Who's in for healthy weight loss in 2012?

I'm sat here piling on the pounds over Christmas, not quite having lost those I gained last year!

It's got to the point where it's now or never - DH and I are TTC #2, so I have to get to a healthy weight to give us the best possible chance, which is motivation in itself. I need to lose about half a stone to get into my healthy weight range, but ideally would like to lose another stone on top of that.

I've half-arsedly tried Weight Watchers and Paul McKenna over the last year, and if I gave it a decent shot, either of those would help. The main thing I'm going to do to kick start the weight loss though, is make a new year's resolution to cut right back on junk food, which is my weakness. Basically, if it's not something nutritious, or if there's a healthier alternative, I'm going to try to give it a miss!

Having cancelled my gym membership last year, I joined a running club instead and will be going out with them once a week, and once with my DM. I have a kettlebell and DVD at home, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kettlercise-Just-Women-PLUS-Kettlebell/dp/B0053YNSDY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325074972&sr=8-1 this one, and will continue to use that twice a week. I'll also be going to a PAYG spinning class once a week, and maybe the odd Kettlercise class to vary the routine on the DVD a bit.

So, anybody interested in joining me? I'm not sure whether to go for it immediately from 1st January, or to wait until the 3rd (I have parties to go to on Sunday and Monday, so might be setting myself up for failure). That said, it would be a real buzz to manage a couple of social occasions straight away - they're usually another downfall for me!

sparkysparrow I'm sure its just fluctuations and you'll show a loss next Monday.

I think I've finally got into this diet properly. I've done the shred again and have had scrambled egg and beans, sushi for lunch and chicken and veg for dinner. Its been about 1000cals.

I went shopping in my lunch hr and bought this

www.dorothyperkins.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=33053&storeId=12552&productId=4444803&langId=-1&categoryId=&searchTerm=flower dress&pageSize=20

Its really nice on though my tummy is a bit big. I'm meant to be wearing it on Saturday to a lunch thing so I'm hoping by then my tummy will have gone down a bit and I've got some emergency spanx pants for good measure Smile

Hathall · 23/01/2012 19:57

er not a 20 though as the link suggests. Actually a 14.

mrspepperpotty · 23/01/2012 20:42

That is really annoying Sparky. Don't give up. If you stick with it you will lose weight. Promise. Will you go back to your original weigh in day, or carry on doing Mondays?

Lisad, it's usually easier in the beginning (ie the first few pounds come off more quickly), so I agree with the others that a 5lb loss may happen in the first week but can't be expected to continue - and it probably wouldn't be healthy if it did.

Hathall that dress is so pretty!

NewYearsRevolution · 23/01/2012 20:45

Nice dress Hathall. Tempted myself!

SparkySparrow · 23/01/2012 21:09

mrspepperpotty I'm going to stick with Mondays. I'm hoping it will keep me in check over the weekend.

Hathall That dress is lovely! :)

NYR I'm doing my graph as we speak. Going to stick it on my fridge!

tardisjumper · 23/01/2012 21:37

I just had such a good HUGE dinner and it was (quite) low calorie!

2x low fat cumberland sausages
200g mashed swede with a knob of light butter and some skimmed milk
75ml bisto gravy (25 calories!!!!)
1 cup of peas

=433 calories!

It was ace! I am so full that I am completely happy for DP to be polishing off the green & blacks!

Knittingmamma · 23/01/2012 22:35

Hey Sparky chin up. What you need to see is a downward trend over time, not a loss every week. Plus, doesn't muscle weigh more than fat, so it's probably all the exercise paying off?

Fairenuff · 23/01/2012 23:07

Sparky I weigh on a Monday and it certainly helps to strengthen my resolve over the weekend. Yay for the chart!! Set yourself a mini goal and award yourself a sticker on your chart when you get there Smile. I have a mini goal to lose 2lb and when I reach it I set another goal of, guess what, yep, 2lb. (I've got 3 stickers so far) Grin.

lisad123 · 24/01/2012 09:13

So ladies, have you set your own goals? Is it a weight goal, a dress size goal or a jeans goal?
Personally mine is 10stone, but would love to get to 9stone 6lb but don't want to fail.

Knittingmamma · 24/01/2012 09:52

My goal is to get in the "normal" range on one of those graphs, which is 10lb 6 to 11 st I think (I normally do kilos). Would be really happy to be a size 14 Smile. I think my ultimate goal is to be able to keep up with my DH and two boisterous boys!

Good news - have realised today I need a belt on my jeans! Realised it when they kept falling down on the nursery run Blush

putyourhatonsweetie · 24/01/2012 10:38

that's great knittingmama! (the belt not the hitching jeans look!)

Lisad I have a goal of 50 kg, but also to be more generally toned and to feel better in my skin.

TalkinPeace2 · 24/01/2012 12:36

hmmm, no weight loss this week - then again I ate too much over the weekend. must try harder !
sussed out the one handed plank in Bodybalance though so that will help with the waistline!

Vicky08 · 24/01/2012 17:29

I also like having Monday as a weigh in day, this week I've lost 1lb which I'm happy with because I haven't been brilliant this week.

I set myself small goals, my first one was to get my BMI from the obese to the overweight range which i've achieved. Next I want to get below 80 kilos (I'm currently 81K) so hopefully I'll get there by next week. Then It'll be to get into some size 16 black trousers that I have (am almost there). So my goals are all different. The most important thing is to keep them small and realistic.

I love the dress Hathall

TalkinPeace2 as someone else said, it doesn't matter if you don't loose every week, the most important thing is that the weight is going down over time.

mrspepperpotty · 24/01/2012 19:56

Well done Vicky and bad luck talkinpeace - better luck next week.

Lisad my aim is to lose 2 stone by the end of June (so that's only 1lb per week) when I am going to a friend's wedding.

Hathall · 24/01/2012 20:53

Well done Vicky and Talkinpeace. Not gaining is still hard work Smile
Good news on the belt knittingmama

My goal is to get into the normal weight range as far as the bmi calculater goes. It means I have to lose 20lbs.

Today I shredded and had scrambled eggs and beans for breakfast, tuna salad for lunch and chicken and salad for dinner. I'm in proper diet mode. I need it to stick!!

TalkinPeace2 · 24/01/2012 21:34

well done you
maintaining weight loss week after week is less easy for me as I've not got much to lose - but mutual motivation is great

CupOfBrownJoy · 25/01/2012 07:13

oh no! I've had a hideous week - car died completely on Sunday and I've been running around every evening trying to get a new one sorted, and just grabbing food on the hoof, and I've put on 1.5 pounds.... Sad

Back on it with a vengence today. More determined than ever.....

I've got bean casserole defrosting as I type!

mrspepperpotty · 25/01/2012 07:43

Good stuff hathall, sounds like you are in 'the zone'. Glad to hear you are more determined than ever cup, that's the way to deal with a gain!

Weigh in this morning and I've lost 1lb. Slow steady progress!

NewYearsRevolution · 25/01/2012 09:20

I forgot to weigh myself on Monday, so decided to move my weigh in until mid week. Weighed myself today and am 79.2kg! Yeay! That's 1.8kg in 9 days (although I think that the 81kg high point at the last weigh in my have been partly water retention, as my jeans felt tight that day, and better only a couple of days later).

mrspepperpotty · 25/01/2012 13:17

I had mega cravings this morning. I took DS2 to a music class and was sooo tempted to go to a cafe afterwards for a big slice of cake, or stop at the shop on the way home for choc / crisps. I am really proud of myself for resisting!

CupOfBrownJoy · 25/01/2012 15:06

Well done mrspepperpotty it feels good when you resist doesn't it?! Smile

lisad123 · 25/01/2012 18:03

Off to weigh in in a bitConfused

Vicky08 · 25/01/2012 19:52

It sounds like everyone is doing really well. Good luck lisad123. I've had quite a good day but I've got a real sugar craving. I have to resist.

Well done NewYearsRevolution

lisad123 · 25/01/2012 20:37

Well that sucked! I only lost 1lb! I have been in the gym three times this week and been so good Angry
Oh well I'm going back to small plates and no sugar tea. I'm going to plan all meals for the week and stock up on more apples (dds keep stealing mine!)

NewYearsRevolution · 25/01/2012 20:39

1lb is good! 1-2lbs is normal each week. Please don't get disheartened!
