Starting a low carb diet - anyone interested in going for it with me?!

I did this very successfully indeed for about 6 weeks in the run up to the summer break. I have been trying to lose weight for a while and was doing OK but then reached a plateau which was when I decided to try something new. And I easily lost a stone doing this.

It was hard in the beginning, for about the first week, then I sort of settled in to it and it just became how it was. And I like the rules of it, because you just can't cheat on it. But it was sometimes hard juggling what the family were going to eat.

I have been cutting down since Tuesday, but will be going for it completely on Monday 5th. I want to lose a stone. Is anyone interested??!!!

Kotinka you are lovely! Thank you for your kind and wise words. I shall carry on. I'll start measuring. How often and where do I measure? Round the decreasing tyre?
I do need to eat more and carry on 1 on 1 off lots of water, green tea and a coke zero every other day.
I'm focused again :)

prolificwillybreeder · 21/10/2011 21:58

Ketosis- can you ex

prolificwillybreeder · 21/10/2011 21:58

Gah, this bloody phone! Ketosis please explain google has overwhelmed me.

VeryStressedMum · 21/10/2011 23:01

Ketosis is when your body doesn't have any carbs to use as energy it will use the fat in your body as energy (body produces ketones in the absence of glucose), as soon as you eat enough carbs to kick out of ketosis your body will use the crabs first as energy.

If you eat too many carbs and do not burn this energy off (through movement) your body will just use the carbs and that's it.

You will still lose weight doing a low calorie and carb filled diet because your body will use the energy from the food you eat as energy as long as you do not go over your calorie allowance (check your BMR), how many fewer calories you eat than you need will determine your weight loss.
Ketosis is good because you burn your fat reserves as energy (something like that anyway Smile

VeryStressedMum · 21/10/2011 23:08

I meant 'in the absence of glucose' because what you eat (carbs) your body turns into glucose and uses the glucose as its energy source. Most things have some carbs in it that's why it's important not to go over the limit or you will eat too many carbs, your body will then start to use that glucose as energy, not your fat (it will stop producing ketones when enough glucose is present). You will have to wait until the body has used up all the glucose for energy before you will burn the energy you already have in your body ie your fat.

Right, think I've got it. I need some of those sticks! Gee if I'm not poas for ovulation, pregnancy, it's ketones!
I had a massive, I mean massive! Blowout yesterday. I'm back on pure protein for 3 days I reckon. I don't regret it too much.
I've conned myself into thinking it will give my metabolism a boost.

So ketosis- I basically need to get the right amount of carbs I use my fat as energy not the carbs.
I need more variety I think I have basically eaten the same things for 2 weeks!

Oh I have 2 tablespoons of oat bran, I do Dukan. Until
I did this diet I suffered terribly my entire life with constipation. The oatbran has made such a difference. I'll be on the oatbran for life I think.

So Dukan or Atkins?

prolificwillybreeder · 23/10/2011 13:01

Another dumb question how do I work out my 20g of carbs.
I'm swaying towards Atkins, I've never been so bored on Dukan.

I'm having a dreadful time at the moment. Not really sure why, but I've been massively off plan.

So ignore me.

I will lurk until I get myself in hand a bit more.
