Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

bigbadbarry · 30/01/2012 09:49

I'm starting tomorrow too! I have the first pair of trainers I have bought in, um, maybe 15 years. Am a bit scared.

catinboots · 30/01/2012 09:55

What days are you doing big??

I'm doing tue, thu and sat

nomorecake · 30/01/2012 09:56

week4 run2 done.
bit disappointed that i didn't complete the middle 3 min run Angry.
but did all the 5 min runs, so not going to beat myself up about it!

ran from BIL's house, so a different route, and i'm amazed at the distance i covered. Ran past shops that i would normally drive to Blush.

2.1 miles but average speed was so sloooow about 3mph. hahaha!
oh well onwards and upwards! Smile

(too many smileys?? Hmm)

Aseaandthreestars · 30/01/2012 10:01

Morning all. Thanks for new thread Geekmum.

I had a bit of a wobble due to EDS, doing a pain management course on top of work and having to hand an essay in. I'm now in my stride on the course (and only have a couple of weeks to go). Essay is done and I've spent some time getting ahead of myself for next essay.

I ran on Saturday - I did an extra W3 - and plan to run this afternoon, either another W3 or W4R1.

To answer a couple of questions at the end of the last thread, yes, regular exercise will improve speed at which food is digested and it will help to even out PMT problems.

Also, the benefits of exercising in a group are huge, and while we're not physically training together we're getting the other benefits in buckets. Thanks to Geekmum for starting this thread and keeping it going Thanks

Panadbois · 30/01/2012 10:03

Wow, still going strong!

My foot is better but not 100%. Had promised to go see the doc this morning, but as it's a bit better, didn't bother.

Hoping by this coming weekend I can start again!

So, how is it then? Is it really very hard? Please tell me it's getting easier and its a pleasure to go out...... (tease me!)

Aseaandthreestars · 30/01/2012 10:04

Well done Nomorecake. Don't worry about speeds - you can work on them when spring is here and you'll be all fit Smile

debka · 30/01/2012 10:10

Hi newbies- well done for getting started- 5 weeks ago I was panting my way through week one, thinking I was going to properly DIE, and last night I ran wk5 r3 which is 20 minutes straight. You CAN do it, and you will get better at it quicker than you think.

nomorecake I only cover 2 miles too, my jog is seriously slow, but I reckon I can work on speed later, when the 9 weeks are up.

massacre good work on the 25 minutes, streaking ahead!!

geekmum yes huge thanks to you for keeping us all going Thanks

debka · 30/01/2012 10:10

X post asea, great minds eh on the speed Grin

ObviouslyOblivious · 30/01/2012 10:11

I'm in! Used to run a lot but stopped due to a bad back. Now I've lost lots of weight and am running again; I found week one too easy but have been laid up with a nasty cold for a few days. Will start on week two this week.

Does anyone here run with a dog? I have two but running with both of them makes me want to scream!

"ooo you peed there, I must pee there"
"ooo you sniffed there, I must sniff there"
"CAT!"

So I try to only take one wherever possible. I don't have the time to walk them and then run separately unfortunately.

bigbadbarry · 30/01/2012 10:20

cat I am hoping to do Tues on a treadmill using the gym crèche, Fri either ditto or in the evening outside (bit worried about doing it round the village, people are going to point and laugh!) then Sunday on the treadmill again.

thestringcheesemassacre · 30/01/2012 10:24

Marking place.
Good work geekmum
debka I'm pretty slow too, pace will come after 9 weeks.

noseynoonoo · 30/01/2012 10:27

I did Wk4 R3 this morning. I found the last 5 minutes tough and almost stopped. I am seriously worried about week 5 . I really don't know how I am going to do it. Has everyone who has got ot week 5 actually managed to do it? What happens if I can't go on?

On a differents note, I need to talk BRAs. I have a Shock Absorber Run Bra www.shockabsorber.co.uk/focus/run-sportsbra.html which has to fasteners on the back. I find it near impossible to do up and have managed to pull a muscle doing it - yes, my only sports injury is from try to put my bra on! Is there a knack to it?

Aseaandthreestars · 30/01/2012 10:30

Debka (and everyone concerned about speed) - yep - the important thing is to run, to get into the habit of putting on running kit and getting out. Building a habit can take a few sessions, and that's more important than increasing speed.

Bigbadbarry - no one is going to point and laugh. Anyone who looks as if they are thinking about pointing and laughing is just jealous (and stupid) (and ugly).

debka · 30/01/2012 10:31

noseynoo my bra is similar. What you need to do is put it on the wrong way round and do it up under your boobs, then shuffle it round so the cups are in the front, then put your arms and boobs in. Does that make sense?

MoneyBunny · 30/01/2012 10:43

Aseaandthreestars Well done for multi-tasking! I'm sitting with an essay now, slightly panicking as it has to be handed in by tomorrow! Luckily I work best under pressure.

Panadbois It is actually not bad at all. It's tough whilst you're doing it but you'll feel SO good afters. Also, your fitness level will improve quicker than you think. I am honestly looking forward to my next run tomorrow.

Aseaandthreestars · 30/01/2012 10:47

Moneybunny - my stomach just lurched a bit at that. Good luck with the essay, I hope you get a lovely burst of inspiration.

weblette · 30/01/2012 10:58

Morning all, day off here, start W5 tomorrow. Good luck to the new starters and keep going! to the rest Grin

trice · 30/01/2012 11:00

Ok. you convinced me -I'm in.

MadeInScotlandFromGirders · 30/01/2012 11:08

I wanted to start this today, but woke up to snow and was a bit feart i might slip on my fat ass, so will do it on wednesday if not snowing (grips not too great on my trainers).

Im doing slimming world too and im trying to lose 2 stone by May as im 30 then and do not want to be fat and 30Sad

What do you all run in? i have joggers (yoga pants) and zippy top, dont want to be cold and think if i wore a hoodie i would be cooking.

noseynoonoo · 30/01/2012 11:11

Debka - I think I had a typo. It has two fastenings on the back so I have to do one of them up whilst they are around the back.

thestringcheesemassacre · 30/01/2012 11:51

nosey i have the shock absorber with 2 clasps and I just do as Debka has said. do up at front and shuffle it round.

RebeccaMumsnet · 30/01/2012 12:32

Nosey, I have that one too, I do up the lower strap as I would normally and then twist it round, put my arms in and reach my hand behind and do up the top bit. (picture elbows pointing up into the air) Tricky but I can't do it up in the front (huge norkage) Blush

W5R1 due later and it's snowing here Shock

I'm actually excited about it.

Will post later when i'm done

GypsyMoth · 30/01/2012 12:37

Snowing!!

Week 2 r2 for me tonight!

Fallen by the wayside a bit recently, but it's 1st of feb this week so spring is getting nearer, and I need to be getting fitter....so I'm back on it

Any good songs to add to my playlist? Is there an official running song that we all have thus year? Last year we had 'xanadu'
