And need support

This was recommended by TheHumanCatapult and is www.foodfocus.co.uk. you start by registering your weight etc and tell it how much you want to lose. It then tells you when that will be achieved, which for me was some time in 2013 Shock. You then use it day by day to record all the food eaten, and all the exercise you have done. It is working for me so far (only day 5) because:

-Iget instant results (it tells you day by day how much it calculates you have lost, you won't see it on the scales)
-I see how much I am actually eating
-I'm in control. I can see the impact of whatever I am going to eat before I actually eat it which does help the willpower somewhat!
-It's FREE

More pluses for My Fitness Pal:

  • if you use the phone app and have a bar code scanner, you can scan the bar code to automatically upload nutritionsl information.
  • If you enter a food incorrectly it is very quick to edit, you don't need to delete and re-enter.
  • any foods you add to the database are available to all users, and you can check and confirm nutritional info is correct.

Just got off the scales lost another 4lbs. Have we all had a good weekend?

KaraStarbuckThrace · 08/08/2011 14:16

Well done, that is fantastic!
Well I found I had put 2lb on Saturday, due to being naughty on Friday, but have lost it again today!

WhyIsTheRumAlwaysGone · 08/08/2011 17:19

Glad to hear it has gone again.

Did you change to my fitness pal? I've had a look and I'm quite tempted but also trying to decide if I can do it myself without tracking, I'm not sure what to do.

Clearly I need more to worry about if this is my biggest worry!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 08/08/2011 20:27

Yes I did switch over, it is a good website.
I have tried not tracking - that way leads to peril and too much cake! At least it did for me. Whenever I have followed a particular diet, it always fails when I stop keeping track of what I am eating.
Have gone a bit awry as thought I had more calories left but then realised I missed something off!! So nothing more for me tonight!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 10/08/2011 06:34

Woohoo, just weighed myself today and I am now down to 1lb over my pre pregnancy weight!

StealthPolarBear · 11/08/2011 13:10

:o:o:o Kara that's brilliant!

I too have to register everything - it's my only form of willpower. I also have to change the way I think - so if I don't know how many cals is in something or I don't want to register it because I think there might be a lot, then I don't eat it - rather than deciding not to bother to register it. Sounds obvious, but isn't to me!

TarquinGyrfalcon · 11/08/2011 14:24

Well done Kara.

I've lost 6lb in 2 weeks.

I have to register everything otherwise I just think sod it and overeat.
I was sorely tempted earlier by a packet of biscuits but I kept thinking one more lb and that is half a stone.
When I have lost a stone DH has promised to buy me a new handbag and today he suggested that when I have lost 2 stone I could have new boots Grin

KaraStarbuckThrace · 12/08/2011 08:33

OMG just weighed myself today and am now 2lbs less than my pre-pregnancy weight - I have lost 1/2stone since Sat!
Have upped activity level to increase calories as worried i may lose weight to quickly...

StealthPolarBear · 12/08/2011 08:34

that's brilliant, and has inspired me to get back to it! Have been a bit half hearted recently.

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 12/08/2011 08:49

right, ahve lost 4lb since last Saturday which is good, however that Saturday's weight was 2lb higher than the prev Tuesday so am really only 2lb lighter than a week and a half ago. Still, feeling more back on track and now need some targets to motivate myself. Going to lose 4lb by next Friday (which will take me on to the next stone down :))

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 12/08/2011 12:58

Right, just looked at the big picture and I have lost 1st2lb since I started this a month ago. So that's my motivation to continue - i can do it, I am doing it and I can lose even faster if I want to, and stop eating the take aways Hmm

OP posts:
TarquinGyrfalcon · 12/08/2011 13:49

SPB that's fantastic - you have remotivated me - over a stone is fantastic.

StealthPolarBear · 12/08/2011 13:51

:) Thanks
I definitelyneed remotivating, get back into the weightliss zone.
Have agreed with DH that I will eat different meals to him, it's easier that way

OP posts:
KaraStarbuckThrace · 12/08/2011 14:45

SPB - that is an excellent loss for the month! My total is 2stone exactly, if I lose another 2lb, that will also take below the next stone, somewhere I haven't been for a loooong time.
Still got 8lbs to lose to reach my SW start weight, then my next target is to lose another 1/2 stone after that before I go on my holidays, in about 10 weeks.
So 15lbs in 10 weeks!!

WhyIsTheRumAlwaysGone · 12/08/2011 15:04

I feel better after reading about all this motivation, its quite infectious. I stopped tracking and put on 2.5lbs but now I've been reminded of why I'm doing this and that I can do it.

Back on it tomorrow!

StealthPolarBear · 12/08/2011 15:18

You can do it!

OP posts:
FoundWanting · 13/08/2011 19:46

You are all doing amazingly well! Do you mind if I ask a few questions?

I signed up to this today and would like to lose 10lbs to a stone before my sister's wedding in October. I've got my calorie allowance which should see me losing 1.5lbs a week. Are you all seriously under-cutting this? Or do you not log your exercise or something?

I cooked a lasagne tonight and ended up logging it ingredient by ingredient, having to guess my portion. Is this the only way? And it tried to tell me that I'd had 203 calories' worth of garlic. Hmm No vampires here!

I'd be grateful for any top tips.

StealthPolarBear · 13/08/2011 21:59

I am undercutting mostly, sometimes I have days of 900ish cals. Not so much recently though! However I think even if you stick to what it tells you to lose say 1.5lb per week you'll lose more. Not sure why. I only log exercise if I do something specific, not everyday stuff, which is very litle anyway.
And yes, I do best guess for lots. Tbh it's not exact but the point for me is logging everything I eat and seeing the consequences in front of le in black and white before I over indulge. The exact calories aren't that imortant, it's changing my eating habits and giving me some artificial willpower.
Lol at 200 cals of garlic though - did you accidentally select garlic bread?
O

TarquinGyrfalcon · 13/08/2011 23:01

I'm eating just under the recommended calories per day. I have upped my exercise a bit and I'm logging that as well.

I think (as SPB said) the raised awareness of what I am eating is the key for me. Normally I graze throughout the day as well as eating some pretty calorie laiden meals. Using FF has made me think twice about everything that I eat. I'm also weighing things - I don't normally bother (I can't believe how heavy cheese is!)

StealthPolarBear · 14/08/2011 08:41

yes, cheese! Have gone from eating loads to eating hardly any when I realised a couple of small slices have hundreds of calories :(

OP posts:
MABS · 14/08/2011 10:24

hi all - could i join please? really want to lose 10lbs by 21 Sept, reckon it is possible? Have to say well done, you are all doing so well :)

FoundWanting · 14/08/2011 10:53

Thanks for the replies, Stealth and Tarquin. I've never done a straight calorie counting diet before, but I lost over 3 stone with Weight-watchers a few years ago, and I agree that it is logging everything that makes you aware of what you are eating. I'm terrible for picking at things through the day, especially with 3 DCs who are always hungry and making food. DS1 made Nigella's Chocolate Guiness Cake the other day, just because he 'fancied doing some cooking.'

I've also told myself that I'm not buying any autumn clothes until this stone has gone. So, if I don't stick to it I'll be bloody cold doing the school run in December. Grin

MABS · 14/08/2011 10:59

i entered details and it says net calorie intake should be 697 cals to lose 2lbs per week, can that be right??!! thanks girls

StealthPolarBear · 14/08/2011 11:52

Shock I suppose if you are already very light that's maybe right, but it seems very very low! Do you mind me asking how much you weigh at the moment? For 2lb a week, mine was 1510 cals
And yes, IME 10lb in about a month is do able, but again, probably easier for someone like me where 10lb is a drop in the ocean of what I actually need to lose! If these are the last 10lb then maybe not.
