Who's in for healthy weight loss in 2012?

I'm sat here piling on the pounds over Christmas, not quite having lost those I gained last year!

It's got to the point where it's now or never - DH and I are TTC #2, so I have to get to a healthy weight to give us the best possible chance, which is motivation in itself. I need to lose about half a stone to get into my healthy weight range, but ideally would like to lose another stone on top of that.

I've half-arsedly tried Weight Watchers and Paul McKenna over the last year, and if I gave it a decent shot, either of those would help. The main thing I'm going to do to kick start the weight loss though, is make a new year's resolution to cut right back on junk food, which is my weakness. Basically, if it's not something nutritious, or if there's a healthier alternative, I'm going to try to give it a miss!

Having cancelled my gym membership last year, I joined a running club instead and will be going out with them once a week, and once with my DM. I have a kettlebell and DVD at home, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kettlercise-Just-Women-PLUS-Kettlebell/dp/B0053YNSDY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325074972&sr=8-1 this one, and will continue to use that twice a week. I'll also be going to a PAYG spinning class once a week, and maybe the odd Kettlercise class to vary the routine on the DVD a bit.

So, anybody interested in joining me? I'm not sure whether to go for it immediately from 1st January, or to wait until the 3rd (I have parties to go to on Sunday and Monday, so might be setting myself up for failure). That said, it would be a real buzz to manage a couple of social occasions straight away - they're usually another downfall for me!

Well done SparkySparrow Smile
It feels good, right? Imagine how annoyed we would have been if we'd given in.

Hello D0G. Congratulations. I'm sure you can do it.

Flojo1979 · 04/01/2012 20:57

That Android App isnt free anymore SparkySparrow so i've just got an app for calculating points.
Was doing good today, til i put the kids to bed then as usually it all went horribly wrong, 3 peanuts butter sandwichs, 5 chocolate digestives and a jammie dodger later Xmas Shock I've come upstairs before I carry on all night. Quite a few points over my WW daily allowance now Xmas Sad.
On a plus point, there is no bread left or choc digestives and I'm not planning on getting anymore and I did do gym class today and again tomorrow.

mrspepperpotty · 04/01/2012 20:57

Anyone else's DH annoyingly slender? Or is that just mine?

Congratulations D0G! I lost weight on Atkins just before my wedding... never again! I hated it!

Mrspp Mine is to, and considering the amount he eats he should be about 20st! Bastard! Envy

The calculator is good to Flojo. Once you get used to the foods you eat it gets easier! And chuck out the jammie dodgers!!!!!

Flojo1979 · 04/01/2012 21:18

I got the jammie dodgers for the kids, then i keep pinching them, poor kids!

Flojo1979 · 04/01/2012 21:19

Tomorrow night my kids r having jammie dodgers for their tea til they r all gone! then I'll tell them thats it til next yr, xmas is over, its back to boxes of raisins for u guys!

SparkySparrow · 04/01/2012 21:24

lisa Iv'e managed to go without bread for 3 days.
Its just getting out if the habit of using it. I.e. Instead of a tuna sandwich, have a tuna salad, have ryvita with soup instead etc. I actually don't miss it as much as I thought I would after a few days.

SparkySparrow · 04/01/2012 21:27

You sound a lot like me Flojo. If its there, you'll eat it, even if it is the kids! Grin
Try buying those individual packets if you have to buy them, then there's nit a open packet lying around!

mrspepperpotty · 04/01/2012 21:42

I'm the same. I can resist buying naughty stuff, but if it's in the house it just calls to me! Is there a type of biscuits your kids like but you don't?

Flojo1979 · 04/01/2012 21:57

Yes MrsPP, i usually buy malted milk cos i cant stand them, but get a few nicer ones in every now n then especially over xmas and now i'm eating them to get rid of them! And the bread was going stale so i had to eat that!
So so hungry now. I usually eat all that and then some. So even tho it seems like a complete failure its still a step in the right direction.
I've taken up cross stitching today, to keep my hands busy while corrie is on, soap time is usually spent sat on sofa eating non stop for the 2 hrs.

putyourhatonsweetie · 04/01/2012 22:05

hi there, thanks Mrspepperpotty its the ideas I need, can make/ find the recipes myself. Yep I have an annoyingly slender dh. he is so slim and eats a revolting amount. he gets a tiny tummy from cakes in the office but only has to ignore them for a week and its gone again. I hate him. obviously.

TartyMcFarty · 05/01/2012 08:18

Well, after a bit of a duff day yesterday (except a 40 min run!) I have chucked out all rubbish and am using the WW plan alongside low GI. Thursday is my WI. I've already lost nearly 2lb of the Christmas gain, so feel motivated today.

I would be the nerd at the gym clas shouting 'woah! Yeah!' Blush

putyourhatonsweetie · 05/01/2012 08:58

good for you tartymcfarty, always good to see some early progress helps keep you going.

woahthere · 05/01/2012 09:28

whoop whoop tarty! and whoop whoop here too! 2lbs off for me already. Hopefullymost of that Christmas gain will whiz off and then we can get on with losing the rest! I will be going for a 3 mile run later...hope I dont get blown away!

Hathall · 05/01/2012 09:28

My dh isn't overweight but has a bit of a belly at the moment so he said he was going to join in with my diet but I've seen little evidence of it so far Hmm

Thats a good start Tarty. I've lost the same. I really should start exercising to speed things up a bit.

Lisa123 I used to (and I think I'll do it again) buy frozen veg and just have some cooked sweetcorn, green beans, any veg really on my plate with whatever I'd made for the family meal.

SparkySparrow · 05/01/2012 11:42

Well done Tarty and woahthere ! :)

Feeling a bit shit today, woke up with a stinking cold and a headache. :(
Have walked to sainsbo's with ds and stocked up on fruit, salad stuff's, and Lemsip!

Have had my porridge, will have jacket pots with tuna and salad for tea. Nice and simple because I'm in that 'I can't be bothered' mood. Hopefully will feel better later because I wanted to try out my Zumba wii. That should be a laugh, esp as ds won't be able to resist joining in! Grin

lisad123 · 05/01/2012 12:56

ok so far today, i have had the tinest amount of cereal (5 syns!), an apple, carrot sticks, toast with no butter, baked beans, scrambled eggs and a hash brown (1.5syns). 2 cups of tea and a large glass of water.
I hope im doing these syms right.

TartyMcFarty · 05/01/2012 13:09

Hope you're feeling better soon sparky. I've been better too.

So far I've had All-Bran, a banana, some grapes, NCG Morrocan Tagine soup (think chickpeas and lentils!) and a piece of Burgen bread. That's 13 out of 26 of my WW points, so plenty left for tea.

Mollyfloss · 05/01/2012 13:20

Hi!

Hope you don't mind if I join. I had a DD3 in August and most of the weight is actually gone but need a bit of a push for the last few pounds especially because I have a few days holiday in the sun in exactly 5 wks (without the kids). I'd like to be bikini ready (or swimsuit at least as my belly is in a terrible state after having 3 kids in three and a half years). Has anyone here done the Dukan diet? Is it any good?

SparkySparrow · 05/01/2012 13:53

I have just discovered Ryvita with cracked black pepper! 1 WW propoint each. Lovely with a bit of Philidelphia (light). Nice if you don't like reg cardboard Ryvita that much!

Thanks Tarty hope you do to!

Hi Mollyfloss :)

LaFilleSurLePont · 05/01/2012 14:29

I just joined Slimming World this morning. I need to lose a few stones. I've never joined a slimming class before, but I'm determined to lose weight.

I have PCOS which makes it particuarly difficult, and particuarly important,TTC,that I lose weight.

My meals are generally healthy enough, lean meat, lots of veg,but I eat way too many unhealthy snacks and don't exercise enough. Also portion sizes tend to be a bit bigger than they should be.

I'm set on changing my life, and started late last year with my teeth, after avoiding the dentist for 5 years,so my teeth have all been fixed, next step is weight loss.

Vicky08 · 05/01/2012 15:20

Hi all so far so good today. For breakfast I had a sliced banana, some raspberries and fat free yogurt poured over them, it was lovely. For lunch a kind of cous cous salad thing which has really filled me up, I'll have to think of more things to do with cous cous and for dinner it'll be something very light and very simple, maybe a prawn salad.

mrspepperpotty some of those meals sound lovely, how do you do the mushrooms and shallots on toast? As it sounds or are there any secret ingredients in there? I love simple, easy food.

woahthere I was also planning on going low carb but it's just too hard, think I'll also do as you've said Hathall and have a look at the SW website, my mum and sister lost a lot of weight with them before.

Good luck lisad123 let us know how it went.

Congratulations on your upcomoing wedding D0G, I'm sure you'll look lovely on your big day, I know my wedding was the biggest motivation I've ever had to loose weight and get in shape.
