Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

Marking my place. Run tomorrow I think, but a very busy weekend planned I'm hoping the stuff we have to do is compatible with me getting a couple of runs in, if not the next week it will be :)

cinnamongreyhound · 30/01/2012 12:55

I do obviouslyoblivious and it drives me mad but in the same that I don't have the time to do both. She's pretty much finished peeing and pooing by the end of the 5 min warm up but she's quite lazy and very nervy so freaks out at me running and regularly tries to go home!

I'm going out to do W5R3 tonight, wish me luck!! Found the first 8 mins of R2 so feeling ok about it.

nomorecake · 30/01/2012 13:04

noseynoonoo- i'm worried about w5 too, finding w4 difficult. but i think i will move on to w5 and just try my best and maybe repeat the runs until i can do them.

i'm not too worried about the speed. just want to keep going.
i'm more tortoise than hare!!

TheEpilator · 30/01/2012 13:04

Just getting back into it after being out with an injury in the Autumn. Got to week 4 last time (with a few repeated sessions) but I'm really struggling this time. Anyone got any wise words to keep going when even 3 minutes feels like a lifetime?

My motivational tunes (when I'm not listening to the lovely Laura and her incredibly lame soundtrack) include Lady Gaga - Edge of Glory and the Kelly Clarkson one (although I have Glee cover-version Blush ) My Life would suck without you.

nomorecake · 30/01/2012 13:06

good luck cinnamon! you can do it!

GypsyMoth · 30/01/2012 13:07

Thanks for the tunes!

Little tip I picked up last year was to take some painkillers before you go for your run, eases niggly aches making it easier.

I find a bath as soon as I get back is best for me. Sometimes one if my helpful teens has one run ready for when I get back ( usually they want something in return)

TheEpilator · 30/01/2012 13:16

oooh someone running me a bath - there's a plan Smile

Of course DH will expect the same treatment every time he gets in from the gym, but it may be worth it to know a warm bubbly bath awaits me after my scant half hour of barely jogging punishing fitness regime!

strawberrypie · 30/01/2012 14:33

Just marking place, did buggy fit this morning and it was hard! Looking forward to starting week 2 tomorrow- might go along the canal. I am in awe of all you at week 5+, do you feel like proper runners?

jchocchip · 30/01/2012 16:44

Checking in! My moment of feeling like a proper runner was on Thursday when I did the two 8 minute runs of week 5 run 2 and survived! Just back from week 6 run 1 which I found hard - dh didn't want to run by the river in the gloopy mud so we stuck to the lane which has a hill!

Bought a heart rate monitor from Aldi today, because it was cheap. It seems to work but the numbers for calories burned are much higher than I thought they should be. I may go to the gym and compare it with the machines sometime...

ReduceRecycleRegift · 30/01/2012 16:49

app downloaded, but wussed out of D1 today because of the cold! Lame I know I WILL join you properly this week!

ReduceRecycleRegift · 30/01/2012 16:54

just checked out the link, the last run I did was 2 mins walking 3 mins running for 20 mins, but felt that was too much walking. Should I go "back" to week one of C-5k or start somewhere in the middle (where?)

yehudiwho · 30/01/2012 16:59

.marking place , sitting in my running gear, waiting to go out for week 5 run3. Determined to keep to every other day this week..

QueenRunningGeekMum · 30/01/2012 17:00

Welcome to all the newbies! All I can say as motivation is that during the first week I couldn't even finish all the 60s 'runs' (feet barely left the pavement!) and absolutely collapsed when I got home. Now I'm into w5 (run 2 tomorrow) and can do the 5 minutes runs and recover quickly afterwards! I have improved so much in such a short time, it really is worth keeping going and post your runs on here as it helps keep you motivated.

It's really only been since week 4 that I've truly looked forward to running (although very slow!) so even if you don't enjoy it, just keep on going!

As for speed, I look at it like learning to drive - you always go slowly at first, until you gain skills and confidence to go faster. We are all learning (or relearning) to run on this thread so take your time but keep practising your new skill Smile

Can someone link to the motivational videos again please?

Reduce depends on how fit you are. Perhaps give week 2 a go but don't push yourself - the main reason people drop out is because they push themselves too hard, and then get injured or demotivated when they can't do it. The slow build up is purposeful.

Evening all. I've just done a week 3 run again. I've got a week off work, so I'm going to try and run every other day to build the habit, then I'll tackle week 4. I feel like I'm treading water a bit, but I still covered 5 k in 45 minutes

cinnamongreyhound · 30/01/2012 18:11

Well I've done it!! Completed W5R3!! I ran for 20 mins Grin, came close to crying when I finished. The first 10 mins were comfortable and last two were soooooo hard I thought I might stop but mind over matter got me there. Kept remembering how good it feels to have done it and how disappointed I'd be to stop before the end and that got me through. Didn't go further than Saturday though which was a bit disappointing :(

QueenRunningGeekMum · 30/01/2012 18:29

Oh Cinnamon that's great news, well done you! Grin

thestringcheesemassacre · 30/01/2012 18:38

cinnamon brilliant work. Keep it up!

thederkinsdame · 30/01/2012 19:05

Marking place. I'm still standing. Still on wk1 struggled round in the cold yesterday but the runs are getting easier. Grin ive got the start of a cold whicch doesn't help, spill see how I feel tomorrow. Thank you for all the support, good luck to all the newbies and well done cinammon very impressive!

trice · 30/01/2012 19:15

Done my first session. I quite enjoyed it. I have not run for over ten years and this was my first try listening to a soundtrack. I think I might do each week twice as I have struggled to progress in the past.
Now I need to get the app on my phone.

QueenRunningGeekMum · 30/01/2012 20:03

Well done Trice, see how you go with the runs, you might not have to repeat whole weeks but just do an extra run iykwim. Basically as soon as you can 'run' all the running bits, no matter how slowly, you can go onto the following week.

Thederkins well done, every time you find it easier it means you're getting fitter! Grin good to know it's working!

Jnice · 30/01/2012 20:04

Found you!

So ODS is sick today which meant I missed fit4two - so I will run later when DH is home which means I will sync up with cinnamon again (I think). You can't leave me behind! Wk5r3 here I come!
