Who's in for healthy weight loss in 2012?

I'm sat here piling on the pounds over Christmas, not quite having lost those I gained last year!

It's got to the point where it's now or never - DH and I are TTC #2, so I have to get to a healthy weight to give us the best possible chance, which is motivation in itself. I need to lose about half a stone to get into my healthy weight range, but ideally would like to lose another stone on top of that.

I've half-arsedly tried Weight Watchers and Paul McKenna over the last year, and if I gave it a decent shot, either of those would help. The main thing I'm going to do to kick start the weight loss though, is make a new year's resolution to cut right back on junk food, which is my weakness. Basically, if it's not something nutritious, or if there's a healthier alternative, I'm going to try to give it a miss!

Having cancelled my gym membership last year, I joined a running club instead and will be going out with them once a week, and once with my DM. I have a kettlebell and DVD at home, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kettlercise-Just-Women-PLUS-Kettlebell/dp/B0053YNSDY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325074972&sr=8-1 this one, and will continue to use that twice a week. I'll also be going to a PAYG spinning class once a week, and maybe the odd Kettlercise class to vary the routine on the DVD a bit.

So, anybody interested in joining me? I'm not sure whether to go for it immediately from 1st January, or to wait until the 3rd (I have parties to go to on Sunday and Monday, so might be setting myself up for failure). That said, it would be a real buzz to manage a couple of social occasions straight away - they're usually another downfall for me!

Grin I don't like peas!

Have you got the folder with all the info in? It should explain everything in there. I'm still trying to get my head round it but have the ultimate WW app on my android which is making life a lot easier with counting points etc. There's a place where you can add favourites. I've put in most of the foods I like then its easy to add them to my diary. It counts for me! Also has a WW calculator!

fit2drop · 04/01/2012 01:18

Can I join , I lost 3 stone in 2009 but then stopped smoking and piled it all back. I am devastated at my lack of control re food. I have also been diagnosed with coeliac and have totally ignored the fact since diagnosis. Like burying my head will make it go away. However with various other ailments I feel sure that the coeliac is to blame . ie chronic aneamia, osteoporosis and general lathargy.

When I dieted before in 2009 (pre diagnosis) I realise now that I was actually quite energised and had a general feeling of well being . I am wondering if this is because no bread /no fish and chips/biscuits, pastries etc also helped with the undiagnosed coeliac.

I have been looking at the Harcombe diet and think maybe with a littel adapting that may well be the answer. The diet I went on in 2009 although I ahieved a good weight loss it was a very extreme diet and this time I want one I can live with iykwim, more a life long/style healthy eating plan .

Has anyone on here had any dealings with needing to loose weight with the added nusiance of coeliac disease.

Is there a better plan I could follow?
I cannot excercise too much as due to the osteoporosis and osteoarthritis my mobility is crap at best and crappier than a crap thing on a crap day at worst.

I NEED HELP Blush and a place to vent

putyourhatonsweetie · 04/01/2012 05:09

Will check out the shepherdess pie and I make a nice pumpkin chilli. Thanks!

putyourhatonsweetie · 04/01/2012 05:12

jump in fit2drop. I have no experience of coeliac but from memory I think Gillian McKeith's books cut out a lot of the stuff you wouldn't be able to have. you would just need to filter through all of the other stuff as I think its a bit extreme!

good luck

TartyMcFarty · 04/01/2012 07:03

Sparky, did you find that app on Android market or the WW site?

SparkySparrow · 04/01/2012 09:52

Tarty It was on the android market. Its called The ultimate wweightwatcher diary, and its free! :)

Hathall · 04/01/2012 10:07

Good start for me so far Smile

I had 3 healthy meals yesterday and the only carbs I had was a small bit of rice with some chicken curry for dinner, a tablespoon of chickpeas with my tuna salad and an apple for a snack.
I was starving yesterday evening and I'm so pleased I didn't cave in.

My bmi is 29. My goal is to get to 25 which means losing about 1 st 9lb.
My first goal is to lose 7lbs as soon as possible!

WhatToDoWithLife · 04/01/2012 10:50

Did really well yesterday, only going 20 cal over what myfitnesspal said I should have to drop my required weight.

Got home and DP had bought a box of M&S Choc biscuits and proceded to eat them all evening after dinner, gave in and had 2, but feel I've blown all my good work :(

Walking 4 bouts of 15 minutes at quite a fast pace, so hoping that burns some weight (but does that small ammount really make any difference?) Must basically get onto my Bicycle again, and put in some decent milage if I want to shift this.

VivaLeBeaver · 04/01/2012 11:31

Right have started today. Had oatsosimple for breakfast and a cup of tea.

Took the dog for a brisk walk and we were out for 1hour, 40 mins. Come home and had a chocolate brownie. Whoops. Last one though so no more temptation.

Will be having carrot soup with a slice of onion bread for lunch. Then will do 30 day shred this afternoon.

I haven't weighed myself yet, must do that tomorrow.

mrspepperpotty · 04/01/2012 13:41

Don't worry whattodowithlife, 2 biscuits won't hurt. At least you didn't say "well today's ruined now anyway" and eat loads!

Putyourhatonsweetie, my veg stand-bys are stir fry veg with rice or noodles, veg curry, mushroom risotto, tomato and courgette baked risotto, leek/potato/spinach frittata, spaghetti primavera, mushrooms and shallots on toast (sounds simple but is delicious!) - let me know if you want the recipes for any of those. Planning to try roasted veg fajitas this week.

fit2drop, I have a very close friend with a coeliac son, let me know if you'd like me to ask her anything? I think the free-from ranges in most major supermarkets are much improved these days.

I'm feeling really pleased with my healthy week so far :)

woahthere · 04/01/2012 13:56

plucked up the courage and weighed myself this morning....have put on 7lb over Christmas which is quite vile really. Have been good yesterday and today not too bad. Yesterday had crustless veg quiche for breakfast and a piece of bacon, tuna cucumber tomato and spring onion for lunch, homemade flapjack for an afternoon snack (whoops) plus some satsuma and baked sweet potato, courgette and red pepper for tea, then a hot chocolate before bed made with skimmed milk. Does this sound ok do you think?
Today I had 1 boiled egg and 1 piece of ham for breakfast, then yet more flapjack for a snack (so naughty but I was hungry), a small portion of pasta and pesto for lunch and a satsuma. Was planning on going low carb but dont quite seem to bring myself to it yet, plus we dont have anything in thats appealing! Note to self...stop making flipping flapjack!

woahthere · 04/01/2012 13:57

Meant to say am a whopping 13.7 stone...said I wanted to lose 3 stone...make that 3.7 Shock

Hathall · 04/01/2012 16:04

Your plan sounds ok Woahthere although depends on the size of the flapjack as they are quite calorific.
Don't do low carb if it doesn't suit as you'll just get fed up and give up. Have you looked at Slimming World? You can eat carbs and lose weight. I've done it before and it is good. My friend lost 2 stone on it and her sil lost 3.
Have a look at their website as they have a sample menu to follow.

I've stuck it out so far despite dh offering me M&S choc teacakes.

TartyMcFarty · 04/01/2012 18:13

Woahthere, I thought your diet yesterday sounded pretty nutritious, but you're right about not baking more flapjacks (funnily enough I just spelt that flabjacks, which says it all, really!)

I started really today with All-Bran for breakfast (not actually as bleeeeuurgh as I thought) and poached salmon with salad for lunch. I've arsed it up this afternoon, however, by giving into the temptation of jelly babies and a bit of choc. I feel terrible about the waste but I'm going to have to throw the rest out as I'm just not in control yet.

My wake-up call came 10 mins ago - I ordered some clothes in the Fat Face sale with money I was given for Christmas. I thought the stuff looked pretty generous size wise, but it was all too tight. I'm not the size 12 I kidded myself thought I was. So, out for a run in a bit!

SparkySparrow · 04/01/2012 18:31

Woahthere IF you don't bake/buy it, you can't eat it! That's my motto! Grin Although tbh the rest of your diet sounded really healthy.

Grin @ Tartys flabjacks!

I have also given into temptation today. Tucked into ds's leftovers. :( This was my downfall before. I had some cheesy bread,3 little sausages and a gingerbread man. Its enough to make me feel guilty. Must be stronger because I'm starting to feel better about myself. More energy and I don't feel bloated any more.

Ds is back to nursery next week so I'm going to get on with some exercise!

TartyMcFarty · 04/01/2012 18:45

Sparky, I went to a couple of WW meetings last year, and the leader suggested smothering leftovers with salt immediately to make them inedible!

lisad123 · 04/01/2012 18:50

I'm off to SW tonight!! Help me Confused

Hathall · 04/01/2012 18:51

Or smother them in fairy liquid or just go straight to the bin and chuck them which is what i do. Once they're in the bin I swear you will never regret it and think you should have eaten them instead!

Hathall · 04/01/2012 18:57

Good luck Lisad123. I'm sure you'll be fine Smile
I'm tempted to go to my local one too.

SparkySparrow · 04/01/2012 19:06

Good luck lisad123 !
Great tips!
I think I'll go down the salt route. Then, if I very stupidly forget and shove some in my mouth, the taste will put me off for good!

Hathall · 04/01/2012 19:37

Dh has just opened a box of M&S Belgian biscuits Angry

I WILL NOT HAVE ANY!

SparkySparrow · 04/01/2012 19:46

Hathall My dh is the same. He's sat next to me munching chocolate digestives and mars bars!
Bloody inconsiderate men!! Angry

Hathall · 04/01/2012 20:04

My dh is meant to be on a diet too. The box has been closed and put away thank goodness. I hope you managed to resist too SparkySparrow
I was tempted but I kept reminding myself how tight my work trousers have been and that put me off. They were really tight! I struggled to close them Blush
I'm aiming for a better fit come Monday.
