Who's in for healthy weight loss in 2012?

I'm sat here piling on the pounds over Christmas, not quite having lost those I gained last year!

It's got to the point where it's now or never - DH and I are TTC #2, so I have to get to a healthy weight to give us the best possible chance, which is motivation in itself. I need to lose about half a stone to get into my healthy weight range, but ideally would like to lose another stone on top of that.

I've half-arsedly tried Weight Watchers and Paul McKenna over the last year, and if I gave it a decent shot, either of those would help. The main thing I'm going to do to kick start the weight loss though, is make a new year's resolution to cut right back on junk food, which is my weakness. Basically, if it's not something nutritious, or if there's a healthier alternative, I'm going to try to give it a miss!

Having cancelled my gym membership last year, I joined a running club instead and will be going out with them once a week, and once with my DM. I have a kettlebell and DVD at home, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kettlercise-Just-Women-PLUS-Kettlebell/dp/B0053YNSDY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325074972&sr=8-1 this one, and will continue to use that twice a week. I'll also be going to a PAYG spinning class once a week, and maybe the odd Kettlercise class to vary the routine on the DVD a bit.

So, anybody interested in joining me? I'm not sure whether to go for it immediately from 1st January, or to wait until the 3rd (I have parties to go to on Sunday and Monday, so might be setting myself up for failure). That said, it would be a real buzz to manage a couple of social occasions straight away - they're usually another downfall for me!

Really well done flojo, lisad, mrspepperpotty and angryfeet. I'm so impressed with your motivation!

I've had a couple of rubbish totm days but have set myself a very small challenge of having a perfect day today. I'm at my mum's and usually let it go here (she's slim and doesn't 'do' diets). We're going to do some heavy duty gardening and have a hilly walk, so that should get me back on track.

I'm in for a ridiculously busy time from Monday for a few weeks. I'm an exam marker and that kicks off this week, on top of P/T teaching and tuition, so I'm going to make sure I have some healthy snacks in (celery and houmous; grapes; can't think of much more!) Exercise will only tick over but I'll walk with DD during the day wherever possible.

We're off to Center Parcs in 5 weeks, so I need to have lost half a stone by then!

I gave in and had my first piece of chocolate last night! Blush
I have brought fudge bars as they are only a few syns. Have put them in the freezer so I have to wait for them Grin

TartyMcFarty · 14/01/2012 11:16

I love the freezer idea, that's superb!

LollipopViolet · 14/01/2012 12:28

Right, off out tomorrow for lunch with some friends. Las Iguanas. Does anyone know if they have nutrition info online? :)

Flojo1979 · 14/01/2012 13:23

Loving the freezer idea, wish I'd thought of that before I ate a whole box last night! But will def be doing that if i ever end up with some more. Not sure my will power will last long enough for it to actually freeze but I'll try!!
Made WW spinach and red pepper fritatta for lunch it was very good, highly recommend.
Doing WW spicy butternut and red pepper soup for tea, its zero points and need to save points for a lil drink or 2 later!

SparkySparrow · 14/01/2012 13:28

TartyMcFarty · 14/01/2012 13:43

Flojo, are you getting the recipes from the website?

Flojo1979 · 14/01/2012 14:01

Got the recipes from the meetings and the Daily Mail all last wk did weight watchers booklets with diff chefs.
But the recipes are all on WW website which I assume can be accessed by non members?

SparkySparrow · 14/01/2012 14:05

I got the booklet's from the Daily Mail last week to! There's some really nice recipe's in there that I want to try!

The magazine is very good to!

LollipopViolet · 14/01/2012 14:11

Yes I'm on MFP, I'll have a look there if no joy with the actual website :)

mrspepperpotty · 14/01/2012 14:43

Thanks for the tips talkinpeace. Last night was not too bad and I've been for a run this morning, so just tonight to get right. We're going for an Italian - am sure I'll be able to find a healthy pasta dish.

flojo well done on your weight loss! I am also a no breakfast person usually, but am forcing myself to have porridge or a banana as everyone says how unhealthy it is to skip breakfast. Don't worry about the chocs, it's in the past now so move on and don't let it drag you off the wagon!

Flojo1979 · 14/01/2012 16:34

thanx mrsP, I'll try not to!
Yeah I've picked a couple of recipes out of each one to try Sparky, and if u try some you'll have to let us know if they r any gd or not!

Vicky08 · 14/01/2012 16:38

Hi everyone, I haven't been on in afew days, been so busy with work. I had been doing really well until last night when I ate a pizza and drank a can of pepsi (fizzy drinks are my weakness). Oh well today's another day! Am spending the weekend at the in laws and FIL is a brilliant cook, will have to be strong. So far today I've had a fat free yogurt, some grilled prawns, a grilled chicken breast and a rice cracker, not too bad. I'm going to see if i can get away with some fruit for dinner to make up for last night.

Have to go again now, will catch up with everyone when I have more time later on.

Flojo1979 · 14/01/2012 17:57

Vicky one blip isnt bad at all, i drink fizzy drinks all the time, i just make sure they are diet ones then they have no calories in them, happy days :)

TalkinPeace2 · 14/01/2012 18:07

Flojo
diet fizzy drinks are actually worse for you than full sugar ones
because they release brain chemicals that make you crave more food - am searching for the New Scientist article in another tab at the moment - you are better to avoid fizzy drinks altogether if you can
(says she with a glass of cider on the desk!!)
Vicky
Low fat yoghurt is better than no fat - look at the ingredients list ......
what veg are you having? when I did WW most veg and some fruit was no points and means that you are eating balanced meals for ever rather than diet meals

LollipopViolet · 14/01/2012 19:23

Well, I've done well today, although I'm not happy.

I thought I'd have some crackers and lovely Sweet Chili Philladelphia for lunch. Well, I get the cheese out, and was not impressed.

When cheese begins to support it's own eco system, it's time for the bin.

Had to do the same with the lovely Garlic and herb Philly too :(

Mollyfloss · 14/01/2012 20:27

Hi everyone, well I had a cheat meal on Wednesday and on last night (meals with friends) so not proud of myself so am back on the cruise phase of the Dukan diet. Only another couple of kgs to go. I have a dinner again on Wednesday (weirdly busy socially for January) so I'll aim to be super strict til then and will probably cheat again at that meal realistically. This is not the way Dukan would have it but I'm using breastfeeding as my excuse for the cheat meals and not doing the pure protein days. Hmm

TalkinPeace2 · 14/01/2012 20:34

have you sorted out what you plan to eat when you get to target weight?
Just that Dukan for ever results in the deeply scrawny look .....

NewYearsRevolution · 14/01/2012 21:25

I have had a rubbish week so far. DD1 has been ill, DD2 has been sleeping even worse than usual and my intentions have gone to pot. I have eaten whatever is closest to hand, including a takeaway pizza on Friday night, washed down with two glasses of wine. I am not holding out high hopes for Monday's weigh in.

I need a kick up the arse to try and follow a decent diet tomorrow (not think 'sod it, the week's wrecked anyway') and start a new week clean on Monday.

TalkinPeace2 · 14/01/2012 21:27

not week - each day and hour counts
my kids are older (DD has GCSE A* in being a lippy moo in year 9) but I remember those days
eyes on the prize - go out for a walk tomorrow in the sunshine - to the beach, somewhere different and freshen all your heads

NewYearsRevolution · 14/01/2012 21:33

Good idea - out in the sunshine.

The week bit was kind of what I was trying to say when I said follow a decent diet tomorrow (have had dinner for today). I just meant that Monday is my weigh in day, so I want to be mentally ready for no loss (pleeeeease not a gain) this week and not feeling disheartened.

Vicky08 · 14/01/2012 21:47

Hi all, kids are in bed now so have a bit more time. Firstly, well done lisad and flojo on your weightloss this week, everyone?s doing really well.

My weigh in day is tomorrow but since I?m not at home I?m going to wait and do it on Monday.
I hope you?re feeling better now hathall, I know that when I feel under the weather I crave comfort food, especially carbs and sugar.
Flojo, I like the sound of the spicy butternut and red pepper soup, will have to try something like that out this week. One thing I?m learning is how to use different vegetables.
TalkinPeace2 I?m eating lots of red and green peppers, mushrooms, courgette, cauliflower, onion. Is no fat yogurt really so bad? What?s in it? Have none here to look at it.

Mollyfloss · 14/01/2012 21:48

Talkinpeace: when I reach my target, I'll go onto the Dukan consolidation phase which involves adding fruit, wholemeal bread & cheese etc. I'm doing this diet to reset as had got into some bad habits with Xmas etc and needed to go cold turkey and have a plan to stick to. Hopefully will avoid looking scrawny as I think this happens mainly to people who lose a lot of weight in a short time. I plan to lose 10 lbs in total and then just try to stabilise at that. Although I'm aware as I get older that losing weight too fast results in looking older & scrawny...

TalkinPeace2 · 14/01/2012 21:57

Vicky : All of the no fat foods use all sorts of stabilisers and extras to make the texture of fat - you are basically paying for expensive air and water
and as full fat yogurt is the grand sum total of around 6% .....

Molly : glad you have a clear plan. Some of my gym bunny friends are much much too thin - BMI in the 17 range ....

lisad123 · 14/01/2012 22:02

The garlic bread got better of me Blush o my had 2 pieces so hopefully not too bad. I have swimming and badminton tomorrow so will work it off.
The sugar withdrawal headaches have finally stopped Grin
Weekends are very hard I think. During the week is alot easier IMO
