marypoppins - I am fine as long as I eat right, was just explaining that health reasons keep me on straight and narrow!

Yes Adore Yourself Slim very good for motivation, its the diet book I wish I had written Smile I actually emailed the author to tell her how much I liked it!

fairy hello and welcome! I'll add you on MFP. I agree about the picking, I used to be dreadful, I wouldn't eat big meals especially as this would make IBS worse but just ate far too many snacks, esp when not hungry. I now only snack between meals if I am actually hungry and I drink much more water. I recommend Paul McKenna for that, good at helping you assess if you actually need to eat.

Hi Fairy - I'm a massive picker too. I'd easily forgo meals and just graze all day on low calorie snacks which all add up to a large number of calories with no nutritional value!

I'm starting the 14 day kickstart meal planner from the Clean & Lean Diet today. I was due to start on Monday but got some kind of bug and spent 2 days eating no more than dry biscuits. Lost 4lb in 2 days but now I'm eating again it's sure to come straight back on! So annoying that it would take me over a month to lose 4lb and then a virus can do it in a matter of days (I know it's not real weight loss, and it's certainly not pleasant, but at least looking at the scales cheered me up :) )

So for breakfast this morning I have had:

1 boiled egg
50g smoked salmon (which unfortunately I am NOT a fan of)
1 cup spinach

Good luck on your holiday Marrypoppins. Could you equate unhealthy food you eat with exercise? I read somewhere once that to burn off a Mars Bar you'd have to run 5km - I've not really fancied eating once since as it seems a high price to pay! But you could say something like - if I have desert tonight then I'll powerwalk for 1 hour tomorrow. And 100 sit ups for the chocolate square that comes with a coffee....Even if the calories don't match, you may not feel like eating as much? And it'll get you doing more exercise.

WannaBeMarryPoppins · 18/08/2011 10:13

Forever, I am glad diet helps you with your health.

I had my weigh in day today and actually lost weight from last week, even though I was snacking a lot this week but the last few days. But I think it's just whenever I go completely over board and then cut the snacking out weight comes off quite quickly the first few days, as I save SO MANY calories. BUt I will try really hard from today onwards Smile

I am looking forward to getting Adore Yourself Slim. Not sure why, I have so many reasons why I want to lose weight and have managed in the past but this time I seem to lack the psychological push if that makes sense, I just don't feel motivated and strong enough.

I think the 'punishment' system is a good idea Wifezilla. We have looked online and there is not much to do every day anyway, so I guess we will walk a lot on the beach etc. Unlike in the UK where everyone is relatively close to the sea we are really not, so beach holidays are quite special and my family tries to use them as much as possible, which I guess could be very positive.

Good luck with getting the clean and lean eating started, and I hope you feel much better now!

RGPargy · 18/08/2011 12:59

Hi everyone! :o

Wannabe I would just try and use damage limitation when going home, as Forever has advised but dont be toooooo hard on yourself if you do have a treat! :) The most important thing though is that you have a good time with your family. :)

Hello and welcome Fairy. Will add you on MFP. Same username as here!

Gilbonzo Please tell me someone took a video of you riding the bike post-vodka?!! :o I bet it would have made for very interesting viewing! :o Well done on the good BBQ food too.

I am getting seriously bored with my current food and would love to have some ideas on what to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner!!

At the moment my menu consists mainly of yoghurt and berries for breakfast, a salad for lunch and chicken and veg or salad for dinner. I'm getting very bored of having the same thing every day!

Does anyone else have one of those faulty tape measures?? I measured myself 3 months ago (if not longer!) and when i measured myself again last night, the measurements were still the same, despite losing 22lbs! How does that work then? It's so disheartening and makes me wonder why i'm bothering! Having said that, i am not on the verge of jacking it all in, as i have had loads of compliments lately and have even dropped a dress size but i'm just confused as to why the tape measure isn't moving anywhere!!

Hmm
FairyBlueBell · 18/08/2011 13:03

Hi All - and a huge thanks for welcoming me on MFP.

marrypoppins the GF is quite recent - about 2-3 months and I'm still ajusting to not having what the docs were treating as IBS (TMI on the symptoms, which have pretty much gone, but I'm sure you can guess).

The c25k is coming along slowly my personal best is 22 mins and 2.79km its taken me 10 weeks to get to week 6 of the programme, but I've really seen some positive benefits - more energy, less lethargy, and an overall cardio improvement. Enjoy your "punishments" on holiday Wink

Off to see what I can have for lunch, since todays picking has been limited to 2 plums from the fruit bowl.

foreverondiet · 18/08/2011 22:45

rgpargy well you know what I eat as my diary is open! Eggs for breakfast, sometimes yoghurt and muesli instead. Fish and salad for lunch. Tonight made chicken and tomato rissoto. Not too much rice but very yummy.

wifezilla good luck on the lean and clean but don't eat smoked salmon if you aren't keen, just have different fish instead. I love smoked salmon, as do DH and the DC. Have bought some as a treat for weekend!

marypoppins yes you can def mitigate some of bad food by staying active on holiday.

fairy as you can see from my food diary I eat very little gluten, mainly as I get bloating from wheat and it doesn't help weight loss. I have suffered from IBS in the past but on this diet no probs at all, even with pulses which I used to think made my IBS worse.

I ran home from work today, its 11.5km and last 1.5km is uphill and the rain got much worse at that point so although I did the run is my best ever time of 64 mins I was a bedraggled mess, the DC thought I was a very funny sight.

I have made good food choices today which is good as had lovely meal out last night for wedding anniversary, which I am sure was over 1000 calories.

I find though that some foods like deep fried battered food are a no-no for me as they give me indigestion. DH ordered tempura for starter but I wasn't even tempted to try it. I find it hard now to enjoy eating food I know will make me feel ill. Like chips - I used to love chips but they give me indigestion to its hard to enjoy them....

WannaBeMarryPoppins · 20/08/2011 16:08

fairy, i am glad you are treated appropriately now!

forever, that is one impressive run!

My 'Adore yourself Slim' arrived today and while I am not really convinced of the hypnosis thing I like the layout of the book a lot and find it really useful. I hope it helps my motivation

ladydeedy · 23/08/2011 14:39

hey can I join you guys? i am "ladyduddy" on mfp. I was using the livestrong app for a little while but just moved over to MFP as this seems much better! I love it although it says my calorie intake should be about 300 cals less a day than the livestrong app said, to lose a pound a week... Have lost 10lb though so far and would like to lose another half stone. I have started going to the gym and can highly recommend Body Pump classes - wow! I am also jogging (and dragging DH along!) twice a week for around 20 mins or so. Last week on holiday was really dreading it as we normally eat and drink quite a lot more. I've always thought we've had a really good diet but using MFP has made me realise that it's our portion control that's out of control (as it were!) and we probably drink a bit too much. So now MFP just makes me think before I eat and helps me plan. I love it!! it's been entirely lifechanging, just those 10lb so far...!! Feeling great and positive and healthy Smile

ladydeedy · 23/08/2011 14:43

ps ideas for meals - I have porridge most mornings made with water but with some milk on top, glass of orange juice. lunchtime I'll have a banana, a yoghurt, a clementine or other piece of fruit (kiwi, or grapes) and a small sandwich with houmus, egg, cheese, or peanut butter. then for dinner a glass of wine (sometimes 2!), and pasta with veg sauce and salad, or risotto, or chicken or fish with veg. sometimes halloumi with rice and salad. Also loving lidl's spinach pizza (half of that) with salad, or linda mccartney veg lasagna with spinach as a side dish. Luckily I dont have a sweet tooth (any more after weaning myself off chocolate in my 30s when I was 4 stone heavier than I am now...).

Good luck to everyone today - one day at a time and all that!
the other thing I love about the app is that if I feel particularly hungry one day and want to eat more - i just go for a run first Smile

2kidsintow · 23/08/2011 16:42

Hello all....I've got tired of trying to do the Weightwatchers thing. I did well on old points, but am having no joy with the propoints way of it. Too many things that I ate before and successfully lost weight with (e.g. jact potatoes, pasta) were now too 'expensive' on the plan.

I discovered MFP only last night. I used to cal count (Welshslim) years and years ago and forgot about its simplicity. I downloaded the app and am ridiculously impressed by the barcode scanner part.

I am going to give MFP a go instead of points from now on. If anyone wants to add me, I am mebutslimmer on there.

Thanks

foreverondiet · 23/08/2011 17:43

hi welcome:

ladydeedy - Well done on your weight loss so far! I also love bodypump but at the moment focussing on running as doing a duathlon and triathlon.

Bodypump helps to preserve lean muscle that is often lost on low calories diets, also important (to maintain muscle mass) to eat enough protein, ideally at each meal - watch out though as some of those meal ideas had little or no protein eg porridge, houmous sandwich, pasta and veg sauce (houmous does have some protein but not enough to be your only protein of the day).

I eat very little now in the way of processed food, although should get back into habit of eating homemade pizza and lasagne, stopped eating these to lose last bit of weight!

I'll add you on MFP.

re: I do a lot of running but it makes me so much more hungry (so wouldn't do it to get more calories IYSWIM) but I do exercise DVD if I've eaten too much!

2kids if that works for you then go for it, great way to keep track of eating. I have found that I needed to cut carbs down to keep on losing.

OP posts:
GilbonzoTheSecretPsych0Duck · 23/08/2011 17:59

No exercise for me for a while. I've torn a tendon in my wrist. I was kneading bloody marzipan of all things and I felt go 'twang'.

mrspnut · 23/08/2011 21:30

I've had a bad weekend, too much wine and too many carbs.

Onwards and upwards though and will paste a big smile on my face this week and try harder. We go on holiday on friday afternoon and I am looking forward to a break.

foreverondiet · 23/08/2011 22:56

Useful link on skinny fat.

Skinny fat is when your BMI is in the normal range BUT you don't have much muscle - so your body fat is moving into the unhealthy zone (ie over 30%). This often happens as a result of weight loss diet involving limited calories and cardio training.

link

My next goal (after the duathlon and triathlon!) is to build up muscles on the upper part of my body. Legs are fine because of the running and cycling. Based on my tanita scales I had 103lbs of lean body mass at the start of my diet and I have 97lbs now, so I guess I need to gain 5-6lbs of muscle, and take my weight up to 9 stone.

ladydeedy · 24/08/2011 09:05

hi and thanks for the tip re protein, foreveronadiet. Am doing best to work on that now - and luckily dont buy any processed/ready stuff and cook everything from scratch (with the exception of a pizza occasionally and so on but generally most stuff). we;re lucky in that we grow a lot of our own veg and have a farm shop up the road so can get some good organic stuff to work with!
i will stick close to this thread! Feeling v motivated and just wish I had discovered this ages ago!!

foreverondiet · 24/08/2011 11:39

BTW I add quorn mince to the pasta sauce, to make a veggie bolognaise - and adds protein.

RGPargy · 24/08/2011 20:57

Hi everyone! :o

Welcome newbies - i have added you!

As for body pump, i'm afraid i am a bit of an addict. I do it 4 or 5 times a week these days, and dont skimp on the weights either! Blush My downfall is not doing enough cardio but recently that has mainly because i injured my (already delicate) knee during a high impact aerobics class, which pretty much put me out of cardio action for a few weeks. This week is the first week where my knee feels actually OK and i almost went back to the step class today but thought I'd better rest it for just one more week before i hit the hardcore stuff again lol. Ironically, I'm going to see a musculo-skeletal specialist tomorrow in London but I feel a bit of a fraud because my knee isn't giving me jip at the moment and probably wont for a while! Still, it does ache now and then after exercise so best get it seen to Hmm

Have had a bit of a rotten couple of weeks, food wise. Although some days have been good, i've had quite a few bad days recently! Naughty me! Blush I had a boozy weekend (again), and yesterday my friend was over with her kids, and of course we ended up "testing" the Asda cookies (just to make sure they were safe to eat, of course). After 3 of them each, we thought they were safe enough for the kids. Blush

I'm dreading weigh day on Friday. I am bound to have put on weight. Another boozy Friday is looming this week. A rare gym girls night out, so i'm sure it'll be a messy one!

Right, best do a bit of ironing for work tomorrow. Booooooooo!!

Have a nice evening everyone! :o

2kidsintow · 25/08/2011 00:23

Thanks to all who added me. I'm getting into the swing of things now.
It is a real incentive to be good to know that other people can see your diary and a good way of getting some menu ideas by peeking at other people's.

lydiathetattooedlady · 25/08/2011 11:49

hello...may i join you? I am a terrible yo-yo dieter. I go from days thinking i dont care about being thin so i can eat what i want to days where i could cry. I have done slimming world and weight watchers but found i still wasnt eating healthy just trying to workout what i could spend my sys/points on. I have joined my fitness pal so hoping it will help me. I think the big kick in the backside was finding out my bmi of 30 puts me in the obese range. I always just considered my self as plump!
Also horrifed to discover i have put on 9lbs since getting married at the end of may, and quite disappointed in myself for not losing more before my wedding Sad

Wifezilla · 25/08/2011 13:21

Hi everyone - there's some really impressive weight loss going on! Lydia what's your name on MFP - I couldn't find you? I think I've added everyone else.

As usual, I've failed pretty spectaularly to keep to the Clean and Lean Diet - I realised as I sat at the table wanted to cry into my mackeral that it was making me miserable! I just don't like a lot of the food that was on the menu. However I am still trying to stick to the principles by eating the foods in the diet that I DO like. DH has a nice stock of chocolate and biscuits which I keep breaking into when he's at work - I'm going to have to make him find a new hiding place. Today I've eaten 2 double cream Oreo's, and a packet of Walkers French Fries. But I feel like I'm getting there with curbing the snacking (I know it doesn't sound like it though!). I don't have a weigh in day but am going to weigh myself on Friday morning. I've set myself the target of not having put the weight back on that I lost when I was sick, and if I lay off the Oreos then I think I might do it.....

I haven't done much exercise since last week when I was ill either - planning on rectifying that too. It's just so easy to "fall off the wagon" though.

I am grateful that I'm breastfeeding as at least alcohol calories at not an issue but I am jealous of those of you having boozy weekends though :)

ladydeedy · 25/08/2011 16:21

hi everyone - have just joined (and already have some MFP friends Smile) but wanted to ask about the weigh in. Is that Monday or Friday? I completely wish I had come across this stuff before - like years ago. Am 48 and 5ft 4 and have been anything from 15 stone at my highest to 8st 7lb at my lowest (and not healthy either).

I've got things reasonably under control, dont snack (DH never does so I dont either) but do drink and eat plenty of home cooked food. Thankfully am finding exercise really enjoyable - never really did exercise much until the last few years. Am hurtling towards 50 and want to enjoy being on the beach that day in a bikini and not having blubbery bits Smile

lydiathetattooedlady · 25/08/2011 18:11

Oh my goodness ive had a right palarva with mfp! I tried to change my name to name on here rather than real life name only to find its been taken (what are the odds!?) anyway i ended up clicking enter whilst trying to delete said mn name only to hit enter by mistake changing name lydiathetattoe so have deleted account and started again!
My name on there is victoriathetattooedlady. Is there a set weigh in day?
My down fall evening snacking!

tinker316 · 25/08/2011 18:46

Hiya!!
Have not posted for quite sometime Blush
Had a dreadful week Sad was doing so well until my friends wedding at the weekend!!
Was an amazing day Smile but very hard, as my XH was there & we have not seen each other fora year.
Was great seeing him, but made me realise how much I miss him & how we were Sad & how bloody stupid I was 2 leave him!!
So, I have been on quite a down spiral since Confused comfort eating etc....
But I have got to pull my socks up & carry on Smile
So from tomorrow I will be back on track Grin
I don't want 1 day of realising what bad mistakes I made 2 years ago, affect the good changes I have started a few weeks ago Wink

RGPargy · 25/08/2011 23:10

Hi everyone! LOL @ Lydia/Victoria! :o

Welcome newbies!! Weigh day is (i think!) whenever you want it to be! I started off with a Monday weigh day but found it a bit disheartening, especially if i'd had a boozy weekend so i changed it to Fridays instead, just to give me a chance to rectify any badness i had done over the weekened lol. But as I said, that's just personal to me and it suits me better that way :)

Feel free to add me on MFP too :)

Tinker - It's sad isn't it when you realise what you are missing, but obviously these things happen for a reason. Chin up luv. :)

Right, am off to bed! N'night all, eat well! Wink

giraffesCantChaChaCha · 28/08/2011 05:10

Hello, just joined. Have just spent £157 on a personal trainer so am bloody well not going to eat crap while paying that. but at same time idea of giving up choc etc is too scary so signed up. Used the paid equivalent of this before but that was a few years ago. Name on it is "giraffescantdance" :)
