Who's in for healthy weight loss in 2012?

I'm sat here piling on the pounds over Christmas, not quite having lost those I gained last year!

It's got to the point where it's now or never - DH and I are TTC #2, so I have to get to a healthy weight to give us the best possible chance, which is motivation in itself. I need to lose about half a stone to get into my healthy weight range, but ideally would like to lose another stone on top of that.

I've half-arsedly tried Weight Watchers and Paul McKenna over the last year, and if I gave it a decent shot, either of those would help. The main thing I'm going to do to kick start the weight loss though, is make a new year's resolution to cut right back on junk food, which is my weakness. Basically, if it's not something nutritious, or if there's a healthier alternative, I'm going to try to give it a miss!

Having cancelled my gym membership last year, I joined a running club instead and will be going out with them once a week, and once with my DM. I have a kettlebell and DVD at home, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kettlercise-Just-Women-PLUS-Kettlebell/dp/B0053YNSDY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325074972&sr=8-1 this one, and will continue to use that twice a week. I'll also be going to a PAYG spinning class once a week, and maybe the odd Kettlercise class to vary the routine on the DVD a bit.

So, anybody interested in joining me? I'm not sure whether to go for it immediately from 1st January, or to wait until the 3rd (I have parties to go to on Sunday and Monday, so might be setting myself up for failure). That said, it would be a real buzz to manage a couple of social occasions straight away - they're usually another downfall for me!

Another 2.5lb so got my half stone in 2 weeks! Grin

NewYearsRevolution · 18/01/2012 21:13

Mrspepperpotty - we can be the non losers together. Fingers crossed both of us for next week!

SparkySparrow · 18/01/2012 21:22

Congrats lisad !! :)

mrspepperpotty · 18/01/2012 22:43

Well done lisad! Yes NYR, next week will be a different story!

Talkinpeace that is a good point. I haven't been doing that, but will from tomorrow.

putyourhatonsweetie · 18/01/2012 23:06

Everyone is doing so well,

tonguetwisted. I'm using myfitnesspal too - and also under the calorie goal regularly, I figure the exercise I do will keep my metabolism up though. I think 1200 calories is hard really ...I find that if I eat healthiliy and control my portions I am under and if I don't well.....(I am the size of a house as it is!)

Vicky08 · 18/01/2012 23:46

Hi everyone,

Haven't been on in a few days but I'm still here. I've just read through all your threads and you're all doing fantastically. My weigh in was on Monday and I've lost 3 lb but more importantly now according to the NHS I'm not obese anymore, just overweight now so that's my first goal achieved. The next goal is to get below 80 kilos, I'm currently 82kilos. I find that if I have small goals it's easier for me.

I've had a really busy 2 days and haven't been that good foodwise but now it's time to get back on the wagon before this weeks weigh in, I still have a few days.

Hope everyone has a good day tomorrow.

TartyMcFarty · 19/01/2012 06:45

Really well done cup, hathall, lisad and vicky. You're all doing really well and it's inspiring!

putyourhatonsweetie · 19/01/2012 11:25

Just checking to say how grateful i am for this thread.

Today my dc had two playdates, one this morning and one this afternoon (check them out with their social lives...we go for days with nowt). Both required me to be wearing my swimming costume. Normally this would have involved sarongs, discomfort and a rubbish day..... however today I decided to bugger it I held my tummy in, stuck my chest out and my chin up and had a lovely time. Now I've only lost 3 kilos and have been this weight many times before, and there is no dancing around the issue, I am fat...but today I knew I was doing something about it. So, thank you all for the cheerful support and fingers crossed I can keep it up .

mrspepperpotty · 19/01/2012 12:46

That's a lovely post, putyourhatonsweetie. So glad you felt confident in your swimming costume - good for you!

Well done Vicky that's a fantastic step.

TalkinPeace2 · 19/01/2012 12:52

GO Sweetie - walk tall, walk proud, and when the weight comes off you'll be sorted for ever.

Vick - such a fab milestone to reach on the path to being a healthy weight. Well done.

I'm at work today so am mainlining tea!

Fairenuff · 19/01/2012 16:28

Well done lisa and Vicky, great losses Smile

Swimming costumes? Eeeek! But just think how fab we will look in the summer Grin.

SparkySparrow · 19/01/2012 20:28

That was a lovely post putyourhaton !
I can't remember the last time I wore a swimming costume. Confused

Thats brill Vicky keep up the good work!

I have noticed today that I don't look preggers any more, just a bit chubby. Grin
I wore a red (yes! RED!) t-shirt out today, which for someone who only wear's black top's was a huge step! Confidence is on the up, and I love it!! :)

TalkinPeace2 · 20/01/2012 13:05

Swim, yoga, gym. Now chilling. I'm allowed a drink tonight. Woo Hoo.

Knittingmamma · 20/01/2012 15:20

I know I'm a bit late but can I jump on this band wagon? I have a serious amount of weight to lose - about 30kg. I have lost 8.9 since the birth of DS2 and just got below 100kg. I am secretly proud of this, but can't tell anyone else as it means admitting I was over 100kg Blush

First target is 98kg (pre DS 2), then 94kg (pre DS1) then somewhere in the 70s for a healthy weight.

Am starting with portion control, cutting the junk, filling up on veggies and at 30 mins exercise a day (plus hoping breastfeeding helps). Using my fitness pal app to monitor what I eat and aim for 1500 calories a day. Am off to look up this harcombe diet now as I have never heard of it!

CupOfBrownJoy · 20/01/2012 16:34

oops I miscounted and I didn't lose 4.5 pounds this week, I lost 5.5!! Blush

I've hopped on the scales today and I'm weighing a pound heavier again though at the moment...

SparkySparrow · 20/01/2012 16:44

Welcome Knittingmamma! :) It sounds like your on the right track! Keep up the good work!

Cup Isn't that better?
No you should not weigh yourself unless its weigh day! Grin

CupOfBrownJoy · 20/01/2012 17:53

Sorry I forgot to say welcome to knittingmama! Its been a long day and I've forgotten my manners.... Blush

Yes 5.5 is definitely better! Bit embarrassed at my lack of subtraction skills though (don't tell anyone I'm a primary school teacher!)

On the other hand, seeing the pound creep back on has made me redouble my good intentions for this weekend...

lisad123 · 20/01/2012 18:11

Off to Zumba and a swim in a bit. Today was very hard, was my first coffee morning in the year and damn those woman can bake. Choc chip cookies fresh!! Chocolate tarts and banana cake!!
I was very good and had none but ohhhh sooo tempting Blush

TalkinPeace2 · 20/01/2012 20:13

Knitting - welcome and GO FOR IT ; you must be tall !
Cup - well done. I nearly cheated and went up to do an interim this week but as I skipped dinner last night (accidental due to work meetings) it would have been silly.
Lisad : WELL DONE on resisting the cake. I do not eat chocolate (not a diet thing, allergy) and have extended that to most snack foods.

but NOW : I go eat pizza and drink wine.
Have a fab evening ladies :-)

Vicky08 · 20/01/2012 20:36

Aw putyourhatonsweetie what you've written is so nice. It's true that even though I'm still very overweight the fact that I know I'm doing something about it has given me so much more confidence.

The last time I wore a swimming costume was last summer and I felt awful, I'm determined not to feel like that agin this summer.

Well done CupOfBrownJoy

Welcome Knittingmamma

Today I've been very good up until an hour ago when i had a handful couple of haribo.

Tomorrow I'm going out for lunch and I'm a bit worried but I'm determined to be as good as possible.

Vicky08 · 20/01/2012 20:39

Enjoy the pizza and wine TalkinPeace2 sounds like a good plan for this evening.

Hathall · 20/01/2012 21:10

Well done everyone. Just keep on going Smile

I've been up and down. Although I've been having a few naughties, I've not eaten later than 6pm all week so I've been going to bed with that slightly empty feeling. I hope its helping.

I need to get back to calorie counting as I've been relying on general healthy eating which I think is a bit slow for me.

TalkinPeace2 · 20/01/2012 21:15

Vicky : stick to starters ; two startes make a FAB reduced calorie meal
Hat :are you doing a food diary - even if youdo not calorie count it

GO FOR IT on swimming : it is fab exercise and once you are in the water up to your neck, only YOU know you size ....
walk tall, walk proud

CupOfBrownJoy · 20/01/2012 21:26

Hope everyone has had a good low-cal day!

I'm sitting in DP's restaurant, gagging for a glass of wine, watching everyone else swigging it down..... and resisting (with difficulty!)

I'm going to treat myself with one tomorrow.

I was also tempted to have some delicious baguette, but confined myself to 2 rice crackers Sad

Knittingmamma · 20/01/2012 21:33

Thanks for all the welcomes! Smile

Well done Cup, that's a great loss!

And I'm impressed by the will power Lisad! Any tips? Sweet things are def my weakness.
