January couch to 5k - who's with me?

Santageekmum · 26/12/2011 11:59

I am massively overweight and have never run before but am planning on starting the nhs couch to 5k plan in January (first Thursday in fact).

Who would like to don their trainers and join me?

Also if anyone has a good sports bra to recommend, I'm bf and a 40dd at the moment and need a new one for running.

Yehudwl - I'll take your 13 stone and add 1 - once I clear this damn cough and cold I'll be out on the roads really is great reading all these updates.

Does anyone have a high vis vest jacket type thingy that will fit a busty size 16 to recommend? I find sportswear really depressing as I seem to be XL in most makes!

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 29/12/2011 16:38

OMG! I have managed to load it all to my ipod AND work out how to turn the volume up (21st century here I come!).

Got some trainers somewhere.

So I think I will start..........

TOMMOROW!!!!

I am terrible for waiting for the 'first' or Mondays or something. Break the habit of a life time and start something on a random day of the year. So 30th December it is then.

Wish me luck eek.

I used to be able to run 5k in 20 odd minutes. One day.....

Santageekmum · 29/12/2011 16:42

Welcome haziedoll

I've just bought bra, socks and trainers so no going back now! Eeeeeeeek!

Ps I'm nearer the 15st mark (maybe over!) Blush

I got my trainers today- Nike jobs from the outlet centre, £50 reduced to £30. V comfy cos they are a 7.5, just my size. All set now, just need to start!

OK lightweight ladies, I've lost 2.5st on Slimming World since October and have another EIGHT to go before I'm not OBESE, goodness knows how many till a normal weight! So I'll be hauling my bulk around pretty slowly (to start with) and looking at the scales with interest each week!!

debka · 29/12/2011 17:17

Mrs DV just reread your post about starting tomorrow- can I start with you please?

Ishtar2410 · 29/12/2011 17:29

Can I join you debka (and Mrs DV)? I ran the race for life in June - done very little since (in fact, haven't run for a good six weeks...). So, I'm starting a couch to 5k plan, with a view to getting back in the habit of running and to (hopefully) lose the 9lbs that has crept on in the last year.

Day one, tomorrow. Better dig out my Nike+ thingy!

MABS · 29/12/2011 17:51

i will be drinking my bodyweight in champers tomorrow with good friends :( so won't start til tuesday. See I am full of excuses !!

GypsyMoth · 29/12/2011 17:55

I will probably start tomorrow too... I ordered some stuff off sports direct last night and it arrived this morning!! How's that? And it was free delivery.

Labourlost.... High vis top/ jackets are on sports direct website, about a fiver.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 29/12/2011 19:24

Of course! More the merrier and you can nag me if I slack off.

Now I HAVE to start tomorrow cos I said so on MN Grin

openyerlugholes · 29/12/2011 19:24

Well done those starting tomorrow! If my ipod arrives early enough, and I work out what to do with it (a BIG if!) then I will join you too!

MABS enjoy! Envy

debka · 29/12/2011 19:26

What time are you going out mrsdv? I'll be going about 7.30 after I get the DDs in bed.

Stylelostinlabour · 29/12/2011 19:32

Hi vis arm bands ordered and two thermal long sleeve tops - wondering if I need anything else like a wind/waterproof?

thestringcheesemassacre · 29/12/2011 19:45

Run 1 wk 2 down!! Whoop. Twas hard but good.
Will really need the kick when dh goes back to work as that will mean pre 7 or post 8pm runs. Boo

dearprudence · 29/12/2011 19:52

I'll join. Good luck everyone, and well done to those who have started.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 29/12/2011 19:58

I will probably go out in the morning. OH usually works evenings so no point in getting used to evening running.

I have just ordered a load of fluro pink stuff from sports. com. Haha.

Santageekmum · 29/12/2011 20:03

Welcome Dearprudence and Ishbar

Good luck on those starting tomorrow, I may join you now I have my new shoes, depends on DH (he kinda needs a lot of notice to do things like look after DS!).

If I do go out it'll be 8:30 so dark and cold, I don't have any hivis stuff, so if you're near the Woking area be careful of fat runners!

Santageekmum · 29/12/2011 20:03

Sorry Ishtar

Panadbois · 29/12/2011 20:16

I'm set to go tomorrow morning too. Weather forcast says its dry at 9am.

Please don't let me die Blush

tribpot · 29/12/2011 20:25

Panadbois, I think you're allowed to stop if you think you might die! You can always walk the run sections first time out.

I started off by getting an armband for my iPhone, instantly lost it and so now have to just carry my iPhone. Hoping the armband might turn up soon.

I have felt like death on a plate ever since I rashly said I might try and go out the following morning :( I think I might try and have a shamble about outside tomorrow before collapsing back into bed.

AbbyLou · 29/12/2011 21:54

sidles in but doesn't quite dare to join

PaddingtonsMarmalade · 29/12/2011 21:58

ah AbbyLou - g'wan you know you want to Grin

I'm supposed to be asleep as DS will be awake loads from now til 5am - when he reckons the day starts. Instead I'm eyeing up an ipod armband thingy and beanie and hi vis jacket thingummy. hmmmmm Grin

AbbyLou · 29/12/2011 22:01

I do want to, I really do. I'm just scared. I am so unfit and not a natural runner. But I so, so want to lose some weight and get fit.

Stylelostinlabour · 29/12/2011 22:07

Abbylou - it's ok to be scared I'm sure a lot of us feel exactly the same I know I do but I also know that I will do it and the first time I do will be amazing.

So come on you've got this far only one need to set a date :)

fluffytowels · 29/12/2011 22:10

Abbylou, the great thing about it is there isn't very much running at all Wink. I was convinced people would stop their cars to laugh and point first time out but noone did.

Week 1 is just 1 min running and then a walk, then repeat. Also the good thing about starting in winter is that it's dark, no bugger is about and you need layers!

Panadbois · 29/12/2011 22:17

I'm scared too. So unfit. This is something I have to try do. It has to work, but I'm dreading the burning lungs and the joint pain next day. (suffer from palandromic rheumatism but I'm thinking that being over weight makes this worse)

I'm also a bit excited, truth be known Smile
