So, here we have our nice new little thread. No food type is banned from being mentioned. It is Xmas afterall Xmas Wink. So pull up a comfy chair, I've put a good film on the telly for you, put some logs on the fire and laid out some snacks. We have stollen, mince pies, chocs, shortbread, smelly cheese and crackers, wine and baileys.

Feel free to add anything else!

This thread will self destruct later in the new year, so don't worry about confessing to eating naughty nibbles, or putting on the odd pound (or 8).

Enjoy, and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Xmas Grin

Scarlett!! Wink Lovely to see you! Hope that the 100,000 biscuits weren't too stressful in the end. You are joining us at the perfect time - we are all lardy after Christmas, and all going to lose stones and stones for various Spring goals. That two stone will be off in no time and then you can put on four or five when you immediately get pregnant

kid · 03/01/2012 19:37

I just made spaghetti carbonara out of this months magazine and it was delicious. So quick and easy too.

TheScarlettPimpernel · 03/01/2012 19:59

Cheese your advice is sound. I have BOTTOM TROUBLES that I am prepared to arse on about at the drop of a hat, and thus have to take this ridiculous stuff called Movicol (seriously. I mean seriously. Imagine going to the pharmacist to collect 50 sachets of that stuff. Why don't they just call it Shit-Me-Quik Hmm ), so i have had 2 sachets this evening, so I have a nice big poo, prior to the Weigh In Of Calamity tomorrow....

Oh and Cheese, re. SW and MFP - The reason I have switched to calorie counting is that SW wasn't working. Once I had started using myfitnesspal I realised that I was simply eating far too many calories because I was taking the piss re. Free Food. You might find it interesting to work out how many cals you are actually consuming even if you stick to SW...

PIx!!! Hello my old mucker! Do you know, it ended up 120,000 biscuits, and although it nearly killed me,do you know, i miss it?! MENTAL, I tell you. CERTIFIABLY SO. Really lovely to see you. How has the Dooming gone - are you pouring yourself into skinny jeans these days?

Kid was that a SW recipe for spag carb??? What was in it?

Finally, can I just draw you attention to TWO WHOLE HOURS of fat telly tonight .

Cheeseandbiscuits · 03/01/2012 20:29

Aah movicol. You poor thing. I had months of lactulose after DD, misery. I am also slobbing out in front of the TV, fat fighters then biggest loser! I'm shattered and I just want to eat chocolate.
Will check out MFP now.

SlinkyB · 03/01/2012 20:47

Goodness gracious me; I pop to Wales for the day and come back to find you've all been chatting away endlessly! Erm, may struggle to catch-up, but this is what my tiny pathetic mind can remember:

cheese sorry to hear of snot-full-ness, hope you and DD are soon better. Have you had the mini-Magnum yet?!
bee hmmm, that fib was pretty twisted Confused. Let's hope it's the last. One of dp's colleagues put on 13lbs over the festive season Shock - there's always someone out there who's done better than you! Or should that be worse? Wink.
kid get well soon, I reckon it's work that's made you ill, I mean, it can't be good for a person in the long run surely.
ria well done on the Christmas weight-loss, def illegal, but we're a pretty liberal lot so we'll forgive you.
Scarlett Hello! Nice to have some new (old?) blood .
Hi pixie.

It's my very last day of maternity leave today, after a whole year off . Oh, I learnt something the hard way the other night; do not stay up late on your own, watching Adele Live, whilst scrap-booking your pfb's 1st year whilst drinking a pint of Baileys. Blubfest. Ah well.

Not sure I'll have time to WI tomorrow, so I did it this morning (will pm you tomorrow night cheese). I've got to set the alarm for 6.30am, and leave the house with ds at 7.45am...we don't usually wake up til around 7.30 - 8am, it's going to be a nasty shock. If I totally dread my first day back, it'll be fine, right? I once read a little postcard which said:

"today is the tomorrow I worried about yesterday,
and all is well".

Which I kinda liked .

TheScarlettPimpernel · 03/01/2012 20:56

Hi Slinky

Anyone going to be watching The Biggest Loser? I've just started a thread to chat about it Grin And yes I realise this is lame

Cheeseandbiscuits · 03/01/2012 21:29

Nope, no mini magnum yet. And I'm not going to Have one either! Smile

I hope tomorrow goes ok slinky. I will be thinking of you!

Hedgepig · 03/01/2012 21:36

Evening, wocha Bloof Scarlet nice to see you back hurrah the Witch has gone

Slinky I hope you have a good day tomorrow, just think you will be able to have a hot cup of coffee for a change

I have had a good day, only 1 biscuit all day (proper food too, but only 1 biscuit), nice SW chicken curry for tea

SlinkyB · 03/01/2012 22:19

Thanks guys. Don't mean to brag or nuffink hedge, but, erm, I've managed to drink copious amounts of hot tea all day whilst on maternity leave somehow? hence the even yellower teeth now. Well done on biscuit-dodging, I gave dp a huge box to take to work this am, just one more to give away, and a huge box of Thornton's, and we're nearly there with de-junking the house.

Oh yeah, I sometimes forget this is a diet thread (not watching Biggest Loser btw) so guess I ought to regale you with my wonderful calorie-counting efforts and six-mile jogs? Umm...I had a Big Mac on Saturday, and a Krispy Kreme doughnut on Sunday, as well as kids party food today (Great Nephew's 2nd Birthday, would've been rude not to).

But I've just been upstairs to try on the new, size 14, pairs of trousers I bought a couple of weeks ago, and they're embarrassingly tight and unflattering on the stomach/torso area Blush. Feel like a fat, greedy, pig now, but am now more determined to get fit so I'll feel more confident at work (need all the help I can get there, really don't fit in).

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/01/2012 22:19

Fark me - how's a girl supposed to keep up with this amount of posting?!

Um, hello everyone, old and new!

you aren't alone in losing weight over Christmas ria Wink

Right, lentil & egg kedgeree....

1 large onion, peeled & chopped
2 tsp mild curry powder
250g basmati rice
50g red or yellow split lentils
1 bay leaf
1 cinnamon stick
650ml chicken stock
salt/pepper
8 large eggs
chopped coriander to garnish

spray large fry pan with frylight.
high heat, add onion. stir fry 2-3mins then add curry powder, rice, lentils, bay leaf + cinnamon stick. stir and fry for 1-2 mins
pour in stock, season, bring to boil.
cover tightly, reduce heat + cook gently for 15 mins. remove from heat and let it stand undisturbed for 10-12 mins.
whilst standing, boil eggs to your liking. shell and halve and set aside.
remove lid from rice, fluff up with fork and spoon into 4 bowls/plates. top each serving with 4 egg halves. sprinkle over chopped coriander and serve immediately.

Feel free to copy it onto the recipe thread anyone who can find it!

TSP - is there a known cause for your infertility, or just a case of nothing happening but no idea why? I last did sw after a m/c (had taken 3.5yrs to conceive in the first place), and managed to lose nearly 4 stone in total I think, before I gave birth to my first Grin.

kid · 03/01/2012 23:24

Scarlett the carbonara had spaghetti (pasta), bacon cut into 2cm cubes, garlic, egg and parmeson cheese. It really was delicious and took about 15 minutes from start to ready to eat. Thats my kind of cooking Grin

Slinky best of luck at work tomorrow, hope it goes well. Hopefully the time will go really quickly and you'll be back home before you know it.

grinningbee · 03/01/2012 23:29

Good luck in the morning Slinky! Hope it all goes smoothly Smile

Cheeseandbiscuits · 04/01/2012 07:52

Oh csws that looks delish. Isn't there haddock in kedgeree?

Ive weighed in, bloody hell. It's pretty bad, I'm so embarressed! And very impressed with csws and ria!

Food today:
B: fruit and ff yog
L: lentil and bacon soup (synfree of course)
D: ham and artichoke tagliatelle with side salad
Snacks: milk for tea and coffee (HEA) fruit, ml yog, branflakes (heb) and ff yog

Right don't forget to pm me the stats!

grinningbee · 04/01/2012 08:18

Morning all!

Hope the ill bods are feeling better, and the back to work bods are not too nervous/stressed/upset.

Ds is still asleep Envy. We seem to have cured the night waking, but at a cost . We are currently sleeping in the sitting room Hmm. I sleep on the sofa, and H is on the floor with the king sized duvet. While it is nice not to be awake for hours during the night, the black rings under the eyes tell me I am not getting the best sleep! Still, at least I have my own little space at night with no intrusion Wink.

Food for the day:

Weetabix and a banana
Cheese triangles on toast, fruit and a yogurt
Left over quorn chilli and rice

Cheese No need to feel bad about a gain, honestly. Most of us have done it, and mine over the 2 weeks is in double figures. I'll pm you now so you can see Blush.

Hiya Scarlett....don't think I've had the pleasure but lovely to meet you :-)
Does MFP work well with slimming world? I was using it before but have slackened off since starting this

Dreading weigh in tonight although I haven't been too bad food wise as my stupid period has made an appearance early and its my own fault as I've skipped a couple of pills
We spent Friday night until the early hours at the hospital with DS2(16 months) who was vomitting continously since bedtime with him on a drip to rehydrate. Got home at 4.30am,hoping Ds1(27 months) and DS2 would sleep in but they both woke up at 8am.
There followed 2 days of vomitting from fhem both then a day of me getting it.
Oh the joys of motherhood!
Ok whine over :-)

TheScarlettPimpernel · 04/01/2012 09:21

Morning all!

Not weighed in yet. I refuse to weigh in until I've had a poo. So there.

hi Hedge deario! So nice to see everyone still here!

CSWS that kedgeree looks lush. I heart kedgeree tres much, mostly made with Lidl smocked mackerel which costs about tuppence ha'penny Grin

CSWS 'tis all a mystery why we can't get up the spout. It's been 2 years of carefully timed shagging and though I ovulate like clockwork and DH's swimmers are all in good nick, nothing happens. They think I conceive but it can't stick because I have odd bleeding patterns and it can't implant (sorry everyone for talking of such things on a diet thread Grin). Congrats on your little one :) I'm always so glad to hear of people getting their little'uns even after a long weight, and I do live in hope that we might conceive naturally. Losing weight can only help...

Hiya Huff! MFP is better than SW for me, because my problem is portion control rather than the kind of good I eat, and MFP makes you monitor that quite rigidily. On SW I am more than capable of eating so much FF I don't lose any weight Blush. I reckon that if you were doing SW and not losing, you could use MFP to see how many cals you were eating. But if SW is working for you then no real need for MFP I don't think...

TheScarlettPimpernel · 04/01/2012 09:22

*long WAIT not long weight! Ha!

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/01/2012 09:54

arf at long weight - how freudian! I have 3dc now tsp - the 2nd took 14 months of trying and the third was unplanned! Losing weight def can't hurt your chances. I also gave up alcohol and caffeine, and made dh give up alcohol too. I presume that neither of you smoke?

yes kedgeree normally has smoked haddock in, but this recipe was from a book pre EE days, so it was designed to be free on green. I do sometimes add fish now.

TheScarlettPimpernel · 04/01/2012 10:04

I am an occasional social smoker, which both the GP and the acupuncturist I saw just shrugged at. DH doesn't smoke or drink much, and I don't drink much, though I do like my coffee Grin

I am a picture of health altogether - despite my weight, I've got low blood pressure, low cholesterol, have only had 1 sexual partner so have had no STIs, am very rarely ill, have never been in hospital, come from an insanely fertile famil and was 30 when I started TTCing - so why I can't conceive is a bit of a mystery. I'm not too mizz about it though - I was when the problems first became apparent, but you can't sustain being miserable every month for year after year, it's just not good for you. I am focusing on bonking myself silly as much as possible (oddly, TTC has been really really good for our sex life Hmm) and by hook or by crook, whether by nature or medicine, I shall get the damned baby Grin

Sorry for massive thread hi-jack btw. On food matters, today I will eat:

B - Croissant (DH has some vouchers for a posh French bakery and wants us to have a late breakfast together in town - before going to the museum at the Royal College of Surgeons where I'll probably throw up what i have just eaten...)

L - prawns in a tomatoey sauce with some home-made flatbreads; stewed apple and low fat yog

T - a pal is coming and we'll have jasmine tea and nibble on something healthy (she knows the urgency of my shedding the flab!)

TheScarlettPimpernel · 04/01/2012 10:24

I'm just going to carry on cluster-posting the thread to buggery, FYI Grin

I have just weighed myself....and I didn't gain weight over Christmas Shock Shock Shock Grin Grin Grin

I'm about half a stone less than I thought I was, so I feel VERY cheerful.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 04/01/2012 10:27

csws thanks for the recipe, I'm going to try it at the weekend. Nom nom. 3 kids, that's great! How's the ear?

huffers much sympathy bout the vom bug. Maybe it will have helped the weight loss . Hope DS is on the road to recovery

Thanks for the sympathy bee. I can guarantee you weigh less than me and have been doing it much less time. Sigh.

LakeFlyPie · 04/01/2012 10:29

Morning all Smile

Can I sheepishly join the ranks of the festive gainers Blush
I have troughed in a disgraceful manner, gained accordingly and now my revolting muffin top has returned.
Unfortunately I joyously got rid of my size 16 jeans in November when I was eating like a sensible person so will have to suffer the shame of wearing too tight trews until the flab melts away.

No time to catch up on thread properly as have 2 marauding boys causing chaos around me but quick hallo to TSP, good to see you back.

Will pm you Cheese with my shameful weigh in results and catch up properly this evening.

grinningbee · 04/01/2012 10:39

TSP you hijack as much as you want. I am currently talking diets (or larding up over Xmas) and lamenting about H at the mo.

The museum visit sounds interesting and a bit, erm, gory? Do tell what it's like when you come back - isn't Burke of Burke and Hare fame kept there in skellybob form?

Arf at smocked mackerel too - I hope they come decently smocked Wink.

I've just had a very interesting phonecall from H. You may or may not remember (or care!) that we are currently residing in a 2 bed wardinated bungalow the size of a shoe box. H had a call this morning to arrange a meeting on Monday as there is a house coming available.... in our village! And they said house. No idea where, or if it is bigger, but I can't see them moving us from a 2 bed to another 2 bed? I'm a mixture of excited and sad, but that's way too previous yet. Said house needs renovations doing apparently, and will be ready in 6-8 weeks.... but I suppose we'll find out the proper details on Monday. I can't go to the appointment as dd starts back at playgroup, and it clashes. Bugger!

Oh I really want some chocolate, and the dc are munching chocolate reindeer Envy.

OP posts:
grinningbee · 04/01/2012 10:45

Yay for the weight loss over Xmas TSP! And post away, tis good.

Cheese I've probably been overweight since you were knee high to a grasshopper, so don't worry!! Anyway, you'll catch me up just watch.

Lake I too suffered in the jeans department. It's a bugger, isn't it!

I must try and find the latest copy of the SW magazine. It could be anywhere in here... need some new recipes, although colonic pie is on the menu for this week Wink.

Ds just sneezed chewed chocolate reindeer over me. How thoughtful....

OP posts:
Cheeseandbiscuits · 04/01/2012 12:18

We are also having colonic pie bee, its on Mon night I think. I am looking forward to trying it.

So far I have been very productive, downstairs hoovered, kitchen cleaned, ham baked for tonights supper, lentil soup made and fed to DD. Dreading that nappy!

bee that is good news. Hoorah, huzzah! Fingers crossed for you, thats awesome. Maybe your new sleeping arrangements will improve!

LFP welcome back me mucker! Its the same here in the jeans department Sad

TSP you will def get upduffed somehow. Doesn't really matter how does it?
Have a lovely day out, let me know how it went at RCOS - DH is banging on about going to that. Well jell of the loss over Xmas, you are 1/4 way towards your 2stone goal surely.
