Hi everyone can I join?
I started the Shred before Christmas and had done 10 days of level 1 and 7 days of level 2 then had a break for Christmas and then got .... Pneumonia... On Boxing Day!
So I haven't done anything since 22 December as i have been recuperating. I now feel ready to have a go again.
I think I need to try level one again today although I am gutted that I need to start again.....
Anyway will see how the lungs cope! Wish me luck.

knottyhair · 17/01/2012 10:08

Jackster, Threesteps & Venetia, hope your knees are OK and get better soon.
Just finished L1 Killer Buns - 2nd time I've done it. Really enjoy the warm-up on this one. I find the workout itself a real mixture of stuff that feels like it's easy (but as Jillian says, go a bit faster or add a weight and it does change things!), and tougher stuff. I really struggle with sumo squats, I just can't get down so that my thighs are parallel, my body won't physically do it! Think I've got funny hips or something, as I can't sit cross legged either Blush. As for the chair pose with a leg off the floor, I seem to start shaking almost immediately! Also attempted the advanced version of the judo bridges (I think that's the right name), and ended up in fits of laughter as I kept falling over. I do like it though. Might give L1 one more go then attempt L2. Planning a L1 Shred with added weights tomorrow. Hope you all have a good day x

Welcome Happy! L1 sounds v sensible after pneumonia. Ease yourself in gently.

Knotty - your experience sounds similar to mine with Killer Buns. Overall I didn't think L1 was that hard, but there were a few things (inc that chair squat you referred to) that I thought were really tough. Not much challenge cardio wise. I added a couple of circuits of L2 and could def feel it by the end by combining them. I also though I could do a level of Killer Buns and then my 20 minutes pilates workout which is not cardio at all, but a real killer on the arms and core...therefore giving myself an all over body workout!

knottyhair · 17/01/2012 10:48

Sorry cross-posted Happy! Welcome, and good luck with Shredding!
Notyummy, that sounds like a good idea. But you are clearly at another level fitness-wise to me Grin!

Moodykat · 17/01/2012 10:58

Please may I join? Just done L1D2 and feeling achey! I'm a bit crap as I keep having to stop for water and breath!
She's a hard bitch! Grin

Happypiglet · 17/01/2012 11:08

So managed level one. Tough again but I guess to be expected. And didn't find it too dull! Will persevere but maybe move on a bit quicker than 10 days if I feel up to it

ThePaxton · 17/01/2012 12:28

Hi everyone. Welcome Happy and Moody Hope everyone's knees are okay.
RI30 Level 2 done. Wasn't too bad but was trying get the form right as she keeps banging on about it Grin. I couldn't do the ab hold to table thing. Getting up to table was fine but the ab hold I just couldn't do it, either my arms a really weak (which is true) or my bum is that massive that it stays on the floor even though I'm pushing up.Grin Will try again tomorrow.

threestepsforward · 17/01/2012 12:28

Welcome Moody and Happypiglet Smile

Well done on getting stuck in...the aches are entirely normal Grin Sorry to hear about your pneumonia Happy, glad you're recovered.

Venetia, I was enjoying L2, a bit more than L1 maybe. The strength stuff was definitely more of a challenge, but then I am a self-confessed weakling!

Notyummy and knotty, does any of Killer look like it may be do-able with a knee/calf injury? I think I probably know the answer! My plan is to do some of my pilates stuff that doesn't target the legs while I'm mending. I have a DVD that has 10 min sections concentrating on different parts of the body so might look at doing the arm section today. Ooo I'm so cross I tell you Grin

McPie · 17/01/2012 13:12

ThePaxton I couldnt for the life of me do that move even though I tried every one of the 6 days on L2. There is one in L3 where you have to sit down, roll back and do a bum lift then roll back and stand up, I can do every part of it but stand up at the end so just do the rolls and lifts Blush. I had a similar issue with the one in NMTZ where you had to get back up from your knees with your hands above your head.

Jacksterbear · 17/01/2012 17:52

Welcome happypiglet and moodykat.

Thanks for concern re knee, I have a lovely bruise today but thankfully not too painful to move joint. Hope everyone elses' knees are on the mend too.

Did my 30 mins on cross trainer today.

3steps is yr plates dvd the 10 min solutions pilates perfect body one? I have that and really like it.

threestepsforward · 17/01/2012 18:44

It is Jacksterbear. I really like it too, have had it for a good while and normally do the stretch bit after each bout of Jillian!

Have had a rest day today and decided to take another week off from the high impact with lots of deep heat. Will definitely do some pilates targeting non-leg areas...

Hope everyone's doing okay

notyummy · 17/01/2012 18:52

Hmm - Killer buns probably not advisable with a leg injury - sorry!

Just done L2 6W6P....and I think it is getting slightly easier - hurray!! Still hard work but not quite the purple slightly nauseous mess I was the first few times I finished it.

Jacksterbear · 17/01/2012 20:58

Well done notyummy!

Just been watching our Jillian on the Biggest Loser - tis most odd, like watching a RL friend on TV as I feel like I "know" her! Confused

Happypiglet · 18/01/2012 09:44

Ok so done day two of level one of shred. It was harder than yesterday mainly because I ache! Couldn't do all the first set of cardio.... Oh well will keep going. Hope everyones knees are improving it seems to be a bit of a theme!

knottyhair · 18/01/2012 09:58

Keep going Happypiglet, I remember that it didn't take long to see improvement in what I could manage.

I did a L1 Shred as well this morning. Used 3kg for all the strength and for the abs stuff (except for reverse crunches & bicycles), and added 2kg weights for the cardio (except for punches, I can only keep up the pace if I drop to 1.5kg). And I still can't do a full set of proper push-ups. But I figure that as long as I'm finding them hard doing them on my knees, I must be "giving it everything I got" Grin. Notyummy, glad to hear that L2 6W6P gets a bit easier! Jackster, I'm going to watch Biggest Loser when I have my lunch, and I know what you mean about feeling like you "know" her! I'm clearly getting a little obsessed - I've managed to recruit 3 of my friends into doing her DVDs, and whilst they really like doing them, one of them did look at me funny the other day and remarked that I was developing a real girl crush Blush.

OP posts:
ThePaxton · 18/01/2012 11:47

Ha ha knotty I've recruited one of my friends too and she's got one of her friends at it aswell. She does feel like an old friend. I imagine her screaming in my ear when I start to 'phone it in'!
Happy I was the same, as knotty says you'll soon build up stamina, I used to have to pause it and drink water, don't need to now. Keep going.
McPie I think my arms are too short to do it. Said friend finds them really easy but her friend can't do them as her arms are too short. If you watch the advanced girl she pushes up slightly on her hands rather than have them flat like Jillian. Tried it this morning and managed to do them. Did all of Level 2 RI30 with 2kg weights and arms feel it now.

VenetiaLanyon · 18/01/2012 13:23

Blimey, did first L2 of Ripped today!

Plank jacks and mountain climbers in same circuit nearly finished me off, and the rest of it rammed home how hopelessly unco-ordinated and puny I am. And I nearly kept klonking myself in the head with the weights, for the one where you have to hold them over your head and lower them down your back...Hmm

notyummy · 18/01/2012 19:09

Killer Buns L3 today. TBH, I was a little disappointed. I thought it would be harder. There was a good variety there and quite a few exercises I haven't done before, which was good, but very few really taxed me. That said, there were a few where I could have used weights and didn't (largely because she mentioned halfway through to try using weights and I didn't want to go and get them from across the room!) Of the four circuits, the third was really tough, and the other three ok. Anyone else done it yet? Am I just wrong? My old nemesis is in circuit 3 - jumping lunges - and they are faster than the shred version. Urgh!!

BTW - I may be back on here tomorrow with my tail between my legs because my 'buns' are in complete agony. Time will tell Grin.

Nothing tomorrow and long run planned on FRiday.

ThePaxton · 19/01/2012 12:36

Wow notyummy just watching L3 of Killer buns frightens me. Although I found the 1st level wasn't too bad but my 'buns' were killing me the next day.
Did L2 RI30, I hate circuit 2. I twinged my back doing those crunches where you pull yourself up your leg. Used 2kg except for serving arms, yuk.

VenetiaLanyon · 19/01/2012 12:52

I'm with you re Circuit 2, Paxton. Tried it again today, and got even less co-ordinated if possible (sigh).

knottyhair · 20/01/2012 09:58

L1 Ripped in 30 done this morning. Used 3kg except for 2nd strength circuit when I held my 3s and 2s together - I must get some 5kg for these sort of moves. Also used 3kg for the crunches. Still hate the hollow man, I can't feel any difference between the beginner and advanced versions! Going to do L1 6W6P tomorrow, and L2 Ripped on either Sunday or Monday. Have a good day!

ThePaxton · 20/01/2012 12:01

Venetia I'm looking forward to moving on to L3 next week. My back is fine but feel a bit off today so will do some Pilates. knotty I need to get some 3kg, can't wait till I say I need some 5kg. Grin

Watch the Biggest Loser last night with Jillian, christ she's mean! She had one girl going 'yes ma'am, yes ma'am' loved it. Would love to do a session with her, bet I'd do more than I do now. Also liked the other trainer on it, he seems kind, compared to the lovely Jillian!

Nolda · 20/01/2012 12:16

Hi, can I join in? I have had the shred DVD for a while and I got the box set of Ripped in 30 and Killer Buns for Christmas (at my request). I did day 2 Level 1 of Ripped in 30 yesterday and can feel it mostly at the tops of my outer thighs (not sure which move has caused that). I'm finding it quite challenging but just about doable. Knotty, I hate, hate hate the hollow man and can only do it while groaning out loud.

VenetiaLanyon · 20/01/2012 12:35

I hate Hollowman, Knotty; feels like it might put my back out any minute.

Anyway, knee now in agony, and physio thinks might take a week to recover before I can get back to shredding Sad.

I injured it by shredding whilst I had achey joints during my period; apparently according to the physio, it is a well known phenemenon that women injure themselves more during their periods, and she recommended staying away from lunges and squats at that time if you have a weakness in the knee area.

McPie · 20/01/2012 13:02

Well day 6 of ripped L3 just finished thankfully as I hate the strength bit of the last section, arms are my weak spot and the tricep work makes them scream. L4 in the morning should be interesting will have to watch it again later on to prep myself.
