Starting a low carb diet - anyone interested in going for it with me?!

I did this very successfully indeed for about 6 weeks in the run up to the summer break. I have been trying to lose weight for a while and was doing OK but then reached a plateau which was when I decided to try something new. And I easily lost a stone doing this.

It was hard in the beginning, for about the first week, then I sort of settled in to it and it just became how it was. And I like the rules of it, because you just can't cheat on it. But it was sometimes hard juggling what the family were going to eat.

I have been cutting down since Tuesday, but will be going for it completely on Monday 5th. I want to lose a stone. Is anyone interested??!!!

Spamspamspam - at the five pounder!! Re the loo, erm..... possibly not actually, now you come to mention it! I shall look at the pig to twig forum too, that could be very useful. When I did this in the run up to the summer I was losing about 4 pounds a week, but I do remember stalling then.

BecauseImWorthIt - au revoir to the French name then??!! I'm more into it now I know I'm in ketosis, and I won't cheat - I'm probably too impatient and want results! Actually that is definitely it Grin

I think on this low carb lark - ketosis is the nirvana and when you get there, you sort of feel there should be definite results. That's me being impatient again!

But thank you.

5lbs?! Both of my babies only weighed 6lbs 2 oz!

Spamspamspam · 21/09/2011 18:31

Ha ha I don't think it was just the "deposit" that weighed 5lbs, think it was a combination of losing glycogen which can weigh up to 7lbs plus the big poo! To get into ketosis you use up your glycogen stores first which as I say can weigh up to 7lbs, if you take 4-5 days to get into ketosis it might take this long to lose the glycogen. This is why people who start this type of diet often lose a LOT of "weight" in their first week, most of it is not actually weight/fat it is glycogen Grin

I think BIWI and I are [disappointed] Spam Grin

The other P2T supplement is chromium.

I agree about lots of the initial weight loss on low carb being water/glycogen. Glycogen holds a lot of water with it so as it is used up you get lighter as the water is released.

In my experience the most important supplement is the psyllium husk!! I buy it loose rather than in capsules, as I take a tablespoonful per day. I mixed it with water for the first phase (yuk!!) but now I allow myself greek yoghurt I mix it with that. I also sometimes put it in porridge if it is a porridge day, but I mix it in one the porridge is cooked. I put it in beforehand once, and cooked it, and the psyllium went all goopy, like glue.

I'm really going for it from today. I was easing myself back into it this week after a few months of 'off-piste' (and 6 lb weight gain) but from this morning I'm really going to get myself sorted and back to target. Once I'm at target I will see about whether I want a new target!

Weigh in is on Friday, yes?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 22/09/2011 13:42

kotinka - you need a professional low carber to answer you, sorry I can be of no help..

Yes weigh in day is Friday - well I weigh every day but record it once a week. I will have 7 teenage girls here overnight so I'm hoping I can get it done. I'm a bit anal about where I weigh, it has to be the same place on the floor in the downstairs bathroom, and it has no lock, and the thought of any of these glorious girls crashing in on me when I am lacking any dignity fills me with horror!

So it may be Saturday this week!

But still in ketosis - on +++, so that just means I need to drink more I believe?
Am in the swing of this now, made a very low carb chicken curry last night from Custardo's blog and it was very successful for them and for me.

thanks! I have DS1 who is 2.3 and DS2 who is 20 weeks, which is why it was a double shock to find out we are having more babies... had two scans in the last two weeks and still can't quite believe it.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 22/09/2011 21:19

ONE STUPID CRAPPY STUPID POUND !!!
That's all Ggrrrr. I will find the list a bit later. I shall keep going until next Friday and see what difference ketosis makes over a whole week. It's only been 3 days. All this effort to lose one pound doesn't seem right Confused

Spamspamspam · 23/09/2011 08:56

Rather - how much water are you drinking? Drink AT LEAST two litres a day, preferably three.

Not lost anything here but I am okay with that as last week so was huge I have been up and down all week but it has settled at the same as last week so happy Grin

bigkidsdidit · 23/09/2011 12:28

Three pounds! Since Monday!
