Starting a low carb diet - anyone interested in going for it with me?!

I did this very successfully indeed for about 6 weeks in the run up to the summer break. I have been trying to lose weight for a while and was doing OK but then reached a plateau which was when I decided to try something new. And I easily lost a stone doing this.

It was hard in the beginning, for about the first week, then I sort of settled in to it and it just became how it was. And I like the rules of it, because you just can't cheat on it. But it was sometimes hard juggling what the family were going to eat.

I have been cutting down since Tuesday, but will be going for it completely on Monday 5th. I want to lose a stone. Is anyone interested??!!!

Hi, I was wondering if I could join you? I need some support tbh!
I'm doing Dukan currently I'm doing my first week of cruising- pure protein and protein and certain veg, one on one off. I did 3 days of the attack.
I'm having terrible carb cravings today and a little bored of eggs!
I've definitely lost a few pounds, frankly I'm too scared the scales won't say too much! I plan on weighing tomorrow if I can- our scales broke so I'll be off to the pharmacy.
I'm starting to think I really needed support from the start.
I also though I would of seen more immediate weightloss.

Another 2lb off this week (couldn't wail til fri!) am shocked due to the amount of wine consumed. So pleased. 9lbs in total :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 13/10/2011 16:08

PWB - stay and they will help you enormously.
RnB - put yourself on the list!

Thanks :)
I had a good look in the mirror and I think I do look slightly slimmer, well flatter anyhow! It's given me...along with the glass of water the kick the bum to continue. I was fine until till today.

prolificwillybreeder · 13/10/2011 16:14

maintaining at the mo- going harcore ....soon. im working around food this weekend, lots of food from different cultures, lots of cake etc, so im def eating that shit.

anyway, cycling was easier today than its ever been and im hoping to be 2lbs down on last week.

anyone got any good packed lunch suggestions? i don't like preparing things as a rule, anything pick up and go for work?

i usually just go for can of tuna.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 14/10/2011 05:38

One more pound here, thought this was going to be a sort of plateau week.
I only have three pounds to go to goal, then I will be maintaining with you Custy. Which is actually when I think the hard work starts. Hmm

Oh well done!

Morning routine disrupted here by DH's unexpected early start, and I forgot to weigh in, so will do that tomorrow. I have a bit of catching up to do, clearly!

prolificwillybreeder · 14/10/2011 08:10

Could I have some lunch time ideas please?
I'm struggling somewhat. I'm really hoping the scales tomorrow show good news and I won't have stay on the cruise phase for 21 more days!
I'm making meringue tomorrow with sweetener for a change. I'm also looking into low sugar ketchup, well it might make chicken more tasty!

How is everyone?

I made delish smoked mackerel and soft cheese dip the other day - great to dunk raw veg into. Equal quantities of fish and sift cheese plus lemon juice to taste, blitz in blender, enjoy.

Found out from doc this week that I quite likely have metabolic syndrome and may have to go onto metformin again. He said it's prob why I've been putting in weight instead of losing it even though eating better and exercising more. I thought it was down to the breastfeeding Blush and never thought to get it checked out. Complete arse of a doc - looked me up and down as if I was poo on his shoe :(

My heads not been in the right place this week as ds has been v poorly, but things can only get better. Pork chop and salad for lunch in a min... Yum.

Spamspamspam · 14/10/2011 13:26

Hi all, I am having a nightmare week with the worst cold/cough I have had in a good few years. Eating wise being good but the amount of carbs in the cough sweets/venos/beechams is alarming. I can't not have them so just plodding on hoping the damage won't be too bad....

Lunch ideas:-

Meats and babybell - can buy a pack of mixed meats in most supermarkets, chorizo, parma and another italian type meat. Doesn't need any preparation just pick up the packet and a couple of babybell.

Avocado and something....needn't take long to prepare or can be prepared when at work. I have avocado with prawn mayonnaise, avocado with crispy bacon and cheese under the grill, avocado with salad - can just take a box of salad and cut up the avocado when you get there.

Fish - Any kind prepacked and vaccuum packed, sainsburys do loads of mackerel fillets, peppered, honey smoked, bbq etc etc

Also what about sandwich filler pots? Have to watch the calories on these though as some are quite high fat but you can have a lot of the range in most supermarkets.

Scotch eggs - yes they have breadcrumbs but not many carbs or you can make them yourself.

Pig to twig do some red onion and feta muffins which are really easy to make on a Sunday and then they last you throughout the week.

Fritata cooked the night before/weekend.

Cold Sausages and some coleslaw

Lamb Koftas

Spamspamspam · 14/10/2011 13:27

Or make your own chicken satay sticks at the weekend - bloody lovely!

Do you all think you're in ketosis most of the time?

I'm doing Dukan and can only manage a trace - although I am still losing weight

Maybe I'm drinking so much water it's being flushed out!? or maybe I'm just eating less this way

I do realise there's no need to worry if I am still losing but just wondered!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 15/10/2011 09:24

When I'm in ketosis I am in it and usually register a + or a ++
but I believe that a trace is still ketosis and possibly it registers as such because of the water you are taking on.

Someone will come along who knows more I hope!

prolificwillybreeder · 15/10/2011 10:29

Thanks for the lunch ideas, they all sound lovely.
Well I weighed myself for the first time in a month, I try not to weigh too often and I have lost 10lbs!
Chuffed to bits! This has really motivated me to carry on going :-)

cardoon · 15/10/2011 11:15

I think I smell a bit funny and get much more hot and bothered when exerting myself - are they signs of menopause ketosis?

[hblush]

prolificwillybreeder · 15/10/2011 12:56

I need to look this ketosis on google. I have not a clue.

So Mr Dukan suggested seafood sticks as a snack. I've never had these pink and White sticks before. I tried one just now, goodness they are positively b

prolificwillybreeder · 15/10/2011 12:56

*vile not b!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 15/10/2011 13:22

cardoon - I think that's the menopause love x

I do get a weird taste in my mouth, but I read somewhere, probably on here, that as much as you lose ketones through urine, you lose them through saliva too. It is a weird metallic taste I get.

I've never had seafood sticks but I know what you are talking about. They actually look vile I reckon, so it's no surprise they actually are!
