Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

Just back from Wk4r2 this evening. It's cold tonight! I was shivering at first, but my first run is up a mega steep hill so I soon warmed up.

It's a fantastic feeling, running for 5 minutes. My mood changes as well. After my run I feel great!

Wk4r3 on Wednesday.

cece · 30/01/2012 20:40

cinnamon and jnice - very impressed with the 20 mins run.

I can't imagine that yet. Just about struggling to the end of 3 mins here. A very nice young man looked quite alarmed this evening as I puffed my way towards him from behind! I think I must be huffing very hard. LOL He looked behind him with a startled look but at looked quite relieved to see me.... Perhaps he thought I was a rabid dog or something!

W3R2 now done. Last w3 on Weds before heading for week 4 - just heading off to peruse what it involves.

cece · 30/01/2012 20:40

well done mazzi

rusmum · 30/01/2012 20:41

Ilovetiffany choose wisely I don't get on with mine do 80 down the drain!

cocoachannel · 30/01/2012 21:37

So, only on week five but have been wondering who is thinking of doing bridge to 10km?

Jnice · 30/01/2012 21:44

Btw, I love the thread title. I made the mistake of looking in the mirror whilst doing squat jumps in the (empty) gym last night. I need a bra for my belly!

If you want something portable like the shred on your iPhone I recommend the Nike training club app - its free and has a load of coached workouts for strength training etc.

turningitaround · 30/01/2012 21:44

Marking place. Just did first ever shred. Now in bath, in shock.

ManyMomentsOfMadness · 30/01/2012 22:36

Marking place :) W4R3 tomorrow.....

spiderbabymum · 30/01/2012 23:24

Hello ladies ,
I am about to do week 4 ( Run 1 ) Tomorrow .
Bit terrified about the 5 mins runs and overall seems like a big step up from last week .
So Gratifying to see what Ive achieved .
Honestly you gotta believe me I could NOT run for 30 seconds only 4 weeks ago ...and now im jogging along for 3 mins .
I have been out in sleet and Icy paths and sub zero in the dark with a torch on my head .
I Have GOT to keep this going .
feel amazing physically

IF i do manage to get to the end wonder where to go from here ???

Jnice · 30/01/2012 23:54

spider you can do it! Just take it slow.

I am signing up for an 8k run (diva run - women only) at the end of march, so I'm thinking of continuing with a 10k program. We will see!

BettyBathroom · 31/01/2012 00:39

Marking my place - W4R3 tomorrow. Knees are still achey so beginnings are always slow which allows me to have enough energy reserves for a faster finish.

Tunes to run to - have been thinking Queen - "Don't stop me now" might work haven't tried it though - the lyrics need to inspire me - push me on a bit further.

Eminen - Lose it. Nelly Furtado Man eater. Prodigy Breathe.
Dizzy Rascal Bonkers. Run DMC - It's like that. Black Eyed Peas - Pump it.

Jnice · 31/01/2012 02:19

Week5 smashed! Woot! I went to the track without DS in stroller, kind DH came home from work early for me. But there were so many 'real' runners, see earlier posts, that I sloped off after 1 lap and ran the roads instead. I don't like concrete though.

Took my time and just kept going Grin

Next run Thursday.

betty live your track list - need to borrow that! Laura has terrible taste.

VelmaKelly · 31/01/2012 05:02

Week 5 R1 done lasst night. Haven't run for a bit as had a medical procedure that slowed me down for a couple of day.

Was a bit worried getting back to it, but it felt GREAT!!

MadeInScotlandFromGirders · 31/01/2012 06:22

OK i have an andriod phone, which app is best for c25k? I would like one that tells you when to walk/run and plays with your own music, any suggesntions would be gratefull as hope to do w1r1 tomorrow.

Thanks.

BettyBathroom · 31/01/2012 07:21

I use the app Get Running - has the same timings as the NHS C25K - aims to be fairly encouraging...tells you when you have reached the half way point and you can have your own music - I think it cost £2.50. I'm happy with it and will use it to interval train when I get a little fitter.

Jnice · 31/01/2012 07:39

betty does the app move on to other programs, like a 10k?

It sounds great! Much as I love Laura I am so sick of the music. She has started repeating some of my least favourite songs too. I particularly loathe the ones that sound like the theme tune to a gymkhana event or something.

BettyBathroom · 31/01/2012 08:13

No it doesn't move on to the 10k but you could use the "runmetre" app to set up a run with start and stop times. I used the "ActionAid 10k training" schedule which built me up slow enough for me to panic that I wasn't going to be able to do it but I built up enough speed and endurance to come in at just sub 60min and was very pleased with my result.

To be honest on long runs it's the music and the lyrics which pull me along, it's almost trance like. Other people listen to Audio books and Podcasts to take their minds off plodding.

BettyBathroom · 31/01/2012 08:25

10k schedule

tropicalmum · 31/01/2012 08:29

I've done the couch to 5k using an app on my phone. I impressed myself in that I actually completed it! However... that was over a year ago and I don't seem to be jogging now. What happened??? :(

webminx · 31/01/2012 08:34

Hi,
marking place on new thread. Back to it yesterday - second go at W1, so will count it as W1R2. Next run Wednesday evening hopefully. Are many of you alternating with weights/Shred/other on your days "off"?
