You lot! Over 'ere! Sorry for taking liberties with the previous thread: I am no good with suspense, and it was like looking at a gigantic throbbing pustulating boil and not being able to squeeze it

OP posts:
kid · 13/06/2011 17:15

I've not read all the posts since I last posted properly, I skimmed through and saw couscous with tuna, tuna & pasta, jacket pot and beans so that should keep me going.

Huge congrats to Alpine, great news Smile

I know what damage was done this week as I WI this morning but I'll keep quite for now and WI again on Wednesday for the DoD, it might be easier for me to deal with!

My kettle is calling me for a cup of tea, it would be rude to ignore so I'll be back in a bit.

mandalee · 13/06/2011 20:31

What? No more posts? Where are all you guys?

Just had the yummiest Thai fishcakes for dinner - got the recipe off the low-carb plan of TD (which I have quit, but I still have access till the 7th July, so have copied all the good-looking recipes Grin)

And I am going to share it with you lovely gels, because sharing is caring (and because I have had one large G&T Grin)

Recipe Ingredients:

125 g. of monkfish (though monkfish was £20/kg at Tesco, so I bought £6/kg coley fillets, which worked fine Wink)
3 tsp of Thai red curry paste
1 egg
1 tsp of lime juice
2 spring onions
1 tbs of fish sauce
3 tsp of vegetable oil

Side Servings:
25 g. of cucumber
1 serving of mixed salad leaves
3 cherry tomatoes

Method:
1.Combine fish, curry paste and egg in a food processor.

  1. Blend well and add fish sauce.
3.Empty into a bowl, stir together until firm and sticky. 4.Mix in lime juice and chopped spring onions. 5.Mould into small discs or balls and fry over medium heat until golden brown.

I actually served this with stir-fried veg (and steamed basmati, for the two people in my family who are not avoiding carbs). Thumbs-up all round. Oh, and I added a good handful of fresh coriander leaves to the food processor.

Making the cucumber salad with a lime juice/sugar/sweet chilli dressing would be fab as well. Will try that next time.

Hope y'all are off of MN because you're having such smashing evenings, and not because the little (or big) darlings won't eat their dinner/have their bath/go to bed!

Happy G&T girl, off to knit her sister a birthday blanket now. Smile

Don't ask.

BlooferLady · 13/06/2011 20:53

In haste - ohsoverynearly at word count target for the day Grin - but YUM YUM YUMMO to those. I would like some now please. Thanks. Probably, as you say, not with monkfish!

Alpine Congrats on the BFP! Boo hiss to the work shenanigans though. The work clothes thing is a pain but generally clothes are not as promotion-limiting as the theory makes out. So long as you're decent and not the office-outlier scruffy, blokes (makes massive but probably not incorrect assumption about your line management!) don't notice such things. If you would feel more comfortable though in the power suits; then go for it. Hunt out some good secondhand shops and get yourself a couple of really nice suits and get them altered to fit you well. Mind you, it's back to the maternity kit for another half year, you may as well leave be and sort it in 2012!

Onlyaphase You were taking your dog to the vets- hope it was just a checkup?

mandalee That Dukan thing looks the spit of Atkins to me from what I can see online. If you do go for it, don't stay on the early stages too long- you'll be right out of energy although if you want the headstart on that dress, a bit of a short term daftness may be no bad thing. My roommate at work did something similar for two weeks and is now on what looks much more like normal dieting. She is into week 4 now and has a 5kg loss to kick start from the first 3 weeks. That dress is lovely though- hope it suits you when it turns up.

We had a lovely long weekend here. Saturday was another great leap forward on the kitting out of the flat (IKEA etc.). BIL and SIL came over yesterday and we played boardgames and had fajitas. I went to the local swimming pool today which was fun- it has loads of sections including outdoors bits. Need to get DD one of those neoprene vests for that though so today we just stayed inside. My MIL is coming on Thursday for 5 days and although she is lovely I find her quite hard work (she talks all the time). She is doing us a massive favour though by taking care of DD on Monday as the nanny has to go see her brother. We had some tale spun of brother going into hospital that may or may not be true- in any case, we're looking at creches now for the future as on September 1st I will go back to full time- cash and flexibility mean the nanny thing just won't work long term.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 13/06/2011 21:21

mandalee that sounds lush. I am very jealous. Makes my sweet chilli pork sound very dull!

c4ro I got DD neoprene number from JoJo Maman Bebe, she stays so warm and cosy! Hope you can sort the nanny out.

Bloofer please send some muffins over to west London. Stat.

Hedgepig · 13/06/2011 22:34

Pony fantastic news Grin on the bfp.
Mandalee the fish cakes sound really nice.
I'm struggling with the diet too at the moment, DS2 has stopped sleeping (he has never been very good but is totally pants for the last week) and we're struggling with DS1 (7ysr) as well, I just feel a bit tired and battered.

grinningbee · 14/06/2011 07:55

Good morning everybody!

Hedgepig I am with you on the tired feeling. After two horrible nights, ds was up again from 3.45 to just after 5. Urgh. Still, it was an improvement Hmm

Today is my DoD and I'm not giving away anything.

Off to see my oldest friend today who I don't get to see much since I moved. She is a chocoholic (and thin Angry) but I shall totally avoid any naughties. Probably be too busy fielding the two dc from touching things!

Todays food will be:

Weetabix and a banana
Cheese sandwich (probably while driving!) and an apple
Sweet chilli chicken and a big heap of roasted veg

Cheeseandbiscuits · 14/06/2011 08:18

Ha, I have a sneaky feeling that congratulations are in order bee, well done you! Sorry you had a crappy night.

Got a jam packed day today : mother and baby yoga Hmm, swimming for me then meeting up with antenatal friends.
Todays food looks like
B: melon. branflakes (HEB), ff nat yog
L: JP and tuna with light mayo (3syns)
D: trying to think of something to do with turkey breasts other than stirfry, maybe casserole unless anyone has any better ideas...
HEA skimmed milk

Cheeseandbiscuits · 14/06/2011 08:19

Oh and almost forgot to pass a large coffee to hedgepig. Take it easy pal!

Oh god, bloofer, fecking nightmare. I hate BANKS.
Great news about draft being almost done, must be relieved!

BlooferLady · 14/06/2011 08:46

It's FOUL isn't it? And what I really hate is that they employ two different kinds of people - the nice people to be all chatty and 'Mrs Bloofer'-ish when you're just calling to make a transfer or somesuch, then the scary snappy people in the Department for Feckless Customers that make you feel about 13.

When I'm rich I shall be taking my custom to Coutt's or some

OP posts:
grinningbee · 14/06/2011 09:03

Great news about the first draft Bloofer and Angry at the bank for you.

Btw - stop eyeing me up woman! I haven't even brushed my hair yet Wink Slender I ain't (yet), but happier than two weeks ago.

Re what to do with turkey breasts - maybe stuff them? I've seen a recipe using peppadew peppers as a stuffing for pork, but I bet they'd be nice with that too.

Now I really must go and get ready. I've already scared the village by running out of the door sans brushed hair and in my vest and comfy trousers, had to move the car so the mobile post office van could park.

Muser · 14/06/2011 09:13

Banks are fuckers Bloof. But good news that the draft is going well.

So, it's last chance Tuesday. I have had yog, muesli and a nectarine for breakfast. Lunch is to be decided and dinner will be risotto. I am feeling quite proud that I refused the lasagne that was brought home last night and had leftovers from yesterday instead. And then he ate the entire lasagne thus removing all temptation from me. Does anyone else have a partner who just doesn't get healthy eating? He was confused as to why a ready made M&S lasagne was unhealthy.

Exercise class in the park this morning as long as my girl doesn't decide to have a massive screaming fit that requires me to drop out in the warm up. I am jealous of your gym time cheese, there are none near me with a crèche.

C4ro · 14/06/2011 09:20

Bloofer Oh you've sent me right off on a reminisce. I can still remember with great affection my bank manager from Uni. I had the largest overdraft of anyone I knew due to an, er, unfortunate incident of uninsured minor car damage that I won't fully describe here except to say I paid my way on it. I explained it fully to the bank manager in tears and he asked me if I smoked... I did at the time and thought he meant all such luxuries will stop... he gave me a cigarette, told me "it was only money" and he signed off a bank overdraft extension about 5x higher than was normal at the time. They get tons of interest on overdrafts so they don't care, the Uni was also a good one so it wasn't such a huge gamble on his side. A few years later though they did force me to convert my overdraft to a loan and said I was so uncreditworthy I had to pay the rip-off insurance as well. Ah well.

Hedgepig Bee Sleep is just such a basic need to function. My total sympathies to you both, but, as you know, it all passes soon enough and you can power through a day or so on black coffee, crushed up pro-plus and tins of red bull... If you hold/cuddle your DC during the D-T-like shaking as you come down off the caffeine highs, they may even be lulled gently off to sleep as well... Also, premature congrats to bee on the not-very-well-disguised good DOD!

Cheese Thanks for the wetsuit tip. I will be getting one as the outdoor bit looks quite fun at the pool. It also had a lot less shrieking dive-bombing kids which is a small bonus.

obrigada · 14/06/2011 09:27

Morning all, 2 slices of wholemeal toast with butter for brekkie this morning due to the fact that there was literally nothing else to eat Blush. Have had a banana and coffee as well. For lunch baked potato and veggie soup (unfortunately shop bought, not homemade) so by lunch time will probably have used up all my syns Hmm

stargazer83 · 14/06/2011 10:12

Hello all unfortunaly my computer has picked up the unfortunate habit of chain smoking. As in every time I turn it on tons of steam come pouring out so I am currantly in the unenviable position of using the library computors in the middle of the baby sing and rhyme time. ARGH!!! So wont be around for a bit.
Before I run though congratulations Pony

kid · 14/06/2011 16:29

I've just had my blood pressure taken at the doctors and was asked if I exercise. I said I did and asked why and was told that I have a very slow pulse which shows I am very fit! I was well pleased, until she had to weigh me Grin

Cheeseandbiscuits · 14/06/2011 17:32

Had a good day here, enjoyed the gym although only had time for 40min. Managed 30min on the crosstrainer, couldnt have done that 4 weeks ago. I'm SO hoping tomorrow goes well.

muser - hope buggy fit was good.
kid - good news with pulse and BP..its all that exercise!

Can I ask - DD did a HUGE poo in creche, went everywhere and they had to change her clothes etc. However, when I went to change her nappy again there was still a bit of poo on her bumcheek and on her nappy. Should I say something?

Cheeseandbiscuits · 14/06/2011 20:52

Hmm Gin and Tonic ...

C4ro · 14/06/2011 20:56

Cheese Was it a one-off and you have no other niggles with the creche? If so I'd leave it. If your DD has regular nappy rash or you think they're putting the wrong size nappies on her though then it's a different matter and you probably should mention it and ask they come up with a way to make sure only the more experienced nappy changes deal with the poo-tastrophes. It might just have been a clueless new girl that did it and it wasn't checked.

Good luck to everyone for the DOD tomorrow. Judging by all your lists of activity and food sense, I expect encouraging success stories will be all over the fred tomorrow.

UrsulaBuffay · 14/06/2011 20:58

I will not have lost anything at DoD, I have had over 15 syns a day some days and today I had a fucking cornetto. Cos it was free.

Onlyaphase · 14/06/2011 21:15

Hello all, rushing through and will catch up soon as I can

Congratulations to Alpine fabulous news. Does this mean riding has to stop or is that later on?

To all of you - PM me tomorrow with your stats, and I will do the List of Doom around 7ish tomorrow night. Sainsburys are delivering most of their shop here between 5 and 6 tomorrow and I can't leave it out else the dogs and cats start helping themselves (and I'm not joking) then I have to put DD to bed, so can't do it earlier.

Cheese enjoy Take That tomorrow night, I hear good things of the show.

Have been to dentist today and also repeated trips to vet to wrestle large dog into surgery and then to carry doped up dog out and into the car. Good news is that all is well with said dog, no further tests needed as the lump was just a fatty one, nothing nasty.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 14/06/2011 21:33

Glad your doggy is ok only I'm so excited about TT... My phone number is already written on my knickers! Will have my deets to you early doors.

c4ro yeh it's a one off and I leave my own nappies etc. I think it was poomagedon so they just missed a bit. I'm gonna leave it unless it happens again!

Hedgepig · 15/06/2011 08:41

when are you off to see TT Cheese Envy . I would probably leave the nappy too unless it happens again, I have missed bits myself after a very explosive one bits myself . We are potty training DS2 (2 3/4 yrs) at the moment and it is going OK now I have sussed his jumping up and down and pulling my are is wanting the potty.

Food today:
B - scrambled eggs with cheese (HEA), beans and 2 x teeny toast (HEb)
L - leftover lamb stew
D - something made with left over chicken from Mondays roast

and I have lost the weight I put on last week and a little bit more Grin, I have been really focusing on what I'm eating (do I really need it etc) rather than just thinking it's meal time - and it seems to have worked well

back to the grind stone, its going to be a very quite day today most of the business are are at a trade event, and its just me in from team today ::leans back in chair and breaths deeply::
