This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches so forget diets, they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. The Paul McKenna system works and is easy to maintain.

Hello! Can I join in?

I have some pretty serious food issues I am trying to sort out, dieting does not work for me (especially as I'm bfing a newborn!), have read the book but couple of practical questions...

How do you manage family meals? I have 3DDs (little one not eating yet though) and I don't want to become a short order cook, I just don't have time for it.

Do you meal plan? How? I really need to stick to budget and have some idea of what I'm doing or we end up eating more take away than is good for us.

Nice to see you! You have chosen wisely and the brilliant thing is that it is totally compatible with bfing asI know Alibaba will agree (she has been doing this since before her youngest started solids). How old is your youngest? Are you still up at night all the time? That can be a killer for your appetite can't it. I remember mine was all over the place with odd sleeping times and bfing requiring more calories.

WRT family meals, it can get a bit all over the place in the beginning but I found it sorts itself out in the end. You become able to space your meals out how you want them over the course of the day and that it will fit in with the rest of the family. It takes a little while to get in synch and you may find yourself hungry at odd times of the day for a bit. The good thing about PMK is that you can have a guilt free small snack to get your through to your meal times, whatever you fancy really just to take the edge off your hunger, following the principles of savouring it and enjoying it as much as you can, and then you can be hungry again by the time a family meal time comes round. The trick then is to eat less at mealtimes and if you follow the principles you will not want as much anyway. I know how distracting small children can be but if you have half a mind on how you are feeling whilst you are dealing with them, you will learn when you have had enough and you will end up eating much less.

I totally agree about not wanting to be a short order cook btw. I can never understand how people put up with cooking 2 or 3 different meals in a day - I have had enough doing 1! Blush. We eat quite late by a lot of people's standards but it works for us.

My problem is, I don't eat a lot, but what I do eat is crap because I'm just so lazy/unimaginative when it comes to meals. I have two DC who I feed well Wink but my DH works away all week and so by the time I've got the DC to bed, I just grab a sandwich or a bowl of cereal!

Are you all eating healthily, salads etc. or just eating what you fancy in moderation?

I think in the beginning you eat what you want in moderation but in the end you want to eat more healthily. You do get to a point where you can't lose any more weight unless you change what you eat. That is what I have found anyway. Your calorie intake, although we don't think of it in those terms, has to reduce because you need less to maintain your current body weight.

It is tied up in your self esteem too I think. If you lose a bit of weight and your feel a bit better about yourself, you don't want to spoil it all by eating crap. You want to have an apple instead of a biscuit. If you get to that point I think you have cracked it. Sadly I keep getting almost there and then backing off but as we have discussed many times on these threads, a lot of us are prone to self sabotage and I know I certainly am!! Blush

I totally agree with the self sabotage! Once I'm in the right mindset, I'm fine, but it's just getting there. I've put a few lbs on over Xmas so I've been thinking ah well, I need to lose weight anyway, what difference will one more biscuit make?

Also, I can't bear to throw food away so still have the temptation of all the Xmas goodies!

Welcome Msbuggywinkle :) Dieting does not work for most people long term. I reckon it only works long term for the few because they are constantly on their diet rather than enjoying their life meals.

MrsMeow I don't eat salad much unless I fancy it ~ I do love salad though. I do eat veg though not 5 a day (can't stretch my budget that far) and occasionally I eat a piece of fruit ~ again it's just too expensive for me, which is a sad factor for many families these days.

I dislike cooking different meals for different people too, but Dd just can't be my child genuinely dislikes onion, mushroom, peppers and tomatoes which are a staple of my pasta dishes and Dd loves pasta so I have to cook hers separately.

I don't know about meal planning, but making up a meal for the family that you can fridge/freeze and reheat is worth considering and then just sit with the family at the table whilst they eat. You can drink something or just chat.

pp I used to do a fab impression of JSP Grin. I can take or leave her really, but I was very surprised to see her on LW.

I hate throwing food away too. What you learn to do is cook less and serve less or freeze a left over portion for another time.

MrsMeow, put all the Christmas goodies into the charity shop or offer them on Freecycle.

I have just finished (night before last) a Christmas pudding. I did it on a whim really as it's one that I'd bought several Christmases ago, but I discovered that the Dc's didn't like it. I ate it over a longish period, but I have discovered that I now find them too sweet for me.

Solo, thank you, that helps a lot! I know what you mean about the 5 a day, it's just too expensive isn't it? Especially if you try and ensure the whole family does the same.

I've just been through the goodies, there isn't actually as much there as I thought to be honest, most of it is the DCs selection boxes etc. I'm not that fussed about choc so won't be tempted unless I get lazy again! I have just binned half a box of mince pies and a tub of cream though to make sure I don't pig it!!

solo JSP hates mid. aged white men (DH used to work with a lot of people who she worked with and we met her behind the scenes of a show he said hello and chatted as you do, not as a starfxxxxx Grin and she just cut him dead, she wasn't very nice to P.M. either was she?) BTW P.M. IS looking good he's not in a relationship so a chance for you eh? Grin

Mrs.M and solo C'mon now how much do carrots and onions, squashes beetroot turnips etc. cost? they are CHEAP ffs!!!! A bag of apples and pears won't cost much either much less than the 'ready made' dishes in the supermarkt. If you shop seasonally in the markets it's a guarantee you could do 5 a day no probs.

Now see, I do buy veg pp but they add up to an extortionate amount. I make sure that there are satsumas in the bowl and often bananas, but my own budget is £30 to £35 pw. That's everything, cleaning stuff, loo rolls, milk, bread...everything. I mean, I can spend £4pw on just bread and milk. Apples are several £'s, broccoli and cauliflowers are very expensive. I rarely buy meat and I only buy own brand cereals for the Dc's...even the kids own brand juice is horrendously priced. I rarely buy treats for any of us either. There's no wonder my Ds feels hard done by :(

Pp, yes they ARE cheap and I do buy fruit & veg, but if there's 4 people in your family and you're trying to make sure they get their 5 a day, that's 20 pieces a day!

We don't go food shopping once a week, more like 2 or 3 times a month, and it's just not possible to get f & v that doesn't go off before the next shop. Therefore I only buy the bare minimum, the same as Solo really.

We hardly buy meat either Solo, I'd love to know how my parents (family of 7) could manage meat & two veg a few times a week, plus a roast every Sunday!

I know! my Mum always served up a meat meal every single day! and I know that my Dad was on a pittance and Mums income even worse.

I do aim for the reduced produce and I will buy greatly reduced fruit and veg, but it's not always available. I love it, but just can't always get it.

You don't have much of a budget do you? it must be very difficult I didn't mean to be horrid and I understand maybe yr L.O's don't like veg soup or stews whatever I know they can be damned fussy. Maybe they could help with the cooking and budgeting and see how hard it is.

TBH, Ds doesn't give a monkeys about much. He annoys me with his easy come easy go attitude and food is much the same. I got some hot cross buns last week and he sneaks around stuffing them until they're gone. I go to get one for lunch to find there are none left! he's a teen aged nightmare right now. I hope it wont last too long though
Ds will eat anything I put in front of him, but it's never enough, he always feels hungry. I do despair.
Dd is lovely, but only just turned 5 and doesn't have any idea about money.

Stews are fine, but if I made a veg stew, Ds would be Hmm and soups are not enough for them. I do make soups for myself though and find them satisfying.
I have no idea what we'll eat tonight...hmmmmm...

My two don't like soups either which is a shame because they are cheap and filling. I saw a programme once about weight loss and they reckoned that if you ate a meal blended up as soup, obviously with a little bit of water added, it made you feel fuller for longer than if you just ate the food whole. I can't remember the scientific reasoning but it made sense at the time. But as I said, I refuse to do the whole cooking different things for different people so we don't have that much soup in the end.

Solo - do you ever consider canned fruit? It can be cheaper than buying the whole fruit, especially when you consider there is no waste. Canned stuff is supposed to be just as nutrious as fresh, more so sometimes because it is canned before the nutrients have time to deplete. I know that a can of pineapple chunks is cheaper than a whole pineapple (although they can be very cheap these days it seems, not sure why) and you don't have to mess about chopping it up and getting all the brown bits off! Maybe not something for every day but something for a change.

We weren't very well off when we were children and we always had canned peas every day with some fresh veg on Sundays from the garden. Never think to buy them now so I have no idea of the cost.

And don't forget baked beans are a veg - they do count and they are cheap. Shame I can't stand them myself but the children like them.

Thank you bertha that really helps. We eat late in the evening too, we Home Ed our DDs so they don't have to be up early so we eat together when DP gets in which is usually around 7.

Solo frozen fruit can be good too, Sainsburys have some good offers on at the moment, 1.5kg altogether of frozen exotic fruit for £5. I have been using it for morning smoothies.

DD3 is four weeks old today, but is one of those babies who miraculously sleeps, she only wakes once at night and has been like this since day 7. She bfs hourly during the day though!

Anyway, am attacking the new way of eating tomorrow. Hopefully it will be easy enough to fit myself in to everyone else's food...weirdly, this way of eating is the way I manage the DDs food. They have a shelf in the pantry with their snacks on so they can help themselves, I keep sugary/salty foods higher up so they have to want it enough to ask (but I never say no) and I present them with meals that they are free to eat or not. Probably luck really, but they are both amazing eaters...who cost me a bloody fortune in fruit.

Hello!

So, finally I have begun the CD. I haven't started the book yet.

But my first attempt was a bit rubbish. I listened to it all snuggled in bed this afternoon, at 3.30. Fell asleep, woke up at 5.45 - we eat at 5pm normally. Had to panic make tea and then did gobble it a bit so I could exercise at 7pm as planned. I did gobble mindfully though Blush.

I must have needed the rest!

Alibaba - can you focus on your goals, the wedding you want to lose weight for and getting into the next size down? Remember how you felt when you were losing and consider whether eating is making you feel as good as that did (it clearly doesn't).

You've done this before, you can do it again. Kinky is right. Forget about today and start tomorrow afresh. Have an early night and get some sleep which will help with the eating. (Ha, ha - listen to me dishing out the advice on going to bed early but you know it makes sense!)Smile

Alibaba I have the ICMYT app on my phone - it has a panic button for moments like yours. It gives you the option to watch a couple of video clips about emotional eating or a short trance. Really helps to refocus me.

I'm not suggesting you get the app but what about watching some PMK on you tube to refocus you?

Another good day for me. I didn't need many snacks today - just two. I am a chronic snacker. I love a snack Grin but like someone on here said, was it you ppeat?, that you start to naturally space out your meals and no longer need or want to graze.

Today was the first day I didn't think about food all day either Smile

I have stopped eating, I do have wine though but it keeps me out of the cupboards!!

I need to re-read the book, and make the time to do the visualisations. DS1 hasn't started back at preschool yet because of his chicken pox, but he is going on Monday and then I should manage to find a bit of time to myself - if only DS2 will nap, which he doesn't very often. Whoever heard of a 9 month old baby that doesn't nap?!

stripy that is a good idea about the Youtube, it hadn't occurred to me. Perhaps I should get the app.
