GI/GL Diet Support Thread - It's 2006!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The shiny new thread folks !

I'm planning to carry on posting my progress on a Monday, but anyone else who want to should choose a day they feel most comfy with.

I'm going to have a look at the GL diet properly in the next couple of weeks and see where it is similar/different and whether I should change anything now that I am closer to target.

I am aiming to lose another stone (that would be 8 stone in total), but I'd love to get another 2 off where I'd be fitting in a size 10 (I think). I need to see how I look and feel after a stone though as 2 may be going too far.

Good Luck everyone, I personally really appreciate the support of this thread - it has got me where I am now .

sarochka you don't need to do that in order to lose weight! You lost 1lb this week - that's the kind of loss this diet is about - slow but sustainable. You've read the Gallop book so you know you don't have to starve yourself. As puff says, the Food Dr (who I think is generally very sound) just kicks you off with this very strict plan - it's a kind of detox. What follows is much more realistic I think.

I think we're all doing brilliantly

franch · 11/01/2006 20:46

Made the Rick Gallop chocolate drop cookies today (they've got beans and bran in them - the 'chocolate' comes from sweetener + unsweetened cocoa powder in them - I used Green & Black's) - yum YUM. These should definitely keep me from straying. They're very little and the recipe makes 12 so I'm allowing myself 2 as a snack and hoping that'll be OK.

puff · 11/01/2006 21:24

They are delic franch!

sarotchka - please don't think you will only lose weight by eating 3 spoons of porridge at breakfast etc! I usually have a huge bowl!

Although I looked at the Food Doctor book in detail, I didn't look at the quantities in this initial 7 day programme - I would not have done it if I had realised how tiny the portions are!!!

The last 18 months have taught me that I can lose weight consistently by eating plenty of food as long as I make the right choices - you have started well, so keep up the good work, there is no need to starve !

On that note, tonights dinner on the 7 day plan was a bowl of homemade vegetable and bean soup. I trebled the quantity of beans and have also had a couple of oatcakes with hoummus plus a piece of fruit and some yoghurt!

franch · 11/01/2006 22:26

That sounds more like it puff! Have you tried any of Gallop's other baking recipes?

puff · 11/01/2006 22:34

yes - apple pie cookies and some of the muffins (apple again I think). The children like these.

pphew! Think I was being brain dead been writing reports all night - just had some grapes as a snack and about to reread the Gallop book. Is the new family one good? I am a really picky eater and am trying so hard not to push this onto my dd aged 4. I shall keep going and making soup and big bowls of porridge. Has anyone tried rice milk? Does anyone actually like it ? Thanks Franch and Puff for your kind words.

puff · 11/01/2006 22:48

I haven't tried rice milk - seem to remember someone saying it tastes nicer than soya milk (that I'm not keen on).

Just had the chicken, hummus & sweet chilli wrap from the High Energy Cookbook - delicious. Don't think I've ever had so many nice lunches. Helen Foster's crab wrap is gorgeous too.

Hope you're all doing well

melbob · 12/01/2006 19:54

Hi all well done everyone.

We had the chick pea and prune think from AWT last nigth very strange. Am not losing anything and am not sure why.
Typical days have been

porridge or Gallop muesli for
Apple or satsumas
oatcakes plus hounos or tzatziki pear
nut and dried fruit
main meal from GI book.

sarochka · 12/01/2006 20:02

Franch - what;s the high energy cook book > sounds yum what you had

puff · 12/01/2006 20:05

sounds similar to my typical day melbob - how many oatcakes, nuts and dried fruit?

sarochka: High-energy Cookbook: Low-GI Recipes for Weight Loss and Vitality. I recommend it.

MrsDoolittle · 13/01/2006 10:38

Hi Ladies, I actually staretd the GI diet at this stage in my pregnancy because I was getting up so often at night to go to the loo and I was really uncomfortable. However, since doing this for a few day I have say I have slept loads better!! So tha's a good sign.
Unfortunately one of my best friends is coming over tonight with her new fiancee and she loves puddings. I mean, this girl used to belong to a pudding club!
I have a lean mince bolognese sauce with wholemeal pasta planned for the main course. Any idea for pudding ladies? Otherwise I know I am going to end up buying a chocolate trifle

puff · 13/01/2006 10:45

What about poached pears with chocolate sauce? Not too naughty and you can go easy on the choc sauce.

I can't find my recipe but there should loads on the web.

OP posts:
MrsDoolittle · 13/01/2006 10:48

Thanks puff will look. I like the sound of the poached pears but my friend won't. I mean, she is in to 'stodgy' puddings. Those that are definately not allowed and cream.
I will try the web though. Thanks

puff · 13/01/2006 10:53

I'd do something you know she'll love and just have a smaller portion yourself then in that case.

OP posts:
MrsDoolittle · 13/01/2006 12:24

I think you are right. I'm going to have to be STRONG!!!

Saker · 13/01/2006 13:58

Could you do a crumble with oats and wholemeal flour for the topping? Or there's a recipe for orange cake in the AWT book with ground almonds instead of flour. There's a few nice looking puddings in that book I think.

It is hard to stay strong when you actually have to make and serve the pudding!

sportmad · 14/01/2006 10:33

Thanks Puff a lot!!!!Sorry for not responding earlier but this week was so busy that i didn't even have time to sit and check mn.But...good news i lost 8lbs and can not bealive.

Piffle · 14/01/2006 14:35

I've stumbled onto a daily plan that is suiting me really well and am regularly losing a little at a time.
Breakfast either
porridge/poached egg on grainbread/food doc muesli with berries and fat free yoghurt - or for treat 1 x week, lean trimmed back bacon 2 rashers, half baby avocado, grilled tomato greain bread....

snack on grapes, dried apricots and nuts and seeds
Lunch
One slice of grainbread with half carton of convent garden soup - tomato/carrot coriander/pean and ham plus a pear or apple

snack 2 nairns ginger bisuits

Dinner
chicken/ham/pasta/eggs brown basmati rice, mixed bean salad and green salad. Varying the veges a lot to avoid being dull! Can have a brown pitta with it as well. Vary your meat for fish/lean steak as well...

I drink 2-3 cups of tea, 4 cups of hot water and slive of lemon plus 3 half pints of water.
Doing this for two weeks I've lost nearly 3 kgs and feel really good, am sleeping better too.

melbob · 14/01/2006 15:46

Ok I am so hacked off DH bought new scales and I weigh 1.75 stones more on them than the old ones . I know I haven't put that weight on and that its just a case of carrying on but....

Saker · 14/01/2006 19:51

Oh Melbob, how demoralising . Do you know that the new ones are right and the old ones are wrong? It seems a massive difference.

puff · 14/01/2006 20:02

Well done sportmad and piffle !

Melbob - - scales can be notoriously "out" - not usually by that much though. Of course you haven't put that weight on, but it's a shock to get such a different reading I'm sure.

OP posts:
puff · 14/01/2006 20:03

If you can get to a Boots melbob - weigh yourself there, just to check your weight against the new scales.

OP posts:
melbob · 14/01/2006 20:23

Checked my weight on my Mum's and the new ones seem to be right ie I am (alot) heavier than I thought. What's odd is that DH and DS weight he same on either one. I am so demoralised
