Who's in for healthy weight loss in 2012?

TartyMcFalalalalalalalalarty · 28/12/2011 12:27

I'm sat here piling on the pounds over Christmas, not quite having lost those I gained last year!

It's got to the point where it's now or never - DH and I are TTC #2, so I have to get to a healthy weight to give us the best possible chance, which is motivation in itself. I need to lose about half a stone to get into my healthy weight range, but ideally would like to lose another stone on top of that.

I've half-arsedly tried Weight Watchers and Paul McKenna over the last year, and if I gave it a decent shot, either of those would help. The main thing I'm going to do to kick start the weight loss though, is make a new year's resolution to cut right back on junk food, which is my weakness. Basically, if it's not something nutritious, or if there's a healthier alternative, I'm going to try to give it a miss!

Having cancelled my gym membership last year, I joined a running club instead and will be going out with them once a week, and once with my DM. I have a kettlebell and DVD at home, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kettlercise-Just-Women-PLUS-Kettlebell/dp/B0053YNSDY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325074972&sr=8-1 this one, and will continue to use that twice a week. I'll also be going to a PAYG spinning class once a week, and maybe the odd Kettlercise class to vary the routine on the DVD a bit.

So, anybody interested in joining me? I'm not sure whether to go for it immediately from 1st January, or to wait until the 3rd (I have parties to go to on Sunday and Monday, so might be setting myself up for failure). That said, it would be a real buzz to manage a couple of social occasions straight away - they're usually another downfall for me!

Forgot to say well done to everyone that has already lost some weight, my weighing in day is on Sunday so I'll know then.

TartyMcFarty · 05/01/2012 15:40

LaFille, I have PCOS and am ttc too - that's my main motivation.

SparkySparrow · 05/01/2012 15:46

So, I've dragged myself off the sofa and given the Zumba a go. Bloody knackering, but good fun. Could only do 2 routines before I had to give up, but at least it gave me a idea of what to expect when I start doing it properly once I feel better. Would also recommend for those who have young dc around, my ds loved it and wanted to carry on. much more interesting for him than my usual boring exercise dvd's!

It sound's like your doing really well Vicky. Iv'e never had cous cous before, will have to try it!

Right, I'm going to get my arse of MN too much time on here today! , have another Lemsip, and do some cleaning. Should burn a few calories! :)

buttonmoon78 · 05/01/2012 17:45

Hello everyone. Can I join please?

I'm 33 and 14stone 5lb at 5'6" so my BMI is not far off my age.

I really really need to lose some weight as it's really getting to me but I have zero motivation. As in I've just eaten a bag of crisps while reading this Blush

I'm hoping that company will help!

buttonmoon78 · 05/01/2012 17:52

What a loser. Eating crisps while reading about being good.

I'm such an idiot.

But determined not to be an idiot any more. After all, tomorrow is another day (and there's the rest of today too!)

NewYearsRevolution · 05/01/2012 18:10

Button - of course you can join! And repeat after me "I am not a loser. I am just someone who needs to change my eating habits."

I have had a reasonably good day. Now I need to get through my risk points - kids' dinner and after tea snacks!

Slimming · 05/01/2012 19:16

I joined slimming world this time last year and have lost over 5 stone. I have been so amazed by how easy it is to loose weight with slimming world that I have trained to become a consultant myself and my new group opens on Lambeth Walk SE116DU next week. I have always enjoyed exercising and have worked out a lot but only lost weight once I accepted the help and support from my group. Good luck to all of you yummy mummies out there, you can do it. 'If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got'.

TartyMcFarty · 05/01/2012 20:44

Well low GI isn't really doing it for me - I was starving when I got home. I thought it was supposed to release energy slowly to help you feel fuller for longer. Harumph.

Hathall · 05/01/2012 20:46

I wasn't as good as I was yesterday today. I ate healthy meals all day until work stressed me out and I ate 4 biscuits. I really need to learn how to deal with stress without eating. I think I distract myself from stress or give myself some 'thinking' time by eating? I'm not sure why but it just seems an automatic thing for me.

Buttonmoon start writing down everything you eat. Use a site like www.myfitnesspal.com/ to help.

Wow everyone is doing so good, well done guys!!
Sparky I'm gonna finally open my Zumba Wii tomorrow eve and give it a go, I did a gym class today and my legs r killing so didnt want to overdo it on my first wk.
My WW points arent doing well tho, I got one of those tesco prepacked prawn layer salads and only after i ate it I worked out the points and it was 12! So I've gone out and bought all my own salad bits to get organised and make myself. I also ate a full malt loaf throughout the day, a slice for breakfast, one mid morning, one at lunch and so on and then found out it was 18 points! So thats me over before I'd even cooked dinner!
On a plus side tho, i havent eaten anything since, like NY after tea snacks are the worse! My tummy is rumbling now!
But I'm determined to ignore it.
I was surprised in WW how many points cous cous was, i always thought it was healthy but its quite high.

drywhiteplease · 05/01/2012 21:09

Am thinking of trying the Dukan diet. but only after I have finished all the Christmas cake and sherry!
Have never followed a proper diet before but this one looks ok as I love meat and savoury things.
Took up Zumba (great fun...really recommend it)three months ago and have been doing it twice a week and two other classes too but haven't seen any change so think I need to diet too.
Will start Mon 9th when children are back at school.
Good luck everyone.

SparkySparrow · 05/01/2012 21:12

Flojo I thought it was great. Even when you can't get the routines your still dancing around!

Have you tried working out your meals/snacks the day before. That way you know what you can have and what you cant. That's what I'm having to do because otherwise I think I would end up using all my points before dinner.

If you feel like you getting peckish, try drinking a glass of water, or brushing you teeth! It works!

Flojo1979 · 05/01/2012 21:14

U must be quite active to start with dry if all that exercise aint shifting any, either that or there isnt much to shift!

Flojo1979 · 05/01/2012 21:17

Thanks Sparky I'll use the wkend to get a meal plan together and work out the points then I'll know if I'm going over or if i have loads spare to use elsewhere to shift more lbs before wednesday WI

drywhiteplease · 05/01/2012 21:34

V kind flojo but not really. Need to shift a stone really.Am 45 and refuse to give in To age.
tartyMc have you thought of doing Dukan with me? I have not started yet but in the first phase you can eat as much of certain proteins as you want...I am hoping that will mean I won't be too hungry (but v constipated!)starting Mon.
PS can someone tell me how to do old on an iPad?

mrspepperpotty · 05/01/2012 22:39

Hi all

Vicky08 it's from Gordon Ramsay's Fast Food. You saute the shallots with garlic and a little bit of sugar (think that's OK!) to caramelise them, then add portabello mushrooms, then red wine / sherry vinegar. Delicious on farmhouse style bread (sorry to the people doing low carbs!).

Tarty, I tend to feel starving for the first day or 2 of a diet (even if I'm eating filling food), then my body seems to adapt to the new regime. So hang in there!

themagicno4 · 05/01/2012 23:47

Hi, this is really motivational, just what I need. Hope to join in.
I've got a pretty terrible chocolate habit, and my weight has ballooned recently. I'm hoping to shift 2 stone, and the first by Easter ( no choc eggs for me this year).

My chocolate habit breaker CD slimpod arrived today so i need to listen to that for 21 days, hopefully the suggestion to stop munching and obsessing will work. Fingers crossed.
Has anyone used one before.
I'll let you know how it goes.

As well as that I am overhauling the family diet, the kids are fine weight wise but there is an over reliance on biscuits to cheer us up, celebrate, snack on.... You name it.
I've ordered some scales so I can record better, being using machine in boots but too difficult to get there every week.

Good luck everyone.

putyourhatonsweetie · 06/01/2012 00:13

well done evryone this is really helping me , especially all the lovely food ideas. A kilo gone here too! woohooooooo.

ecoevolution · 06/01/2012 07:16

I really need to join all of you inspiring ladies, if you'll have me.
I've just fallen off the diet wagon after only 3 days, Blush not a great success. My current excuse? A stinking cold which doesn't seem to want to shift.

But realistically failure is not an option as I am at least 5 st overweight and have started to develop osteoarthritis in my joints, so some major weight lose would really help. As well as helping me to keep up with my DD who needs to be encouraged to be more active as well.

I'd better go and buy some scale then.

I will be disciplined and start again today, so here goes to a healthier future, good luck everyone :)

VivaLeBeaver · 06/01/2012 08:31

I think yesterday went OKish but not great.

Weetabix for breakfast.
Rock road mid morning. Blush
Soup for lunch. Pears
Katsu curry for dinner, ready meal (440 cals)
Then three crackers with some brie on them in the evening.

Walked dog for over an hour and did 30 day shred.

lisad123 · 06/01/2012 09:27

Yesterday was ok but omg the chocolate cravings and headaches are hell!!
So far today I have had a yoghurt and 2 Slices of toast with honey. Lunch is quorn veg and noddles. Saving my syns for takeaway chow mien tonight. First have Zumba class though Confused

putyourhatonsweetie · 06/01/2012 10:21

arrrrggggh playdate from hell (I exaggerate, obviously) led me to the snack tray meant for the children. Normally I am a shocker for this leading to at least a couple of days off the wagon but I am going to be good and just but extra effort into my shred....

woahthere · 06/01/2012 10:27

why have you got headache lisad? just wondering if it is to do with dieting because i have had a headache for 3 days now, I wondered whether it was weather or change in diet. Hope it feels better soon. Yesterday I had 1 egg and 2 pieces of bacon for breakfast, leek, courgette and celery with some chicken in a broth for my lunch and celariac and sweet potato mash with cabbage and chicken for my tea, then raspberries and a little cream for pudding. I snacked on tomatoes, oranges and grapes. 1 slip up was 2 coconut biscuits at 55 cals each but the rest of my day I think was really healthy...still no chocolate or alcohol! Also did 3 3/4 mile run rather than 3...there was a bit of walking thrown in but I was pleased with myself anyway, going to go again on Sunday and try and get at least to 4 miles with a bit less walking. Hope you enjoy zumba...I LOVE zumba! When I firsted started it used to be exhausting and I would be dripping with sweat but after 6 months of doing it I would do an hour and then want to go running after so your body does get used to it.
Ive been a bit naughty this morningand had a bacon sandwich but I think thats because of the running, I always feel ravenous the day after and thats normal I would think.

WhatToDoWithLife · 06/01/2012 11:34

After being so good on Wednesday and Yesterday I decided to treat myself with a G&T - then saw the calories in basic tonic water :(

Could have had a latte instead

But doing realtively well, and know I'll be out doing more vigourous excercise at the weekend, so can earn a few moer calories in my favour.

One thing I did want to ask, I'm using my fitness pal, which without excercise only allows for 1200 Calories a day (the more excercise you do the more you're allowed), to me that seems really quite low, am I just being unrealistic (I have never dieted before)
