Dillydaydreaming · 03/01/2012 12:07

Hi, I've just joined MyFitnessPal and am desperate for any slimming buddies. I've got at least 6 stones to lose but am concentrating initially on the first stone.
Am amanda3266 if names are searchable Smile

Dillydaydreaming · 03/01/2012 13:17

Do you think snoozing on the sofa counts as a "strengthening" exercise?

Or am I being too hopeful?Grin

RGPargy · 03/01/2012 13:22

Have added you, dilly :)

RGPargy · 03/01/2012 13:22

Oh it deffo counts, Dilly!!! Wink

ClicksArse · 03/01/2012 13:44

Well yesterday was an epic fail. So much of an epic fail that I couldn't even bring myself to log it! Blush

Am doing a bit better today but have just run into a problem. I ate a tuna mayo wrap with lettuce and red onion for lunch and have no idea of the number of calories in it! Any suggestions?

Also, I am going to brave going out for a walk this afternoon (don't feel brave enough to run yet!) but how do I know if I am walking at a good enough speed and what counts as moderate etc?

Am going to go and weigh in shortly when I finish work to get a proper handle on my starting weight. Am absolutely terrified!

magentastardust · 03/01/2012 14:41

Well I am starting my 2012 health kick today used Mfp earlier in the year but need to get some serious weight loss achieved!

Have a holiday booked in summer dc3 is now 6 mths and I am feeling rubbish about way I look and so unhealthy. Was already overweight before i got pregnant BlushSo time to take action!
Funds are tight so it will be walking and 1 excercise class a week for me at the mo.

Looking forward to a healthier year ahead same user name if you would like to add me.
Smile

piellabakewell · 03/01/2012 14:51

Glad to see you back magenta :)

As for the tuna mayo wrap...just search the database and see if you can find something similar.

QueenStromba · 03/01/2012 16:28

Clicksarse: I use this to figure out how far I've walked, you could then work out how fast you walked by how long it took you. I log all of my walking as 3mph even though I walk at about 3.75mph so if I walk 5 miles I put it down as 100 minutes even if it only took me 80. That way I don't have to worry about timing myself every time, I get slightly fewer exercise calories which leaves some room for error and I can just divide my weekly exercise minutes by 20 to figure out how far I've walked.

Fenouille · 03/01/2012 19:18

Ooh, that distance calculator is excellent, thanks for the link.

I've added you exit, dilly and magenta.

Clicks, with regard to how fast to walk (apart from doing the calculation as explained by QueenS) I always try to walk at a speed that is a little higher than normal walking speed. I also make sure I swing my arms fairly vigorously and most probably look like a loon but like that you feel like you are excising rather than just going for a stroll. I would also aim to start getting a bit breathless after 5-10 minutes and keep it up for 10?20 minutes beyond that (at least). Have fun and don't get blown away Grin

ClicksArse · 03/01/2012 20:18

Thanks Queen & Fen. That is really useful.

Another probably stupid question if I may; I just had pre-packaged Sainsbo's sweet and crispy salad with my dinner but without the mayo that is included. All the entries on MFP include the mayo, as dies the packaging. How do I work out how many it is without? (I binned the mayo so don't even know what the quantity was or anything!)

Sorry... I feel really stupid asking all these questions but this really is a whole new world to me Blush

mrswoodentop · 03/01/2012 20:29

Why don't you search sainsburys Mayo and then manually put inthe value if the total salad less the mayo ,I shod think or was about a table spoon

Fenouille · 03/01/2012 20:36

NO stupid questions here (if there are I've already asked a few :) )

Two choices:
Either; make an educated guess as to the mayo - was it closer to a tablespoon or a quarter cup? Look up mayo in the list and check how much the estimated quantity would cost in calories and then add a calorie count for the recalculated value (you can add a calorie count without doing food selection)

Or; just add the calories including mayo and then feel virtuous because you actually ate less Grin

Guess which one I do Wink

ClicksArse · 03/01/2012 20:53

Went for the educated guess and have input 100 calories. Surely a load of rabbit food can't come in at more than that?

I can't believe I have made it to the age of 28 without knowing how many calories there are in salad! I didn't want to input it with the mayo as that would put me over my calories for the day and, quite possibly for the first time in my life, I have finished the day under! Grin

QueenStromba · 03/01/2012 21:44

If everything else was veg then taking off the calories from fat will probably give you about the right answer so that would be 52 calories for the whole packet without the mayo.

RGPargy · 03/01/2012 23:44

I have just hidden (from myself!) the left over Xmas chocolate because i just cant stop eating it!! I have just devoured 3/4 of a Popping Candy Chocolate Orange. Hmm Tomorrow i am picking up a new coat from House of Fraser and I am wondering if it will fit me because of my entire December cheat-fest! You'd think that a £99 coat i haven't even tried on would be enough of a motivation to NOT stuff myself stupid today. Hmm Tomorrow i am also hiding the Xmas leftover savouries (Twiglets, Pringles, Bombay Mix, Peanuts, Tortillas, etc). I did suggest to DP that we give it away to DS and his girlfriend but his answer was "Well you dont HAVE to eat it!!". If only it were that simple!! Blush I didn't get my used to be size 24/26 but am now a size 20 figure by NOT eating the left over xmas food!!! Blush

Am suffering terribly today with my tummy from eating too much onion bread - i think i have an intolerance to wheat - but have continued to graze all bloody day.

H E L P ! ! !

Didn't go to the gym tonight because i found the excuse of high winds and driving across a motorway bridge to make sure i didn't go.

Tomorrow is my first proper double whammy since before Xmas - step class followed by pump. I think it will kill me as when i did pump followed by balance the other day i did feel a little dizzy during balance so goodness knows how i will cope with so much exercise tomorrow after such a long break from it.

I am sooooo glad that things are getting back to normal now tho. I am hating all this self inflicted gluttony! It's not as if i dont have anythign healthy in after christmas because i do - it all got delivered this morning! Next year's Xmas food will be miniscule in comparison to this year's. That is a PROMISE!!

Sorry for waffling on - just need to sound out. Thanks for reading if you've got this far!

Will try better tomorrow. Promise!

jchocchip · 04/01/2012 06:44

I'm hoping that the children and dh will have eaten it all when I get home. Tip for next year - leave the country! Although New Year here was a bit of a disaster, several hours eating including a pastis made from chicken, ground almonds sugar and filo pastry... But generally it is good to be away from home and the shops selling cheap chocolate on every corner. I still have most of my Christmas presents chocolate but I will take it to work if I go back or get the dc to help with that too!

I used to be a size 26 (some clothes even 28) and I am not going back there. You are doing so well to be down to 20 - keep up the exercise and logging on mfp and you have it under control. Don't let the odd bad day knock your motivation !

bexsybooboo · 04/01/2012 07:04

RGPARGY I have every faith in you. Just look at how well we are all doing before the great christmas festivities, we were all on fire lol. You can do this we just have to return to normality Smile

We cut down this year on what we call treat foods (chocs, nuts, pringles etc) but still had too much. I was lucky that I ate most of mine end of last week so have none left to graze on this week,so able to get back on it with no temptation lots of choc in fridge but am attempting being strong and giving ownership of that to the kids. Grin

I was a size 22 end of September and now a comfy size 18 so no way am I going back again.

Your exercise classes will be great you will be great and thoroughly enjoy it Smile I survived my first run on Monday but proper panicking before I went out.

butterfliesinmytummy · 04/01/2012 07:37

RGPargy, can you send all your goodies to someone else's place of work? DH took loads to his office, left it in the kitchen with a big "help yourself" note and it's all gone (well, I did keep the white choc shortbread, re-gifting that would have been plain wrong.... Grin)

banana87 · 04/01/2012 11:35

Arghhhh! SadSadSad
Week 1 and I've maintained my weight! Why??? DD was having a growth spurt and I fed loads and loads but didn't eat loads and I haven't lost anything!?!

ClicksArse · 04/01/2012 17:23

Banana are you sure you are eating enough? I have heard in the past that if you don't eat enough then your body hangs onto reserves of fat to ensure survival but I don't know if that is actually true or just something that people say as an excuse to indulge Confused

I have been so good today but right now I'd give anything for some BiscuitBiscuitBiscuitBiscuitBiscuitBiscuitBiscuitBlush I am literally counting down the minutes until dinner time although I have realised that this is not because I am massively hungry but because I haven't eaten since 1.30pm and seem to be having withdrawal symptoms from the actual action of putting hand to mouth and eating food!

My name is ClicksArse and I am a food addict... Blush

ClicksArse · 04/01/2012 17:24

So much for my attempts at typing something in bold on the iPhone! Blush

bexsybooboo · 04/01/2012 20:36

Would just like to recommend the Wii Zumba. Have just finished the 45 minute mid intensity session and feel like I am going to collapse like I have had a good workout and burned 500+ calories for 45 mins Smile. Wanted to go for a run but hmmmm the wind is scary too strong.

Am finding it more of a workout than my Zumba class that I used to physically attend.

Looks like we are all back at it and giving it our all Smile which is great to see.

Banana Check back through your logs see if you can spot anything. My downfall is I tend to look at the calorie only section and not the fat, carbs and protein as well. Could also be water retention, ?time of month and sometimes it may take a couple of weeks for the body to adjust and show results.

Clicksarse Is also right if you do not eat enough your body will dive in to fat reserves, it can take a couple of weeks to find the right balance. I have to eat my allowance 1200 cals per day and if I exercise I tend to eat a bit of those and leave approx 150-250 calories in the green.

Am sure it will shift, carry on logging and burning calories when you can good luck Smile

RG Back on form, good burns going on chuffed for you Smile

jchocchip · 04/01/2012 20:48

wii zumba sounds good. do you need anything other than standard wii setup to do it? How do you know how many calories you have burnt? do you have a strap or something?

I need to do something to tighten my abs soon - worried I'm going to end up with loose skin, aaany ideas?

jchocchip · 04/01/2012 20:49

any silly phone!
