Starting a low carb diet - anyone interested in going for it with me?!

I did this very successfully indeed for about 6 weeks in the run up to the summer break. I have been trying to lose weight for a while and was doing OK but then reached a plateau which was when I decided to try something new. And I easily lost a stone doing this.

It was hard in the beginning, for about the first week, then I sort of settled in to it and it just became how it was. And I like the rules of it, because you just can't cheat on it. But it was sometimes hard juggling what the family were going to eat.

I have been cutting down since Tuesday, but will be going for it completely on Monday 5th. I want to lose a stone. Is anyone interested??!!!

If you're getting high readings on your ketostix it's because you're not drinking enough water. Similarly, if you get the metallic taste in your mouth it's because you're not drinking enough water.

I think the answer to any low carb problem is always 'drink more water' Grin

Welcome, Emma

Emmac50 · 16/10/2011 07:45

Thanks guys. I'm off shopping as soon as the shops open to get all the essentials. Even though done it before and did really well I'm nervous and really excited. See you tomorrow!! Smile x

After I've lost the weight with Cambridge I'm going to go low carb. I was addicted to carbs before and anyway, too many carbs is really not that good for the body. Is there a good website for low carb recipes and meal ideas? Just normal everyday food that I can also chuck a few carbs in for the rest of the family.

We can have slimline tonic? I've gone this long without tonic! Right well that's another thing to add to my list tomorrow. Sadly no gin

Hello all,
I haven't been around much the last few weeks, but weighed myself yesterday morning - a little late for Friday I know but finally I seem to have got off that plateau and so I couldn't wait until Friday to put it on - so have amended myself below. - Having said that I was on a course all day yesterday where they provided a sandwich lunch. It was that or nothing and so I did eat sandwiches yesterday. Now its back to being good again and yougurt for breakfast eggs and salad for lunch and I haven't got as far as thinking about dinner so probably fish again as I have lots in the freezer.

RatherBeOnThePiste - weight lost so far: 11lbs
BIWI - weight lost so far: 6.5 lbs
Snapespeare - weight loss so far 6lbs
Spamspamspam - weight loss so far 5 lbs

Custy - some days are just filled with the munchies. Aint no rhyme nor reason to it. But your dinner sounds luvvverly... Envy

Grin at Kotinka

And I am so on a plateau, doing all the right things, going nowhere.
I think maybe I've been doing this for a looooong time, maybe its because I'm near goal weight. I dunno. Tis a wee bit frustrating though tbh.

Kotinka I'm onto the final three, but it has been a two year process for me, doing different things and coming to low carb for this last leg. I am 10:2 now and I want the scales to register 9 something, and then keep it that way. I've lost four stone, and I never want to go back there, I feel I've wasted my time being bigger. I feel so much healthier, and I love clothes shopping now. A bit too much maybe Blush But I think this very last part will prove to be one of the most challenging, then of course comes the unique challenge that is maintaining, which I think is when the real work will start.

at eff off!
I am a size 10 now (5ft8) which is extraordinary to me really, and I love it. Jeans are a 10 as are dresses, some tops I'd get a 12 as my shoulders are quite wide, but I haven't much bazoomerage left really, which is sad, but amazing what you can do with a good bra!

I won't be an 8 ever, so the last 3 pounds won't actually make any difference on the clothing front, tis a psychological target.

And its one step at a time isn't it?

We are in this for the long haul, there are no quick fixes.

Small steps, significant progress. When you lose a pound that takes you into the next stone category, it's so brilliantly motivating isn't it, even though it was only a pound. And when you move into healthy BMI, its fabulous. But it's long haul, and then maintaining for a life time.

And I do find the weight loss threads on here very supportive, I started with a group coming up for two years ago and we are still going, but people are doing different things, but then this thread has been excellent as it is so focussed.

I do worry about maintaining though, and i worry that I won't know when to stop, or how to stop. But I will figure that bit out when I get there. Smile
