing wk9 r2 through green and pleasant and no doubt cold land Grin

herecomesthsun · 30/03/2012 15:17

I am 6 weeks and 2 days post Caesarean. I am apparently recovering well (despite being an old gimmer) and bfing. Does anyone know of a good source of advice re starting running post CS?

I should perhaps mention that I have been a bit unwell in the past year- repeated chest infections - but exercise should actually help prevent these once under way. I was very careful when pregnant though! My chest doctor was rather vague when I tried to discuss the question of how much exercise with him, but said "don't overdo it to start with"...

cinnamongreyhound · 30/03/2012 19:40

Welcome herecomesthesun and sorry no idea how long.

My last run was awful ifink and I didn't even make it to 30 mins, don't know why I think you just have good and bad runs.

My app messed up today and in my warm up walk I managed 21K in 5 mins!!! Started it again and when I got to 30 mins was over 4k and felt good so kept running, in the end I managed 5.25k in 38 mins all running so I'm really chuffed!!! Such a great feeling! Went a different route so was at least 10 mins from home when I finished but so worth it!!!!!!

cinnamongreyhound · 30/03/2012 19:42

Oh and well done mazzi2fly, that great going for first 30 min run!!

ObviouslyOblivious · 30/03/2012 20:35

Did week 6 run 3 tonight, so 25 minutes. It was great, except that I did 15 minutes with a lace undone Angry as my laces are too short to double knot.

Jnice · 30/03/2012 21:32

Just popping on before this drops off active threads I'm on Blush

jchocchip · 30/03/2012 22:40

dh has finished week 8 so will start week 9 tomorrow. Trying to get ds to come with us, need to get him some trainers first.

nomorecake · 31/03/2012 01:00

well done everyone!! keep going!!
im STILL ill. argh. wish I had to strength to run. starting to miss it and feel extra wobbly.

rusmum · 31/03/2012 07:35

Going to try to do week 8 next week before I have to have a week off for eye surgery! Will I be able to pick up where I left off after a week off?

cece · 31/03/2012 10:26

cinnamon - wow, you are doing really well.

I've done another 5k this morning but still not running the whole way. Takes me 40 mins to run for 30 mins and 10 mins walk either way..
I have found a podcast that I really like. Coldplay comes on near the end of the run and it really gets me to speed up for the last 5/10 mins.

I'll see if I can find the link.
