January couch to 5k - who's with me?

Santageekmum · 26/12/2011 11:59

I am massively overweight and have never run before but am planning on starting the nhs couch to 5k plan in January (first Thursday in fact).

Who would like to don their trainers and join me?

Also if anyone has a good sports bra to recommend, I'm bf and a 40dd at the moment and need a new one for running.

He is hardcore. Respect.

I think at the moment even fun runs are out of my reach. But who knows what 2012 will bring?

Agreed - if I can get off Week 1 I will be happy with that as my January achievement I think!

Santageekmum · 30/12/2011 14:07

DH is bribing me with presents if I get down to certain bmi values. Wonder how soon I'll get one?

Good playlist geekmum! Have bought a compilation album and will download some of them. Still waiting for my ipod to be delivered though...

Don't think I would have been brave enough to tackle the weather today. Absolutely vile here - horizontal rain/sleet. Very cold and dark. Ugh.

openyerlugholes · 30/12/2011 14:34

Mudwiggle, loved your earlier motivational post!!

Good recommendation for 'mapmyrun'. Will look into that.

fatcaaah · 30/12/2011 16:06

ooooooh my parcel have just arrived from Sports Direct!

I may even go for my first run today!!

fatcaaah · 30/12/2011 16:07

NoseyNooNoo · 30/12/2011 16:32

Sorry ThePathans - don't know where that autocorrect came from!

I'd like to join in please.

I started running for the first time ever last January. I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and was always 100% certain that I couldn't run. Right up until I started. I get some pains, but I get pain anyway, so I'll take the slightly virtuous pain. I did my own cobbled-together version last year and went from running for 30 seconds (me! running!). I did the race for life in July and ran (and walked and staggered a little bit) around in 36 minutes.

I've lost nearly two stone since I started. Even my arms look more toned (my arms!).

The problem now is that on some days my heart and lungs want to carry on but my legs are done or the other way round, so I want to start from scratch and get everything strong together.

And - for anyone who is feeling a bit self-conscious - runners will look at you and see another runner and those who don't run are jealous

I'm starting tomorrow morning.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 30/12/2011 16:49

I did it! I made fat dog do it too.

I was ok.

I dont like the music on the podcasts though. Not my sort of thing at all.

Well done everyone who ran today and welcome to all the newbies Grin

openyerlugholes · 30/12/2011 16:52

I am going to have a tantrum of mammoth proportions if there isn't a knock on the door soon....

Well done mrsdevere!

Aseaandthreestars · 30/12/2011 17:06
OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 30/12/2011 17:32

Thank you Grin

I had to run in my tan velour trackie (oh the shame) because I dont really have any sports wear. Its what I do my housework in.

I am sure the neigbours are still laughing at me. Sports wear is big round here but nobody actually does any actual sport IYSWIM!

Aseaandthreestars · 30/12/2011 17:42

Yeah, well I started in my old trackie bottoms and I've now got toned arms Grin. And I haven't had a cold for a year.

openyerlugholes · 30/12/2011 17:48

It came! It came yippee!! Thank you argos. And yodel, you have redeemed yourselves!

Will have a mess around with my shiny new ipod tonight and see if I can manage to load stuff onto it. Then I might actually do some running instead of just bumping my gums about it!

Santageekmum · 30/12/2011 18:05

Welcome Aseaand

Well I hope I get toned arms, my bingo wings have always been a bugbear of mine! And I'm only in my twenties Blush so am looking to see out this decade by getting fit... Gives me a deadline of July!

Hurrah for the latest shopping deliveries and runs. I like the idea of a velour track suit! I will be running in leggings, tshirt and hoodie so nothing glamourous. Was thinking that DH could buy me some gear once I hit a bmi of 30. Wink

Panadbois · 30/12/2011 18:15

I bought a light running coat yesterday, size 16, abd I can't do up the zip Sad

Must be a small 16.

Haziedoll · 30/12/2011 18:24

I would love to get toned arms.

How does running tone the arms?

Santageekmum · 30/12/2011 18:27

Hazie you have to flap them wildly whilst running!

Pan Sad about the coat but it won't be long hopefully before you can zip it up!

fatcaaah · 30/12/2011 18:40

I went for my first run! Was so excited about the lovely, yellow jacket and scary running leggings that were delivered I had to go!

It was cold, dark and raining but I bloody loved it!

Podcast was great and very encouraging, I even smiled a couple of times!

fatcaaah · 30/12/2011 18:41

Well done everyone else that started today too, feels great doesn't it?!
