Who's in for healthy weight loss in 2012?

I'm sat here piling on the pounds over Christmas, not quite having lost those I gained last year!

It's got to the point where it's now or never - DH and I are TTC #2, so I have to get to a healthy weight to give us the best possible chance, which is motivation in itself. I need to lose about half a stone to get into my healthy weight range, but ideally would like to lose another stone on top of that.

I've half-arsedly tried Weight Watchers and Paul McKenna over the last year, and if I gave it a decent shot, either of those would help. The main thing I'm going to do to kick start the weight loss though, is make a new year's resolution to cut right back on junk food, which is my weakness. Basically, if it's not something nutritious, or if there's a healthier alternative, I'm going to try to give it a miss!

Having cancelled my gym membership last year, I joined a running club instead and will be going out with them once a week, and once with my DM. I have a kettlebell and DVD at home, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kettlercise-Just-Women-PLUS-Kettlebell/dp/B0053YNSDY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325074972&sr=8-1 this one, and will continue to use that twice a week. I'll also be going to a PAYG spinning class once a week, and maybe the odd Kettlercise class to vary the routine on the DVD a bit.

So, anybody interested in joining me? I'm not sure whether to go for it immediately from 1st January, or to wait until the 3rd (I have parties to go to on Sunday and Monday, so might be setting myself up for failure). That said, it would be a real buzz to manage a couple of social occasions straight away - they're usually another downfall for me!

LOL drywhit trust me you wouldnt.
We have to be organised hatall, i have 2 SN kids who only live via routines, so fairly easy.
I have never been on a diet before, so wasnt sure how much is good to lose, everyone seemed happy at 5lb in a week, so guess thats good?? Confused

Enjoying watching biggest loser, makes me feel loads better Blush

SparkySparrow · 12/01/2012 16:44

Well done on resisting temptation drywhite ! :)
I agree that routine and planning are the key to weight loss. I have noticed that I have become more organised since I decided to start trying to lose weight. If I'm not I imagine it would be a lot harder!

Jacket pot's with tuna for tea.

Bit of a weird question, Has anyone else felt colder since they started? I have had to turn my heating up, but I know it's not really that cold. I was wondering if maybe it's down to not eating as much and not a lot of fatty stuff?

lisad123 · 12/01/2012 16:56

My friend has started lighter life! Her dinner looks foul [sick emotion]

TalkinPeace2 · 12/01/2012 17:19

drywhite
what snacks did you put out for your children?
if its not stuff you should be eating, should they?
dried fruit, fresh fruit, milk, fruit juice are good after school snacks - IF they ask for them
but otherwise they should be able to keep going till an early supper
snacking habits and the craving for sugar are learned young ....
easier not to learn it than have to unlearn it in our 40's !

SparkySparrow · 12/01/2012 17:23

lisad One of my friend's did lighter life last year. Your right it look's disgusting! She lost 2 and 1/2 stone really quickly only to put back on 3 stone later on in the year because she was 'eating properly' again.

TalkinPeace2 · 12/01/2012 17:25

an old school friend did it - she's married to a sleb - it worked and she was all over daytime TV and magazines about it
BUT
no recent pictures ....

Flojo1979 · 12/01/2012 17:28

Flojo1979 · 12/01/2012 17:31

Never heard that about being cold, i haven't noticed but u never know.
My fridge has never looked so full. Lots of zero points salad n veg and low fat creme fraiche, what the hell is creme fraiche?! And what am I supposed to do with it now!

drywhiteplease · 12/01/2012 17:35

TalkinPeace2 · 12/01/2012 17:37

drywhite
tee hee - mine is 11 and the ravenous stage has not yet kicked in ...
my mother used to point my brothers at bread and butter and then watch the whole loaf disappear!

drywhiteplease · 12/01/2012 17:46

You wait human dustbin about to arrive in your house ! At least you had brothers! No boys in my family and small father. I just can't believe how much they eat!

SparkySparrow · 12/01/2012 18:31

I must be weirder than I thought then! Grin

drywhiteplease · 12/01/2012 19:53

sparky you not wierd.skinny people always cold.it does make sense if you have less fuel in you.

putyourhatonsweetie · 13/01/2012 08:38

lisad 5lb a week, whilst fabulous for the first week is not really sustainable, 1-2lb a week is great and semi realistic in the medium term I think.

LollipopViolet · 13/01/2012 08:43

Back to the gym for me in a bit. Also back on the healthy stuff after a trip to the cinema last night.

Weirdly enough, even with pizza and popcorn last night, I think I was under my calorie intake goal thingy because I planned for it and had a little salad for lunch.

Ah well, won't be doing it often, and will be burning it off today hopefully! :)

mrspepperpotty · 13/01/2012 14:41

Feeling nervous about this weekend as I am going out to dinner with (different) friends on both Fri and Sat - very unusual for me these days! Will try to have small lunches and no pudding.

TalkinPeace2 · 13/01/2012 16:06

mrspepperpotty
a trick for eating out (again from my skinny friends) : Have two starters.
A cold one as your starter and a hot one as your main course.
You are still sociably eating along but eating MUCH less.
Another nice trick if out with a friend is three starters between you as your main course - then you get a lovely varied meal but not too much.

If going for Indian or Chinese, ALWAYS have a set menu - they will serve you FAR less than you would order yourself on the buffet or main menu but it will be structured and tasty

Hathall · 13/01/2012 17:09

I feel ill Sad

I've been stressed with work again (I hate my job at times) and have a bad cold. I feel very rough and haven't slept much hence couple of rounds of marmite on toast today along with 2 quality streets. Not great but I need the comfort.

Hopefully with dh at home tomorrow, I can get back on track.

SparkySparrow · 13/01/2012 17:35

Hope you feel better soon Hathall .

Another tricky day again for me. Bloody hormone's! Just want to eat everything in sight! Had my usual porridge for breakfast, had a ham salad sandwich with brown bread for lunch (my first bread in 12 days!), got chilli and rice made with quorn for dinner. I am allowing myself a hot chocolate and 2 biscuit's for later. Sooooo looking forward to it!!! :)

TalkinPeace2 · 13/01/2012 19:09

Weekend coming up - no alarm for two days
Hathall - you'll be fine. Marmite on toast is a good snack
Sparky - is cutting the bread down really working?

SparkySparrow · 13/01/2012 19:14

It is for me. I feel loads better, much less bloated and slugish. I know its not for everyone, but bread is one of my major downfalls.

TalkinPeace2 · 13/01/2012 19:26

Excellent.
My weakness is booze (has a Kwak beer on the desk but have been dry all week) and cheese (that was THE hardest part of WW)

SparkySparrow · 13/01/2012 19:33

I do miss cheese a bit! But I only ever used to have it on the bad stuff, so its not been to difficult to cut out.

Well done on resisting temptation! :)

Flojo1979 · 13/01/2012 23:08

I lost 3 and a half lbs, Yey. I was so motivated I didn't bother with tea last night, and I don't do breakfast, but by time I finished work I was ravenous and on way out of work some gave me a box of chocolates :( I ate them all :( got it in my head to get rid of them quick, the whole lot, feel sick :(

Flojo1979 · 13/01/2012 23:10

After WW, since I had a babysitter for that, I went to zumba, not been for ages, was hillarious, just kept crashing in to everyone! Oh well, I tried!
