Who's in for healthy weight loss in 2012?

I'm sat here piling on the pounds over Christmas, not quite having lost those I gained last year!

It's got to the point where it's now or never - DH and I are TTC #2, so I have to get to a healthy weight to give us the best possible chance, which is motivation in itself. I need to lose about half a stone to get into my healthy weight range, but ideally would like to lose another stone on top of that.

I've half-arsedly tried Weight Watchers and Paul McKenna over the last year, and if I gave it a decent shot, either of those would help. The main thing I'm going to do to kick start the weight loss though, is make a new year's resolution to cut right back on junk food, which is my weakness. Basically, if it's not something nutritious, or if there's a healthier alternative, I'm going to try to give it a miss!

Having cancelled my gym membership last year, I joined a running club instead and will be going out with them once a week, and once with my DM. I have a kettlebell and DVD at home, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kettlercise-Just-Women-PLUS-Kettlebell/dp/B0053YNSDY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325074972&sr=8-1 this one, and will continue to use that twice a week. I'll also be going to a PAYG spinning class once a week, and maybe the odd Kettlercise class to vary the routine on the DVD a bit.

So, anybody interested in joining me? I'm not sure whether to go for it immediately from 1st January, or to wait until the 3rd (I have parties to go to on Sunday and Monday, so might be setting myself up for failure). That said, it would be a real buzz to manage a couple of social occasions straight away - they're usually another downfall for me!

Great minds think alike TP ! Grin

TartyMcFarty · 17/01/2012 21:45

I've just ordered a dress in the French Connection sale that I've been hankering after for months. Hankering - that's a weird word, innit?!

It's a size 12, and as FC sizes are 'real', I'd better get on with it Grin!

mrspepperpotty · 17/01/2012 22:33

Well done talkinpeace!

I too have a weight loss spreadsheet. I also had a spreadsheet for conceiving my DCs!!

Night night all.

putyourhatonsweetie · 17/01/2012 23:47

Well sone TP and Sparky!

putyourhatonsweetie · 17/01/2012 23:48

*done, sorry!

CupOfBrownJoy · 18/01/2012 11:02

Morning all!

Weigh in today - I lost 4.5 pounds!! Thats 8.5 pounds in 2 weeks and I'm already lower than my interim target weight which I was hoping to reach by mid Feb!!

I'm really pleased, and I haven't been hungry at all since I started... I love slimming world Grin

I've rewarded myself with a little bun which one of the children in school brought in from his birthday party Smile

SparkySparrow · 18/01/2012 11:08

Wow! Well done Cup ! That's brilliant! Smile

putyourhatonsweetie · 18/01/2012 11:09

That is fantastic cup well done you

TalkinPeace2 · 18/01/2012 12:48

Well done cup
But a slight word of warning - do not get into the habit of rewarding yourself for weight loss unless it's at a meal time. I see lots of people at the gym who have a gentle swim for half an hour and then reward themselves with a muffin and a coffee - swim burned off 100 calories, muffin contains 400 ; and then they wonder why the weight stays on. If you possibly can, make the cake a reward pudding instead of fruit at the end of supper.

Fairenuff · 18/01/2012 17:31

Well done Cup that's really good going Smile

Hathall · 18/01/2012 18:05

Well done Cup thats brill!
It's very inspiring.

Well done to every one else with losses.

I've got back into the diet this week as I've pretty much recovered from my cold now and work has calmed down.

I weighed myself and I had another lb off. I know slow and steady is better but its a bit too slow so I want to step it up a bit. I'll try to exercise every day now and stick to 1000 cals for a week or so.

TalkinPeace2 · 18/01/2012 18:08

Another pound . Well done.
The combination of exercise and really thinking forward to what you'll be used to living on once you hit target weight (to stay there) is important

and we can all jump up and down and go whoop when somebody does as well as cup

Hathall · 18/01/2012 18:09

For everyone with iphones (may work on other phones too) I have an app called Target Weight which charts your weight and bmi. It shows me that I need to lose 20lbs to get to a bmi of 25.
I love charts too but not geeky enough to create my own Smile

TongueTwisted · 18/01/2012 18:25

Does anybody use myfitnesspal?

I inputted all my foods, snacks (which was a yoghurt at lunch and 2 cups of coffee), homemade dinner and the exercise I do which informed me if I stick to that amount daily I will lose 15lb in 5 weeks. Brilliant I thought until I read under it that I was well under my calorie intake for the day and that this isn't a good thing.

I use it on my iPhone, has anyone else experienced being told this? Shall I ignore it or up my calorie intake? I put a post saying I eat wholegrain cereal, sandwich at lunch and a homemade dinner. I have done as someone recommended and replaced snacks with a glass of water (thankyou talkingpeace2 :) ) so I feel I'm doing the right thing. But myfitnesspal is telling me otherwise?

One confused lady here, any opinions/advice greatly appreciated! :)

lisad123 · 18/01/2012 18:27

well done cup, Im off to SW in a bit for my weigh in too Blush
I wish I had done an early morning class, because Im alot lighter in the morning Grin

TalkinPeace2 · 18/01/2012 18:31

not heard of it
but the trouble with all calorie counter thingies is the assumptions they make
the trick will be to make sure you feel very slightly hungry all the time and grumbly tummy by meal times
and you will FEEL the weight coming off
I already ooze less over my jeans than I did ten days ago

CupOfBrownJoy · 18/01/2012 18:32

Thanks everyone

I weighed myself again this evening just be sure and the scales said exactly the same Smile

Staying at target is tugh for me - its not quick, but the weight does slowly creep back on. I need to keep weighing myself every single week andmaking sure I stay in my target zone.... easier said than done though!

Tongue Twisted if you're happy with what you are eating and you're not hungry, I would stick to your original plan - I've never used the app though.

SparkySparrow · 18/01/2012 18:33

Good luck lisa !
Well done Hathall

Good day for me today, although my thigh's are killing me from yesterday's shred session. :( Went for a long walk (in the rain Hmm ) with ds today to try and ease them up abit.

Also avoided a chunk of chocolate birthday cake! :)

CupOfBrownJoy · 18/01/2012 18:33

ooops tough Blush

SparkySparrow · 18/01/2012 18:37

I agree with TP about the feeling slightly hungry all the time and grumbly by meals.
Once you get used to it its actually quite a nice feeling.

Hathall · 18/01/2012 18:50

I know the feeling you're all talking about. If I feel like this before bed then I know my weight is coming off. I hate going to bed with a stuffed feeling.

Tonguetwisted how many cals are you having? I get told this all the time on Myfitnesspal if I try to stick to 1000 cals. I ignore it. Its a fab app though!

TongueTwisted · 18/01/2012 19:08

I thought I should just stick to what I'm doing now, I'll just ignore what it says.

TalkingPeace2 it is an app where you can keep track of calorie intake. You update it each time you eat or exercise and it tells you calories consumed, calories burned off and how many calories you should be having once you input your current weight and target weight. So it says I should be having 1600 calories per day but with my exercise, it's taking off 200 and my food apparently only comes to 1400. So that's 1200 calories per day, 400 less than I'm supposed to have.

I don't think I'll use it, I'm not going to deviate from my healthy eating and exercise plan (I refuse to call it diet, I'm not dieting, I'm getting healthier :o ) so it's a bit pointless me being told to consume more food!

TongueTwisted · 18/01/2012 19:12

I agree, Hathall it is a good app but to be told I'm consuming too little is confusing me!

mrspepperpotty · 18/01/2012 19:14

Yes I know that feeling too! Agree it's nice in a weird way.

Well done cup and hathall!

I didn't lose anything this week Sad. I am not counting calories or following a particular weight loss plan - just trying to "be good" - so I guess I am not being strict enough with myself. I will try one more week like this, but if it's no loss again I will have to start counting calories properly. Am determined not to give up though!

Tonguetwisted I would ignore this message unless you get it every day, as there will prob be days you go over so it will balance out?

TalkinPeace2 · 18/01/2012 19:30

mrspepperpotty
are you keeping an accurate food diary?
even if you do not calorie count it, the very fact of writing down
2 3 4 5 choccy digies
shows where it goes!
