Starting a low carb diet - anyone interested in going for it with me?!

I did this very successfully indeed for about 6 weeks in the run up to the summer break. I have been trying to lose weight for a while and was doing OK but then reached a plateau which was when I decided to try something new. And I easily lost a stone doing this.

It was hard in the beginning, for about the first week, then I sort of settled in to it and it just became how it was. And I like the rules of it, because you just can't cheat on it. But it was sometimes hard juggling what the family were going to eat.

I have been cutting down since Tuesday, but will be going for it completely on Monday 5th. I want to lose a stone. Is anyone interested??!!!

You may be eating too little. If you drop below 1200 calories after a few days you body will hibenate to protect you from what it thinks is a famine... Eat a little more and go for a brisk walk. That should kick start things.

I'm all done Smile. I lost just over 2 and a half stone since June on a on-off juice fast. Surprisingly easy and SO effective.

Tortington · 29/09/2011 18:26

interesting article

thank you

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/09/2011 19:31

Kotinka - really interesting article actually, made a lot of sense. I have cut cheese out for the time beginning, I get what it says about fats, makes sense.

But still frustrating. But Custy - you will be fitter from bike riding, so it is not for nothing! I ride my bike to work and back every day, but certainly not fast enough to be burning loads of calories.

One whole week of full ketosis tomorrow, and I really hope that the bloody scales don't say 10.7.6!

Morning - weighing in, so one whole week of ketosis and good behaviour has netted me a 4lb loss overall. Weirdly mostly it went the day after the last weigh in, but then I lost enough to tip it into 4 pounds since yesterday. So I'm now 10st 6 and aiming to be 9 something, so the end is in my sights, and then of course will be the hard work of maintaining weight loss.

I have such a bad weekend though for low carbing, three things to go to, and I know I will be out of ketosis by Sunday, so back on it for sure on Monday.

I hope this is the list, apologies if it isn't, I had to trawl a bit.

That's great, Rather!

No change for me this week, but I have to say I'm glad about that, because I was all over the place last weekend, what with taking DS1 to university. And I was out on Wednesday, so was drinking. But my food has been good this week, so that's obviously helped.

Barbecue weekend, which is great for low carbing!

Good luck everyone else.

Yes! I finally had a phone call from him yesterday (in response to 2 text and one irate voice message from me Blush)

He's really enjoying it and getting on very well with his flat mates. I'm very pleased - and also that the weather has been so great for them. How could you not have a good time in Brighton in the sunshine?!

Right my turn to have a strop!

Can those of us who are being bloody defeatist and impatient stop it please or alternatively if you like being so defeatist and it is just me who is finding it a PITA then please say and I will duck out of the thread :)

1lb is not ONE MEASLY POUND it is a pound of fat - have you ever seen what a pound of fat looks like? It is a a lot of body fat and losing a 1lb is a big thing for some people. Any "support" thread is supposed to be motivational, any loss should be celebrated.

No weight loss is linear, this diet in particular is known for not being linear with weight loss- some of you don't sound like you have that much to lose so of course it is not going to drop off at 2-3lbs per week. Exercise can increase muscle weight, eating too many calories whatever form they come in can mean you don't lose weight and sometimes just sometimes you can be perfect for weeks and weeks and the scales don't show a loss but suddenly you feel better, a stack of weight drops off or you lose inches. Another thing I bet it didn't take you 3/4 weeks to gain the weight you are trying to get off so why would you lose it overnight?

You either trust the diet or you don't - personally I trust it because I have been doing it for 10 months now. I have cheated, stalled, been through periods of eating too many calories but staying in ketosis, not drinking enough water etc etc but I have still lost 2 stone which is an amazing achievement for ME I could have lost the 3 stone I wanted to lose in 6 months had I really tried but I didn't and I am okay with that. I want to keep going positively! I haven't lost anything this week which is the second week in a row but I am happy with that, I know it will come off next week or the week after because I have followed the rules :)

My positives are I tried on a size 12 yesterday and I was nearly there - lady in the shop and another customer both thought it looked lovely but I knew it was just a few inches away - YAY! I also went running today for the second time in 3 days and I really surprised myself, I am much much fitter than I thought and it was so much easier being lighter. I also tried on a few jackets in my wardrobe that I was wearing a year ago - oh my god!

Lecture over - feel free to tell me to OFF!

I think we all need to have a bit if a moan sometimes :D It's hard not to be a bit pissed off if there no or little loss after all off the brilliant effort we put in!

I was under the impression wine was a big no-no. But just read this article: wineintro.com/basics/health/carbohydrates.html

Thoughts?

Well I had a carb fuelled weekend - it was always going to be impossible to maintain it, but happily I didn't put weight on, and am now back on the low carb. I have shopping later that will be very helpful for this!
