Who's in for healthy weight loss in 2012?

I'm sat here piling on the pounds over Christmas, not quite having lost those I gained last year!

It's got to the point where it's now or never - DH and I are TTC #2, so I have to get to a healthy weight to give us the best possible chance, which is motivation in itself. I need to lose about half a stone to get into my healthy weight range, but ideally would like to lose another stone on top of that.

I've half-arsedly tried Weight Watchers and Paul McKenna over the last year, and if I gave it a decent shot, either of those would help. The main thing I'm going to do to kick start the weight loss though, is make a new year's resolution to cut right back on junk food, which is my weakness. Basically, if it's not something nutritious, or if there's a healthier alternative, I'm going to try to give it a miss!

Having cancelled my gym membership last year, I joined a running club instead and will be going out with them once a week, and once with my DM. I have a kettlebell and DVD at home, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kettlercise-Just-Women-PLUS-Kettlebell/dp/B0053YNSDY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325074972&sr=8-1 this one, and will continue to use that twice a week. I'll also be going to a PAYG spinning class once a week, and maybe the odd Kettlercise class to vary the routine on the DVD a bit.

So, anybody interested in joining me? I'm not sure whether to go for it immediately from 1st January, or to wait until the 3rd (I have parties to go to on Sunday and Monday, so might be setting myself up for failure). That said, it would be a real buzz to manage a couple of social occasions straight away - they're usually another downfall for me!

I already walk loads, getting back into cycling (don't have a lot of time to do this due to 4yo), hate swimming, can't afford a gym membership. Grin

I'm 23, I might take a chance on the knee's Grin

TalkinPeace2 · 16/01/2012 20:23

Half my age !!!!!

SparkySparrow · 16/01/2012 20:34

WW pizza I was going to try this at the weekend. Healthier 'takeaway' food I'm thinking. :)

mrspepperpotty · 16/01/2012 20:54

Well done fairenuff, great start!

Sorry you were disappointed newyearsrevolution, well done for getting on here and admitting it rather than just dropping off the thread. Better luck for next week!

I keep hearing about the shred too. Let us know what you think of it.

SparkySparrow · 16/01/2012 21:33

I've ordered it Confused , I've read some of the reviews (mostly 5 stars) , basically its painfully hard work but you will see results . Going to nick my friends in the meantime so I can't chicken out. I don't think I'll be able to do it everyday, so maybe 3 time's a week Hmm .

TartyMcFarty · 16/01/2012 21:48

I despise the Shred. I find it irritating and joyless. I have a kettlebell DVD (linked in OP) which I far prefer. I couldn't face a freezing run tonight so I did Davina's Body Buff cardio and abs. Not as agonising as Shred but good exercise and much more fun.

A good day for me today!

Flojo1979 · 16/01/2012 21:52

TP I dont eat WW prepared meals, I meant WW recipe, I enjoy cooking.
I'd rather go to classes but I have my DCs so only get to go one night a wk on a thursday when i weigh in at WW and then go straight to Zumba class.
I'm going to go to the gym tomorrow on way home from work before I start my next job, but theres no classes on in that 2 hr window that i am free so I'll just use gym stuff but i get bored very quickly, bout 20 mins if that and I'm done.

Flojo1979 · 16/01/2012 21:54

Sparky let me know how u get on with Shred, might invest also!

TalkinPeace2 · 16/01/2012 21:57

Cool - that pizza that sparky linked looks yum
agree that going in the gym is a drag ; is there anybody you could meet to be a "gym buddy" and motivate you - or see if one of the staff can set you a programme ....
this site could be interesting www.ball-exercises.com/

lisad123 · 16/01/2012 23:53

Zumba was hard today, felt like the fat witch at the front, seriously do they need that many mirrors Angry
I have been pretty good today, although misdee (big sister of mine) ha a box of chocs when I went round for a cuppa Confused

putyourhatonsweetie · 17/01/2012 11:55

I get on really quite well with the shred - only 20 minutes and its nice and challenging. No gyms near me so shred plus jogging/ swimming has to work for me.

there are numerous threads on here about it - join us on newbies or let us know how you get on.

mrspepperpotty · 17/01/2012 12:31

Flojo please can I have the recipe for mushroom and cauliflower curry?

TartyMcFarty · 17/01/2012 13:57

Flojo, I have the same problems as you with getting to classes - I'm never free when the classes are scheduled. I try to just mix it up with different DVDs - Davina and Nell McAndrew are good. I've just done Kettlercise while DD naps.

DH buggered off to work with my lunch so I've had to make do with plastic white bread and low fat Philly. Other than that, good so far.

SparkySparrow · 17/01/2012 14:58

Weigh day today! I've lost 1lb this week. :)
Not a lot but I have had a few naughty days so I'm amazed I lost at all!

Did The Shred this morning.
Just when I thought I was about to die....it ended! Grin
It was hard work but I feel really good now Iv'e done it. think I might ache a bit in the morning though!

TartyMcFarty · 17/01/2012 15:26

Well done Sparky - a loss is a loss Smile

mrspepperpotty · 17/01/2012 18:49

Arghh have just finished off the kids' supper - nothing more to eat for me tonight! DH will just have to fend for himself! Think he will be working late anyway. Kids' supper was pasta and sausage casserole (not quite as unhealthy as it sounds - high ratio of veg to sausages).

mrspepperpotty · 17/01/2012 18:49

Yes well done sparky!

TalkinPeace2 · 17/01/2012 19:45

did not get to swim or gym this morning sue to dead car
did my swim tonight while DS at tennis and DD having hers
weighted myself before (salad) supper at the gym - down another 2 pounds.
The no booze in the week is definitely helping too!
Well done everybody

Fairenuff · 17/01/2012 20:02

Wow TP you are so disciplined, well done. And Sparky - now you have the motivation to stick with it this week Smile.

Cup I know what you mean about the staff room, barely a day goes by without cake or biscuits being produced by someone! Today the head very kindly supplied doughnuts, but I resisted. Who's got the halo-polishing cloth? Pass it here will ya Grin.

TartyMcFarty · 17/01/2012 20:08

Well done TalkinPeace. Good loss.

TalkinPeace2 · 17/01/2012 20:35

Fairenuff
I was threatened with major knee surgery several years ago if I did not get into shape and lose the weight.
So I did. And I've staved off the surgery for another few years.
The threat of pain is a great motivator.
I also have a spreadsheet that shows EXACTLY what my BMI is and I weigh myself on the lever scales at the gym which are very accurate.
I WILL hit target weight by March.

SparkySparrow · 17/01/2012 20:51

Well done TalkinPeace !
You have a BMI spreadsheet? Shock
That's a great idea! Grin

Fairenuff · 17/01/2012 21:02

I have a weight loss chart Grin. I have found in the past that I get demotivated if I don't lose, or even gain, weight when dieting. It's frustrating when life gets in the way and you don't/can't stick rigidly to plan. So my chart shows that, although I sometimes gain, overall it's a downward trend. Sort of, 1lb on, 2lbs off. It helps me get right back into 'the zone' iyswim.

SparkySparrow · 17/01/2012 21:11

I think I might go for a graph/chart and stick it on my fridge! Grin

TalkinPeace2 · 17/01/2012 21:14

on the fridge is good as you then have to get past it to get to the snacks.
I'm always at my computer - and am an utter numbers geek - so have it on here.
