Who's in for healthy weight loss in 2012?

I'm sat here piling on the pounds over Christmas, not quite having lost those I gained last year!

It's got to the point where it's now or never - DH and I are TTC #2, so I have to get to a healthy weight to give us the best possible chance, which is motivation in itself. I need to lose about half a stone to get into my healthy weight range, but ideally would like to lose another stone on top of that.

I've half-arsedly tried Weight Watchers and Paul McKenna over the last year, and if I gave it a decent shot, either of those would help. The main thing I'm going to do to kick start the weight loss though, is make a new year's resolution to cut right back on junk food, which is my weakness. Basically, if it's not something nutritious, or if there's a healthier alternative, I'm going to try to give it a miss!

Having cancelled my gym membership last year, I joined a running club instead and will be going out with them once a week, and once with my DM. I have a kettlebell and DVD at home, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kettlercise-Just-Women-PLUS-Kettlebell/dp/B0053YNSDY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325074972&sr=8-1 this one, and will continue to use that twice a week. I'll also be going to a PAYG spinning class once a week, and maybe the odd Kettlercise class to vary the routine on the DVD a bit.

So, anybody interested in joining me? I'm not sure whether to go for it immediately from 1st January, or to wait until the 3rd (I have parties to go to on Sunday and Monday, so might be setting myself up for failure). That said, it would be a real buzz to manage a couple of social occasions straight away - they're usually another downfall for me!

Lollipop
glad the gym went well
twice a week is an excellent start. I go 5 days a week which is sad I know !

LollipopViolet · 11/01/2012 16:08

Oh I'd got 5 x a week if I could, but at the moment I'm too achey and have uni to concentrate on as of next week - think the punch bags may get some abuse when the stress mounts.

I've been OK food wise, although the only thing I've eaten is a pot noodle. Must get some healthy stuff in...

TalkinPeace2 · 11/01/2012 16:19

bananas are the snack of choice among my skinny friends

SparkySparrow · 11/01/2012 17:59

Having a really bad day today. :( Can't seem to stop picking! Had porridge for breakfast, soup for lunch, having chicken and roast veg for dinner. Snacks have been, A gingerbread man, go ahead biscuit bar's (which are not as good for you as they would like you to think!) , a handful of haribo sweet's, and 3 choc biscuit's! I think it's down to the fact that its nearly my time of the month, but I'm so disappointed in myself, was doing so well!
Luckily there's not that much 'bad' stuff in the cupboard's otherwise I think I would have had the lot today!
Hopefully get back on track tomorrow!

TalkinPeace2 · 11/01/2012 18:11

Are you doing a food diary?
Write down EXACTLY what you eat and at what time
then you can watch the snacking stop - which will make you feel better in itself
and persuade yourself to have a glass of milk or a banana - both of which are better for you and the milk makes you crave less fatty things

SparkySparrow · 11/01/2012 18:17

Yes got a food diary on the go!
Iv'e been ok so far, been choosing fruit as a snack. Just feeling a bit low today, and compleatly caved. Haven't tried the milk, will do that later if the craving's come back. Thank's :)

TalkinPeace2 · 11/01/2012 18:41

What are you drinking?
The best tip I had when I did WW years ago was that nine times out of ten when you think you are hungry you are in fact thirsty
a glass of water or a cup of tea and then plenty of activity (tidy a shelf in a wardrobe) staves off the urge to snack.

drywhiteplease · 11/01/2012 18:44

sparky don't give up! Just brush yourself off and don't think about the naught ystuff.keep going.

SparkySparrow · 11/01/2012 18:45

I haven't had as much water today, maybe that's why. The last week or so Iv'e been having between 1.5 and 2 litre's. I've probably only managed half that today.

SparkySparrow · 11/01/2012 18:47

Thank's drywhiteplease . I'm sure I'll be ok, just having a really bad day!
Iv'e done better than I have before, and I'm not going to give up now!!

Vicky08 · 11/01/2012 19:09

well done mrspepperpotty. Today is my time of the month SparkySparrow and I had a battered fish for lunch! Am just going to have some fruit for dinner, although I had lunch quite late so I'm not actually that hungry. Apart from that I've had a good day.

When I get the urge to snack I also try to drink some water or do something to keep me busy and take my mind of it and I'm finding that as the days go by the urge, although it's still there, it is getting more and more controllable.

Hathall · 11/01/2012 20:16

I'm having a bad day too! Work is getting stressful again and I've not had time to prepare decent food.

Snap Vicky I just chucked battered fish in the oven today too for lunch. I had no time to cook so ended up ordering pizza for the kids (working from home) I had one slice.

lisad123 · 11/01/2012 21:10

5lb in first week!! Grin

TalkinPeace2 · 11/01/2012 21:29

WELL DONE
what specific things can you pin it to (as a motivator for those feeling less successful) ?

lisad123 · 11/01/2012 21:59

I can pin it to knowing Im not happy with myself, that my husband is doing it with me and that i have no temptations in the house at all!

TalkinPeace2 · 11/01/2012 22:04

And with his support and the food in the house not a temptation you have the best possible chance.
Go for it.

putyourhatonsweetie · 12/01/2012 03:29
