Love the goreygeous name change solo Grin when i'm working on the house I just go online after breakfast and lunch when we should all have a rest for our digestion's sake!! Not in the evening when i'm watching telly Grin and mending, sewing stuff (when i remember)!

IKWYM about listening to the radio!

NiecieTheTerminator · 11/10/2011 11:42

Hi all.

New piece of research for you - eat with your less dominant hand. If you eat with your dominant hand you are less driven by hunger and taste and more driven by habit. Eating with your other hand breaks this habit.

It is OK for some things I suppose (they used popcorn in the study) but if you need a knife and fork it will have less effect....... unless you reverse your knife and fork which could get messy!!

TheOriginalFAB · 11/10/2011 11:57

Great idea Niecie!

My plan today is onlty to have fruit, veg and cheese for the rest of the day. I have bought some yummy stuff this morning so it should be good. I know that isn't doing PM but I think I am not eating enough and then eating ice cream in the evening and my weight isn't going down. I walked the kids part of the way to school and then walked fas or jogged some of the way back to the car. I have done some shoppiong and 1 1/2 hours of cleaning, tidying and cooking so that should count for something [wishful thinkin].

TheOriginalFAB · 12/10/2011 07:06

I need help. I am so fed up and demoralised. I decided yesterday I would have a fruit and veg day as I have been eating ice cream, etc. I had a sausage sandwich for lunch as the sausages were left over and I didn't want to waste them, I also thought a proper breakfast was a good idea. I had lunch at 1 which was roasted veg and cheese. For tea I had 2 spoonfuls of mash and a mini cornish pasty (left overs from the kids tea) and then 1 1/2 pieces of fresh bread at 8.45. This morning I have weighed myself and iirc I have put 2lbs on.

It seems I can lose a few pounds when I try and lose weight in the beginning but then nada.

I am just so fed up. I come from a family of obese women and I am heading that way SadSad.

ppeatfruit · 12/10/2011 08:47

Morning all! Fab If you weren't P.M.ing i would say you've been eating too many carb and protein combinations DH. eats like that and can't loose weight. Although he has lost some since giving up pork products (we worked out it was giving him bad pains).

Your idea of fruit and veg., maybe with some fish and cheese, is brill. for weight loss that's what i do WITH the P.Ming and am keeping off that damned 2 stone Grin

NiecieTheTerminator · 12/10/2011 09:16

I've had an article in Good Housekeeping I have been meaning to talk to you all about for ages. It was about how diets don't work and 90% of people who do a diet put the weight back on. A very scary statistic!

However, it lists some things that slim people do automatically that the rest of us probably don't do or only do because we are following a diet plan which, when it comes to an end we ditch and go back to our old ways.

The first one was eat low cal and low fat - you don't calorie count, just make sensible choices as ppeat does (and which incidentally I think PMcK skirts
around in pursuit of the ideal that you can eat what you want).

FAB although you didn't eat a lot, there seems to be a lot of fat in what you have eaten. It is easy to do - I do it myself but then I am not one of the huge success stories that others have been - but you could perhaps cut back on that in favour of leaner meat or less cheese.

I have to go out or I would list the other keys to success. Hopefully I will be able to do it later.

NiecieTheTerminator · 12/10/2011 09:19

Actually off the top of my head I can remember 2 of the others - exercise more (walking, housework not formal exercise if you don't want to) and the other which may surprise some of you but which works for me is weigh often. If I think I am gaining, I avoid the scales which is wrong - I need to be keeping it in check but then I never get the loose clothes thing. Losing 2 stone barely made any difference in dress size for me so that gives me a lot of leeway to go horribly wrong if I don't check regularly. I haven't been and I am paying the price at the moment.Sad

I'll come back later when I have the article in front of me.Smile

TheOriginalFAB · 12/10/2011 10:45

Just got back from GP. He is sending me for a scan to check for gallstones.

I also mentioned about my weight and the correlation with weight gain starting when I went back on AD's. I can't come off them - he said I could for a month to see what happens weight wise - but said best not when I told him I missed one and crashed. I am on a high dose - double the average. He has given me a diet sheet to help and said to go back and see him in a month and if I haven't lost anything he will put me on slimming tablets Shock. He weighed and measured me and I have put weight on since he laast weighed me and I have shrunk 2 cm! ShockConfused.

TheOriginalFAB · 12/10/2011 11:07

He also in passing said I have IBS.

GoresHairKnickers · 12/10/2011 11:45

Sounds like a good doctor FAB.

My brother has IBS as does my Mum, but I don't to date.

I have actually stopped weighing, but I think that's because I'm not actually doing anything PMK wise iyswim.

Well, almost time for a new thread. I will see to it later if you are all Ok with it. Maybe it'll give us all the boost we need :)

ppeatfruit · 12/10/2011 14:24

Yes i'm okay with it solo when you're ready!!!

Fab IIWY I'd give up pork products and see how you feel 'cos we have friend with IBS who can control it when he's off bacon etc.

ColdSancerre · 12/10/2011 14:40

Hello all

I bought the PM book/DVD/CD combo after reading your thread. I lost weight earlier this year with WW, not enough, but a good amount. And I was very depressed at having piled it all back on bar about 9lbs. I started following the PM book on Sunday, have listened to the CD daily at least. I have tried a few of the visualisation things but struggle with that and also the journal says do the mirror thing daily but I can't get my head around it.

But what I wanted to ask was - how was it for you in the first few days? I find it really hard to judge if I'm full/satisfied etc. Did anyone else find this hard or is there something I haven't understood?

ppeatfruit · 12/10/2011 15:09

You are very welcome sancerre Smile yeah I think we all found the beginning tricky; I found it clicked when I started counting to 20 or thereabouts with each mouthful!! And or try eating with yr eyes closed!! it's weird but it helps a lot.

Sorry I didn't mean to ignore you! Niecie I've got that copy of Good Housekeeping too! i think it's interesting we all know that diets don't work don't we? but I'm not sure about being on low fat and low cal. forever because as you know I follow the blood type and it says O types should eat good fats and meat and no wheat IMO it's the mixing that is esp. bad for digestion and weight loss!

ColdSancerre · 12/10/2011 15:18

Thanks ppeat. With regard to eating what you want to eat (which I'm doing) v the blood type eating you describe do you find that you naurally want to eat the foods that are described as being right for your blood type, that those foods are the ones you prefer? It's just I find it quite interesting.

Since starting this every time I've felt hungry around lunchtime and I've sat and thought about what I want to eat it has never come up with a sandwich and a bag of crisps, it has been some really juicy fruit like melon and sliced meat and tomatoes, or some prawns etc.

NiecieTheTerminator · 12/10/2011 16:55

ppeat - I am not sure there is necessarily a contradiction going on between the GH article and your blood type diet. You mentioned good fats and meat being OK. It seems that most things which are good fat you either don't eat a huge amount of (veg oils which are high in good fats) or they aren't highly calorific like lean meat. Low cal would also mean low carbs which you seem to be doing.

Re the weighing in - I reckon you have to do what suits you and not feel bad either way. If you are motivated by looking at the scales then do it. If not then don't, so long as you are sure that you won't put on a significant amount without noticing. I do think every day is too much but once or twice a week works for me. As I said earlier, if I don't weigh myself it tends to be because I am frightened of what I will find and really I should be facing up to it!

FAB - I have had IBS too. Actually I don't feel 100% today and I reckon it is IBS related. It never goes away but it can be got under control. It very rarely bothers me now but I think I have had a few days of not drinking enough fluids and we had quite a spicy tea last night and I reckon it was all too much! What got mine under control was eating more fruit, but most importantly drinking enough water plus a general reduction in stress. I also can't drink coffee so I don't and I only have about 4 cups of tea a week as that can be an irritant on a bad day too. Whatever tipped you over into having a panic attack a few days ago (and I know you have plenty of things going on at the moment) will no doubt be affecting your gut. At least you know now though. Did the doc give you some peppermint capsule thingies or any other medication?

Sancerre - Welcome and good luck! Smile

TheOriginalFAB · 12/10/2011 18:02

He hasn't given me any meds but I was happy enough about that as I am on enough! He has referred me for a scan but wasn't happy with the care I received at the out of hours service, he pretty much slagged them off Shock. He was only referring me for a scan to put my mind at rest which Confused me somewhat.

LotsOfGoodFunThatIsFunny · 12/10/2011 19:46

ppeatfruit I did come back for a day and then went off track again Blush it feels like I have posted for ages!
