Nothing Tastes As Good As Slim Feels Part 3

knottyhair · 24/04/2011 07:31

Hope it's OK that I've started this new thread, but the old one is now full! Not sure if my entry went on the old one, but anyhoo - let's keep going people! Here's to eating tasty healthy food, finding and sticking with exercise we enjoy and getting fitter, stronger & hopefully slimmer! xx

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 09/05/2011 14:09

Oh no Knotty - sorry you're still feeling rough. Hope it passes soon. You're doing the right thing by taking it easy though.

Karma - sounds like you're in the zone today!

Shaxx · 09/05/2011 19:02

Knotty sorry to hear you're feeling rough still. My spin class was really good. I love spin. Its my fave exercise. I'm doing it again tomorrow.

iluvcake. have you managed to find your way back into the zone? I dream of being your weight. Its stupid because its only just over a stone away yet I can't seem to get there. Grrrr.

Karma sounds like you're doing really well. Keep going Smile

I did really well today until I got back from work starving and dh had bought crisps and dips! I scoffed a whole load. I couldn't seem to stop eating them Blush Oh well.

I'm going to try to stick 1000 cals just for the next 3 days to give me a boost as I'm getting a bit fed up of nice weather and not having anything to wear that looks nice!

dinkystinky · 10/05/2011 09:57

Shaxx - at least you did a spin class before the blow out. Draw a line under it and back into the zone with you. I find the nice weather makes me want to eat fruit and salads - hope it has the same effect on you too.

Went a little overboard on the exercise yesterday - body combat at lunchtime and zumba (first one in ages) last night - then got home where new lawn had been laid which I had to water by hand (lugging big buckets of water around) as our hosepipe didnt work on the new tap. Doh! Oh well, at least I thoroughly deserved the yummy aubergine and chicken curry I had for dinner after that - at about half nine!

thedogwalker · 10/05/2011 10:43

Hello all
I'm finally back on line after the move. Coming back to the UK after living abroad for so long is quite challenging, just getting everyday things set up, phone, internet, creche places etc, especially when work move you to an area you don't know, but happy to say we are all now settled in. Well when I say all, me and DS, as DH has to stay in Germany/Afghan for another year Sad.

Well I have no idea how much I weigh, I know I've put on, as my clothes are tighter, I'm at least back up to 10 stone Shock, oh how quickly it piles back on. I will weigh myself on Friday but will be good between now and then.

Congratulations to Knotty and Karma for breaking your stone barriers, well done.

HUGE congratulations to Guitargirl, so happy for you, you will have to do the same as Thinbride and let us see the dress etc.

Well I hope everyone is well and hello to all the newbies.

Ta ta for now xx

iluvcake · 10/05/2011 10:47

knotty, how are you feeling? Better I hope!

Karma, you're envious of my weight but I'm envious of your willpower!! The trouble with me is I don't look massively big-I am just under 5ft 4 but I carry all my weight on my stomach, tops of arms and back. I am apple/up-side down triangle shaped which I know is the worst in terms of developing heart disease, diabetes etc. I can disguise my tummy but it means lots of loose fitting tops. I would love to just wear a normal fitted t-shirt. The other night, I'm not exaggerating, I looked 6 months pregnant. It always worse for me when I've been eating carbs and wheat. I feel like the pilsbury dough man. Even at my lowest weight 8st12, I still had a tummy-I take after my dad's side of the family-they all have it! I dispair of ever having flat abs-if I could just get rid of some of the flab and up the sit ups etc. I might have some chance!

Shaxx and Knotty-am impressed at all the exercise you are doing!

I'm still being crap-I'm sorry, I'm not very motivational-just being on this thread though is better for me than not being on it-I would go right off the rails otherwise. AF started yesterday and I'm feeling very rough and lethargic. Sitting here with hot water bottle but have pilates later so at least I will do some exercise this week!

iluvcake · 10/05/2011 10:50

thedogwalker-X posts!

Well back to the UK and online! I hope you get settled quickly. It must be so hard being apart from your DH, I can't imagine being separated like that for so long. How often will you get to visit each other?

justaminute · 10/05/2011 10:54

Welcome back TDW ? I?m sure you?ll be back to your svelte self in no time. Nice to see you again

Dinky I?m Envy at your lovely lush new turf (except the watering bit Smile). We landscaped our garden when we moved in, it was lovely but now our lawn is shot to pieces. There is a massive tree just outside our boundary which is sending it?s roots up all over our garden and has now started lifting our patio. Everyone (highways dept/ local council / property developer that has built on the land) is denying ownership of the tree it?s a nightmare. Grrr, can you tell it?s a bug bear of mine at the moment?

On a positive note a good food & exercise day was had yesterday. I played netball and we won ? a rainbow appeared whilst we were playing too - I think it was a good omen Smile.

dinkystinky · 10/05/2011 11:30

TDW - welcome back! Hope you're nicely settled now - and hope the next year whizzes by so DH is with you and DS soon.

Iluv - if is any consolation I'm 5 ft 4 and my goal weight is 10 stone. I know what you mean about the tummy - I too have a tummy (never used to before having babies) and have to work really hard at it. I find avoiding bread makes an enormous difference. That and lots and lots of cardio combined with pilates. Hope you feel better soon.

JAM - there was a tree in the garden before and the lawn was terrible. Lawn got mullered by building works so I get to have a lush new turf (DH is buying a new hosepipe today as told him it was his turn to water the garden today Grin). Cant believe everyone is denying ownership of that tree though - that's appalling, especially if its damaging your patio!

knottyhair · 10/05/2011 11:38

Shaxx, oh blimey, crisps & dips would be a major temptation for me as well. Sounds like you'll get back to it though. Dinky, exercise-tastic Grin! And your curry sounds lovely. TDW, helloooooo & welcome back! Hope you're settling in OK, sounds like you've got a lot on your plate as usual, and it must be so stressful and worrying being away from your DH like that, I can't imagine. iluv, feeling a bit better thanks. Still a bit of a chesty cough but it's on the way out I think. I'm an apple as well, so I know exactly what you mean about bulgy guts Smile. JAM, congrats on the netball win!

I've been into town this morning and walked "briskly" there and back, 20 mins each way partly uphill, so better than nothing but don't feel up to leaping around yet. Had an M&S low cal sandwich in town for breakfast, got some bean soup for lunch, and "fish, chips & mushy peas" (low fat version) for tea.

justaminute · 10/05/2011 11:55

Sorry Iluv I missed your post. I know I shouldn?t but your ? pilsbury dough man? comment made me smile. Infact I think it is appropriate for me too. However I have ample bum & tum but being taller I?m like a stretched Pilsbury. Smile. Hope the pilates cheers you up and doesn?t aggravate your hip.

fedupofnamechanging · 10/05/2011 14:26

hello everyone,

Welcome back TDW. Hope your new house is starting to feel like home by now. Must be nice to have the internet back. I start to get twitchy now if it goes off for whatever reason.

JAM could the Land Registry show you whose land the tree is on? I downloaded a map showing my borders, for around £4 last month. Perhaps you could download the one for the neighbouring land and see who owns it that way.

iluvcake, it's hard to diet at AF time, so don't be too hard on yourself. I am traditional pear shape, so the top half of me is fine. I have a fat arse, but generally I don't mind because I can't see it Grin. I hate having a big belly (4 pg have not improved this situation) and I really hate having fat legs and being unable to get my boots on (bought when I was skinnier).

Have had most of my days calories already. Had huge bowl of soup at my mums, which was filling, but is the sort of thing I would normally have for dinner and would only have a light lunch. Still, never mind. Will be doing my cross trainer when my sister (skinny and very pretty) goes home and isn't sitting on the sofa laughing at me! She is a sweetie, but only 22 and still at the stage where the weight doesn't stick to her. I wish I'd appreciated those days more at the time.

knottyhair · 10/05/2011 14:35

Oh Karma I know what you mean. I was looking at some old photos the other day and remembering how this lovely slim 20 something thought she was fat! I'd love to go back in time and tell her to get a grip Grin.

OP posts:
iluvcake · 10/05/2011 18:59

Just a quickie before I go and do the bedtime routine with DS. I'm just looking for some inspiration for bread-free lunchtimes. Am going to do a meal plan and a shop tomorrow.

Have decided instead of just moaning I can't get in the zone, I'm going to bloody do something about it. It's 3 weeks until we go away on holiday and I don't want to exposing my pilsburyGrin stomach to the world (again).

Shaxx · 10/05/2011 19:06

Dinky Wow. Thats enough exercise for a whole week done in one day! Phew!

TDW Hi! Welcome back. Hope you get all settled in soon. It must be difficult setting up a new home without your dh. I'm sure you'll get back on track with diet/exercise when you're ready.

iluvcake its hard when its AF time. You're allowed to wallow and get comfort from whatever means necessary as far as I'm concerned.

JAM how awful for you. That would drive me mad. I hope you get to find out who's responsilbility it is. Well done on netball!

Knotty you sound like you're feeling better. Bet you can't wait to meet up with Jillian again!

Karma you sound like youre doing well. Did you do your cross trainer? When you log your cals, it really motivates you to exercise if you've had a day like yours ie not many cals left for the day, just so you can earn some cals for a decent dinner!

I've done really well today and had 940 cals without being hungry!
I had low fat yoghurt with a tblsp muesli for breakfast
Lunch was some sushi from waitrose and a low fat yoghurt
dinner was a count on us prawn masala with rice and salad.

I wanted to go to the gym today but I was so hungry when I got back from work that I had my dinner. I'll see how I feel about 8.30. Is that about the right time I should go (I know Dinky will know the answer to this Smile)

Shaxx · 10/05/2011 19:10

iluvcake here are some things I have for lunches;
innocent pots
soup and ryvita
couscous and chickpea salad (spring onions, cherry toms and whatever)
tuna salad
left over dinner

I'm going to checkout our fave bbcgoodfood for more inspiring salad recipes.
I love salads in warm weather.

fedupofnamechanging · 10/05/2011 19:30

Hi Shaxx. Have been good and have done my cross trainer. Probably not as much as I could have done, but anything is better than nothing.

Had 2 ryvitas with a ham and cherry tomatoes for dinner, to keep the calories down. Am not too hungry at the moment.

iluvcake I often eat eggs for lunch as they fill me up, while still being quite low in calories. I also like Heinz tomato and butter bean soup. Probably not the healthiest sop,but low calorie and filling.

dinkystinky · 10/05/2011 21:16

Shaxx - 8.30 is perfect time to go to the gym after dinner (I generally leave it at least an hour after eating if going to do an all out workout as feel abit sick if food still sitting in stomach - though not everyone feels that way). Well done on your zonetastic day! And Karma good on you for cross training too.

Shaxx · 10/05/2011 22:06

Thanks Dinky.
I do tend to feel sick if I exercise too soon but haven't gauged how soon soon is!
Anyway, went for half hr cross trainer session.

Zonetastic is a great word! Grin
May all my days be so.

justaminute · 10/05/2011 23:18

It was all going so well until 1 hour ago when the demon sugar munchies kicked in. It all went wrong with a creme egg - this was to be my treat for the day but it has led to 2 pengiuns and 4 jaffa cakes Blush. I didn't need it, I'm just tired and lacking self control. My binge barely touched the sides. I should just have gone to bed. Now I feel sick and can't sleep. Yet again I'm my own worst enemy. Sad

Tomorrow's a new day i guess, hopefully I can make it a zonetastic one.

Thanks for the tree sympathies. Land Registry were our first port of call. It seems the plot of land is unregistered. dh's is considering his next move... he wants to write to the council to say that we will pay to have the tree felled and see what becomes of that proposal.

fedupofnamechanging · 10/05/2011 23:35

Sorry things have gone a bit pear shaped jam. I think penguins are the work of the devil. They are not even that nice, yet oddly compelling. I am off to bed now before I start on the crunchies that are in my fridge.

knottyhair · 11/05/2011 08:14

Morning! iluvcake, lots of great suggestions here for bread-free lunches. I usually go for soup as it fills me up, or else salad if it's too warm. But I'm not averse to a bit of bread Grin so I sometimes have a wrap or pitta bread if I fancy a change. Shaxx, sounds like you are firmly in the zone! Well done on doing the cross trainer (and you Karma!) and at that time in the evening as well! If I don't do my exercise first thing, it doesn't happen Blush. JAM, put yesterday behind you, and keep going. Really hope your tree situation is sorted out soon. Well I'm already knackered. Bad night's sleep and awake at 5.10am with "AF related issues". Cold is better but still coughing a bit, so don't think I'm Jillian ready yet. May try a Level 1 Shred tomorrow morning. Today I've got to clean the bedrooms and work through a pile of ironing so mild activity but nothing substantial! Poached egg on toast for breakfast, rest of the Italian bean soup for lunch and Quick Prawn Korma from Good Food site for tea. Got to eat later on after DS has gone to bed though so will be "nibbly" at his teatime so must remember to leave some calories for then. Have a good day xx

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 11/05/2011 09:08

JAM - just draw a line under the biff yesterday. And on the plus side - you DID stop, and had been in the zone all day - so the damage is less than it would have otherwise been. I am a great believer in treating yourself - but it has to stop at 1 treat, otherwise how is it a treat (I have to keep explaining this to DS1 too Grin) As the weather is warmer, could you try some frozen yoghurt (skinny cow icecreams are good and individually wrapped too) as your sugar treat in the evening if craving a sugar hit? I find the coldness tends to stop me biffing out on those. And remember - mindful eating - really enjoy what you're eating when you're eating it!

Knotty - if you're feeling up to exercise, why dont you dig out one of your old Davina dvds? I find they're quite good when getting back into exercising as they do proper warms up and cool downs which always helps, whereas the shred (while intensive) isnt that great on those.

knottyhair · 11/05/2011 12:26

Thanks Dinky, that's a good idea. Might try a Davina Pump or Top Fit in the morning I think...

OP posts:
Shaxx · 11/05/2011 14:36

JAM I know exactly how you feel. I've done that so many times in the past. I made myself a rule that I wasn't allowed to have anything after dinner no matter how peckish I felt. I even included a small pudding after my dinner and stuck to my rule.
Now, I don't ever tend to binge in the evening. The thought of food that late makes me feel sick.
I just need to try to tackle the afternoon munchies as thats when I tend to binge now! Blush
My current rule (I do like rules Smile) is to only eat my 3 meals as I think if I can break the snacking habit, I'll be sorted.

Today I've had/will be having
breakfast - quorn sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes
lunch - innocent veg pot
dinner - chicken and broccoli pasta dish (will have mine without the pasta today)

Hope you're all having a good day.

justaminute · 11/05/2011 22:52

Shaxx I like rules too. Unfortunately I break them too easily. I hope the 1000 cals challenge is going OK.

Dinky I agree, those Skinny cow lollies are good. I like the mint ones, again though I need to control myself to stop at one. As you've pointed out the positive from last night's binge is that I realised what I was doing and stopped, perhaps I'm slowly controlling myself.

I went for a 30 minute run tonight,I think I did 3 miles. I enjoyed it Shock I think I've got the running bug. I had attempted to do Level 2 Shred before going out as a warm up but my body just wouldn't do it - my brain was receiving "Are you mad? - shred AND running!" signals.
