We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

Wow cinnamon 20.5kg is fantastic. You're right the running does help, as does keeping track on MPF.

Mamasunshine · 25/03/2012 14:42

cinnamon I signed up to MFP a few months ago but haven't really used it apart from the odd day here and there. But have put everything in the last 4 days and it's def helping, I'm beginning to feel the same re food choices, esp after last night! My name is mamasonamission Smile just checked out a couple of recipes on there...yummy!

rusmum · 25/03/2012 22:30

Did it again! God it's tough though. Wouldn't have stuck at it without you girls! Thanks xx Grin

Jnice · 26/03/2012 01:05

Great work rusmum!

And welcome cheeseandbiscuits and mamasunshine good to have new blood! cheese enjoy your new hobby and don't let your DH put you off!

cinnamon well done on the weight loss!

I finished the 8km diva run in 56 mins. I walk/ran it. Runkeeper died on me so I just ran a few tracks then walked 1 until I finished. Boys and DH were there to cheer me on and DS2 ran over the finish line with me and picked up a feather boa! He wanted to swap my pink one for his white one - bless him! I gave them both to him for dress up Grin

ifink · 26/03/2012 04:30

well done rusmum!! I did did wk 8 run 2 also this morning and it was definitely my best run yet - felt tired but not ridiculously death like on finishing!

dotty2 · 26/03/2012 09:21

Well done on the 8k jnice - 56mins is not too shabby! And rusmum - you are absolutely right about the motivating power of this thread. The thought of posting on here when I got back really kept me going when it was tough. Off out later and aiming to run for 35+ mins. We'll see.

dotty2 · 26/03/2012 12:52

Phew - lovely day, but a really hard run. Set off aiming to see if I could do 40 mins but I picked a new route which involved gates, stiles and uneven ground and with the sun I found it a real slog. I stopped at 20 mins, walked for 3 mins then ran another 20 and really struggled through the last few minutes. Still - onwards and upwards. Only 2 months since the thought of one 20 minutes was totally daunting and now I can do 2 x 20 so I shouldn't be despondent.

Jnice · 26/03/2012 20:10

dotty that sounds challenging! Well done!

I think I am going to sim for 2x5k runs p/w plus a b210k on the weekend when I have more time. Also thinking about bringing oldest DS (9) on the 5k, he is keen Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 26/03/2012 20:15

It is annoying when you don't do what you set out to but still well done dotty2!

Well done Jnice 56 min doesn't sound bad to me!!!

Had an annoying evening, dh got home early (by 30 mins) so he could train before I ran (he built a gym in our garage), anyway he didn't finish until 6.15 and if I went then it mean a very late tea for my ds's and I don't enjoy my run as I'm worrying about dinner. So I said I'd run tues, thurs and sun, he then jumped down my throat that me running very other day instead of three times a week messes with his training cycle and I'd mess it up more if I didn't run today. Que massive row about it and me going now as I feel guilty! I run mon, weds, fri, sun, tues, thurs, say and have since I started, how is that difficult to work around?!? He's always been so supportive but obviously been pissed off at me all this time! We have dss on a fortnightly basis mon-tues, fri-mon so it suits me and I thought him! Grrrrrrr!!!!!! Probably won't be a good run as I'm fed up but maybe it'll give me some oomph!!

dotty2 · 26/03/2012 22:02

cinnamon - maybe he was just having a bad day. My DH sometimes sounds grumpy and resentful when really he's just tired. But hope the running improved your mood at least.

Jnice - sounds like a plan. I don't mean to sound like a crazy stalker but I googled Diva run as I thought it sounded like a good distance and hadn't heard of them. Are you in BC? Am very Envy if so - have been to Vancouver a couple of times and it's always been top of my fantasy relocation list.

OneLieIn · 26/03/2012 22:04

Ah hah! I FOUND YOU!!

I lost you, iPhone doesn't do links to new threads and I searched and gave up.....hallelujah!

cinnamongreyhound · 26/03/2012 22:25

Do you use the app or mobile site oneliein? I find the mobile site much better, using safari.

OneLieIn · 26/03/2012 23:10

I use the app and will NEVER lose you again.

I have used the fact I lost you to not run very much. Tonight I have eaten a whole bar of aero (not a small one, but a big one) so my goodness, I need to run a lot :-)
How are you all getting on?

Jnice · 27/03/2012 02:51

Hi dotty - yes! We live in Vancouver, but DH and I both from England. We have been here for 7 years, and love it. In very lucky that DH is a scientist and had an opportunity here as I would never have had the nerve to try a new country.

oneliein good to have you back!

cinnamon Grrr to your DH. We have similar issues with DH playing football and running many times a week. It's hard to have to negotiate (or row) all the time!

bubbles1510 · 27/03/2012 11:55

Hi everyone

Not manged a run at all for a week :( children poorly and a single mum so not a great excuse but there it is.

Looking round david lloyd later - I and girls are big swimmers and looking at their timetable of kids events I could x2 runs on treadmill a week whilst the girls did the activities. Sounds expensive - reckon £90 a month, however, I can stop the girls swimming lessons (can teach myself more than capable) so saving £65 and then really only costing me the extra, plus they do street dance so youngest can do that which another saving of £25 a month on her other class, but we all get to swim x2 a week (this is what I worked out) and I can use treadmill and when at their dads I can aim for much longer runs on Saturday mornings as am pretty much free those days? Also when one at rainbows/brownies the other and I can swim and have 'us' time?
We dont have extravagence or spend lots on us and kids are free till June, plus I get cooperate memebership and will try the 3 month plan see if we use it as much as I think we will?

Any advice/tips on running on a treadmill?
xxx

Cheeseandbiscuits · 27/03/2012 12:00

Urgh big fail for me. Both DD and I have rotten colds, plus DH is on nights so I've had no one to look after her. I'm planning on doing week 1 day 3 tonight

Cheeseandbiscuits · 27/03/2012 12:01

bubbles I'm a member of virgin active which I think is worth the money. I run on a treadmill too, it can be boring so make sure you have got good music.

bigbadbarry · 27/03/2012 12:14

We are david Lloyd members - I really like it, I think they are genuinely family friendly unlike some others we have tried. My two big ones live the Sunday morning kids club; my youngest loves the crèche. (my only complaint is the two don't coincide) all my runs have been on a treadmill in front of random property programmes :)

slotrightin · 27/03/2012 12:21

I "slotrightin" do hereby promise to get out of bed early in the morning and start Day 1 Run 1 of Couch to 5K, from what I have been reading am I right in saying that for first run I walk for 5 mins and then run for 2 mins and then walk for 5 mins, can't download the app to my phone.

cinnamongreyhound · 27/03/2012 12:28

Week 1 is 5m warm up walk followed by 60s run, 90s walk for total of 20 mins and 5m cool down walk Slotrightin.

OrmIrian · 27/03/2012 12:43

Wow! Week 4 is a bit nasty isn't it? They don't beleive in gradually increasing the effort do they Grin

Done it twice now - second time was a little easier.

Sadly I have left DS behind. He was never around when I wanted to go running and I'd still be doing week 2 if I was going to wait for him.

Bloody tendonitis in my left foot again. But I am ignoring it atm. Not much else I can do as it always flares up when I run.

bubbles1510 · 27/03/2012 12:58

Thanks am hopeful of joining then - seems a good way to get something for all three of us! Expensive but the plus outweighs the negative I think. Going to do the week trial starting today see how we get in and if any good sign for 3 months!
I assume you leave kids doing their activities while you work out?

Sorry no personals just getting to know names will start soon xxx

bigbadbarry · 27/03/2012 20:00

It is even more expensive once you factor in the lattes I have to reward myself after a run...

Cheeseandbiscuits · 27/03/2012 21:13

I've just signed up for race for life so I've got no excuses!

nomorecake · 28/03/2012 10:21

call off the search! i'm back Wink
well sort off.
I've had a horrible cold/virus/cough thing. still getting over it. so haven't run for a week, and don't think i'll be up to it for a least another week.
i'm just exhausted sitting up on the sofa.

Hello to newbies!
Well done on the 25mins rusmum
congratulations Jnice 8k great achievement!
