Morning Dod'ers!

Here's a nice new shiney list for when the old one is full.

Pull up a squishy chair and feel free to help yourselves to the Sw friendly snacks. Posters from the old room will be moved in shortly Wink.

Hello ladies Xmas Grin

We went out for the dinner last night that we should have had last week. Except that where we were supposed to go had a fire so was closed. We ended up in Frankie and Benny's again. I had one of their Xmas cocktails too... bloody lovely it was. Jack Daniels with Disarono (sp?) and ginger ale. Very very nice, and probably horribly synworthy.

So, just for the record, I had garlic bread with cheese and a couple of dough balls (snap Slinky), potato skins and a burger. No pudding as we were too full. And then we had a glass of wine when we got home and got the dc to bed.

I did however resist opening the chocolate drawer in the fridge, so that was good. (About the only good thing though!)

Today is like this:

Weetabix and a banana
No lunch (cos I've only just got around to eating brekkie)
Left over beef rogan josh and veggies

The list is going to be more of a naughty list, isn't it Xmas Wink Ah well, we've been good most of the time! Tis the season to be jolly and all that Xmas Grin

Cheeseandbiscuits · 11/12/2011 15:38

Xmas Smile haha glad I am not the only one who has been cheating!

slinky I bought him a jacket, boring! Plus some cool Dad socks from DD. And the private eye best of. THat will do!
I will post the recipe for soup now.

Yawn, I might have a snooze as well. My sister has taken DD out for the afternoon. SO far I have cleaned downstairs and made chicken casserole for dinner. She will kill me as I was supposed to be catching up on sleep!

Cheeseandbiscuits · 11/12/2011 15:46

I found the recipe thread

SlinkyBells · 11/12/2011 21:32

Hmm, my dp doesn't need any new clothes/is quite fussy, and he's already been a Dad for 12 years so I can't get some cheesy/fun Dad socks (can I?! Maybe I can) but thanks for sharing! Think he will end up with socks and smellies; boring too! Might treat him and me to some Bailey's.

Oooh, thanks for the soup recipe and link, may try that one too some day! Thicko question, but are the red lentils the dried sort? And would I need to do anything with them before they're used? Never used dried ones before, just the tinned type in bee's lentil pie recipe.

Had a couple of slices of stollen today, and a gingerbread man (made by myself and dss yesterday) but apart from that haven't been too bad today. Am planning on palming off rest of stollen/gingerbread on my sister and her family tomorrow Xmas Wink.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 11/12/2011 21:50

Why about some DS merchandise? I've made Owain an embarressing mug for his workSmile. Or you could buy a racing day or buy a star / segment o the moon for him? Nice aftershave?

It's dried red lentils and nope you don't need to do anything to them!

SlinkyBells · 11/12/2011 22:21

Ah thanks! Hmm, last year I bought him a Segway experience day (as his mates were going so thought he'd like a lad's day out), and the year before I bought him tickets to do an Anfield tour, as he's a Liverpool fan and had never been. A couple of weeks ago, he said to me "erm, please don't buy me any experience days/ticket type things this year" !! Ungrateful so-and-so. Also, I've told him not to spend too much as think we should save the money for house-move/ds. Hoping to go shopping with my sister on Weds, so will see what I can source then.

Right, bed-time for me, night all.

kid · 11/12/2011 23:28

I'm still here, just not posting or browsing actually.
I have so many Xmas preparations to do but I'm not getting very far. 5 more days at work and then I can get stuck in to all the jobs I've been meaning to do. I'm off to bed shortly, but i'll try and catch up with everyone's news and gossip Smile

RiaInExcelsisDeo · 11/12/2011 23:55

one of the QI books slinky? I have bought my DH a "walkers" notebook (it has a Wainwright sketch on the front, otherwise it's just a notebook I think) to log his long walks (he wants to do the Coast-to-Coast next year), and got him an incense burner from a little shop that sold angel cards etc today. Have my eye on a jumper too as I noticed his thick winter one has shrunk in the length and has a hole in it.

spent an hour this afternoon at an "Edwardian (possibly, might have been victorian) christmas street market as DS1 played sleigh bells percussion with the brass band. It rained. Heavily. The musicians were in a tiny gazebo. The poor sods (me) who were holding the collection buckets got wet. Been to friends for dinner this evening. Such rich food. (Very delicious, but a bit rich for me, even if I was on a proper binge.) Also said yes I would taste some whisky liquer (this) and was given a glass the size of a bucket (OK, slight exaggeration, but I don't drink spirit-type things. It was a struggleBlush). Last time we were there almost a whole bottleof that Dissarono stuff was consumed (by only 2 or 3 peopleShock not me I would like to add!)

Dilemma of the day - funeral. My parents have said I can make my own decision about going, and TBH I hadn't planned to, but parents have given me time and place info so I can get time off work, and offered lift, still saying it's my decision. I would prefer it if they just said please come to represent the family. Will ponder.

RiaInExcelsisDeo · 12/12/2011 00:12

BTW, DS1 is being treated for his vomiting etc - dyspepsia and reflux. The GP said she has seen it before in boys of his age, and much worse cases than his. So he is now on a tablet which reduces stomach acid (I think). GP said it would get him through christmas. Am monitoring him closely though, as he is afraid to eat because of the vomiting etc, and according to the Wii, is losing weight (not good because he is skinny anyway), which he will be because he is eating dry toast for breakfast, and gave up tea (so no milk), although I did get him to drink his first cup of tea for about 4 weeks this weekend, and he hardly snacks anymore. He is edging to the bottom of the "healthy weight" rangeSad. If he loses more we will be back at GP very quickly. Am hoping he will gain a little over christmas. None of the boys had reflux as babies so I have no idea what I'm dealing with.

grinningbee · 12/12/2011 09:45

Morning all!

Ria Glad ds is being treated. I can understand he's nervous of eating in case he's sick, but hopefully the tablet will do its thing, and he'll get back to eating again.

Not much going on here today. Dd at playgroup this morning, got a few jobs to do around the house... might make a cake later. Then ds has his jabs this afternoon, and I've got my flu jab. Hopefully we'll get to it this time as long as no-one is sick!

Food for the day:

Weetabix and a banana
The usual
Not sure - either sweet chilli chicken or quorn chilli

Cheeseandbiscuits · 12/12/2011 12:26

Hi everyone

Having a slightly better day today but still not perfect! I am off out with a friend / neighbour tonight. I am really looking forward to a break from DD,although she is sleeping much better the last few days. I posted 5 parcels today and bought 30 first class stamps and 5 stamps to the USA - £45! I couldn't believe it!

Ria Hope the tablets are working. Maybe a bit of gentle encouragement / his fav foods?

Bee good luck with jabs. and enjoy the cake!!

grinningbee · 12/12/2011 13:08

Yikes Cheese stamps are so expensive! Glad things are a bit better, and that dd is sleeping for you now.

The cake won't be being eaten today, tis a rather late Xmas cake Xmas Grin. Another hour and a quarter, and it should be done. It's my first one, so I'm a bit anxious! Kitchen smells lovely though.

I have made sure ds has eaten a good lunch in case he is feeling a bit yuck later. He's also now munching on a cold slice of garlic bread with cheese that dh had last night. He can huff garlic breath on the nurse later Xmas Grin.

I nearly had a tearful moment earlier - picked dd up from playgroup, and she came home with a bag... she's made us a Christmas card and it's lovely. Also made some decorations too The lolly stick star will be on the top of the tree this year. Each one of the playgroup staff gave her a card as well. I've already got them a box of chocs each to take next time. I get the feeling they don't get very much...

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/12/2011 21:35

hello hello! life manic so no time to post properly, but just passing through and didn't want to be forgotten!

RiaInExcelsisDeo · 12/12/2011 21:55

aww, beeSmile my boys have hung the shuttlecock angel on our tree that I made at playgroup nearly 30 years agoBlush and varying bits of theirs they found in the box.

am trying DS1s fave foods as a matter of course this week. DH made toad in the hole (yuk) tonight, but gave him too big a portionHmm. He has requested my sausage risotto which I will do later in the week, and we might try lasagne or chicken korma on Friday (a bit of a manic week ahead, so a couple of nights of scrambled egg on toast/soup etc). Am going to phone my sister about xmas lunch though, as mealtimes have been known to be tense at hers, and also her DC think nothing of having "wind-related" competitions, all of which will make DS1 worseSad

Marple in a minuteSmile

grinningbee · 13/12/2011 09:51

That's lovely Ria I'm sure I've got something ancient that I made in a box somewhere...

Anyway. Morning everyone! Xmas Grin

I am being very Tiggerish today. Off out in a minute to brave Nottingham, and get the majority of pressie shopping done. Eeeek.

I might treat myself to a nice coffee while we're out, we'll see.

Food for the day:

Weetabix and a banana
Probably nothing more than a coffee (bad me)
Left over sweet chilli chicken with some veggies

Xmas GrinXmas Grin

Cheeseandbiscuits · 13/12/2011 14:24

Xmas Envy
grinningbee · 13/12/2011 21:15

Oh dear. I did indeed indulge in a coffee today. Because I was so Tiggerish and happy, dh treated me to one I've been eyeing up for the last few weeks. A praline and cream latte along with a chocolate and cherry cake thing. Except he got me the huge cup... the sort that has two handles. I just looked it up on the SW website. It was 23 syns!!! God knows what the cake was.

Guess what though. I don't care!

Xmas Grin
RiaInExcelsisDeo · 13/12/2011 22:08

yay beeXmas Grin

just been to DS1s carol concert. I could murder a takeaway. DS1 performed for 2 minutes, hidden away behind the choir (who were bored rigid and fidgiting and yawning as they weren't the "chosen ones" in the smaller choir) He spent the rest of the 2 and a half hours somewhere behind the stage. The headteacher spoke for 25 minutes (my mum timed himXmas Wink). Only just made it to the shop for much needed wine!!!

may or may not WI tomorrow. Will see how much time I have as DS2 is still up (FFS DH), and it's DS3s play (againXmas Grin) and my college assessor is coming to visit me in placement tomorrow .

LakeFlyPie · 13/12/2011 23:20

Quick one as on phone and should be sleeping as it truly is DoD tomorrow: 1st day back to work after a year of mat leave Sad

Looking forward to seeing your result bee.
Ria you're encouraging my Xmas spirit which is good. Good luck with assessor Smile
Have tried harder food wise this week and will try and weigh in before work and send pm.
Will take lunch and fruit and not succumb to panini and flapjack

Cheeseandbiscuits · 14/12/2011 08:21

Morning all.

I'm now fully recovered from my hangoverGrin

Hope you enjoyed your coffee and cake bee, you deserve it.
Good luck back at work lake, that will be me in feb, I'm looking forward to it!
It's the Day of doom....

grinningbee · 14/12/2011 08:25

Gooooooooooooooooood morning Dod'ers!

Good luck today Ria. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Just about to take dd to playgroup, then am contemplating cleaning the bathroom and washing the floor. Woohoo.

Food for the day:

Weetabix and a banana
Beans on toast, fruit and a yogurt
Quorn chilli and rice

Xmas Grin
grinningbee · 14/12/2011 08:26

Oooh, and good luck Lake for today. Hope it isn't too stressful...

SlinkyBells · 14/12/2011 08:42

Moooorning all!

Yay bee! Congratulations! Am soooo happy for you! And if anyone deserved that synful coffee and cake it was you Xmas Grin.

Lake Best of luck for today, that will be me 3 weeks today, eek! Let us know how it went. Thanks so much for the soup recipe; I made it Sunday night, then we had it Monday night, then last night I added the passata, some spicy pasta and a few bits of chopped bacon; scrum!

Cheese So your neighbour is a bad influence then?! Xmas Wink Sounds like you had a good night. Tell me about postage costs; I have good friends in Oz and Germany, and family in EIRE, I spend a fortune each year.

Ria Your night last night sounded rather dull! Well done on take-away avoidance, and hope the visit from your assessor goes well.

Right, that's me all caught up (I think).

DS started nursery properly yesterday (8am-1pm) and when I went to collect him, the room leader said no-one would believe it was his first day! Settled in straight away, although wouldn't nap (he was standing in his cot and waving to the other babies, throwing his teddy out and chatting away; trouble-maker or wot?! tee hee). He was shattered when I picked him up, and slept from 1.30pm - 4.15pm Xmas Shock. I actually started to miss him, got a bit bored tee hee.

He's back there again today, so off to finish my Christmas shopping in a bit .

Have a good day all.

P.S Does anyone else wake up with The Apprentice theme-tune in their head on a Wednesday morning?! Xmas Grin.
