Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

Couch to 5k - the first few posts are terrible but once you warm up it's fine!

cinnamongreyhound · 06/03/2012 12:59

I like it QueenRunningGeekMum, not too long I don't think.

It's got so cold here, brrrr, hard to get up the motivation when it's cold and dark!! I am going to the dinosaur park near us tomorrow for ds1's school trip and it's supposed to pour down :(

dotty2 · 06/03/2012 13:59

Cinnamon - just spotted I didn't answer your q about what next. Build up pace and distance is the plan. And then maybe when I can run 5k in 30 mins think about doing the Bridge to 10k (I know it's not essential to go that fast, but I feel like I should be able to if I'm going to go up to the next level). Also start swimming again - I used to go once a week and it's been on hold while I've been doing this plan, so maybe run twice, swim once (or even run to swimming - need to buy a running rucksack though). Oh - and stop eating biscuits and lose two stone...

ManyMomentsOfMadness · 06/03/2012 18:23

Couch to 5k: Support for you here every step of the way :)

I am stuck at the end of wk 7 :( Illnesses, childcare, blah blah.
Will let you all know when I'm back on track again!

Good luck everyone and great to see more graduates Thanks Wine Thanks

JennyPiccolo · 06/03/2012 19:09

Felt great today after a 3 day rest-think I needed it. Did w5r1 with no problems, except my app kept jumping back and forward cos it was raining! Think I managed to keep track of times using songs.

mazzi2fly · 06/03/2012 22:21

Did Wk7 r2 this evening. DH came home early from work so I could go out. Also means he baths and put the children to bed, while I'm runnning.

I thought I was running faster this evening, but didn't cover as much ground as last time. Never mind. It's great to get out and exercise!

rusmum · 06/03/2012 22:27

I did it, week 5 run2! Didn't think I could Grin only thing is now have run 3 to do. 20 mins omg! How? Smile

jchocchip · 06/03/2012 22:38

mrchocchip did his w7r1 on his own today, I cycled 6 miles to work so no run for me today. Maybe tomorrow! Well done mrmazzi doing the bedtime slot so mazzi can run :)

ObviouslyOblivious · 06/03/2012 22:52

I really enjoyed w5r1 tonight. Looking forward to run 2 :o

cinnamongreyhound · 07/03/2012 07:13

Managed to get upto 4.65Km today so I'm increasing 100-200m each run. Dh thinks I should keep running until I hit 5K and then try to reduce the time it takes rather than keep hoping trying to increase speed and therefore distance without really being sure until the end, any thoughts?

weblette · 07/03/2012 09:16

Why not do a bit of both cinnamon?

Two sessions during the week where you do some speed work - run faster for a couple of minutes, recover then spped up again for say 20 mins in the middle of your run then have one longer run at the weekend where you try to push the distance a little bit?

W9R1 today but the weather's horrid, cold and raining. Would LOVE to put it off but am due to do some PT with a friend and won't be in a fit state to run tomorrow.

MMOM you'll get there and we'll be here to cheer you on, hope things pick up :)

QRGM love the title, not too long at all. How's the ankle doing?

QueenRunningGeekMum · 07/03/2012 10:02

Will put up new thread later - but am on phone so can't at the moment. If I'm too late can someone else do it?

Ankle not too bad but think I'm out of action for at least a week if not two. Old netball injury, has kept me from exercise for months before but doesn't seem so bad this time. Sad

Have we moved yet?

Did w8r2 tonight. Felt good. Felt fast. Went much further than ever before... got home and somehow my calculations are telling me that I am running and walking at the same pace Sad How depressing is that?

Still on the bright side (including the runs) I covered 4.6km.

Woodlands · 07/03/2012 23:03

Did W9R1 tonight and it felt good! Only did 3.88km (not including the walks) so still a bit to go to get to 5k. I even sprinted for the last minute.

nomorecake · 08/03/2012 00:15

cece I had a similar thing today. felt really good, stronger and faster. but no, its seems I was faster the other night when I was exhausted. Confused

woodlands I think my actual run may not be as far as yours! well done.. only 2 to go!

I ran 9r2 to my own music. change of music was good, but maybe, in hindsight, a bit too fast.

some guy was saying something, possibly having a whinge as I went by, 'something-something-something-runners- something'

I thought yeah, whatever, water off a duck back BUT, he called me a runner!!!! Grin

weblette · 08/03/2012 09:49

I'm swithering about whether to get the new thread up or to leave it for QRGM as it's her baby really.

W9R1 yesterday. Laura cut out after 10 mins so I had to do it all by myself - ran 5.2k through the rain and mud and it was ace :) Feel rather disloyal but running with no music really made me focus on my breathing and footfall. So maybe one 'nothing' session a week is a good idea.

Grin Nomorecake see it's official now, you are a runner! And you're one run away from joining the grad roll of honour!

Maybe ignore the calculations for a bit cece if they're getting you down. You know how well you've done, the speed will come eventually :)

How's the knee Rebecca? We would also like some Goldie gossip please!

Woodlands when are you out next?

dotty2 · 08/03/2012 12:14

Well, while you swither, weblette, I'll drop by with an update. Just did my first postgrad run. I was absolutely determined to get over 5k, so kept running for 37 minutes, and made it to 5.8k. Very pleased with myself. Would have been slightly quicker if someone hadn't stopped me to ask for directions. I am too polite to have ignored her but I was rather short - particularly as she was dithering around with a load of 'I'm so sorry to interrupt you when you're running' instead of getting to the point. Ahem. Rant over.

Pondering buying the paid-for Runtastic, as I was enjoying the audio alerts on the free version until they cut out at 2k.

PILs staying at the weekend, so hoping to fit in a run with DH and enjoy the sensation of not slowing him down toooo much.

FunnysInTheGarden · 08/03/2012 13:12

Hello, I keep loosing you all for some reason. Supposed to be doing w7 r1 today but suspect I might postpone until next week. May just do a shorter run instead, I'm always too tired by Thursday

JennyPiccolo · 08/03/2012 13:35

W5r2 today, felt pretty good. Sprinted the last minute cos I was feeling awesome.

bigbadbarry · 08/03/2012 13:40

W3R4 today - added an extra because I had a bit of a break. All you graduates! 3 minutes still feels like it might kill me. I think it's up to 5 next week isn't it...so far I have done it without a podcast because sports direct took 6 weeks to send me a set of running headphones (grr) I'm on the treadmill so it is easy enough to do timings without. It all gets a bit more mix and match next week so I am looking forward to becoming acquainted with the famous Laura :) I'll miss homes under the hammer though!

arabellacaterpillar · 08/03/2012 18:05

Hello all did w9r2 last night after a weeks rest due to illness and it felt really good, I thought I would really struggle so was pleased.
I managed to cover 6.05km in the 40 mins so happy happy!

dotty2 · 08/03/2012 19:57

Hey, well done everyone - sounds like there's great progress at all stages of the plan. And bigbadbarry - that's the thing about the C25K - it's only a month and a bit since I thought 3 minutes would kill me too and now I can do 30+. It's so satisfying to see so much improvement in so little time (if only I could lose weight as quickly as I appear to be able to get fitter. Sigh.)
